对铷原子(87Rb)蒸汽中的法拉第旋转、光学偏振自旋转以及二者的叠加旋转效应进行了理论和实验研究.对三种情况下旋转现象建立了简单而有效的理论模型. 实验中把铷原子泡置于自行设计的磁屏蔽腔内, 以屏蔽地磁场的影响.实验选择87Rb F=2→F'=3能级D2跃迁线并采用零多普勒光谱 实验结构消除多普勒展宽对实验光谱的影响. 实验中分别观测到了三种旋转现象,实验结果与理论模拟结果非常符合.  相似文献

We observed squeezed vacuum light at 795 nm in (87)Rb vapor via resonant polarization self-rotation and report noise sidebands suppression of approximately 1 dB below shot-noise level spanning from 30 kHz to 1.2 MHz frequencies. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of submegahertz quadrature vacuum squeezing in atomic systems. The spectral range of observed squeezing matches well typical bandwidths of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) resonances, making this simple technique for generation of optical fields with nonclassical statistics at atomic transitions wavelengths attractive for EIT-based quantum information protocols applications.  相似文献

We present a theoretical and experimental study of self-rotation of incident elliptically polarized light on a rubidium atomic vapor. We construct density matrix equations, which are then solved numerically, and further averaged over atomic transit times and a Maxwell-Boltzmann velocity distribution. We calculate the rotation angle as a function of detuning for various laser intensities and polarizations. We compare the calculated results with experimental results and find good agreement between them.  相似文献

We review recent investigations of the femtosecond non-linear optical response of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in the quantum Hall effect regime. We find that the time and frequency profile of the four-wave-mixing non-linear optical spectrum is strongly influenced by Coulomb correlations between the photoexcited electron-hole pairs and the 2DEG collective excitations. We discuss experimental and theoretical results showing non-Markovian memory effects in the polarization dephasing, and an optically induced time-dependent coupling between the two lowest Landau level magnetoexcitons.  相似文献

The inverse Faraday effect, in which a magnetization is induced in a solution through which is passed a polarized light beam of arbitrary ellipticity, is discussed on the basis of the S-matrix formulation of optical birefringence. It is shown that the Faraday effect and the inverse Faraday effect are topologically identical problems of diagrammatic perturbation theory and so it follows automatically that the magnetization should be proportional to the Verdet constant. The optical Faraday effect is the circular birefringence induced by an intense circularly polarized beam of light propagated colinearly with the weak measuring beam: the electric vector of the circularly polarized beam interacts with the molecule in a way that resembles the interaction of a static magnetic field. The interrelations of these two effects and the normal Faraday effect the self-rotation of the polarization ellipse of an intense beam are discussed.  相似文献

利用原子自旋效应能够实现超高灵敏度的惯性和磁场测量。一类操控原子自旋处于无自旋交换弛豫态的器件可以进行物理参数测量。碱金属气室为该类器件的敏感表头。碱金属原子密度与原子极化率是碱金属气室的重要参数,对研究原子自旋处于无自旋交换弛豫态有着重要的作用。光的偏振效应在量子计算和原子物理研究中发挥了重要作用。利用光的偏振效应能够实现对碱金属原子密度与原子极化率的检测。提出一种基于光偏振旋转效应的碱金属原子极化率测量方法。首先对碱金属气室加恒定磁场,利用激光作为检测光,根据光偏振旋转原理,检测通过气室的偏振光的法拉第旋转角,得到碱金属气室原子密度。然后将碱金属原子抽运,利用激光作为检测光,检测通过气室的偏振光的偏转角,得到碱金属原子极化率。该方法在测量原子极化率的过程中也测量了碱金属原子密度,实现利用一套系统测量两个重要参数,具有快速测量和高灵敏度等特点,简化了实验设备及过程。对两种偏转角进行仿真分析,得到该方法实验时检测激光波长变化对偏转角的影响,根据仿真图得到检测激光波长的可取范围,验证了该方法的可行性。最后分析激光器波长波动与磁场波动对其测量精度的影响,提出实验对激光器与磁场的要求。  相似文献

Nonlinear optical activity due to spatial dispersion is observed in a colloidal solution of silver. It is shown experimentally that the effect is substantially enhanced (by a factor of ∼102) when the silver particles aggregate into fractal clusters. The self-rotation angle of the plane of polarization is 2 mrad at an intensity of 2 MW/cm2 for λ=0.532 μm and a pulse duration of 11 ns. A method of separating the contributions of the local and nonlocal effects to the rotation of the plane of polarization is proposed and implemented. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. A retrospective review of both theoretical and experimental works on photon echo in gases in the presence of longitudinal magnetic fields is presented from the viewpoint of new possibilities opened by this research for polarization echo spectroscopy of gases. The main attention is given to the physical scenario of the magnetic field’s effect on the properties of the photon echo. New results on the photon echo and stimulated photon echo in ytterbium vapor at the 1 ? 0 transition in the presence of the longitudinal magnetic field whose strength ranges from weak to strong are presented. Possible applications of the magnetic field effects for optical data storage and processing are analyzed.  相似文献

We report strong experimental evidence of the optical anisotropy in a CdTe-based microcavity: the polarization of light is pinned to one of the crystallographic axes independently of the polarization of the excitation. The polarization degree depends strongly on the excitation power, reaching almost 100% in the stimulated regime. The relaxation time of the polarization is about 1 ns. We argue that all of this is an effect of a splitting of the polariton doublet at k=0. We consider different sources for the splitting and conclude that the most likely one is optical birefringence in the mirrors and/or the cavity.  相似文献

基于成熟的光纤激光器、光纤放大器及高效激光频率转换技术,我们在实验中研制了一套瓦级输出的窄线宽连续波单频可调谐318.6 nm紫外激光系统,并在室温铯原子气室中实现了6S_(1/2)—nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)单光子跃迁里德伯激发.借助由铯原子6S_(1/2)(F=4)基态、6P_(3/2)(F′=5)激发态和nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)里德伯态构成的V型三能级系统,通过频率锁定于铯原子6S_(1/2)(F=4)—6P_(3/2)(F′=5)超精细跃迁的852.3 nm探测光束的吸收减弱信号获得了里德伯态的信息,并利用高精度波长计测量了铯原子nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)里德伯态的量子亏损值.经过与理论计算值的变化趋势进行对比,我们认为由于原子气室的里德伯屏蔽效应并不能完全屏蔽外部直流电场,铯原子气室内存在残余的直流电场,影响了对里德伯态的量子亏损值的实验测量.利用残余直流电场的Stark效应理论模型及其与有效主量子数n*的依赖关系,对铯原子里德伯态的量子亏损实验测量值进行了修正.修正后的铯原子nP_(3/2)(n=70—94)态量子亏损测量值为3.5591±0.0007,与理论计算值相吻合.  相似文献

In this article, we present the concept of an optical scalar magnetometer based on the spectroscopy of hot alkali vapors confined in nanometric-thick cells. We present an appropriate theoretical model to describe the interaction of linearly and circularly polarized light with atomic alkali vapors confined in extremely thin cells where a longitudinal magnetic field is applied. This model can be used to perform consecutive fittings of experimental spectra recorded by derivative selective reflection method, in order to measure the value of magnetic field. We illustrate the model with various calculated spectra for natural Rb vapor, while equivalent results hold for other alkalis (Na, K, Cs). We analyze the feasibility of the concept for different cases depending on light polarization and cell thickness, and discuss possible limitations of the technique.  相似文献

通过对硅酸镓镧(LGS)晶体旋光性与电光效应的交互作用的理论研究,推导出晶体旋光性和电光效应共同作用下的光强表示式I=1-4B2(Asin 2ω-Ccos 2ω)2。利用此表示式设计计算了旋光晶体LGS尺寸为8 mm×8 mm×25 mm电光Q开关在1064 nm波长使用时的开关电压和偏振角分别为4995 V和27.3°。将理论研究得到的结论应用于LGS晶体电光调Q的Nd∶YAG晶体激光器的实验研究中,实验结果与理论计算结果基本一致。得到输出能量为361 mJ,脉冲宽度为7.8 ns的脉冲激光输出。  相似文献

We present a theoretical analysis and an experimental study of the impacts of external optical feedback on dualfrequency fiber lasers. The external optical feedback can effectively suppress the phase noise of the beat notes of dual-frequency fiber lasers, provided some requirements are satisfied. The polarization of the optical feedback is important for the fiber laser's stability, and it can also tune the beat note frequency. A side effect of external optical feedback, as demonstrated in the experiments, is lowering the sensitivity of the dual-frequency fiber laserbased sensors, although such degradation is not obvious.  相似文献

We report on intracavity phase conjugation via resonant degenerate 4-wave mixing in atomic sodium vapor with the use of transverse optical Zeeman pumping as a versatile nonlinear mechanism. Under appropriate conditions the phase conjugate wave is found to display bistability, polarization switching and magnetically-induced selfoscillations. Our measurements are shown to be in fair agreement with theoretical predictions based on a simple analytic treatment for a homogeneously broadened coupled 4-level system.  相似文献

Strong electric-field enhancements at the apex of a tungsten tip illuminated by an external light source were recently predicted theoretically. We present an experimental study of the dependence of this effect on the polarization angle of the incident light. It is shown that the intensity of the light scattered by the tungsten tip of an apertureless scanning near-field optical microscope is 2 orders of magnitude higher when the incident light is p polarized than when it is s polarized. This experimental result is in good agreement with theoretical predictions and provides an easy way to test the quality of the tips.  相似文献

仿真并分析了基于半导体光放大器全光偏振调制的双信道光传输系统模型.该系统分别利用两级半导体光放大器的交叉偏振调制效应(XPolM),将两路独立的强度调制的抽运光变换到一路探测光的两个正交的偏振态上,实现双通道偏振复用的全光数据传输.首先对单个半导体光放大器的动力学过程进行了理论分析,数值计算了具有不同抽运光功率的半导体光放大器对探测光偏振态的影响,进而对双半导体光放大器偏振复用系统的调制/解调原理进行了分析,模拟仿真了双半导体光放大器的双通路偏振复用的调制及解调过程,仿真结果与实验结果相符.  相似文献

The phenomena in optical pattern formation are reviewed using a single mirror feedback experiment as an example. The nonlinear medium is sodium metal vapor. We discuss the mechanism responsible for the spontaneous formation of spatial structures and the selection between simple periodic patterns as hexagons and squares. Introducing a polarization changing element in the feedback loop, quasiperiodic patterns with a twelve-fold rotational symmetry are obtained and their properties are studied by filtering methods in Fourier space. Finally, we discuss the formation of localized states as spatial solitons due to a self-induced lensing effect. Their interaction is studied and the formation of clusters provides a link between localized states and extended patterns. Genuine optical features, such as the polarization degrees of freedom, the experimental accessibility of the Fourier space, and the possibility to control the optical susceptibility of atomic vapors by means of an external magnetic field, provide very powerful tools for investigating the principles of pattern formation. 偏振诱导信号衰落现象的抑制是干涉型光纤传感系统的关键技术之一. 针对法拉第旋镜(FRM)法抑制偏振诱导信号衰落技术的残留偏振相位噪声问题进行了深入的理论和实验研究. 运用琼斯矩阵法建立了基于法拉第旋镜的干涉型光纤传感系统偏振相位噪声的理论模型; 分析了影响系统偏振相位噪声的主要原因: 法拉第旋镜的旋光角度偏差、入射光偏振态调制度、干涉仪两臂光纤双折射; 提出了相应的抑制偏振相位噪声的方法. 详细仿真分析了入射光偏振态调制度对干涉型光纤传感系统偏振相位噪声的影响, 仿真分析得出若法拉第旋镜旋光角度偏差为最大工艺制造误差1°, 当入射光偏振态调制度为1.84 rad时, 系统可能出现的最大偏振相位噪声为0.0815 rad. 最后, 搭建了基于M-Z型偏振态调制器的偏振相位噪声测试系统, 测试了在传输光纤受到外界偏振扰动的情况下, 干涉传感系统存在的偏振相位噪声, 实验测试结果与理论分析结果基本一致, 有力地证明了该偏振相位噪声理论分析模型的正确性.  相似文献

We report on a polarization-sensitive optical gain in a blue-emitting Si/SiO(2) nanocrystalline system having a high degree of emission polarization memory. This system can show a positive optical gain or optical loss depending on the polarization state of the pump and emitted light. Under optical gain conditions, the degree of polarization of the amplified spontaneous emission increases with the pumping fluence. This effect has been attributed to an increase in the stimulated emission efficiency occurring for the linearly polarized emission component characterized by high photon occupation numbers (stimulating photon flux). This finding is independently supported by other experimental observations. The occurrence of polarization dependent stimulated emission strongly indicates the relevance of morphological effects in light emission from ultrasmall elongated silicon nanostructures.  相似文献
