Yb3+ doped phosphor of Gd2O3 (Gd2O3:Yb3+) have been prepared by solid state reaction method. The structure and the particle size have been determined by X-ray powder diffraction measurements. The average particle size of the phosphor is in between 35 and 50 nm. The particle size and structure of the phosphor was further confirmed by TEM analysis. The visible and NIR luminescence spectra were recorded under the 980 nm laser excitation. The visible upconversion luminescence of Yb3+ ion was due to cooperative luminescence and the presence of rare earth impurity ions. The cooperative upconversion and NIR luminescence spectra as a function of Yb3+ ion concentration were measured and the emission intensity variation with Yb3+ ion concentration was discussed. Yb3+ energy migration quenched the cooperative luminescence of Gd2O3:Yb3+ phosphor with doping level over 5%, while the NIR emission luminescence continuously increases with increasing Yb3+ ion concentration.  相似文献

The ZrO2:Er3+ codoped with Yb3+ phosphor powders have been prepared by the urea combustion route. Formation of the compounds ZrO2:Er3+ and ZrO2:Er3+, Yb3+ was confirmed by XRD. The frequency upconversion emissions in the green and red regions upon excitation with a CW diode laser at ~978 nm are reported. Codoping with Yb3+ enhances the emission intensities of the triply ionized erbium in the green and red spectral regions by about ~130 and ~820 times respectively. The emission properties of the ZrO2:Er3+ phosphor powders are discussed on the basis of excited state absorption, energy transfer, and cross-relaxation energy transfer mechanisms.  相似文献

The present paper reports the combustion synthesis of Yb3+ doped GdAlO3 phosphors. The structural characterization and luminescence spectra of Yb3+ doped GdAlO3 phosphors have been discussed. The effects of variable concentration of Yb3+ on Photoluminescence (PL) behavior were studied. The structural characterization was done by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission electron microscope technique (TEM). The good connectivity with grains and the semi-sphere line structure was found by TEM. The functional group analysis was carried out by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic techniques. The prepared phosphor gives emission spectra in visible as well as NIR region. Both emissions were studied as a function of Yb3+ concentration. The emission intensity variation with Yb3+ ion concentration for visible and NIR region were discussed separately. The NIR emission luminescence of GdAlO3:Yb3+ phosphor luminescence continuously increases with increasing Yb3+ ion concentration.  相似文献

We present some results obtained by Mössbauer spectroscopy on Yb3+ when substituted into YBa2Cu3O x -like compounds. For the fully substituted compound YbBa2Cu3O7, we describe the properties of the rare earth sublattice magnetic ordering which coexists with superconductivity. From measurements at the dilute substitution level, we study the Yb3+ crystal field properties and the thermal dependence of the Yb3+ paramagnetic relaxation rate. By making use of the molecular field produced on the Yb3+ probe by the magnetically correlated Cu(2), we examine the evolution of the Cu(2)-based magnetism as a function of carrier density and study the phase separation which occurs in the superconducting samples with intermediate oxygen levels. We also examine how the properties of the Yb3+ probe are influenced by the substitution of Pr3+ or Zn2+ (these substitutions are known to considerably influence the superconducting properties).  相似文献

When growing CaF2 crystal doped with rare-earth ions, most of these ions are present in a trivalent state. However, due to contact with graphite crucible, a small proportion of a number of ions (Eu, Sm, Yb and Tm) are reduced to a bivalent state. A similar situation takes place during fabrication of CaF2 ceramics doped with rare-earth metals. This fact is of particular importance for laser CaF2:Yb crystals (ceramics), a promising material for short-pulse, high-power, high-energy diode-pumped solid state lasers since the presence of bivalent Yb ions can be a source of thermal losses. To date, there has been no technique to determine Yb2+ concentration in as-grown crystals. The proposed technique is based on a total reduction of Yb3+ ions via the heating of as-grown CaF2 crystals with known concentration of Yb in the reducing atmosphere of metal vapour and determining the cross section of absorption bands of Yb2+ ions. The knowledge of these parameters allows estimation of the Yb2+ content in CaF2:Yb crystals or ceramics by analysing their absorption spectra. Examples of using this technique are given. The technology of CdF2 crystals reduction (an “additive colouring”) and features of colouring of crystals doped with rare-earth ions are considered.  相似文献

A complete spectroscopic investigation of a metaphosphate glass with composition Pb(PO3)2 doped with various amounts of Nd3+ and Yb3+ (1 up to 10 at.%) is reported. Efficient Nd3+ → Yb3+ energy transfers occur both radiatively and non-radiatively, the latter being dominant and partly resonant and partly phonon-assisted by phonons of the order of 950 cm−1, which fits well with the reported Raman spectrum of the material. These transfers mainly concern the 4F3/24I9/2 emission and the 2F7/22F5/2 absorption transitions of the Nd3+ and Yb3+ ions around 900 nm, respectively. They are analysed both via spectral and temporal data. The results show that about 5% Nd3+ and 5% Yb3+ ions have to be incorporated to reach energy transfers exceeding about 65%, which is in agreement with data recently reported in the case of a YAl3(BO3)4 crystal. Simulations based on the obtained data show that laser thresholds of a few tens of mW should be easily attainable by operating the materials in a channel waveguide configuration.  相似文献

The paramagnetic center of tetragonal symmetry formed by the Yb3+ ion in the KZnF3 crystal has been studied using methods of EPR, ENDOR and optical spectroscopy. The location of the impurity ion and the structural model of the complex differing from the model of the Yb3+ center in KMgF3 have been established. The empirical scheme of the energy levels of the Yb3+ ion has been found. The parameters of its interaction with the crystal electrostatic field and the hyperfine interaction with ligands of the nearest environment have been determined. The parameters of the crystal field were used for the analysis of the distortions of the crystal lattice in the vicinity of Yb3+. The parameters of the transferred hyperfine interaction have been calculated for the distances between Yb3+ and F ions of the nearest environment obtained taking into account the found distortions. They are in good agreement with the experimental values.  相似文献

Up-conversion phosphors BaLa2ZnO5 co-doped with Ho3+/Yb3+ were synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction method. The phase composition of the phosphors was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The structure of BaLa2ZnO5: 0.75% Ho/15% Yb phosphor was refined by the Rietveld method and results showed the decreased unit cell parameters and cell volume after doping Ho3+ and Yb3+, indicating Ho3+ and Yb3+ have successfully replaced La3+. Under the excitation of 980 nm diode laser, the strong green and weak red up-conversion emissions centered at 548 nm, 664 nm and 758 nm were observed, which originating from 5S2, 5F25I8, 5F45I8 and 5S2, 5F25I7 transitions of Ho3+ ions, respectively. The optimum doping concentrations of Ho3+ and Yb3+ were determined to be 0.75% and 15%, and the corresponding Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates are calculated to be x=0.298 and y=0.692. The related UC mechanism of Ho3+/Yb3+ co-doped BaLa2ZnO5 depending on pump power was studied in detail. The results indicate that BaLa2ZnO5: Ho3+/Yb3+ can be an effective candidate for up-conversion yellowish-green light emitter.  相似文献

NaGd(WO4)2:Yb3+, Ho3+ single crystals have been grown by the Czochralski technique along the (0 0 1) orientation. Conversion of the infrared (IR) radiation at 980 nm into the visible emission in NaGd(WO4)2 crystals containing several different concentrations of Yb3+ and Ho3+ has been investigated. The NaGd(WO4)2: 8 at. % Yb3+, 4 at. % Ho3+ system exhibits intense red upconverted emission originating from the 5F5 level. The upconversion mechanism in a Ho3+-Yb3+ system under near infrared excitation is discussed. It is concluded that the green emission is excited by energy transfers from Yb3+ to Ho3+, whereas excited state absorption is involved in the excitation of red emission. The emission cross-section of the 5F55I8 transition at about 660 nm was estimated by using the Füchtbauer–Ladengurg formula. PACS 78.55.Hx; 78.20.-e  相似文献

This work reports the upconversion luminescence properties of Tm3+/Yb3+ ions in lead tungstate tellurite (LTT) glasses. Judd–Oflet intensity parameters have been obtained from the absorption band intensities of Tm3+ singly-doped and Tm3+/Yb3+ co-doped LTT glasses. The spontaneous emission probabilities, radiative lifetimes and branching ratios for 1G4 and 3H4 emission levels of Tm3+ have been determined. Upconversion luminescence has been observed by exciting the samples at 980 nm (Yb3+:2F7/22F5/2) at room temperature. Four upconversion emission bands corresponding to the 1G43H6 (477 nm), 1G43F4 (651 nm), 1G43H5 (702 nm) and 3H43H6 (810 nm) transitions have been identified. The relative variation in the intensities of upconversion bands, the different channels responsible for upconversion spectra and the effect of Yb3+ ions concentration on the upconversion luminescence of Tm3+ ions have also been discussed.  相似文献

This paper reports the spectroscopic properties of Yb3+:Li3Ba2Y3(WO4)8 crystal. The polarized spectral properties of Yb3+:Li3Ba2Y3(WO4)8 crystal were investigated. The laser performance parameters βmin, Isat and Imin of Yb3+:Li3Ba2Y3(WO4)8 crystals have been also established. Yb3+:Li3Ba2Y3(WO4)8 crystal has a broad FWHM of the gain cross-section and larger absorption and emission cross-sections. These results may regard the Yb3+:Li3Ba2Y3(WO4)8 crystal as a tunable laser material.  相似文献

The host sensitized near‐infrared (NIR) emitting phosphor Sr2CaMoO6:Yb3+ was fabricated by the solid state reaction method. The structural refinement and Raman spectra elucidate that Yb3+ ions preferentially occupy Ca2+ sites. The phosphor can harvest ultraviolet (UV)–blue photons and exhibits intense NIR emission at around 1012 nm with full‐width‐at‐half‐maximum of 1635 cm–1. Moreover, the absolute NIR photoluminesence quantum yield (PLQY) is estimated to be about 9%. The Sr2CaMoO6:Yb3+ phosphor may be a promising luminescence downshifting material for improving the spectral response of solar cells in the UV region. (© 2014 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Polycrystalline GdAl3(BO3)4 phosphors codoped with Yb3+/Tb3+ and/or Nd3+/Yb3+/Tb3+ have been synthesized by combustion method. Upon excitation with a 980 nm laser diode, an intense green upconversion luminescence has been observed in GdAl3(BO3)4:Yb,Tb phosphor. The quadratic dependence of the luminescence on the pump-laser power indicating a cooperative energy transfer process. Meanwhile, it is noticed that upon excitation with 808 nm laser diode, intense luminescence has clearly been detected in GdAl3(BO3)4:Nd,Yb,Tb phosphor. The luminescence intensity exhibits also a quadratic dependence on incident pump-laser power. However, no green-emission has been observed in GdAl3(BO3)4 phosphors codoped with Yb3+/Tb3+ or Nd3+/Tb3+ respectively upon excited at 808 nm laser diode. A proposed upconversion mechanism involving energy transfer from Nd3+ to Yb3+, and then a cooperative energy transfer process from two excited Yb3+ to Tb3+ has been presented.  相似文献

The Er3+–Yb3+ co-doped MgAl2O4 phosphor powders have been prepared by the combustion method. The phosphor powders are well characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive (EDX) techniques. The absorption spectrum of Er3+/Er3+–Yb3+ doped/co-doped phosphor powder has been recorded in the UV–Vis–NIR region of the electro-magnetic spectrum. The evidence for indirect pumping under 980 nm excitation of Er3+ from Yb3+ was observed in the MgAl2O4 matrix material. Electron spin resonance (ESR) studies were carried out to identify the defect centres responsible for the thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) process in MgAl2O4:Er3+ phosphor. Three defect centres were identified in irradiated phosphor by ESR measurements which were carried out at room temperature and these were assigned to an O? ion and F+ centres. O? ion (hole centre) appears to correlate with the low temperature TSL peak at 210 °C and one of the F+ centres (electron centre) is related to the high temperature peak at 460 °C.  相似文献

A spectroscopic characterization was carried out to identify crystal-field levels for magnetic-dipole transitions of Yb3+ ions located in the Y3+ dodecahedral S4 crystallographic site in YLiF4 (YLF) crystals which were grown either by the Czochralski technique or by the laser heated pedestal growth (LHPG) technique. The concentration dependence of the measured decay time of the 2F5/2 excited level of Yb3+ was analysed in order to understand relevant concentration quenching mechanisms. Under Yb3+ ion infrared pumping, self-trapping and up-conversion non-radiative energy transfer to trace rare-earth impurities (Er3+, Tm3+) has been observed over the visible region and interpreted by a limited-diffusion process within the Yb3+ doping ion subsystem to the impurities. The principal parameters useful for a theoretical approach for potential laser applications of Yb3+-doped YLiF4 crystals have also been given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Energy losses in solar cells caused by the spectral mismatch can be reduced by adapting the solar spectrum using a downconversion material where one higher energy visible photon is ‘cut' into two lower energy near-infrared photons that both can be absorbed by the solar cell. Downconversion with the (Pr3+, Yb3+) couple in YF3 is investigated. Based on analysis of luminescence and diffuse reflectance spectra it is evident that two-step energy transfer takes place from the 3P0 level of Pr3+ (around 490 nm) exciting two Yb3+ to the 2F5/2 level giving emission around 980 nm. The transfer efficiency increases with Yb3+ concentration and is 86% for YF3 doped with 0.5% Pr3+ and 30% Yb3+. Due to concentration quenching the intensity of emission from Yb3+ is strongly reduced and the 2F5/2 emission intensity reaches a maximum for the sample with 0.5% Pr3+ and 2–5% Yb3+ at 300 K. Temperature dependent measurements reveal the role of the Pr3+ 1G4 level in the energy transfer between Pr3+ and Yb3+. Back-transfer of excitation energy from the Yb3+ 2F5/2 level to the 1G4 level of Pr3+ occurs and quenches the Yb3+ emission. The quenching is shown to become more efficient between 4 and 50 K due to faster phonon-assisted energy transfer between the Yb3+ donors. Upon raising the temperature from 50 to 300 K, the luminescence life time of the Yb3+ emission increases again because the small energy difference between the Pr3+ (1G4) level and the Yb3+ (2F5/2) level (~300 cm?1) which makes the 1G4 less efficient as a trap for the excitation energy. The present results give insight into factors involved in the concentration quenching in downconversion materials based on the (Pr3+, Yb3+) couple.  相似文献

The ytterbium ions doped MO-Al2O3 (M=Ca, Sr and Ba) phosphors have been synthesized through combustion technique and their up and down conversion fluorescence properties have been studied and compared. The samples were calcinated at different temperatures and their FTIR and XRD spectra have shown a close relationship. With 976 nm excitation all these phosphors show cooperative upconversion emission at 488 nm from the pairs of two Yb3+ ions along with an unexpected broad upconversion band in the blue green region and has been assigned to arise from the defect centers. Contrary to this upconversion emission, calcium aluminate phosphor exhibits bright and very broad down-conversion fluorescence (FWHM≈160 nm) upon UV (266 nm) excitation due to Yb2+ ions. The inter-conversion between the 3+ and 2+ valence states of Yb ion has been observed on calcinations of samples in open atmosphere and has been correlated to the emission properties. The Yb2+ ions containing calcium aluminate phosphor has been found suitable for producing broad band light in the visible region (white light). Lifetime of the emitting states of Yb3+ and Yb2+ ions have also been measured and discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the near-infrared luminescence from the Er3+/Yb3+, Tm3+/Yb3+, Er3+/Tm3+ and Nd3+ ions-doped TeO2-ZnO-B2O3-Li2O-Na2O glasses for optical amplification. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) profiles of the host glass matrix have been carried out. From the DSC thermogram, glass transition (Tg), crystallization (Tc) and melting (Tm) temperatures have been evaluated. The near-infrared spectra of Er3+/Yb3+, Tm3+/Yb3+, Er3+/Tm3+ and Nd3+ ions-doped glasses have shown full-width at half-maxima (FWHM) around 58, 127, 87 and 35 nm, respectively. These glasses with better thermal stability and broad near-infrared emissions should have potential applications in broadly tunable laser sources and broadband optical amplification at low-loss telecommunication windows.  相似文献
