Straight Rings
A (commutative integral) domain is called a straight domain if A ? B is a prime morphism for each overring B of A; a (commutative unital) ring A is called a straight ring if A/P is a straight domain for all P ∈ Spec(A). A domain is a straight ring if and only if it is a straight domain. The class of straight rings sits properly between the class of locally divided rings and the class of going-down rings. An example is given of a two-dimensional going-down domain that is not a straight domain. The classes of straight rings, of locally divided rings, and of going-down rings coincide within the universe of seminormal weak Baer rings (for instance, seminormal domains). The class of straight rings is stable under formation of homomorphic images, rings of fractions, and direct limits. The “straight domain" property passes between domains having the same prime spectrum. Straight domains are characterized within the universe of conducive domains. If A is a domain with a nonzero ideal I and quotient field K, characterizations are given for A ? (I: K I) to be a prime morphism. If A is a domain and P ∈ Spec(A) such that A P is a valuation domain, then the CPI-extension C(P) := A + PA P is a straight domain if and only if A/P is a straight domain. If A is a going-down domain and P ∈ Spec(A), characterizations are given for A ? C(P) to be a prime morphism. Consequences include divided domain-like behavior of arbitrary straight domains.  相似文献

Some recent results of Ayache on going-down domains and extensions of domains that either are residually algebraic or have DCC on intermediate rings are generalized to the context of extensions of commutative rings. Given a finite maximal chain 𝒞 of R-subalgebras of a weak Baer ring T, it is shown how a “min morphism” hypothesis can be used to transfer the “going-down ring” property from R to each member of 𝒞. The integral minimal ring extensions which are min morphisms are classified. The ring extensions satisfying FCP (i.e., for which each chain of intermediate rings is finite) are characterized as the strongly affine extensions with DCC on intermediate rings. In the relatively integrally closed case, such extensions R ? T induce open immersions Spec(S) → Spec(R) for each R-subalgebra S of T.  相似文献

A ring R is said to be von Newmann local (VNL) if for any a ∈ R, either a or 1 ?a is (von Neumann) regular. The class of VNL rings lies properly between exchange rings and (von Neumann) regular rings. We characterize abelian VNL rings. We also characterize and classify arbitrary VNL rings without an infinite set of orthogonal idempotents; and also the VNL rings having a primitive idempotent e such that eRe is not a division ring. We prove that a semiperfect ring R is VNL if and only if for any right uni-modular row (a 1, a 2) ∈ R 2, one of the a i 's is regular in R. Formal triangular matrix rings that are VNL are also characterized. As a corollary, it is shown that an upper triangular matrix ring T n (R) is VNL if and only if n = 2 or 3 and R is a division ring.  相似文献

A regular ring R is separative provided that for all finitely generated projective right R-modules A and B, AA? AB? AB implies that A? B. We prove, in this article, that a regular ring R in which 2 is invertible is separative if and only if each a ∈ R satisfying R(1 ? a 2)R = Rr(a) = ?(a)R and i(End R (aR)) = ∞ is unit-regular if and only if each a ∈ R satisfying R(1 ? a 2)R ∩ RaR = Rr(a) ∩ ?(a)R ∩ RaR and i(End R (aR)) = ∞ is unit-regular. Further equivalent characterizations of such regular rings are also obtained.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we show that a regular ring R is a generalized stable ring if and only if for every x ∈ R, there exist a w ∈ K(R) and a group G in R such that wx ∈ G. Also we show that if R is a generalized stable regular ring, then for any A ∈ M n (R), there exist right invertible matrices U 1, U 2 ∈ M n (R) and left invertible matrices V 1, V 2 ∈ M n (R) such that U 1 V 1 AU 2 V 2 = diag(e 1,…, e n ) for some idempotents e 1,…, e n  ∈ R.  相似文献

The left quotient ring (i.e., the left classical ring of fractions) Qcl(R) of a ring R does not always exist and still, in general, there is no good understanding of the reason why this happens. In this article, existence of the largest left quotient ring Ql(R) of an arbitrary ring R is proved, i.e., Ql(R) = S0(R)?1R where S0(R) is the largest left regular denominator set of R. It is proved that Ql(Ql(R)) = Ql(R); the ring Ql(R) is semisimple iff Qcl(R) exists and is semisimple; moreover, if the ring Ql(R) is left Artinian, then Qcl(R) exists and Ql(R) = Qcl(R). The group of units Ql(R)* of Ql(R) is equal to the set {s?1t | s, t ∈ S0(R)} and S0(R) = RQl(R)*. If there exists a finitely generated flat left R-module which is not projective, then Ql(R) is not a semisimple ring. We extend slightly Ore's method of localization to localizable left Ore sets, give a criterion of when a left Ore set is localizable, and prove that all left and right Ore sets of an arbitrary ring are localizable (not just denominator sets as in Ore's method of localization). Applications are given for certain classes of rings (semiprime Goldie rings, Noetherian commutative rings, the algebra of polynomial integro-differential operators).  相似文献

Let R be an exchange ring with all idempotents central, and let Max(R) ? Ξ(R) ? Spec(R). If ∩{P | P ∈ Ξ(R)} is nil, we prove that K 0(R) ? {f : Ξ(R) → ?| f is continuous}.  相似文献

A commutative ring R with identity is condensed (respectively strongly condensed) if for each pair of ideals I, J of R, IJ = {ij | i ∈ I, j ∈ J} (resp., IJ = iJ for some i ∈ I or IJ = Ij for some j ∈ J). In a similar fashion we can define regularly condensed and regularly strongly condensed rings by restricting I and J to be regular ideals. We show that an arbitrary product of rings is condensed if and only if each factor is so, and that R[X] is condensed if and only if R is von Neumann regular. A number of results known in the domain case are extended to the ring case. Regularly strongly condensed and one-dimensional regularly condensed Noetherian rings are characterized.  相似文献

A right module M over a ring R is called feebly Baer if, whenever xa = 0 with x ∈ M and a ∈ R, there exists e2 = e ∈ R such that xe = 0 and ea = a. The ring R is called feebly Baer if RR is a feebly Baer module. These notions are motivated by the commutative analog discussed in a recent paper by Knox, Levy, McGovern, and Shapiro [6 Knox , M. L. , Levy , R. , McGovern , W. Wm. , Shapiro , J. ( 2009 ) Generalizations of complemented rings with applications to rings of functions. . J. Alg. Appl. 8 ( 1 ): 1740 .[Crossref] [Google Scholar]]. Basic properties of feebly Baer rings and modules are proved, and their connections with von Neumann regular rings are addressed.  相似文献

Let R be a ring, (S, ≤) a strictly ordered monoid and ω: S → End(R) a monoid homomorphism. The skew generalized power series ring R[[S, ω]] is a common generalization of (skew) polynomial rings, (skew) power series rings, (skew) Laurent polynomial rings, (skew) group rings, and Mal'cev–Neumann Laurent series rings. In this article, we study relations between the (quasi-) Baer, principally quasi-Baer and principally projective properties of a ring R, and its skew generalized power series extension R[[S, ω]]. As particular cases of our general results, we obtain new theorems on (skew) group rings, Mal'cev–Neumann Laurent series rings, and the ring of generalized power series.  相似文献

Let M be a module over a commutative ring R. A submodule P of M is called prime if P ≠ M and, whenever r ∈ R, e ∈ M, and re ∈ P, we have rM ? P or e ∈ P. We let Spec(M) denote the set of all prime submodules of M. Using a topology analogous to the Zariski topology for Spec(R), we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for Spec(M) to be a Noetherian space. We produce some examples of modules with Noetherian spectrum that have not appeared in the literature previously. In particular, Laskerian modules and faithfully flat modules over Laskerian rings have Noetherian spectra. (The term Laskerian is defined in Section 3.)  相似文献

Abstract

For a (left and right) noetherian semilocal ring R we analyse a regularity concept (called weak regularity) based on the equation gld R = dim R. Examples are regular Cohen-Macaulay orders over a regular local ring, localized enveloping algebras of finite dimensional Lie algebras, and the regular rings classified in Rump (2001b). We prove that weakly regular rings are Auslander-regular and Macaulay.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a construction called the skew generalized power series ring R[[S, ω]] with coefficients in a ring R and exponents in a strictly ordered monoid S which extends Ribenboim's construction of generalized power series rings. In the case when S is totally ordered or commutative aperiodic, and ω(s) is constant on idempotents for some s ∈ S?{1}, we give sufficient and necessary conditions on R and S such that the ring R[[S, ω]] is von Neumann regular, and we show that the von Neumann regularity of the ring R[[S, ω]] is equivalent to its semisimplicity. We also give a characterization of the strong regularity of the ring R[[S, ω]].  相似文献

We extend the notion of a purely infinite simple C *-algebra to the context of unital rings, and we study its basic properties, specially those related to K-theory. For instance, if R is a purely infinite simple ring, then K 0(R)+ = K 0(R), the monoid of isomorphism classes of finitely generated projective R-modules is isomorphic to the monoid obtained from K 0(R) by adjoining a new zero element, and K 1(R) is the Abelianization of the group of units of R. We develop techniques of construction, obtaining new examples in this class in the case of von Neumann regular rings, and we compute the Grothendieck groups of these examples. In particular, we prove that every countable Abelian group is isomorphic to K 0 of some purely infinite simple regular ring. Finally, some known examples are analyzed within this framework.  相似文献

An ideal I of a ring R is generalized stable in case aR + bR = R with a ∈ I, b ∈ R implies that there exist s, t ∈ 1 + I such that s(a + by)t = 1 for a y ∈ R. We establish, in this article, necessary and sufficient conditions for an ideal of a regular ring to be generalized stable. It is shown that every regular square matrix over such ideals admits a diagonal reduction. These extend the corresponding results of generalized stable regular rings.  相似文献

Let n≥1 be a fixed integer, R a prime ring with its right Martindale quotient ring Q, C the extended centroid, and L a non-central Lie ideal of R. If F is a generalized skew derivation of R such that (F(x)F(y)?yx)n = 0 for all x,yL, then char(R) = 2 and R?M2(C), the ring of 2×2 matrices over C.  相似文献

An element a of a ring R is called J-quasipolar if there exists p 2 = p ∈ R satisfying p ∈ comm2(a) and a + p ∈ J(R); R is called J-quasipolar in case each of its elements is J-quasipolar. The class of this sort of rings lies properly between the class of uniquely clean rings and the class of quasipolar rings. In particular, every J-quasipolar element in a ring is quasipolar. It is shown, in this paper, that a ring R is J-quasipolar iff R/J(R) is boolean and R is quasipolar. For a local ring R, we prove that every n × n upper triangular matrix ring over R is J-quasipolar iff R is uniquely bleached and R/J(R) ? ?2. Moreover, it is proved that any matrix ring of size greater than 1 is never J-quasipolar. Consequently, we determine when a 2 × 2 matrix over a commutative local ring is J-quasipolar. A criterion in terms of solvability of the characteristic equation is obtained for such a matrix to be J-quasipolar.  相似文献

In this note, a hereditary radical property, called homomorphically reduced rings, is introduced, observed, and applied. The dual concept of this property is also studied with the help of Courter, proving that any ring R (possibly without identity) has an ideal S such that S/K is not homomorphically reduced for each proper ideal K of S; and if L is an ideal of R with L ? S, then L/H is homomorphically reduced for some ideal H of R with H ? L. The concept of the homomorphical reducedness is shown to be equivalent to the left (right) weak regularity and the (strong) regularity for one-sided duo rings. It is proved that homomorphically reduced rings have several useful properties similar to those of (weakly) regular rings. It is proved that the homomorphical reducedness can go up to classical quotient rings. It is shown that if R is a reduced right Ore ring with the ascending chain condition (ACC) for annihilator ideals, then the maximal right quotient ring of R is strongly regular (hence homomorphically reduced).  相似文献

Let K be a field, D a finite distributive lattice and P the set of all join-irreducible elements of D. We show that if {y ∈ P | y ≥ x} is pure for any x ∈ P, then the Hibi ring ? K (D) is level. Using this result and the argument of sagbi basis theory, we show that the homogeneous coordinate rings of Schubert subvarieties of Grassmannians are level.  相似文献

A ring R is called left P-coherent in case each principal left ideal of R is finitely presented. A left R-module M (resp. right R-module N) is called D-injective (resp. D-flat) if Ext1(G, M) = 0 (resp. Tor1(N, G) = 0) for every divisible left R-module G. It is shown that every left R-module over a left P-coherent ring R has a divisible cover; a left R-module M is D-injective if and only if M is the kernel of a divisible precover A → B with A injective; a finitely presented right R-module L over a left P-coherent ring R is D-flat if and only if L is the cokernel of a torsionfree preenvelope K → F with F flat. We also study the divisible and torsionfree dimensions of modules and rings. As applications, some new characterizations of von Neumann regular rings and PP rings are given.  相似文献
