On the trace of the antipode and higher indicators

We introduce two kinds of gauge invariants for any finite-dimensional Hopf algebra H. When H is semisimple over C, these invariants are, respectively, the trace of the map induced by the antipode on the endomorphism ring of a self-dual simple module, and the higher Frobenius-Schur indicators of the regular representation. We further study the values of these higher indicators in the context of complex semisimple quasi-Hopf algebras H. We prove that these indicators are non-negative provided the module category over H is modular, and that for a prime p, the p-th indicator is equal to 1 if, and only if, p is a factor of dimH. As an application, we show the existence of a non-trivial self-dual simple H-module with bounded dimension which is determined by the value of the second indicator.     

On the Structure of Weak Hopf Algebras

We study the group of group-like elements of a weak Hopf algebra and derive an analogue of Radford's formula for the fourth power of the antipode S, which implies that the antipode has a finite order modulo, a trivial automorphism. We find a sufficient condition in terms of Tr(S²) for a weak Hopf algebra to be semisimple, discuss relation between semisimplicity and cosemisimplicity, and apply our results to show that a dynamical twisting deformation of a semisimple Hopf algebra is cosemisimple.     

Trace-Like Invariant for Representations of Nilpotent Liftings of Quantum Planes

We derive a formula for the trace of the antipode on endomorphism algebras of simple self-dual modules of nilpotent liftings of quantum planes. We show that the trace is equal to the quantum dimension of the module up to a nonzero scalar depending on the simple module.     

Uniformly convex subsets of the Hilbert space with modulus of convexity of the second order

We prove that in the Hilbert space every uniformly convex set with modulus of convexity of the second order at zero is an intersection of closed balls of fixed radius. We also obtain an estimate of this radius.     

The antipode and primitive elements in the Hopf monoid of supercharacters

From a recent paper, we recall the Hopf monoid structure on the supercharacters of the unipotent uppertriangular groups over a finite field. We give cancellation-free formula for the antipode applied to the bases of class functions and power sum functions, giving new cancellation-free formulae for the standard Hopf algebra of supercharacters and symmetric functions in noncommuting variables. We also give partial results for the antipode on the supercharacter basis, and explicitly describe the primitives of this Hopf monoid.

本文证明了带有等价Hom- 范畴的Hom- 双代数是Hom-Hopf 代数, 在基本结构定理成立的前提下, 构造了对极使其成为Hom-Hopf 代数. 研究了拟三角Hom-Hopf 代数的对极, 并给出了Hom-Hopf 代数的Radford 公式. 最后, 对有限维Hom-Hopf 代数, 引入了Drinfel''d 偶的概念, 同时证明了Drinfel''d 偶是拟三角Hom-Hopf 代数.     

Multiplier Hopf algebroids: Basic theory and examples

Multiplier Hopf algebroids are algebraic versions of quantum groupoids that generalize Hopf algebroids to the non-unital case and weak (multiplier) Hopf algebras to non-separable base algebras. The main structure maps of a multiplier Hopf algebroid are a left and a right comultiplication. We show that bijectivity of two associated canonical maps is equivalent to the existence of an antipode, discusses invertibility of the antipode, and presents some examples and special cases.     

Pontryagin duality for bornological quantum hypergroups

We develop a theory of bornological quantum hypergroups, aiming to extend the theory of algebraic quantum hypergroups in the sense of Delvaux and Van Daele to the framework of bornological vector spaces. It is very similar to the theory of bornological quantum groups established by Voigt, except that the coproduct is no longer assumed to be a homomorphism. We still require the existence of a left and of a right integral. There is also an antipode but it is characterized in terms of these integrals. We study the Fourier transform and develop Pontryagin duality theory for a bornological quantum hypergroup. As an application, we prove a formula relating the fourth power of the antipode with the modular functions of a bornological quantum hypergroup and its dual.     

A Trace-Like Invariant for Representations of Hopf Algebras

We introduce an invariant for the irreducible representations of finite dimensional Hopf algebras, defined as the trace of a map induced by the antipode on the endomorphisms of each corresponding simple module. We also compute the value of this invariant for the representations of two families of non-semisimple Hopf algebras.     

Larson–Sweedler theorem and the role of grouplike elements in weak Hopf algebras

We extend the Larson–Sweedler theorem [Amer. J. Math. 91 (1969) 75] to weak Hopf algebras by proving that a finite dimensional weak bialgebra is a weak Hopf algebra iff it possesses a non-degenerate left integral. We show that the category of modules over a weak Hopf algebra is autonomous monoidal with semisimple unit and invertible modules. We also reveal the connection of invertible modules to left and right grouplike elements in the dual weak Hopf algebra. Defining distinguished left and right grouplike elements, we derive the Radford formula [Amer. J. Math. 98 (1976) 333] for the fourth power of the antipode in a weak Hopf algebra and prove that the order of the antipode is finite up to an inner automorphism by a grouplike element in the trivial subalgebra A^T of the underlying weak Hopf algebra A.     

A gap theorem for hypersurfaces of the sphere with constant scalar curvature one

We consider closed hypersurfaces of the sphere with scalar curvature one, prove a gap theorem for a modified second fundamental form and determine the hypersurfaces that are at the end points of the gap. As an application we characterize the closed, two-sided index one hypersurfaces with scalar curvature one in the real projective space. Received: October 12, 2001     

Subcoalgebras and endomorphisms of free Hopf algebras

For a matrix coalgebra C over some field, we determine all small subcoalgebras of the free Hopf algebra on C, the free Hopf algebra with a bijective antipode on C, and the free Hopf algebra with antipode S satisfying on C for some fixed d. We use this information to find the endomorphisms of these free Hopf algebras, and to determine the centers of the categories of Hopf algebras, Hopf algebras with bijective antipode, and Hopf algebras with antipode of order dividing 2d.     

On the order of the antipode of hopf algebras

In this paper we consider a conjecture on the order of the antipode of semisimple Hopf algebras in the Yetter-Drinfeld category and study a related property of the ordinary Hopf algebras. We show that most known examples of finite-dimensional semisimple Hopf algebras satisfy this property.     

A resolution (minimal model) of the PROP for bialgebras

This paper is concerned with a minimal resolution of the PROP for bialgebras (Hopf algebras without unit, counit and antipode). We prove a theorem about the form of this resolution (Theorem 15) and give, in Section 5, a lot of explicit formulas for the differential.     

Approximation by the class of functions with bounded second derivative

The paper studies the problem of uniform approximation of a continuous function on a closed interval by the class of functions with bounded second derivative. We prove an estimate of the value of best approximation of the function by this class via its second modulus of continuity. The obtained estimate is sharp for the class of continuous functions.     

Hopf代数的结构定理和对映阶数

本文中，我们把Ｈｏｐｆ代数的结构定理推广到Ｈｏｐｆ代数意义下的同构，从而给出Ｈｏｐｆ代数既约分支的对映阶数，并得到Ｈｏｐｆ代数扩张的对映阶数是任意的．这部分回答了Ｅ．Ｊ．Ｔａｆｔ１９９４年提出的一个问题．     

The antipode of a quasitriangular quasi-Turaev group coalgebra is bijective

In order to construct a class of new Turaev-braided group category with nontrivial associativity, the concept of a quasitriangular quasi-Turaev group coalgebras was recently introduced. Inside the definition, the conditions of invertibility of the R-matrix R and bijectivity of the antipode S are required. In this article, we prove that the antipode of a quasitriangular quasi-Turaev group coalgebra without the assumptions about invertibility of the antipode and R-matrix is inner, and a fortiori, bijective. As an application, we prove that for a quasitriangular quasi-Turaev group coalgebra, two conditions mentioned above are unnecessary.     

The Bijectivity of the Antipode Revisited

We provide a very short approach to several fundamental results for Hopf algebras with nonzero integrals. Besides being short, our approach is the first to prove the bijectivity of the antipode without using the uniqueness of the integrals of Hopf algebras and to obtain the uniqueness of integrals as a corollary in a way similar to the classical theory of the Haar measure on compact groups.     

Combinatorial properties of the noncommutative Faà di Bruno algebra

We give a new combinatorial interpretation of the noncommutative Lagrange inversion formula, more precisely, of the formula of Brouder–Frabetti–Krattenthaler for the antipode of the noncommutative Faà di Bruno algebra.
