The spectral dependences of the optical characteristics governing radiation transfer in scattering media are analyzed within the wavelength range of 0.4–14 μm for three types of aerosols. The wavelength ranges where approximate methods of calculation of frequency-contrast characteristics are applicable are established; the corresponding limitting masses of aerosol particles in a layer per unit of surface area are determined for which approximate methods provide acceptable accuracy. A method for determining optical density at the center of an atomic absorption line contour from the spacing between the components of the two-frequency generation spectrum of a laser with a phase-polarization selector is suggested. It is shown that the method makes it possible to measure the largest possible optical densities, but it is not suitable for measuring optical densities smaller than unity. Optical densities at the center of the D-lines of sodium are measured experimentally. A good agreement between experimental and predicted data is obtained. The possibility of the Anderson transition in an ensemble of closely packed monodisperse nanocrystals is mathematically substantiated. Results of a statistical analysis of the dependence of the number of delocalized electronic states on the nanocrystal concentration are reported. Conclusions are drawn about the influence of the Anderson transition on the optical spectra of the given system. With use of electron energy loss spectra for vapors of anthracene, perylene, 1,4[di(2,5-phenyloxazolyl)] benzene, and paratherphenyl the energy yields of fluorescence are calculated for electron collision. Results of an experimental study of optical feedback as a method to suppress quantum-noise-induced macroscopic fluctuations in the emission of stimulated RS are reported. Statistic changes in the energy of Stokes pulses in the linear mode of scattering and those in the amplitudes of solition-like pulses in the nonlinear mode are shown. Using the method of phase-sensitive detection, we investigated the photoconductivity spectra of polycrystalline p-CuInSe2 films obtained in vacuum by the method of pulsed laser vaporization of initial single crystals. We show that, in contrast to single crystals, films are characterized by monopolar photoconductivity in the extrinsic and intrinsic regions of optical absorption and by a linear mechanism of recombination of nonequilibrium charge carriers at the intensities of illumination 0–100 mW/cm2 in the temperature range 80–300 K. Characteristics of nonlinear optical phenomena in reflection of light at the interface with photorfractive crystals having photovoltaic nonlinearity are studied. it is shown that under total reflection, hysteretic behavior of the reflection coefficient is possible as a function of the incident radiation intensity or the angle of incidence. It is important that previously required threshold intensities are rather low (≤1 W/cm2) in comparison with the known case of reflection from media with Kerr nonlinearity. The present results are of doubtless interest in view of the development of possible devices for controlling laser radiation. Using transmission coefficients of anisotropic polyethyleneterphthalate films measured in the range of 700–760 cm−1 the optical functions n(v) and χ(v) are calculated in the film plane and perpendicular to its surface. Its shown that the asymmetric broadenings and shift of the maximum of the absorption band at 727 cm−1 in the case of oblique incidence of p-polarized radiation are due to the influence of optical anisotropy and dispersion. It was shown in the dipole approximation of optical rotation that in the general case only in orientationally anisotropic vapors is the rotational force dependent on the intramolecular orientation of both the electric and magnetic dipole moments. Expressions relating the optical rotational force to the intramolecular orientation of these moments, the orientational distribution in an anisotropic ensemble, and the configuration of a measurement have been obtained. Calculated dependences of the rotational force on the intramolecular orientation of the magnetic moment at a fixed electric moment and “rotational force excitation spectra” obtained for different types of rigid asymmetric top molecules and rotational contours are presented. It is proposed to measure the intramolecular orientation of the electric and magnetic dipole moments with the use of the rotational force normalized to that detected in the case of observation at a “magic” angle to the direction of the exciting light electric vector. It has been found that the F-band of optical absorption which is observed in ψ-irradiated NaF crystals consists of three overlapping bands. The band at 345 nm of width 40 nm is independent of the impurity composition of the crystals; it disappears upon exposure to radiation at 345 nm and appears again upon annealing at 460±15 K for 15 min. This band is correlatable in intensity with the superfine structure of an EPR spectrum. The width (65–110 nm) and the spectral position (355–375 nm) of the second band depend on the impurity composition of the crystal. The band of width 90–110 nm at 320–325 nm disappears upon annealing and appears after exposure to light simultaneously with the disappearance of an EPR signal. It is established that the band at 345 nm is caused by quasimolecules based on fluorine atoms, that at 355–375 nm is triggered by F-centers with a different impurity composition near the haloid vacancy, and the band at 320–325 nm owes its appearance to F-centers in a negatively charged state (F′). Absorption spectra and dispersion of optical rotation (DOR) are measured for monomers of 6,γ- and,7,γ-dimethyl ethers of chlorin e6 (Ch-6,γ-DME and Ch-7,γ-DME) in 96% ethanol and for associates of them that are polymers and colloidal particles. The optical activity of Ch-6,γ-DME monomers is higher than that of Ch-7,γ-DME monomers, which is linked with more pronounced distortion of the molecular macrocycle for Ch-6,γ-DME in the γ-C6 local region. The structural and energy parameters of dimeric unit cells of Ch-6,γ-DME and Ch-7,γ-DME polymers are discussed from the standpoint of the Davydov-Tinoko exciton theories. We carried out measurements of the spectral distribution of wideband dye laser generation intensity within the limits and in the vicinity of an absorption line with its simultaneous recording at the frequencies of the fundamental and second harmonics of laser radiation. In the laser cavity we placed optical cuvettes with active and absorbing media, as well as selecting and nonlinear-optical elements. We show that at double frequencies the contrast of the narrow-band hole in the multimode laser generation spectrum increases. The gain in the concentration sensitivity of measurements depends in this case on the value of the absorption coefficient being determined. Regression relations between the first main component, slope of the SBC curve towards the wavelength axis, and the degree of mineralization of peat soils are established from experimental data. Errors in determination of peat soil productivity are estimated using different spectral indices.
