The resonator length of an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is normally made a short as possible to minimize the signal-buildup time and maximize the output energy. We have found that, when a doubly resonant OPO is pumped by a multilongitudinal-mode beam, its output energy has a significant maximum when its optical length matches that of the pump source, even if this length is much greater than the shortest possible for the OPO. We have observed this effect in a ZnGeP>(2)-based OPO and reproduced it in numerical simulations. 相似文献

Continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled KTiOPO(4) and its application to spectroscopy 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We report a continuous-wave, doubly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on the nonlinear material periodically poled KTiOPO(4) and its application to spectroscopy. The OPO, which is pumped by a diode-pumped frequency-doubled Nd:YLF laser at 523 nm, has a low pump-power threshold of 25 mW and can deliver 10 mW of single-frequency output at 1.65 mum for a pump power of 200 mW. The idler wavelength can be temperature tuned at a rate of 0.73 nm/( degrees )C , and smooth tuning of the output frequency over ~3 GHz is achieved by smooth tuning of the pump laser. We demonstrate the practicality of the OPO by recording the absorption spectrum of methane near 1649 nm. 相似文献

We report the use of a smoothly tunable, single-frequency continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator (OPO) for high-resolution spectroscopy. The OPO is based on potassium titanyl phosphate and is resonant for both signal and idler fields, resulting in a device with a very low pump power threshold of 30 mW. The frequency-selective nature of the doubly resonant oscillator ensures that the signal and idler modes can be tuned across the entire phase-match bandwidth without the need for additional intracavity frequency-selective components. Smooth frequency tuning of the output of the OPO is obtained by tuning of the pump laser. To demonstrate the practicality of our OPO we recorded the absorption spectrum of cesium vapor in the 1-microm spectral region. 相似文献

We report on an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) that is synchronously pumped directly by a diode laser. This laser is an actively mode-locked master-oscillator power-amplifier system that produces 20-ps pulses at 927 nm with a repetition rate of 2.5 GHz and an average power of 0.9 W. The OPO, which is a singly resonant device based on periodically poled lithium niobate, generates 7.8-ps pulses. The OPO threshold is 300 mW of average pump power, and the maximum average idler output power is 78 mW at a wavelength of 2100 nm. By changing the crystal temperature we can wavelength tune the output in the ranges 1530-1737 nm (signal) and 1986-2348 nm (idler). Rapid wavelength tuning of the OPO over 46 nm (signal) and 74 nm (idler) is achieved through tuning the cavity length over 28 microm by use of a piezoelectric transducer. 相似文献

We report a high-repetition-rate (1-10-kHz) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on noncritically phase-matched ZnGeP2 (ZGP). The pump source was an OPO based on periodically pole lithium niobate that was pumped in turn by a Q-switched diode-pumped 1-microm Nd:YAG laser. The ZGP OPO yielded continuously tunable output from 3.7 to 10.2 microm by tuning of the pump wavelength from 2.3 to 3.7 microm. At the optimal pump focusing, the minimum ZGP OPO threshold achieved was 2 microJ, which is to our knowledge the lowest ever reported for a singly resonant OPO. The output energy in the 6-8-microm range was > 20 microJ, and the quantum efficiency of converting 1-microm radiation to the mid IR exceeded 10%. 相似文献

We present what is to our knowledge a new approach to generating tunable blue light by cascaded nonlinear frequency conversion in a single LiTaO3 crystal. Simultaneous quasi-phase matching of an optical parametric generation process and a sum-frequency mixing process is achieved by means of structuring the crystal with a quasi-periodic optical superlattice. The spectral (wavelength tuning and bandwidth) and power characteristics of the blue-light generation are studied with a fixed-wavelength 532-nm picosecond laser and a wavelength-tunable nanosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO) as the pump sources. By tuning the OPO wavelength, we could tune the blue output over approximately 20 nm. Temperature tuning of the blue output at a fixed pump wavelength of 532 nm was limited to approximately 1.5 nm. A maximum blue power of 15 microW was generated at a pump power of 0.5 mW, corresponding to an efficiency of 3%. 相似文献

We report a continuous-wave (cw) 532-nm-pumped singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) based on periodically poled lithium niobate. The pump source is a commercial 5-W cw diode-pumped, multilongitudinal-mode, intracavity-doubled Nd:YVO(4) laser. Using a four-mirror ring SRO cavity and single-pass pumping, we achieved subwatt internal oscillation threshold, 56% quantum efficiency, and output tuning from 917 to 1266 nm. 相似文献

We present a 532 nm-pumped singly-resonant cw optical parametric oscillator based on MgO-doped PPLN with a minimum threshold
pump power of 0.3 W. The OPO with a two-mirror standing-wave cavity is optimized by using a tunable diode laser on the path
of the resonant signal beam. The maximum output power is 200 mW at an idler wavelength near 1330 nm at a pump power of 2 W.
We report the degradation of the output power and beam characteristics at high pump power indicating a strong thermal lensing
in the crystal. The continuous tuning range of the OPO is measured to be 800 MHz which is close to 90% of the free spectral
range of the OPO cavity. 相似文献

We report a continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO(4) (PPRTA). The singly resonant OPO, which is located within a Ti:sapphire laser, has a high-finesse signal cavity and delivers a maximum output power of 270 mW to the nonresonant idler wave at 2.92mum , through a 4.5-mm PPRTA crystal. For room-temperature operation and a crystal with a 30-mu;m grating period, pump tuning over 838-848 nm results in OPO tuning over 1.13-1.27mum (signal) and 2.53-3.26mum (idler), limited by the bandwidth of optical coatings. PPRTA exhibits thermal properties superior to those of periodically poled LiNbO(3) . 相似文献

A new optical parametric oscillator (OPO) for the mid-infrared wavelength region of 3-3.8mum with an idler output power of up to 1.5 W has been developed. The singly resonant OPO is pumped by a single-mode, 10-W, continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser and consists of a bow-tie ring cavity with a fan-out periodically poled lithium niobate crystal and a low-finesse intracavity air-spaced etalon. The single-frequency idler output can be continuously tuned over 24 GHz with 700-mW power by tuning of the pump laser. The tuning was demonstrated by recording of an absorption line of ethane with photoacoustic spectroscopy. 相似文献

We report on optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) based on large aperture periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) and RbTiOAsO4 (PPRTA) pumped with high pulse energy and high average power Q-switched solid-state lasers. The OPOs were pumped with 1064-nm
pulses of a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser at 20 kHz repetition rate. The emitted signal wavelengths were 1.72 μm and 1.58 μm and the idler wavelengths were 2.79 μm
and 3.26 μm, respectively. Pumping the PPKTP OPO with 7.2 W and the PPRTA OPO with 8 W average power, 2 W and 1.3 W total
OPO output powers were generated. Two-dimensional measurements of the total OPO output power, the signal wavelength and the
signal bandwidth in dependence on the crystal location indicated a good uniformity of the quasiphasematching structure over
the entire 3-mm-thick crystals. This allowed pumping with larger pump beams and therefore with pulse energies of tens of millijoules.
Pumping with different flash-lamp-pumped lasers, good OPO performance and high output pulse energies could be achieved for
all pump lasers. Maximum input pulse energies of 56 mJ gave output pulse energies of as much as 18 mJ. The temperature tuning
behaviors of both OPOs were measured, showing excellent agreement with calculated temperature tuning curves. New equations
for temperature dispersion in RTA are presented. These results show that large-aperture PPKTP and PPRTA crystals are well
suited for tunable nanosecond OPO operation with multi-watt average pump power and several tens of millijoules pump pulse
energies.

We report on what is to our knowledge the first continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) that is pumped by a tunable fiber laser. The OPO is singly resonant for the signal wave and consists of a 40-mm-long periodically poled LiNbO(3) crystal in a four-mirror ring cavity. At a pump power of 8.3 W provided by the wavelength-tunable Yb-doped fiber laser, the singly resonant OPO generates 1.9 W of 3200-nm cw idler radiation. The singly resonant OPO was tuned from 1515 to 1633 nm (signal) and from 3057 to 3574 nm (idler) by means of the crystal temperature and poling period. We obtained a wide idler tuning range, from 2980 to 3700 mn, by tuning the wavelength of the fiber laser from 1032 to 1095 nm. 相似文献

We report a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on the nonlinear material BiB3O6. The OPO is synchronously pumped in the blue by the second harmonic of a Kerr-lens-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. It can provide wide and continuous tuning across the entire green-yellow-orange-red spectral range with a single crystal and a single set of mirrors. Using a 500 microm BiB3O6 crystal and collinear type I (e+e->o) phase matching in the optical yz plane, a signal wavelength range of 480-710 nm is demonstrated with angle tuning at room temperature at average output powers of 270 mW. With 220 fs blue pump pulses, near-transform-limited signal pulses of 120 fs duration have been obtained at 76 MHz repetition rate. 相似文献

Frequency-agile kilohertz repetition-rate optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled lithium niobate 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
We report kilohertz repetition-rate pulse-to-pulse wavelength tuning from 3.22 to 3.7 mum in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) optical parametric oscillator (OPO). Rapid tuning over 400 cm(-1) with random wavelength accessibility is achieved by rotation of the pump beam angle by no more than 24 mrad in the PPLN crystal by use of an acousto-optic beam deflector. Over the entire tuning range, a near-transform-limited OPO bandwidth can be obtained by means of injection seeding with a single-frequency 1.5-mum laser diode. The frequency agility, high repetition rate, and narrow bandwidth of this mid-IR PPLN OPO make it well suited as a lidar transmitter source. 相似文献

We report on a cw mode-locked non-critically phase matched KTP optical parametric oscillator synchronously pumped by a picosecond Ti:Sapphire laser. High average signal output power of up to 950 mW over a large tuning range has been achieved. For this OPO the influence of resonator-length detuning on the output power, pulse duration and spectral bandwidth has been investigated. The measured data are in good agreement with the results of a numerical simulation using a split-step Fourier method which considers the group-velocity mismatch, the group-velocity dispersion and the self-phase modulation. The numerical simulation also describes the measured strong pump depletion and its influence on the OPO output and efficiency. 相似文献

We describe what is to our knowledge the first nanosecond periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) driven by a fiber laser. The source was frequency doubled by a PPLN sample before pumping a second, 20-mm-long, PPLN crystal. The OPO threshold was <10muJ, with pump depletions of as much as 45% and a tunable signal range of 945-1450 nm (1690-4450-nm idler range). We demonstrated 130-nm signal tuning by varying the pump wavelength and doubling crystal's temperature. Also, we achieved 15-nm tuning with all crystals at a constant temperature. The results demonstrate the potential of the fiber laser:PPLN combination for practical, versatile, and tunable sources. 相似文献

We present a 3 5 μ m optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on ZGP pumped by KTP OPO 2.1-μ m laser. The tuning curves of ZGP OPO are calculated. The 8 ×6 ×18 (mm) ZGP crystal, whose end faces are antireflection coated at 2.1 and 3.7 4.6 μ m, is cut as θ =53.5°, φ =0°. When the pump power of 2.1-μ m polarized laser is 15 W at 8 kHz, 5.7-W output power and 46.6% slope efficiency are obtained with a ZGP type I phase match. Central wavelengths of the signal and idler lasers are 4.10 and 4.32 μ m, respectively. Pulse duration is about 27 ns. Beam quality factor M 2 is better than 1.8. The tunability of 3 5 μ m can be achieved by changing the angle of the ZGP crystal. 相似文献
