Thin titanium dioxide films are deposited on glass substrates by magnetron sputter deposition. They are irradiated in air, by means of a KrF excimer laser. The ablation rate is measured as a function of the laser fluence per pulse, F, and of the number of pulses, N. Above a fluence threshold, the films are partially ablated. The ablated thickness does not vary linearly with N. This is the signature of a negative feedback between the film thickness and the ablation rate. The origin of this negative feedback is shown to be due to either thermal or electronic effects, or both. At high F, the film detachs from the substrate.  相似文献

Laser dry etching by a laser driven direct writing apparatus has been extensively used for the micro- and nano-patterning on the solid surface. The purpose of this study is to pattern the PEDOT:PSS thin film coated on the soda-lime glass substrates by a nano-second pulsed ultraviolet laser processing system. The patterned PEDOT:PSS film structure provides the electrical isolation and prevents the electrical contact from each region for capacitive touch screens. The surface morphology, geometric dimension, and edge quality of ablated area after the variety of laser patternings were measured by a 3D confocal laser scanning microscope. After the single pulse laser irradiation, the ablation threshold of the PEDOT:PSS film conducted by the nano-second pulsed UV laser was determined to be 0.135±0.003 J/cm2. The single pulse laser interacted region and the ablated line depth increased with increasing the laser fluence. Moreover, the inner line width of ablated PEDOT:PSS films along the patterned line path increased with increasing the laser fluence but the shoulder width increased with decreasing fluence, respectively. The clean, smooth, and straight ablated edges were accomplished after the electrode patterning with the laser fluence of 1.7 J/cm2 and 90 % overlapping rate.  相似文献

Plasma laser ablation experiments were performed irradiating glassy-carbon targets placed in vacuum through a pulsed Nd:YAG laser operating at the second harmonic (532 nm), 9 ns pulse width and 109 W/cm2 density power.

Thin films of ablated carbon were deposited on silicon oxide substrates placed at different distances and angles with respect to the target.

The analysis of the deposited material was carried out by using surface profiler, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopy.

Results show the evidence of carbon nanocrystals and nanostructures with dimension of the order of 100 nm deposited on the substrates together with a large amount of amorphous phase. The spectroscopic investigations and the SEM images indicate the formation of nanodiamond seeds as a nucleation process induced on the substrate surface. Nanostructures were investigated as a function of the laser intensity and angle distribution. Experimental results were compared with the literature data coming from nanodiamonds growth with different techniques.

Experiments performed at Instituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare-Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (INFN-LNS) of Catania (Italy) and data analysis conducted at Dipartimento di Fisica and DFMTA of the Università of Messina (Italy), CNR-ITIS of Messina and ST-Microelectronics of Catania will be presented and discussed.  相似文献

The influence of laser fluence on the properties of thin films of tantalum oxide is studied in this paper, varying the laser fluence from 5.7 to 8.3 J/cm2. Thin films of tantalum oxide were deposited on glass substrates using pulsed-laser ablation technique. X-ray diffraction studies confirm the amorphous/nanocrystalline nature of all the films irrespective of the laser fluence. The Tauc plot analysis suggests that tantalum oxide is an indirect band gap material, whose band gap decreases with increase in laser fluence. The refractive index of the films is found to decrease with increase in laser fluence but the extinction coefficient of the films increases with increase in laser fluence. Fourier transform infrared studies suggest the use of tantalum oxide thin films as oxygen sensors. Micro-Raman analysis reveals the sensitiveness of Ta-O-Ta and Ta-O vibration modes to laser fluence. Among all the films, the film deposited at a laser fluence of 7 J/cm2 is found to be superior in quality.  相似文献

The ablation threshold and Laser-induced periodic surface structure (LIPSS) formation on copper thin film were investigated using a picosecond laser (Nd:YAG laser: 266 nm, 42 ps, 10 Hz). We show that the ablation threshold varies with respect to the number of laser shots (N) on two different substrates. The single-shot ablation threshold was estimated to be close to 170 ± 20 mJ/cm2. The incubation coefficient was estimated to be 0.68 ± 0.03 for copper thin films on silicon and glass substrates. In addition, morphology changes of the ablated regions, in the same spot area, were studied as a function of fluence and number of laser shots. An intermediate structure occurred with a mix of low spatial frequency LIPSS (LSFL), high spatial frequency LIPSS (HSFL) and regular spikes at a fluence F < 250 mJ/cm2 and 1,000 < N ≤ 10.000 shots. LSFL was observed with a spatial period close to the irradiation wavelength and an orientation perpendicular to the laser polarization, and HSFL with a spatial period of ~120 nm and a parallel orientation. Lastly, the global relationship between the laser parameters (i.e. fluence and number of shots) and LIPSS formation was established in the form of a 2D map.  相似文献

Here, we report the fabrication of diamond-like carbon (DLC) thin films using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). PLD is a well-established technique for deposition of high-quality DLC thin films. Carbon tape target was ablated using a KrF (248 nm, 25 ns, 20 Hz) excimer laser to deposit DLC films on soap-coated substrates. A laser fluence between 8.5 and 14 J/cm2 and a target to substrate distance of 10 cm was used. These films were then released from substrates to obtain freestanding DLC thin foils. Foil thicknesses from 20 to 200 nm were deposited using this technique to obtain freestanding targets of up to 1-inch square area. Typically, 100-nm-thick freestanding DLC films were characterized using different techniques such as AFM, XPS, and nano-indentation. AFM was used to obtain the film surface roughness of 9 nm rms of the released film. XPS was utilized to obtain 74 % sp2, 23 % sp3, and 3 % C–O bond components. Nano-indentation was used to characterize the film hardness of 10 GPa and Young’s modulus of 110 GPa. Damage threshold properties of the DLC foils were studied (1,064 nm, 6 ns) and found to be 7 × 1010 W/cm2 peak intensity for our best ultrathin DLC foils.  相似文献

The growth process of silver thin films deposited by pulsed laser ablation in a controlled inert gas atmosphere was investigated. A pure silver target was ablated in Ar atmosphere, at pressures ranging between 10 and 100 Pa, higher than usually adopted for thin film deposition, at different numbers of laser shots. All of the other experimental conditions such as the laser (KrF, wavelength 248 nm), the fluence of 2.0 J cm−2, the target to substrate distance of 35 mm, and the temperature (295 K) of the substrates were kept fixed. The morphological properties of the films were investigated by transmission and scanning electron microscopies (TEM, SEM). Film formation results from coalescence on the substrate of near-spherical silver clusters landing as isolated particles with size in the few nanometers range. From a visual inspection of TEM pictures of the films deposited under different conditions, well-separated stages of film growth are identified.  相似文献

Vanadium dioxide thin films have been deposited on Corning glass substrates by a KrF laser ablation of V2O5 target at the laser fluence of 2 J?cm?2. The substrate temperature and the target-substrate distance were set to 500 °C and 4 cm, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that pure VO2 is only obtained at an oxygen pressure range of 4×10?3–2×10?2 mbar. A higher optical switching contrast was obtained for the VO2 films deposited at 4×10?3–10?2 mbar. The films properties were correlated to the plume-oxygen gas interaction monitored by fast imaging of the plume.  相似文献

The possibility of interlayer mixing in a Ti/Ta multilayer system, induced by laser irradiation, was the main purpose of these experiments. Ti/Ta multilayer system, consisting of ten alternating Ti and Ta thin films and covered by slightly thicker Ti layer, was deposited on Si (100) wafers to a total thickness of 205 nm. Laser irradiation was performed in air by picoseconds Nd:YAG laser pulses in defocused regime with fluences of 0.057 and 0.11 J cm?2. Laser beam was scanned over the 5?×?5 mm surface area with different steps along y-axes. Structural and compositional characterisation was done by auger electron spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Laser processing at lower fluence caused only oxidation of the top Ti layer, despite of the number of applied laser pulses. Interlayer mixing was not observed. Application of laser pulses at fluence of 0.11 J cm?2 caused partial and/or complete ablation of deposited layers. In partially ablated regions considerable mixing between Ti and Ta films was registered.  相似文献

To know and to control experimental parameters that play a role in laser ablation is vital to define film properties. Among the others, laser fluence is commonly used. Yet, when plasma expansion dynamics takes place through an ambient gas, the relation between the ablated mass per pulse and gas mass is critical and till now it was poorly investigated. While the gas mass is fixed by the pressure in the deposition chamber, the ablated mass is not unequivocally determined by the laser fluence. For a given fluence value the ablated mass changes as a function of the irradiated target area. Here, we show that nanostructured silver thin films deposited keeping unaltered the laser fluence, while changing in a controlled way the irradiated area and hence the ablated mass per pulse, display markedly differentiated morphological and optical properties, as evidenced by electron microscopy and UV–Vis and Raman spectroscopies.  相似文献

The structure of thin films deposited by pulsed laser ablation (PLD) is strongly dependent on experimental conditions, like laser wavelength and fluence, substrate temperature and pressure. Depending on these parameters we obtained various kinds of carbon materials varying from dense, mainly tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C), to less compact vertically oriented graphene nano-particles. Thin carbon films were grown by PLD on n-Si 〈100〉 substrates, at temperatures ranging from RT to 800°C, from a rotating graphite target operating in vacuum. The laser ablation of the graphite target was performed by a UV pulsed ArF excimer laser (λ=193 nm) and a pulsed Nd:YAG laser, operating in the near IR (λ=1064 nm). The film structure and texturing, characterised by X-ray diffraction analysis, performed at grazing incidence (GI-XRD), and the film density, evaluated by X-ray reflectivity measurements, are strongly affected both by laser wavelength and fluence and by substrate temperature. Micro-Raman and GI-XRD analysis established the progressive formation of aromatic clusters and cluster condensation into vertically oriented nano-sized graphene structures as a direct function of increasing laser wavelength and deposition temperature. The film density, negatively affected by substrate temperature and laser wavelength and fluence, in turn, results in a porous bulk configuration and a high macroscopic surface roughness as shown by SEM characterisation. These structural property modifications induce a relevant variation also on the emission properties of carbon nano-structures, as evidenced by field emission measurements. Thin silver films were deposited by pulsed laser ablation in a controlled Ar atmosphere and their SERS activity was investigated. The samples were grown at Ar pressures between 10 and 70 Pa and at different laser pulse numbers. Other deposition parameters such as laser fluence, target to substrate distance and substrate temperature were kept fixed at 2.0 J/cm2, 35 mm and 297 K. Film morphologies were investigated by scanning and transmission electron microscopies (SEM, TEM). Surface features range from isolated nearly spherical nanoparticles to larger islands with smoothed edges. Cluster growth is favored by plume confinement induced by background gas. After landing on the substrate clusters start to aggregate giving rise to larger structures as long as the deposition goes on. Such a path of film growth allows controlling the surface morphology as a function of laser pulse number and Ar pressure. These two easy-to-manage process parameters control the number density and the average size of the as-deposited nanoparticles. We investigated the influence of substrate morphologies on their surface enhanced Raman scattering properties. Raman measurements were performed after soaking the samples in rhodamine 6G aqueous solutions over the concentration range between 1.0 × 10−4 and 5.0 × 10−8 M. The sensitivity of the film SERS activity on the surface features is put into evidence.  相似文献

Thermal characteristics of tightly-contacted copper--gold double-layer thin film target under ablation of femtosecond laser pulses are investigated by using a two-temperature theoretical model. Numerical simulation shows that electron heat flux varies significantly on the boundary of copper--gold film with different maximal electron temperature of 1.15×103 K at 5 ps after ablating laser pulse in gold and copper films, which can reach a balance around 12.6 ps and 8.2 ps for a single and double pulse ablation, respectively, and in the meantime, the lattice temperature difference crossing the gold--copper interface is only about 0.04×103 K at the same time scale. It is also found that electron--lattice heat relaxation time increases linearly with laser fluence in both single and double pulse ablation, and a sudden change of the relaxation time appears after the laser energy density exceeds the ablation threshold.  相似文献

Carbon nitride films were deposited using ablation of graphite target by second harmonic radiation of Nd:YAG laser in nitrogen atmosphere. To produce high hardness films, the deposited particles should have sufficient kinetic energy to provide their efficient diffusion on a substrate surface for formation of crystal structure. However, a shock wave is arisen in ambient gas as a consequence of laser plasma explosive formation. This shock wave reflected from the substrate interacts with plume particles produced by the first laser pulse and decreases their kinetic energy. This results in decrease of film crystallinity. To improve film quality, two successive laser pulses was proposed to be used. At adjusting time delay, the particles induced by the second pulse wilt serve as a piston, which will push forward both stopped particles ablated by the first pulse and arisen from chemical reactions in ambient gas. An X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of deposited films has shown an increase of content of sp 3 carbon atoms corresponding to crystalline phase, if double-pulse configuration is employed. The luminescence of excited C2 and CN molecules in laser plume at different distances from the target was studied to optimize the delay between laser pulses.  相似文献

Oriented crystalline Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (x=0.53) (PZT) thin films were deposited on metallized glass substrates by pulsed laser deposition (1060-nm wavelength Nd:YAG laser light, 10-ns pulse duration, 10-Hz repetition rate, 0.35-J/pulse and 25-J/cm2 laser fluence), from a commercial target at substrate temperatures in the range 380-400 °C. Thin films of 1-3 7m were grown on Au(111)/ Pt/NiCr/glass substrates with a rate of about 1 Å/pulse on an area of 1 cm2. The deposited PZT films with perovskite structure were oriented along the (111) direction, as was revealed from X-ray diffraction spectra. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was performed on different PZT films so that their vibrational modes could be determined. Piezoelectric d33 coefficients up to 30 pC/N were obtained on as-deposited films. Ferroelectric hysteresis loops at 100 Hz revealed a remanent polarization of 20 7C/cm2 and a coercive field of 100 kV/cm.  相似文献

Thin aluminum film homogeneously heated by intense IR femtosecond laser pulses exhibits on the excitation timescale consequent fluence-dependent rise and drop of the IR-pump self-reflectivity, followed by its final saturation at higher fluences F > 0.3 J/cm2. This prompt optical dynamics correlates with the initial monotonic increase in the accompanying laser-induced electron emission, which is succeeded by its non-linear (three-photon) increase for F > 0.3 J/cm2. The underlying electronic dynamics is related to the initial saturation of IR resonant interband transitions in this material, followed by its strong instantaneous electronic heating via intraband transitions during the pump pulse resulting in thermionic emission. Above the threshold fluence of 0.3 J/cm2, the surface electronic heating is balanced during the pump pulse by simultaneous cooling via intense plasma removal (prompt ablation). The relationship between the deposited volume energy density in the film and its prompt electronic temperature derived from the self-reflection measurements using a Drude model, demonstrates a kind of electron “liquid–vapor” phase transition, driven by strong cubic optical non-linearity of the photo-excited aluminum.  相似文献

PbTe thin films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition from a Nd:YAG laser (532 nm). The films were deposited on glass substrates. The influence of deposition temperature (80-160 °C), fluence (5-13 J/cm2) and nominal composition of the target on the chemical composition of the films was studied. It was found that the tellurium content of the film is strongly dependent on both the laser fluence and the deposition temperature. Highly textured stoichiometric films can be obtained with suitable conditions.  相似文献

For the development of organic electronics on flexible substrates, we study the potentialities of direct laser patterning of conductive films deposited on plastic foils. The materials under study are silver and platinum films (100-nm thick) deposited on Kapton® substrates. The experiments are done using a laser source operating at 1030 nm, 500 fs, under different irradiation conditions: single and multiple pulses at various frequencies. The laser ablation thresholds are measured and the ablation morphologies are analyzed with scanning electron microscopy. The results of these investigations show that photomechanical effects lead to delamination of the film and that depending of the irradiation conditions, incubation or heat accumulation effects can occur. The experimental results are compared to simulations based on the two-temperature model. Particularly we study the heat accumulation effects that can occur in the case of multiple pulses and that are detrimental for plastic substrates.  相似文献

The ablation rate when drilling fine holes having large aspect ratios in silicon substrates with femtosecond laser pulses was estimated from mechanically ground cross sections of the ablated holes. The ablation rate shows a dramatic change at the depth at which the laser pulse reaches a certain fluence, which is nearly constant when the initial laser fluence was varied from 14.5 to 59.4 J/cm2. The ablation rate, threshold fluence, in three fluence domains, and the transition fluences at which the ablation rate shows a dramatic change, were derived. However, when a pulse energy of 200 μJ was used a much greater ablation rate was obtained, suggesting that another fluence domain for larger ablation rates exists. The experimentally obtained hole depths as a function of shot numbers were reproduced by a theoretical model, which incorporates laser pulse attenuation in the holes that is the same as that in waveguides for some attenuation coefficient and ablation rates for three fluence domains. We have analyzed the ablation depth yield of fused silica irradiated with shaped pulse trains with a separation of 500 fs and increasing or decreasing intensity envelopes. This temporal separation value is extracted from previous studies on ablation dynamics upon irradiation with transform-limited 100 fs laser pulses. The use of decreasing intensity pulse trains leads to a strong increase of the induced ablation depth when compared to the behavior, at the same pulse fluence, of intensity increasing pulse trains. In addition, we have studied the material response under stretched (500 fs, FWHM) and transform-limited (100 fs, FWHM) pulses, for which avalanche or multiphoton ionization respectively dominates the carrier generation process. The comparison of the corresponding evolution of the ablated depth vs. fluence suggests that the use of pulse trains with decreasing intensity at high fluences should lead to enhanced single exposure ablation depths, beyond the limits corresponding to MPI- or AI-alone dominated processes.  相似文献
