We present in this paper the results of an ab initio theoretical study within the local density approximation (LDA) to determine in rock-salt (B1), cesium chloride (B2), zinc-blende (B3), and tungsten carbide (WC) type structures, the structural, elastic constants, hardness properties and high-pressure phase of the noble metal carbide of ruthenium carbide (RuC).The ground state properties such as the equilibrium lattice constant, elastic constant, the bulk modulus, its pressure derivative, and the hardness in the four phases are determined and compared with available theoretical data. Only for the three phases B1, B3, and WC, is the RuC mechanically stable, while in the B2 phase it is unstable, but in B3 RuC is the most energetically favourable phase with the bulk modulus 263 GPa, and at sufficiently high pressure (Pt=19.2 GPa) the tungsten carbide (WC) structure would be favoured, where ReC-WC is meta-stable.The highest bulk modulus values in the B3, B2, and WC structures and the hardnesses of H(B3)=36.94 GPa, H(B1)=25.21 GPa, and H(WC)=25.30 GPa indicate that the RuC compound is a superhard material in B3, and is not superhard in B1 and WC structures compared with the H(diamond)=96 GPa.  相似文献

The phase transition of gallium phosphide (GaP) from zinc-blende (ZB) to a rocksalt (RS) structure is investigated by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory (DFT). Lattice constant a0, elastic constants cij, bulk modulus B0 and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus B0' are calculated. The results are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. From the usual condition of equal enthalpies, the phase transition from the ZB to the RS structure occurs at 21.9 GPa, which is close to the experimental value of 22.0 GPa. The elastic properties of GaP with the ZB structure in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 21.9 GPa and those of the RS structure in a pressure range of pressures from 21.9 GPa to 40 GPa are obtained. According to the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the phononic effects are considered, the normalized volume V/V0, the Debye temperature θ, the heat capacity Cv and the thermal expansion coefficient α are also discussed in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 40 GPa and a temperature range from 0 K to 1500 K.  相似文献

The elastic and thermodynamic properties of CsCl-type structure CaB6 under high pressure are investigated by first-principles calculations based on plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated lattice parameters of CaB6 under zero pressure and zero temperature are in good agreement with the existing experimental data and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of the elastic constants, bulk modulus B (GPa), and its pressure derivative B′, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, elastic Debye temperature ΘB, Zener's anisotropy parameter A, Poisson ratios σ, and Kleinmann parameter ζ are also presented. An analysis for the calculated elastic constants has been made to reveal the mechanical stability of CaB6 up to 100 GPa. The thermodynamic properties of the CsCl-type structure CaB6 are predicted using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The pressure-volume-temperature (P-V-T) relationship, the variations of the heat capacity CV, Debye temperature ΘD, and the thermal expansion α with pressure P and temperature T, as well as the Grüneisen parameters γ are obtained systematically in the ranges of 0-100 GPa and 0-2000 K.  相似文献

The structural stability and mechanical properties of WC in WC-, MoC- and NaCl-type structures under high pressure are investigated systematically by first-principles calculations. The calculated equilibrium lattice constants at zero pressure agree well with available experimental and theoretical results. The formation enthalpy indicates that the most stable WC is in WC-type, then MoC-type finally NaCl-type. By the elastic stability criteria, it is predicted that the three structures are all mechanically stable. The elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young?s modulus E and Poisson?s ratio ν of the three structures are studied in the pressure range from 0 to 100 GPa. Furthermore, by analyzing the B/G ratio, the brittle/ductile behavior under high pressure is assessed. Moreover, the elastic anisotropy of the three structures up to 100 GPa is also discussed in detail.  相似文献

The high pressure structural, elastic and thermal properties of holmium pnictides HoX (X=N, P, As and Bi) were investigated theoretically by using an inter-ionic potential theory with modified ionic charge parameter. We have predicted a structural phase transition from NaCl (B1) to CsCl (B2)-type structure at pressure of 139 GPa for HoN, 52 GPa for HoP, 44 GPa for HoAs and 26 GPa for HoBi. Other properties, such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, cohesive energy, second and third-order elastic constants were calculated and compared with the available experimental and theoretical data. In order to gain further information the brittle behaviour of these compounds was observed. Some other properties like Shear modulus (G), Young's modulus (E), Poisson's ratio (ν), anisotropy factor (A), sound velocities, Debye temperature (θD) were calculated. The variation of elastic constants (C11 and C44) and Debye temperature (θD) with pressure was also presented.  相似文献

We have investigated the pressure variation of the volume and structure of an FCC Fe64Mn36 anti-ferromagnetic Invar alloy. The inclination of the pressure-volume (P-V) curve of the FCC structure becomes discontinuous at a pressure of 4 GPa. According to the bulk modulus at zero pressure estimated by the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state, the pressure between 4 and 10 GPa is 33 GPa larger than that at a pressure below 4 GPa. Considering previous experiments on magnetism at high pressure the Neel temperature at 4 GPa almost decreases to room temperature. These results suggest that the increase in the bulk modulus by 33 GPa can be attributed to the pressure-induced magnetic phase transition from anti-ferromagnetism to paramagnetism. Volume at zero pressure was estimated using the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. The volume of FCC structure in the anti-ferromagnetic state was 1.17% larger than the volume in the paramagnetic state, namely, the spontaneous magnetostriction was 1.17%. Pressure-induced structural transition from FCC to HCP occurs with an increase in the pressure, especially at up to 5 GPa. The value of c/a is 1.62; this value almost corresponds to that of an ideal HCP structure. The bulk modulus of the HCP structure estimated by the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state is larger than that of the FCC structure, and the volume/atom ratio is smaller than that of the FCC structure.  相似文献

The elastic properties of zinc-blend (ZB) and rock-salt (RS) MgS are calculated by ab initio method. The calculation shows that the enthalpy for RS structure and for ZB structure essentially is the same at ambient pressure. The ZB structure becomes unstable above 5 GPa. For these two structures, the pressure dependences of typical elastic properties, i.e. the bulk modulus, the shear modulus, the Young's modulus, the Poisson's ratio, and the anisotropy factor, are presented. The Debye temperature and sound velocity under high pressure have also been calculated. Debye approximation is used to estimate the zero-point vibrational energy.  相似文献

The electronic, elastic constants and optical properties of rutile TiO2 have been investigated using first principle pseudopotential method within generalized gradient approximation (GGA) proposed by Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE). The calculated volume, bulk modulus and pressure derivative of bulk modulus are in good agreement with previous experimental and computational results. An underestimated band gap (1.970 eV) along with the higher density of states and expanded energy bands around the fermi level is obtained. Calculated elastic constants satisfying the Born stability criteria suggest that rutile TiO2 is mechanically stable under higher hydrostatic pressure. The acoustic wave speeds in [1 0 0], [0 1 0], [0 0 1], [1 1 0] and [45° to [1 0 0] and [0 0 1]] directions are predicted using the investigated elastic constants. The dielectric constant is identified with respect to electronic band structure and is utilized to derive the other optical properties like refractive index, energy loss function, reflectivity and absorption. The effect of hydrostatic pressure (0-70 GPa) is described for listed properties. Our investigated results are in good accord with the existing theoretical and experimental results.  相似文献

The lattice parameters, bulk modulus, phase transition pressure, and temperature dependencies of the elastic constants cij of CdSe are investigated by using the Cambridge Serial Total Energy Package (CASTEP) program in the frame of Density Functional Theory (DFT). It is found that the phase transitions from the ZB structure to the RS structure and from WZ structure to RS structure are 2.2 GPa and 2.8 GPa, respectively. Our results agree well with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. The aggregate elastic modulus (B, G, E, A), the Poisson's ratio (υ), the Grüneisen parameter (γ), the Debye temperature ΘD on pressure and temperature are also successfully obtained.  相似文献

We present a synchrotron X-ray diffraction study of pressure-induced changes in nanocrystalline anatase (with a crystallite size of 30-40 nm) to 35 GPa. The nanoanatase was observed to a pressure above 20 GPa. Direct transformation to the baddeleyite-TiO2 polymorph was seen at 18 GPa. A fit of the pressure versus volume data to a Birch-Murnaghan equation yielded the following parameters: zero-pressure volume, V0=136.15 Å3, bulk modulus, KT=243(3) GPa, and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus, K′=4 (fixed). The bulk modulus value obtained for the nanocrystalline anatase is about 35% larger than that of the macrocrystalline counterpart.  相似文献

The structural and elastic properties of the antiperovskite semiconductor AsNMg3 are investigated using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW+lo) method within the generalized gradient in the frame of the density functional theory. The ground state properties such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, pressure derivative of the bulk modulus and elastic constants are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the phononic effects are considered, we have obtained successfully the thermodynamic properties such as the thermal expansion coefficient, Debye temperature and specific heats in the whole pressure range from 0 to 30 GPa and temperature range from 0 to 1200 K.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and electronic properties of Ti2SiN were studied by first-principle calculations. The calculated bond lengths of Ti-Si and Ti-C are 2.65 and 2.09 Å, respectively. The results show Ti2SiN is mechanically stable, and its bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Poisson's ratio μ and anisotropy factor A are determined to be 182 GPa, 118 GPa, 291 GPa, 0.233 and 1.57, respectively. The calculated electronic structure indicates that Ti2SiN is anisotropic and conductive.  相似文献

We have investigated the structural and elastic properties of TiN at high pressures by the first-principles plane wave pseudopotential density functional theory method at applied pressures up to 45.4 GPa. The obtained normalized volume dependence of the resulting pressure is in excellent agreement with the experimental data investigated using synchrotron radial x-ray diffraction (RXRD) under nonhydrostatic compression up to 45.4 GPa in a diamond-anvil cell. Three independent elastic constants at zero pressure and high pressure are calculated. From the obtained elastic constants, the bulk modulus, Young's modulus, shear modulus, acoustic velocity and Debye temperature as a function of the applied pressure are also successfully obtained.  相似文献

The elastic properties of the hexagonal-close-packed (hcp) structure rhenium (Re) and their behavior under pressure are investigated using the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The obtained high pressure elastic constants are well consistent with previous theoretical date, while large discrepancies are found between theory and the high pressure experiments. The calculated isothermal bulk modulus B0 (376 GPa for GGA and 389 GPa for LDA) and its initial pressure derivative (4.52 for LDA and 4.58 for GGA) compare favorably with the experimental values. Moreover, it is found that the value of c/a, B/G, Poisson's ratio, and Bc/Ba are virtually independent of pressure. We also performed calculation for phonon dispersions at high pressure. GGA in our calculation exhibits a same trend as the high pressure experimental curve.  相似文献

The phase transition of ZnS from the zincblende (ZB) structure to the rocksalt (RS) structure is investigated by the ab initio plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. It is found that the pressures for transition from the ZB structure to the RS structure are 17.5 GPa from total energy-volume data and 15.4 GPa from equal enthalpies, consistent with the experimental data. From the high pressure elastic constants obtained, we find that the ZB structure ZnS is unstable when the applied pressure is larger than 17 GPa. Moreover, the dependence of the normalized primitive cell volume V/V0 on pressure P can also be successfully obtained.  相似文献

First-principles calculations of the crystal structure and the elastic properties of RuB2 have been carried out with the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated values are in very good agreement with experimental data as well as with some of the existing model calculations. The elastic constants cij, the aggregate elastic moduli (B, G, E), Poisson's ratio, and the elastic anisotropy with pressure have been investigated. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model considering the phonon effects, the isothermal bulk modulus, the thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters, and Debye temperatures depending on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range from 0 to 60 GPa and temperature range from 0 to 1100 K as well as compared to available data.  相似文献

Structural, elastic and mechanical properties of orthorhombic SrHfO3 under pressure have been investigated using the plane-wave ultrasoft pseudopotential technique based on the first-principles density functional theory. The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters and elastic constants of orthorhombic SrHfO3 at zero pressure are in good agreement with the available experimental and calculational values. The lattice parameters, total enthalpy, elastic constants and mechanical stability of orthorhombic SrHfO3 as a function of pressure were studied. With the increasing pressure, the lattice parameters and volume of orthorhombic SrHfO3 decrease whereas the total enthalpy increases. Orthorhombic SrHfO3 is mechanically stable with low pressure (<52.9 GPa) whereas that is mechanically instable with high pressure (>52.9 GPa). The bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus and mechanical anisotropy of orthorhombic SrHfO3 as a function of pressure were analyzed. It is found that orthorhombic SrHfO3 under pressure has larger bulk modulus, better ductility and less mechanical anisotropy than orthorhombic SrHfO3 at 0 GPa.  相似文献

We investigate the structural and elastic properties of LaTiO3 by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The lattice constants, bulk modulus and its pressure derivative are obtained. These properties in the equilibrium phase are well consistent with the available experimental data. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants, ductility, mechanical stabilities, sound velocity and Debye temperatures are investigated for the first time. From the ratio G/B, we conclude that LaTiO3 is ductile at 0 GPa and becomes more ductile at high pressure. In addition, the anisotropy factors for every symmetry plane and axis as well as linear bulk modulus at diverse pressures have been obtained.  相似文献

The pressure-volume-temperature behavior of osmium was studied at pressures and temperatures up to 15 GPa and 1273 K. In situ measurements were conducted using energy-dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction in a T-cup 6-8 high pressure apparatus. A fit of room-temperature data by the third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation-of-state yielded isothermal bulk modulus K0=435(19) GPa and its pressure derivative K0=3.5(0.8) GPa. High-temperature data were analyzed using Birch-Murnaghan equation of state and thermal pressure approach. The temperature derivative of bulk modulus was found to be −0.061(9) GPa K−1. Significant anisotropy of osmium compressibility was observed.  相似文献

The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of α-phase Na3N under pressure are investigated by performing first principles calculations within generalized gradient approximation. The elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio dependencies on pressure are also calculated. The thermodynamic properties of the α-phase Na3N are calculated using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The dependencies of the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient, as well as the Grüneisen parameter on pressure and temperature are investigated systematically in the ranges of 0–1 GPa and 0–100 K.  相似文献
