Spatial coherence resonance in a two-dimensional neuronal network induced by additive Gaussian coloured noise and parameter diversity is studied. We focus on the ability of additive Gaussian coloured noise and parameter diversity to extract a particular spatial frequency (wave number) of excitatory waves in the excitable medium of this network. We show that there exists an intermediate noise level of the coloured noise and a particular value of diversity, where a characteristic spatial frequency of the system comes forth. Hereby, it is verified that spatial coherence resonance occurs in the studied model. Furthermore, we show that the optimal noise intensity for spatial coherence resonance decays exponentially with respect to the noise correlation time. Some explanations of the observed nonlinear phenomena are also presented.  相似文献

Spatial coherence resonance in a spatially extended system that is locally modeled by Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) neurons is studied in this paper. We focus on the ability of additive temporally and spatially uncorrelated Gaussian noise to extract a particular spatial frequency of excitatory waves in the medium, whereby examining the impact of diffusive and small-world network topology that determines the interactions amongst coupled HH neurons. We show that there exists an intermediate noise intensity that is able to extract a characteristic spatial frequency of the system in a resonant manner provided the latter is diffusively coupled, thus indicating the existence of spatial coherence resonance. However, as the diffusive topology of the medium is relaxed via the introduction of shortcut links introducing small-world properties amongst coupled HH neurons, the ability of additive Gaussian noise to evoke ordered excitatory waves deteriorates rather spectacularly, leading to the decoherence of the spatial dynamics and with it related absence of spatial coherence resonance. In particular, already a minute fraction of shortcut links suffices to substantially disrupt coherent pattern formation in the examined system.  相似文献

Heterogeneity of the neurons and noise are inevitable in the real neuronal network. In this paper, Gaussian white noise induced spatial patterns including spiral waves and multiple spatial coherence resonances are studied in a network composed of Morris-Lecar neurons with heterogeneity characterized by parameter diversity. The relationship between the resonances and the transitions between ordered spiral waves and disordered spatial patterns are achieved. When parameter diversity is introduced, the maxima of multiple resonances increases first, and then decreases as diversity strength increases, which implies that the coherence degrees induced by noise are enhanced at an intermediate diversity strength. The synchronization degree of spatial patterns including ordered spiral waves and disordered patterns is identified to be a very low level. The results suggest that the nervous system can profit from both heterogeneity and noise, and the multiple spatial coherence resonances are achieved via the emergency of spiral waves instead of synchronization patterns.  相似文献

The effects of additive correlated noise, which is composed of common Gaussian white noise and local Gaussian colored noise, on a square lattice network locally modelled by the Rulkov map are studied. We focus on the ability of noise to induce pattern formation in a resonant manner. It is shown that local Gaussian colored noise is able to induce pattern formation, which is more coherent at some noise intensity or correlation time, so it is able to induce spatiotemporal coherence resonance in the network. When common Gaussian white noise is applied in addition, it is seen that the correlated noise can induce coherent spatial structures at some intermediate noise correlation, while this is not the case for smaller and larger noise intensities. The mechanism of the observed spatiotemporal coherence resonance is discussed. It is also found that the correlation time of local colored noise has no evident effect on the optimal value of the noise strength for spatiotemporal coherence resonance in the network.  相似文献

The generation of coherent dynamics due to noise in an activator-inhibitor system describing bistable neural dynamics is investigated. We show that coherence can be induced in deterministically asymmetric regimes via symmetry restoration by multiplicative noise, together with the action of additive noise which induces jumps between the two stable steady states. The phenomenon is thus doubly stochastic, because both noise sources are necessary. This effect can be understood analytically in the frame of a small-noise expansion and is confirmed experimentally in a nonlinear electronic circuit. Finally, we show that spatial coupling enhances this coherent behavior in a form of system-size coherence resonance.  相似文献

The effect of noise on phase synchronization in small sets and larger populations of weakly coupled chaotic oscillators is explored. Both independent and correlated noise are found to enhance phase synchronization of two coupled chaotic oscillators below the synchronization threshold; this is in contrast to the behavior of two coupled periodic oscillators. This constructive effect of noise results from the interplay between noise and the locking features of unstable periodic orbits. We show that in a population of nonidentical chaotic oscillators, correlated noise enhances synchronization in the weak coupling region. The interplay between noise and weak coupling induces a collective motion in which the coherence is maximal at an optimal noise intensity. Both the noise-enhanced phase synchronization and the coherence resonance numerically observed in coupled chaotic R?ssler oscillators are verified experimentally with an array of chaotic electrochemical oscillators.  相似文献

This paper reported multiple induction of spiral waves with a stochastic signal in a square lattice network model composed of type I Morris-Lecar (ML) neurons, where each neuron is coupled to its four nearest neighbors. The induction occurs in two or three distinct regions of noise intensity, and thus enables emergence of multiple spatial coherence in the network, demonstrating a novel evidence of multiple coherence resonance. Emergence of this multiple spatial coherence resonance was evidenced by calculating the degree of spatial complexity, spatial correlation length, spatial structure function, circular symmetry, and signal-to-noise ratio curves. The network was further characterized by spatial frequency and inherent spatial scale, reflecting its inherent ability to manifest ordered pattern formation under the driven of noisy signals.  相似文献

Stochastic resonance (SR) in nonlinear systems is a counterintuitive concept in which a weak periodic signal and noise cooperate and give rise to a maximum in the signal-to-noise ratio at the output of the system when the noise is tuned to a certain value. The spatial coupling of a large number of oscillators showing SR may have a constructive effect and leads to the so-called array enhanced stochastic resonance (AESR). We discuss the possible application of SR and AESR concepts to charge density wave (CDW) dynamics in quasi-one-dimensional conductors. We show in a preliminary experiment that the addition of noise can modify the behavior of the CDW in the quasi-one-dimensional conductor K0.30MoO3.  相似文献

We study the spatial dynamics of spiral waves in noisy Hodgkin-Huxley neuronal ensembles evoked by different information transmission delays and network topologies. In classical settings of coherence resonance the intensity of noise is fine-tuned so as to optimize the system's response. Here, we keep the noise intensity constant, and instead, vary the length of information transmission delay amongst coupled neurons. We show that there exists an intermediate transmission delay by which the spiral waves are optimally ordered, hence indicating the existence of delay-enhanced coherence of spatial dynamics in the examined system. Additionally, we examine the robustness of this phenomenon as the diffusive interaction topology changes towards the small-world type, and discover that shortcut links amongst distant neurons hinder the emergence of coherent spiral waves irrespective of transmission delay length. Presented results thus provide insights that could facilitate the understanding of information transmission delay on realistic neuronal networks.  相似文献

We study the influence of correlations among discrete stochastic excitatory or inhibitory inputs on the response of the FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model. For any level of correlation, the emitted signal exhibits at some finite noise intensity a maximal degree of regularity, i.e., a coherence resonance. Furthermore, for either inhibitory or excitatory correlated stimuli, a double coherence resonance is observable. Double coherence resonance refers to a (absolute) maximum coherence in the output occurring for an optimal combination of noise variance and correlation. All of these effects can be explained by taking advantage of the discrete nature of the correlated inputs.  相似文献

We apply the modal coherence theory to evaluate the spatial mode structure of a 2×2 phase-coupled array of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). The eigenmode structure is extracted for different pump currents by measuring the degree of spatial coherence of all VCSEL pairs in the array. The results reveal the impact of optical disorder and spatial hole burning on the modal discrimination. The approach is useful more generally for the evaluation of spatial mode content of other laser array.  相似文献

We generated a white-light continuum array by directing femtosecond laser pulses into a liquid with a microlens array. Experimental evidence demonstrates that the spatial coherence is high within a single light source in the array. We also confirmed that all the light sources in the white-light continuum array are mutually coherent. We found that the simple self-phase modulation model cannot explain this high coherence between the white continuum sources.  相似文献

Noise considerations in the determination of diffusion tensor anisotropy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this study the noise sensitivity of various anisotropy indices has been investigated by Monte-Carlo computer simulations and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measurements in a phantom and 5 healthy volunteers. Particularly, we compared the noise performance of indices defined solely in terms of eigenvalues and those based on both the eigenvalues and eigenvectors. It is found that anisotropy indices based on both eigenvalues and eigenvectors are less sensitive to noise, and spatial averaging with neighboring pixels can further reduce the standard deviation. To reduce the partial volume effect caused by the spatial averaging with neighboring voxels, an averaging method in the time domain based on the orientation coherence of eigenvectors in repeated experiments has been proposed.  相似文献

In a network of noisy neuron oscillators with time-delayed coupling, we uncover a phenomenon of delay-enhanced spatiotemporal order. We find that time delay in the coupling can dramatically enhance the temporal coherence and spatial synchrony of the noise-induced spike trains. In addition, if the delay time is tuned to nearly match the intrinsic spiking period of the neuronal network, both the coherence and the synchrony reach maximum levels, demonstrating an interesting type of resonance phenomenon with delay. Such findings are shown to be robust to the change of the noise intensity and the rewiring probability of small-world network.  相似文献

A set of measures of coherence are defined and applied to the CALOPS experiment, conducted off the coast of Florida in the summer of 2007. A set of narrowband CW tones were transmitted from a towed source received on a 118-element bottom mounted horizontal line array (206 m aperture) with broadside oriented along the 250 m isobath. Two coherence measures are based upon the eigenvalue spread: the power factor and the eigenvalue ratio. This approach is not sensitive to array element error or model mismatch. Two measures are based upon phase residuals; these include the rms-phase error and the coherence function. Three measures are based upon power responses: beam width, array signal gain degradation, and array gain. These approaches have varying sensitivity to array location errors, model mismatch, signal-to-noise ratio, and the structure of the noise field. A Gaussian noise model is used to infer a coherence length from most of the coherence measures. The primary result is that coherence lengths increase with frequency and are on the order of 200 m, the length of the array. The frequency increased coherence length with frequency goes against conventional wisdom, which is to define the coherence length as a fixed number of wavelengths.  相似文献

Experimental evidence of coherence resonance in an optical system is reported. We show that the regularity of the excitable pulses in the intensity of a laser diode with optical feedback increases when adding noise, up to an optimal value of the noise strength. Both phase and amplitude fluctuations of the pulses play a relevant role in the dynamics of the system. We introduce the joint entropy of the two variables to generalize the indicator of coherence, and we put in evidence the mechanism of destruction of the excitable orbit after the resonance.  相似文献

We demonstrate coherence resonance in a dynamical system without external noise. The experimental evidence is reported in the low frequency fluctuations of a chaotic diode laser with optical feedback. The phenomenon is also verified numerically using the Lang-Kobayashi equations for a single solitary mode laser, without noise terms. Fast deterministic dynamics plays the role of an effective exciting noise, narrowing the resonance in the autonomous slow power drop cycles of the laser. This new result is the natural extension of deterministic stochastic resonance and noise induced coherence resonance predicted and observed in recent years.  相似文献

We study the effect of recycled noise, generated by the superposition of a primary Gaussian noise source with a second component of constant delay, in a parameter region below the threshold of supercritical Hopf bifurcation, by focussing on the performance of noise induced oscillations and coherence resonance. For fixed noise intensity, the amplitude and signal-to-noise ratio of the oscillation show periodic dependences on the delay time. The optimal noise intensity for the occurrence of coherence resonance also shows a periodic dependence on the delay. A theoretical analysis based on the stochastic normal form theory is presented, which qualitatively reproduces the simulation results with good agreement. This work presents a possible strategy for controlling noise induced oscillations and coherence resonance by deliberately adjusting the parameters of the recycled noise.  相似文献

We investigate the propagation of spiking regularity in noisy feedforward networks (FFNs) based on FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model systematically. It is found that noise could modulate the transmission of firing rate and spiking regularity. Noise-induced synchronization and synfire-enhanced coherence resonance are also observed when signals propagate in noisy multilayer networks. It is interesting that double coherence resonance (DCR) with the combination of synaptic input correlation and noise intensity is finally attained after the processing layer by layer in FFNs. Furthermore, inhibitory connections also play essential roles in shaping DCR phenomena. Several properties of the neuronal network such as noise intensity, correlation of synaptic inputs, and inhibitory connections can serve as control parameters in modulating both rate coding and the order of temporal coding.  相似文献
