We investigate the optical bistability (OB) and optical multi-stability (OM) in a four-level N-type atomic system. The effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on OB and OM is then discussed. It is found that SGC makes the medium phase dependent, so the optical bistability and multi-stability threshold can be controlled via relative phase between applied fields. We realize that the frequency detuning of probe and coupling fields with the corresponding atomic transition plays an important role in creation OB and OM. Moreover, the effect of laser coupling fields and an incoherent pumping field on reduction of OB and OM threshold is then discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear optical phenomena of the optical bistability and multistability via spontaneously generated coherence in an asymmetric double quantum well structure coupled by a weak probe field and a controlling field. It is shown that the threshold and hysteresis cycle of the optical bistability can be conveniently controlled only by adjusting the intensity of the SGC or the controlling field. Moreover, switching between optical bistability and multistability can be achieved. These studies may have practical significance for the preparation of optical bistable switching device.  相似文献

研究一个具有两个靠得足够近激发能级的双Lambda模型, 在矩形脉冲中分离出光学前驱动场. 当耦合场是大失谐时, 该原子系统在自发辐射相干效应的影响下产生一个透明窗口并伴随着陡峭的色散曲线. 因此, 由于透明窗口中的慢光效应可以使光学前驱动场从主脉冲场中分离出来. 另外, 我们通过调控脉冲波形序列研究探测场相位和幅值的累积光学前驱动波. 数值结果表明: 由于累积光前驱动场与脉冲主场的相长干涉大大地提高瞬态脉冲的能量.  相似文献

The effects of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) and phases of optical fields on the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) are investigated in a four-level inverted-Y system and in a five-level K-type system under various parametric conditions in order to demonstrate controllability of the EIT, dispersion properties, and group velocity in such systems. Non-zero second-order susceptibility in both systems is due to the SGC effect. The experimental viability of the model in semiconductor quantum well systems is also discussed.  相似文献

A model of electromagnetically induced grating (EIG) assisted by the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) in the ladder-plus-Y double quantum dot (DQD) system is proposed. Using the density matrix theory, the amplitude and phase of the transmission function are studied. It is shown that the transmission is enhanced by the presence of SGC, and the resultant diffraction intensity can increase by controlling the phase. The SGC-assisted EIG controlled by two, three, and four coupling optical fields are studied respectively. Remarkably, we find that the system acquires a huge diffraction intensity when the wetting layer-quantum dot (WL-QD) field is high in the case of four coupling fields.  相似文献

The effect of spontaneously generated coherence on the probe response in an open ladder atomic system with equispaced levels is studied. The result shows that by adjusting the strength of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and high dispersion (index of refraction) with zero absorption can be realized, a much larger gain without inversion (GWI) than that without SGC can be obtained. Moreover, in the open system and for some strength of SGC, GWI without the incoherent pumping is much larger than that with the incoherent pumping; however, in the corresponding closed system, when the incoherent pumping is absent, we cannot obtain any gain (with or without inversion) for any strength of SGC. In addition, the manipulation role of the atomic exit and injection rates on SGC-dependent absorption property is analyzed for the case when the incoherence pumping does not exist.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation is carried out into the effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on the left-handedness in a four-level Y-type atomic system with two highest nearly degenerate lying levels. It is found, with the spontaneously generated coherence intensity enhancing, the atomic system gradually displays left-handedness with simultaneous negative permittivity and permeability. And the refractive index enhances with the increasing intensity of SGC. However, the absorption is suppressed by the SGC effect when the SGC has a large intensity. When the probe field is near-resonant coupled to the atomic system, the appearance of SGC doesn’t always change the permeability from positive to negative and allow for lefthanded behavior, unless the SGC reaches a large intensity.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation is carried out into the effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on Kerr nonlinearity of a four-level N-type system. It’s found that the Kerr nonlinearity can be obviously enhanced with SGC present. We attribute the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity mainly to the generation of extra coherences induced by the superposition of the two SGC channels, and when the superposition is controlled by the interference between two SGC channels properly, the maximal Kerr nonlinearity does not only enter the electromagnetically induced transparency window as the spontaneous generated coherences intensify, but also gets enhanced about 10 times with very large SGC coefficients than that with no SGC effect.  相似文献

In this paper, we have suggested a configuration based on Rydberg atoms for adjusting properties of optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) via spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) in a unidirectional ring cavity. The Rydberg atoms consist of four energy levels interacts by a weak probe and a strong coupling fields, respectively. We have found that due to presence of SGC, threshold of OB and OM can be controlled when the strong light coupled the intermediate levels to the Rydberg state.

Electromagnetically induced phase grating controlled by spontaneous emission is studied. The results show that the diffraction efficiency of phase grating is strikingly enhanced due to the existence of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), and the diffraction efficiency of 35% can be obtained in optimal SGC parameter case. Furthermore, at large SGC parameter, the high efficiency of phase grating can be maintained by the application of weak coupled and relatively strong probe fields, and choosing the proper length of atomic sample. At the same time, in such an atomic system, the SGC effect depends on incoherent pump.  相似文献

We have studied the effect of the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on gain of lasing without inversion (LWI) in a closed three-level $\Lambda $-type atomic system with Doppler broadening. It is shown that, regardless of the driving and probe fields being co- or counter-propagating, at a suitable value of the Doppler width, we can obtain a much larger LWI gain with SGC than that without SGC; and the region of the LWI gain spectrum with SGC is obviously larger than that without SGC. When the Doppler width takes a constant value, the gain does not monotonically decrease or increase with increasing strength of SGC, the largest LWI gain can be obtained by adjusting strength of SGC. Generally speaking, the co-propagating probe and driving fields is favourable to obtain a larger LWI gain.  相似文献

We display the phenomenon of the hole burning which appearing without saturation field under the effect of different parameters. Theoretically the effect of spontaneously generating coherence (SGC) on the probe polarization spectrum in a Doppler broadened four-level N-type atomic system are investigated when the two driven and probe fields are arranged in copropagating and counterpropagating configurations which play an important role in appearing the coherent hole-burning (CHB) phenomenon. The condition of appearing the hole burning in the polarization spectrum at the presence of spontaneously generating coherence (SGC) and the nonradiative decay rates is that the wave number fields are different.  相似文献

A particular example of the so-called minimum-configuration fiber ring interferometer whose loop comprises two different-length segments of a single-mode optical fiber with the same linear birefringence but different twisting is used to show that even in the case where the birefringence axes at the loop input coincide with the polarizer transmission direction, the phenomenon of polarization nonreciprocity of the fiber ring interferometer can emerge. It is shown that polarization nonreciprocity can be eliminated by the proper adjustment of the axes of a single-mode optical fiber, but the above adjustment should be changed if the waveguide temperature is changed. It is also shown that polarization nonreciprocity is a function of the light wavelength and the polarization nonreciprocity value in a fiber ring interferometer varies quasiperiodically in response to the temperature change in an optical fiber with random irregularities.  相似文献

This paper investigates the effects of the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) and incoherent pumping field on the dynamical behaviors of the dispersion and the absorption. Using a three-level Λ-type atomic medium, the influence of the relative phase between the applied fields on the transient dispersion and absorption is discussed. It is shown that the phase dependence of the dispersion and the absorption not only depend on the existence of SGC, but they depend on the existence of the incoherent pumping field as well. We show that the medium can be used as an optical switch in which the propagation of the laser pulse can be controlled by another laser field.  相似文献

We discuss and analyze the absorption properties of a weak probe field in a typical four-level atomic system in the presence of a spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) term. The influences of the SGC and a coherent pump field on the probe absorption-amplification are investigated. The results show that the absorption of such a weak probe field can be dramatically enhanced due to the SGC effect. At the same time, the probe-absorption profile exhibits a two-peak structure and the probe-absorption peak gradually decreases as the pump intensity increases. On the contrary, the amplification of such a weak probe field near the line center of the probe transition can be achieved by adjusting the coherent pump field intensity in the absence of the SGC effect.  相似文献

In this paper, coherent and incoherent control of optical properties of open ladder- type three-level atomic system is investigated. It is shown that in the presence of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) and incoherent pumping filed, group velocity, absorption and dispersion of the probe field can be controlled by adjusting the ratio between atomic injection and exit rates. Also, the bistabal behaviors of the system are discussed. It is shown that the ratio between atomic injections and exit rate can influence the bistabal threshold intensity and related hysteresis loop. More interestingly, it is found that SGC and incoherent pumping field effects have a central role for distinguishing between open and closed system.  相似文献

Nonreciprocal devices are indispensable for building quantum networks and ubiquitous in modern communication technology. Here, we propose to take advantage of the interference between optomechanical interaction and linearly-coupled interaction to realize optical nonreciprocal transmission in a double-cavity optomechanical system. Particularly, we have derived essential conditions for perfect optical nonreciprocity and analysed properties of the optical nonreciprocal transmission. 光子带隙是指某一频率范围的波不能在周期变化的空间介质中传播,即这种结构本身存在“禁带”,并已成功地应用于滤波器、放大器和混频器等器件的设计中.此前,许多专家都致力于提高带隙的反射率,但其只能逐渐接近1.本文在囚禁于一维光晶格中的冷原子介质中实现两个可调光子带隙,并通过选择两基态为精细结构的三能级∧型原子系统,考虑自发辐射相干效应来探究这两个带隙的反射率.适当调节参数,探测场出现增益,从而获得较高反射率的带隙结构,甚至可以超过1.此外,两个带隙反射率还可以通过调节偶极矩之间的夹角以及非相干驱动场强度等参数来操控.  相似文献

We investigate the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) in a Doppler broadened four-level atomic system driven by two coherent fields. We plot the spontaneous emission spectra with different parameters and discuss how the initial atomic conditions and parameters of both fields change the number of peaks and dark lines of spontaneous emission spectra. Furthermore, we also show how the spontaneous emission spectrum is modified by Doppler effects in the viewed direction. Our results have important references to the experimental observation of SGC in hot atomic vapors.  相似文献
