Four-wave mixing (FWM) is a dominant nonlinear effect present in optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks employing dispersion-shifted fiber. The method of placing the carrier at unequally spaced frequencies to reduce the FWM effect in these networks is known. A modification to this method with periodic unequally spaced channel allocation repeated base unit structures has been suggested that leads to a much better bandwidth utilization with lesser number of FWM components. A figure of merit, defined as the ratio of decrease in number of FWM components generated to increase in bandwidth, has been used as a metric of performance.  相似文献

A dual-excited full-wavelength piezoceramic ultrasonic transducer as a cascade of two half-wavelength sandwich piezoceramic transducers is studied.The relevant parameters' expressions of the figure of merit N for the transducer are derived,and the effects of the structure and material parameters of the transducer on its characteristics are further analyzed by numerical calculation.The results show that when the two piezoceramic stacks are respectively located at the displacement nodes of their own half-wavelength transducers,or the two piezoceramic stacks have the same number of pieces in the case of a certain number of piezoceramic pieces,the figure of merit of the transducer can reach a maximum.With increasing of the number of piezoceramic pieces in a fairly large range,the figure of merit of the transducer slightly decreases,but the force factor of the transducer increases rapidly.The metal materials of the transducer have little effect on its figure of merit.Thus it can be seen that the dual-excited full-wavelength transducer can effectively increase the volumes of the piezoceramic stacks in the case of that the transducer's comprehensive performance has only a little bit of degradation,so it's power capacity and load capability can be dramatically improved,which means the transducer is more suitable for high power and heavy load applications.  相似文献

A 2× 2 electro-optic switch is experimentally demonstrated using the optical structure of a Mach--Zehnder interferometer (MZI) based on a submicron rib waveguide and the electrical structure of a PIN diode on silicon-on-insulator (SOI). The switch behaviour is achieved through the plasma dispersion effect of silicon. The device has a modulation arm of 1~mm in length and cross-section of 400~nm× 340~nm. The measurement results show that the switch has a VπLπ figure of merit of 0.145~V\cdot cm and the extinction ratios of two output ports and cross talk are 40~dB, 28~dB and -28~dB, respectively. A 3~dB modulation bandwidth of 90~MHz and a switch time of 6.8~ns for the rise edge and 2.7~ns for the fall edge are also demonstrated.  相似文献

The thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) in narrow conduction bands of different material dimensionalities is investigated for different carrier scattering models. When the bandwidth is zero, the transport distribution function (TDF) is finite, not infinite as previously speculated by Mahan and Sofo [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 93, 7436 (1996)], even though the carrier density of states goes to infinity. Such a finite TDF results in a zero electrical conductivity and thus a zero ZT. We point out that the optimal ZT cannot be found in an extremely narrow conduction band. The existence of an optimal bandwidth for a maximal ZT depends strongly on the scattering models and the dimensionality of the material. A nonzero optimal bandwidth for maximizing ZT also depends on the lattice thermal conductivity. A larger maximum ZT can be obtained for materials with a smaller lattice thermal conductivity.  相似文献

We investigate the electromagnetic properties of stacked metamaterial layers composed of modified fishnet structures at around 40?GHz. The designed planar multilayer exhibits theoretically high transmission of ?0.5?dB, low reflection, and a large negative index bandwidth with a record figure of merit higher than 36 at 38.5?GHz. Good agreement between simulation and measurement results is observed. We also verify experimentally the resolution of the negative index metamaterial stack and the focusing ability of the plano-concave lens configuration.  相似文献

本文主要结果有三:第一,推导出基波激励和次谐波激励参量放大器的优值、功率增益、和通带等主要特性,并就这些特性对基波激励源的和次谐波激励源的参量放大器进行比较;第二,通过半导体二极管非线性电容的谐波分量的分析,在激励电压、偏压和放大器的特性间得出定量关系,并且对给定放大器特性求出激励源幅度和频率的稳定要求;第三,推导出放大器的有效噪声,并给出最低有效噪声的设计条件。以上特性的探讨和二极管损耗、信号迴路和镜象迴路通带比、匹配等因子结合在一起进行,使所得结果更具有实际意义。最后举出一数字例子,说明应用本文结果来设计参量放大器的一种可能步骤。 关键词:  相似文献

We report the observation of imaging beyond the diffraction limit due to bound surface states in negative refraction photonic crystals. We achieve an effective negative index figure of merit [-Re(n)/Im(n)] of at least 380, approximately 125x improvement over recent efforts in the near-infrared range, with a 0.4 THz bandwidth. Supported by numerical and theoretical analyses, the observed near-field resolution is 0.47lambda, clearly smaller than the diffraction limit of 0.61lambda. Importantly, we show this subdiffraction imaging is due to the resonant excitation of surface slab modes.  相似文献

A novel semi-analytical model for cross-gain modulation (XGM) in quantum dot vertical-cavity semiconductor optical amplifier has been derived. The derived model, which is simple, requires small computational time compared with numerical simulation and can efficiently be used to investigate the optical bistable/stable characteristics of the device. Large XGM bandwidth can also be obtained when the device operates in the bistable region and in the stable region close to the bistable edge. A figure of merit is proposed to optimize the complicated tradeoff between the XGM bandwidth, efficiency, applied current and the input pump to probe ratio. We find that optimum characteristics can be obtained in our investigated device when the probe wavelength is detuned by 9 Å above the resonant wavelength and when a specific CW probe density is applied to the input of the device.  相似文献

We theoretically study the thermoelectric transport properties through a triple quantum dots (QDs) device with the central QD coupled to a ferromagnetic lead, a superconducting one, and two side QDs with spin-dependent interdot tunneling coupling. The thermoelectric coefficients are calculated in the linear response regime by means of nonequilibrium Green's function method. The thermopower is determined by the single-electron tunneling processes at the edge of superconducting gap. Near the outside of the gap edge the thermopower is enhanced while thermal conductance is suppressed, as a result, the charge figure of merit can be greatly improved as the gap appropriately increases. In the same way, charge figure of merit also can be greatly improved near the outside of the gap edge by adjusting interdot tunneling coupling and asymmetry coupling of the side QDs to central QD. Moreover, the appropriate increase of the interdot tunneling splitting and spin polarization of ferromagnetic lead not only can improve charge thermopower and charge figure of merit, but also can enhance spin thermopower and spin figure of merit. Especially, the interdot tunneling splitting scheme provides a method of controlling charge (spin) figure merit by external magnetic field.  相似文献

The electrical conductance, the thermal conductance, the thermopower and the thermoelectrical figure of merit are analyzed through a double quantum dot system weakly coupled to metal electrodes, by means of density matrix approach. The effects of interdot tunneling, intra- and interdot Coulomb repulsions on the figure of merit are examined. Results show that increase of interdot tunneling gives rise to a reduction in figure of merit. On the other hand, increase of Coulomb repulsion results in enhancement of figure of merit because of reduce of bipolar effect.  相似文献

为了利用在声学领域极具应用前景的双锥型五模式超材料进行隔声降噪,提出一种双锥宽直径不全同型五模式超材料.利用有限元方法分析了其声子能带结构、各波模相速度、品质因数随结构与材料参数的变化关系,在实用性和稳定性上与窄直径不同型五模式超材料作了比较.宽直径不全同型五模式超材料在保持原始五模式结构单模传输能带的前提下,还产生了更低频、宽带的三维完全带隙,且结构更稳定,重量更轻。双锥型五模式超材料在特定宽直径不同时具有三维完全带隙,品质因数主要由结构参数决定,各材料参数只是不同程度地影响带隙的绝对宽度和位置.研究结果表明双锥宽直径不全同型五模式超材料有望用于带隙调控和隔声。   相似文献

A magnetic field tunable, broadband, low-loss, negative refractive index metamaterial is fabricated using yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and a periodic array of copper wires. The tunability is demonstrated from 18 to 23 GHz under an applied magnetic field with a figure of merit of 4.2 GHz/kOe. The tuning bandwidth is measured to be 5 GHz compared to 0.9 GHz for fixed field. We measure a minimum insertion loss of 4 dB (or 5.7 dB/cm) at 22.3 GHz. The measured negative refractive index bandwidth is 0.9 GHz compared to 0.5 GHz calculated by the transfer function matrix theory and 1 GHz calculated by finite element simulation.  相似文献

基于表面等离子激元理论与金属-介质-金属波导结构提出一个由开口方环共振空腔、挡板及MIM波导组成的波导结构,并使用有限元方法系统地研究了该结构的透射特性.仿真计算结果表明:该结构可以产生法诺共振现象,其共振波长可以通过改变开口方环空腔的长度及开口大小进行调节,该结构敏感度可达1 600nm/RIU,品质因数为1.31×10~5.此外,通过调整方环共振空腔上开口的位置,在波导中产生了双重法诺共振现象,其敏感度可达1 700nm/RIU,品质因数为8.3×10~4.该结构有望在光学集成回路,尤其是纳米生物传感器方面得到比较广泛的应用.  相似文献

A comprehensive study on the output power, the modulation response, and the relative intensity noise (RIN) behavior of an optically injection‐locked mid‐infrared quantum‐cascade laser reveals that the modulation bandwidth and the output power are enhanced in the stable locking range, while the RIN of the slave laser is a superposition of the master and slave noise sources. Since the RIN level of the master laser can even take the lead, a design procedure is introduced to improve the main characteristics of a free‐running laser, including the RIN, the photon lifetime, the modulation bandwidth, and the bias current, using facet reflectivity tailoring. A figure of merit is defined and the RIN reduction of about 20 dB Hz?1 is obtained for very low injection powers compared with the injection‐locked system before the design of master laser.  相似文献

Transmission and negative refractive index (NRI) of metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) sandwiched metamaterial perfo- rated with four kinds of shapes of holes are numerically studied. Results indicate that positions of all transmission peaks of these kinds of holes are sensitive to the shape of the hole. Under the same conditions, the circular hole can obtain the maximum NRI and the rectangular hole can obtain the maximum frequency bandwidth of NRI. Moreover, the figure of merit (FOM) of the circular hole is the maximum too. As a result, we can obtain a higher NRI and FOM metamaterial by drilling circular hole arrays on MDM metamaterial.  相似文献

The optical absorber with Fano response is valuable for various applications such as solar cells or optical sensors. In this paper, we have modeled an optical plasmonic metamaterial absorber which contains a broken cross as an elementary cell along with four rectangular loads to improve the absorbance and achieve a Fano response within a wide bandwidth at 190–245 THz (25%). The bandwidth of the proposed structure is more than conventional metamaterial absorbers. The prototype absorber has a remarkable enhancement in the electric field in comparison with the simple cross model and the reflection value has reduced to ??47 dB. The parametric studies show how the gap capacitance controls the bandwidth, resonance frequency and the reflection value of the absorber, therefore we can consider this technique as a way to enhance the metamaterial absorber’s bandwidth. The proposed structure can be used as an optical refractive index sensor while the Fano line-shape provides a higher figure of merit (FOM) compared with many others. For this structure, the FOM has obtained as 10,660. The Finite Integration Technique with Perfect Boundary Approximation used for the simulation.  相似文献

Thermoelectric effects through a serial double quantum dot system weakly coupled to ferromagnetic leads are analyzed. Formal expressions of electrical conductance, thermal conductance, and thermal coefficient are obtained by means of Hubbard operators. The results show that although the thermopower is independent of the polarization of the leads, the figure of merit is reduced by an increase of polarization. The influences of temperature and interdot tunneling on the figure of merit are also investigated, and it is observed that increase of the interdot tunneling strength results in reduction of the figure of merit. The effect of temperature on the thermal conductance is also analyzed.  相似文献

Dispersion compensation with higher order mode is emerging as a promising technique that can provide full dispersion and dispersion slope compensation for a long distance high bit rate system. Long period grating-based LP01LP02 mode converters are designed in the wavelength region of 1550 nm for this purpose. The simulated mode converters have large bandwidth with conversion efficiencies of over 99% and the estimated figure of merit is 309 ps/(nm dB). The negative dispersion of –124 ps/(nm km) is obtained over a bandwidth (@20 dB) of 58 nm with relative dispersion slope of 0.008/nm.  相似文献

提出由T型空腔和挡板组成的两种金属-电介质-金属(MIM)波导结构,分别为:正T型空腔结构和倒T型空腔结构,并应用有限元法系统地研究了该结构的透射特性.对于正T型空腔结构,仿真结果出现了双重法诺共振现象,并且共振波长可以通过改变T型空腔长度和高度进行调节.该结构有助于设计成敏感度达到1 620nm/RIU、品质因数为5.4×10~4的纳米传感器.对于倒置T型空腔,在波导中产生了多重法诺共振现象,其敏感度可达1 560nm/RIU,品质因数为9.37×104.该结构有望在光学集成回路,特别是纳米传感器、光束分路器方面具有广泛应用.  相似文献

In G.653 compliant fiber, four-wave mixing (FWM) is a dominant non-linear effect. Performance of optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network based on G.653 fiber is affected by the generated FWM components. The paper aims to discuss the methods used to reduce the number of FWM components and make efficient utilization of bandwidth. We have earlier proposed two methods (a) modified periodically unequally spaced channel allocation (modified PUSCA) and (b) paired PUSCA. In this paper, we have compared both the methods by considering the ratio of increase in weighted average signal to FWM noise ratio to increase in bandwidth as a figure of merit. Further, the performance of paired PUSCA scheme on G.653 fiber has been compared with equally spaced channel allocation (ESCA) scheme on G.652 fiber in which FWM is not a dominant non-linear effect. We demonstrate that paired PUSCA on G.653 fiber performs better than ESCA on G.652 fiber when the number of channels is less than 30.  相似文献
