The classical, thermally driven transition from ferrimagnets to superparamagnets in Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be converted into another quantum phase by a transverse microwave magnetic field or by a strong internal anisotropic field. These fields, perpendicular to the Ising axis, can destroy the magnetic long-range order to quantum paramagnets as the fields exceed some critical values. We have exploited the spin resonance spectrometer to determine the dynamic spin susceptibility and the critical exponent γ, which is a power-law dependent spanning of the quantum critical point. Quantum phase transition observed at low temperatures for small magnetite nanoparticles induced by strong surface anisotropic field illustrates the fascinating interplay between thermal and quantum fluctuations in the vicinity of a quantum critical point.  相似文献

The ground-state entanglement associated with a three-spin transverse Ising model is studied. By introducing an energy current into the system, a quantum phase transition to energy-current phase may be presented with the variation of external magnetic field; and the ground-state entanglement varies suddenly at the critical point of quantum phase transition. In our model, the introduction of energy current makes the entanglement between any two qubits become maximally robust.  相似文献

We report an inelastic neutron-scattering study at the field-induced magnetic quantum phase transition of CeCu5.8Au0.2. The data can be described better by the spin-density-wave scenario than by a local quantum critical point, while the latter scenario was shown to be applicable to the zero-field concentration-tuned quantum phase transition in CeCu6-xAux for x=0.1. This constitutes direct microscopic evidence for a difference in the quantum fluctuation spectra at a magnetic quantum critical point driven by different tuning parameters.  相似文献

We study the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering and quantum phase transitions of the transverse Ising and antiferromagnetic XXZ spin-1/2 chains. By making use of steerable weight, we calculate the steerability for the bipartite subsystems of the models. It is shown that steerability vanishes abruptly and its value maintains zero in a region close to the critical point for the Ising chain. This result is quite different from the information provided by entanglement and quantum discord. While for the XXZ chain, steerability increases and reaches maximal at the critical point, indicating the occurrence of quantum phase transition.  相似文献

A cluster algorithm formulated in continuous (imaginary) time is presented for Ising models in a transverse field. It works directly with an infinite number of time-slices in the imaginary time direction, avoiding the necessity to take this limit explicitly. The algorithm is tested at the zero-temperature critical point of the pure two-dimensional (2d) transverse Ising model. Then it is applied to the 2d Ising ferromagnet with random bonds and transverse fields, for which the phase diagram is determined. Finite size scaling at the quantum critical point as well as the study of the quantum Griffiths-McCoy phase indicate that the dynamical critical exponent is infinite as in 1d. We study a continuous quantum phase transition that breaks a Z2 symmetry. We show that the transition is described by a new critical point which does not belong to the Ising universality class, despite the presence of well-defined symmetry-breaking order parameter. The new critical point arises since the transition not only breaks the Z2 symmetry, it also changes the topological or quantum order in the two phases across the transition. We show that the new critical point can be identified in experiments by measuring critical exponents. So measuring critical exponents and identifying new critical points is a way to detect new topological phases and a way to measure topological or quantum orders in those phases.  相似文献

The ground-state entanglement in a transverse spin-1/2 XX chain with a magnetization current is studied.By introducing a magnetization current to the system,a quantum phase transition to current-carrying phase may be presented with the variation of the driving field λ for the magnetic field h > 1;and the ground-state entanglement arises simultaneously at the critical point of quantum phase transition.In our model,the introduction of magnetization current may result in more entanglement between any two nearest-neighbour spins.  相似文献

We consider the two lowest Landau levels at half filling. In the higher Landau level (nu = 5/2), we find a first-order phase transition separating a compressible striped phase from a paired quantum Hall state, which is identified as the Moore-Read state. The critical point is very near the Coulomb potential and the transition can be driven by increasing the width of the electron layer. We find a much weaker transition (either second-order or a crossover) from pairing to the composite fermion Fermi-liquid behavior. A very similar picture is obtained for the lowest Landau level, but the transition point is not near the Coulomb potential.  相似文献

We study the transition of a quantum system from a pure state to a mixed one, which is induced by the quantum criticality of the surrounding system E coupled to it. To characterize this transition quantitatively, we carefully examine the behavior of the Loschmidt echo (LE) of E modeled as an Ising model in a transverse field, which behaves as a measuring apparatus in quantum measurement. It is found that the quantum critical behavior of E strongly affects its capability of enhancing the decay of LE: near the critical value of the transverse field entailing the happening of quantum phase transition, the off-diagonal elements of the reduced density matrix describing S vanish sharply.  相似文献

Precise resistivity measurements on the ferromagnetic superconductor UGe2 under pressure p and magnetic field H reveal a previously unobserved change of the anomaly at the Curie temperature. Therefore, the tricritical point (TCP) where the paramagnetic-to-ferromagnetic transition changes from a second order to a first order transition is located in the p-T phase diagram. Moreover, the evolution of the TCP can be followed under the magnetic field in the same way. It is the first report of the boundary of the first order plane which appears in the p-T-H phase diagram of weak itinerant ferromagnets. This line of critical points starts from the TCP and will terminate at a quantum critical point. These measurements provide the first estimation of the location of the quantum critical point in the p-H plane and will inspire similar studies of the other weak itinerant ferromagnets.  相似文献

An analysis is presented of the phase transition of the quantum Ising model with transverse field on the d-dimensional hypercubic lattice. It is shown that there is a unique sharp transition. The value of the critical point is calculated rigorously in one dimension. The first step is to express the quantum Ising model in terms of a (continuous) classical Ising model in d+1 dimensions. A so-called ‘random-parity’ representation is developed for the latter model, similar to the random-current representation for the classical Ising model on a discrete lattice. Certain differential inequalities are proved. Integration of these inequalities yields the sharpness of the phase transition, and also a number of other facts concerning the critical and near-critical behaviour of the model under study.  相似文献

An interconnection between quantum bifurcations and quantum phase transitions is investigated. It is shown that the quantum phase transition is the limiting case of the quantum bifurcation in macroscopic systems. Critical phenomena in microscopic many-body systems such as nuclei and molecules are described by quantum bifurcations. They are characterized by a large transition region, which conceals a critical point. Both the quantum bifurcation and quantum phase transition show that a change in the internal structure of a system manifests itself in the modification of its rotational spectrum. Such an intimate connection between internal and rotational motion allows a critical phenomenon to be established. The text was submitted by the author in English.  相似文献

We study exciton transfer dynamics in a trimer system by investigating excitation transfer probability (ETP). We calculate ETP in the zero-temperature limit and theoretically predict the environment-assisted quantum critical effect, in which ETP exhibits a sudden change at the critical point of quantum phase transition for the trimer. In particular, we find that the steady-state ETP can be observed in the presence of the environment interaction.  相似文献

It is pointed out that the finite-size effect is not negligible in locating the critical point of quantum colordynamics (QCD) phase transitions at current relativistic heavy ion collisions. The finite-size scaling form of the critical related observable is suggested. Its fixed point behavior at critical incident energy can be served as a reliable identification of a critical point and nearby boundary of QCD phase transition. How to experimentally find the fixed point behavior is demonstrated by using 3D-Ising model as an example. The validity of the method at finite detector acceptances at RHIC is also discussed.  相似文献

The probability distribution of the order parameter is expected to take a universal scaling form at a phase transition. In a spin system at a quantum critical point, this corresponds to universal statistics in the distribution of the total magnetization in the low-lying states. We obtain this scaling function exactly for the ground state and first excited state of the critical quantum Ising spin chain. This is achieved through a remarkable relation to the partition function of the anisotropic Kondo problem, which can be computed by exploiting the integrability of the system.  相似文献

We investigate the zero-temperature quantum phase transition of the randombond Ising chain in a transverse magnetic field. Its critical properties are identical to those of the McCoy-Wu model, which is a classical Ising model in two dimensions with layered disorder. The latter is studied via Monte Carlo simulations and transfer matrix calculations and the critical exponents are determined with a finite-size scaling analysis. The magnetization and susceptibility obey conventional rather than activated scaling. We observe that the order parameter and correlation function probability distribution show a nontrivial scaling near the critical point, which implies a hierarchy of critical exponents associated with the critical behavior of the generalized correlation lengths.  相似文献

We study a fermionic infinited-ranged Ising spin glass with a real space BCS interaction in the presence of an applied transverse field. The problem is formulated in the integral functional formalism where the SU(2) spins are given in terms of bilinear combinations of Grassmann fields. The problem is solved within static approximation and the replica symmetry ansatz combined with previous approaches used to study the critical behavior of the quantum Ising spin glass in a transverse field and the spin glass Heisenberg model with BCS pairing. Our results show that the transverse field has strong effect in the phase boundary of the spin glass phase and the PAIR phase in which there is a long range order corresponding to formations of pairs. The location of the tricritical point in the PAIR phase transition line is also affected.  相似文献
