Four-wave mixing (FWM) is a well-known nonlinear optical phenomenon and has attracted great interest in nonlinear all-optical signal processing owing to its ultrafast and transparent properties. Here we report the experimental observation via spectra on the nontransparency and optical phase erasure characteristic of FWM. The distinctive feature of “optical phase erasure” is a consequence of square relationship between the converted idler and input signal. It is interesting to find that the optical phase information carried by the input signal is erased in the converted idler by exploiting FWM. Such new attribute of FWM enables optical phase information removal and all-optical format conversion from carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) to return-to-zero (RZ). Moreover, similar phenomena are observed in the higher-order FWM. In addition, the nontransparency phenomenon and optical phase erasure characteristic are also demonstrated by theoretical analyses with optical spectra and phase diagrams.  相似文献

We propose and simulate simple realizations of all-optical format conversion between differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals based on cascaded second-order nonlinearities in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide. Four kinds of 40 Gb/s all-optical format conversion from non-return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (NRZ-DPSK) to return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (RZ-DPSK) are investigated based on cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation (cSHG/DFG) or cascaded sum- and difference-frequency generation (cSFG/DFG). The optical spectra, temporal waveforms, eye diagrams, constellation diagrams, and time-related phase distribution are analyzed, which indicate successful implementation of NRZ-DPSK-to-RZ-DPSK format conversion. The obtained results also confirm the phase preservation characteristic of PPLN.  相似文献

Modified duobinary return-to-zero (MD-RZ) format is an improvement of optical duobinary (ODB) format.This paper proposes a novel, all-optical method to generate MD-RZ format by using a polarization maintaining fiber loop mirror (PMFLM). Operation principle for all-optical format conversion is theoretically analyzed and the output spectrum is simulated. 40-Gb/s MD-RZ data format generation is experimentally demonstrated.  相似文献

We report a novel phase-erased demodulation of differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) by exploiting cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation (cSHG/DFG) in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide. Analytical solutions are derived to clearly describe the operation principle. The binary optical phase information carried by the conventional DPSK demodulation outputs is removed thanks to the cSHG/DFG in a PPLN waveguide. PPLN-assisted phase-erased wavelength conversion and demodulation of 40 Gbit/s non-return-to-zero DPSK (NRZ-DPSK), return-to-zero DPSK (RZ-DPSK), and carrier-suppressed return-to-zero DPSK (CSRZ-DPSK) are demonstrated in the experiment. Moreover, the accompanying all-optical format conversions from optical duobinary (ODB) to NRZ and from ODB/alternate-mark inversion (AMI) to RZ are also substantiated in the experiment. In addition, the calculated theoretical results including optical spectra, temporal waveforms, and phase diagrams also confirm the successful implementation of PPLN-assisted 40 Gbit/s NRZ-DPSK/RZ-DPSK/CSRZ-DPSK phase-erased wavelength conversion, demodulation, and ODB-to-NRZ and ODB/AMI-to-RZ format conversions.  相似文献

We report the experimental demonstration of all-optical format conversion by exploiting the cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation (cSHG/DFG) in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide assisted by the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA)-based active mode-locking. 10 and 20 Gbit/s format conversions from non-return-to-zero (NRZ) to return-to-zero (RZ) are successfully observed. Two schemes with either the NRZ signal or the pump optical clock set at the quasi-phase matching (QPM) wavelength are both verified in the experiment.  相似文献

We propose a novel all-optical format conversion from the return-to-zero (RZ) to the non-return-to-zero (NRZ) based on single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and optical band-pass filter (OBE). We demonstrate the proof of the principle experiment at 10 Gbps by using the test SOA and OBF converter. The format conversion can be achieved with output extinction ratio of 11.51 dB. The BER is 5.5×10^-9 when the power of NRZ is - 10 dBm. The proposed scheme is robust and potential for applications in optical networks.  相似文献

We present an all-optical nonreturn-to-zero/return-to-zero(NRZ/RZ) to carrier-suppressed return-to-zero(CSRZ)format conversion scheme for differential phase-shift ke.ying(DPSK) signals. The conversion is based on nonlinear polarization rotation of a semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA). The 4-channel NRZ-DPSK or RZ-DPSK signals at 10 Gb/s are simultaneously converted to the corresponding CSRZ-DPSK signals, with-0.8 and 1.4 dB average power penalties, respectively. 归零(RZ)码与非归零(NRZ)码是波分复用和时分复用系统中广泛采用的两种码型, 全光NRZ到RZ码型转换能完成从波分复用到时分复用的网络接口功能, 是未来透明光子网络中一项重要的全光信号处理技术. 提出并实验证实了一种基于色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中四波混频效应的单到双NRZ到RZ码型转换方法, 将一束信号光与同步时钟脉冲同时输入色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中, 通过四波混频过程, 产生两个携带该数据信息的闲频光, 从而实现了单到双的NRZ到RZ码型转换功能, 码型转换器工作波长在193 nm范围可调谐, 最大转换效率为-21 dB, 最优消光比和品质因子分别为11.9 dB和7.2. 该方法的特点在于基于光纤中的四波混频效应工作, 因而具有对调制格式和比特率透明的优点, 同时, 光子晶体光纤特有的高非线与色散平坦性, 既避免了使用传统光纤需要较长的长度, 又避免了波长设置不灵活的弊端, 并具备可进一步增加带宽的能力, 且在码型转换的同时, 实现了波长转换, 完成了双通道波长组播功能. 整个系统为全光纤设计, 结构简单, 性能可靠, 并易于与现有的光纤通信系统相容, 对促进超高速大容量光子网络的发展具有重要意义. 关键词: 码型转换 四波混频 光子晶体光纤  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical format conversion from two independent non-return-to-zero on-off keying (NRZ-OOK) signals to a return-to-zero quadrature phase shift keying (RZ-QPSK) signal using two cascaded SOAs. Within each SOA, the cross phase modulation (XPM) process is properly controlled by an assistant light. After evaluating its effect on XPM, a suitable power range of assistant light is chosen for the NRZ-OOK to RZ-QPSK format conversion. In the experiment, a RZ-QPSK signal is successfully obtained with opened demodulation eye-diagrams.  相似文献

研制了一种基于光纤型马赫-泽德干涉仪的全光码型转换器.通过对工作温度的控制,实现了NRZ码到PRZ码的转换.分析了实现NRZ到PRZ码型的转换原理,讨论了干涉仪的结构设计.在10 Gb/s和20 Gb/s的码型转换实验中,得到较好的PRZ信号眼图.光谱分析表明,转换后的PRZ码包含了丰富的时钟分量,达到了理想的转换结果.结果表明,这种简单的光纤型非对称马赫-泽德干涉仪可以实现NRZ到PRZ的转换,并可以保持输出结果的稳定性.  相似文献

We present a novel design for all-optical conversion from wavelength-hopping time-spreading to non-return-to-zero format using wavelength converters based on semiconductor optical amplifiers. The multi-pulse nature of the wavelength-hopping time-spreading signal is utilized to achieve efficient, high-performance format conversion without pulse replication. The operation is demonstrated with a power penalty of 1 dB. A novel, complete design for interfacing wavelength-hopping time-spreading networks to WDM networks is also presented.  相似文献

Abstract

We have simulated, for the first time, wavelength converter for future broadcast networks at 40 Gb/s using low-cost semiconductor optical amplifiers. The performance analysis is carried out for an all-optical frequency converter based on cross-phase modulation in two semiconductor optical amplifiers arranged in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer configuration to evaluate the efficiency of conversion. The results, evaluated analytically for input, return to zero signal at a bit rate of 40 Gb/s show that conversion is possible over a wavelength separation of 1 nm between the pump and the input wavelength. Increasing the driving current can decrease the cross-phase modulation effect. The cross gain modulation scheme shows extinction ratio degradation for conversion to longer wavelengths.  相似文献

We present a detailed investigation of all-optical RZ-OOK to RZ-BPSK modulation format conversion at 10 Gb/s using cross-phase modulation in a length of highly nonlinear fiber. In particular, we examine the impact of the input RZ-OOK signal characteristics, such as duty cycle, average (peak) power, optical signal to noise ratio, and degradation from residual dispersion and differential group delay on the BER performance of the converted RZ-BPSK signal. We also present results on RZ-OOK to RZ-BPSK modulation format conversion with wavelength multicasting.  相似文献

In this paper, the system scheme of on–off keying (OOK) to quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) format conversion is proposed, which is based on two gain-transparent semiconductor optical amplifiers (GT-SOA). GT-SOA is used as a simple all-optical phase modulator, which is no effects of cross gain modulation and four-wave mixing existing in conventional SOA. The assistant light is used to speed up the SOA carrier recovery time. The principles of OOK to QPSK format conversion are expounded. The influences of the assistant light power and signal light power on the conversions are numerically analyzed. The OOK signal can still be exactly converted to the QPSK signal with the power of OOK signal being changed within a certain range.  相似文献

A scheme of all-optical data format conversion from nonreturn-to-zero to return-to-zero is proposed using quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers (QD SOAs) assisted Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). The proposed scheme has the potential to operate at much larger bit rate ∼160 Gb/s, and the converted signal has a lower frequency chirp. 160 Gb/s all-optical format conversion is verified through numerical simulations, and the output contrast ratio and Q-factor are analyzed to evaluate the system performance. With properly selected parameters, the converted signal with a contrast ratio over 8 dB and a Q-factor over 8 can be achieved.  相似文献

报道了一种利用单只半导体光放大器和光滤波器实现全光归零码到非归零码变换的新技术方案.当探测(Probe)光和数据信号光同时输入到SOA时,基于SOA中的交叉增益调制和交叉相位调制现象,探测光光谱的后沿和前沿将分别产生红移和蓝移.通过调节光滤波器和探测光的中心波长之间的失调量,滤出光谱的特定部分,可以得到转换后的NRZ码光信号.这种新型的全光码型变换器具有结构简单、偏振不敏感、控制参量少和稳定性高的特点.分别采用仿真和实验的方式实现了20 Gbit/s光数据信号从RZ码到NRZ码的全光码型变换,并且仿真结果和实验结果相吻合.  相似文献

We demonstrate on-chip all-optical pulse erasure based on four-wave mixing and cross-phase modulation in a dispersion engineered chalcogenide (As(2)S(3)) rib waveguide. We achieve an erasure efficiency of ~15 dB for picosecond pulses in good agreement with numerical simulations using the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation. The combined effect of the high instantaneous optical nonlinearity (γ = 9900 (W km)(-1)) and small group-velocity dispersion (D = 29 ps/nm km), which reduces pulse walk-off, will enable all-optical pulse erasure for ultrafast signal processing.  相似文献

码型转换是实现非归零(NRZ)信号全光时钟恢复的关键技术.提出了一种基于折叠式超快非线性干涉仪的全光NRZ到伪归零(PRZ)信号转换的新型方案.基于半导体光放大器的分段模型和超快非线性干涉仪的传输函数,建立了该方案的理论分析模型,数值模拟了不同速率下的码型转换过程.实验实现了稳定的10,20和40 Gbit/s的NRZ到PRZ信号的码型转换,分析了影响码型转换输出特性的因素,理论分析结果与实验结果基本符合. 关键词: 超快非线性干涉仪 半导体光放大器 全光码型转换  相似文献
