Following Zhu (Semigroup Forum, 2011, doi:), we study generalized Cayley graphs of semigroups. The Cayley D-saturated property, a particular combinatorial property, of generalized Cayley graphs of semigroups is considered and most of the results in Kelarev and Quinn (Semigroup Forum 66:89–96, 2003), Yang and Gao (Semigroup Forum 80:174–180, 2010) are extended. In addition, for some basic graphs and their complete fission graphs, we describe all semigroups whose universal Cayley graphs are isomorphic to these graphs.  相似文献

Remmers (Adv. Math. 36:283–296, 1980) uses group diagrams in the Euclidean plane to demonstrate how equality in a semigroup S “mirrors” that inside the group G sharing the same presentation with S, when S satisfies Adyan’s condition—no cycles in the left/right graphs of the semigroup’s presentation. Goldstein and Teymouri (Semigroup Forum 47:299–304, 1993) introduce a conjugacy equivalence relation for semigroups S. By closely examining the geometry of annular group diagrams in the plane, they show how their equivalence relation mirrors conjugacy inside G, for S satisfying Adyan’s. In this article we introduce two cancellative commutative congruences. Following their leads, we examine the geometry of group diagrams on closed surfaces of higher genera to demonstrate how these congruences mirror equality inside two naturally associated Abelian quotient groups G/[G,G] and G/G 2, respectively. In these instances we can drop Adyan’s condition.  相似文献

In this paper we give counterexamples for the open problem, posed by Blackmore (Semigroup Forum 55:359–377, 1987) of whether weak amenability of a semigroup algebra 1(S) implies complete regularity of the semigroup S. We present a neat set of conditions on a commutative semigroup (involving concepts well known to those working with semigroups, e.g. the counterexamples are nil and 0-cancellative) which ensure that S is irregular (in fact, has no nontrivial regular subsemigroup), but 1(S) is weakly amenable. Examples are then given.  相似文献

We say that a semigroup S is a permutable semigroup if the congruences of S commute with each other, that is, αβ=βα is satisfied for all congruences α and β of S. A semigroup is called a medial semigroup if it satisfies the identity axyb=ayxb. The medial permutable semigroups were examined in Proc. Coll. Math. Soc. János Bolyai, vol. 39, pp. 21–39 (1981), where the medial semigroups of the first, the second and the third kind were characterized, respectively. In Atta Accad. Sci. Torino, I-Cl. Sci. Fis. Mat. Nat. 117, 355–368 (1983) a construction was given for medial permutable semigroups of the second [the third] kind. In the present paper we give a construction for medial permutable semigroups of the first kind. We prove that they can be obtained from non-archimedean commutative permutable semigroups (which were characterized in Semigroup Forum 10, 55–66, 1975). Let S be an inverse semigroup. In Rezavand et al. (Semigroup Forum 77:300–305, 2008) and Munn (Proc. Glasgow Math. Assoc. 5:41–48, 1961) two equivalence relations are defined on  S. After describing these relations we show that they coincide.  相似文献

On covers of cyclic acts over monoids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In (Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 33:385–390, 2001) Bican, Bashir and Enochs finally solved a long standing conjecture in module theory that all modules over a unitary ring have a flat cover. The only substantial work on covers of acts over monoids seems to be that of Isbell (Semigroup Forum 2:95–118, 1971), Fountain (Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc. (2) 20:87–93, 1976) and Kilp (Semigroup Forum 53:225–229, 1996) who only consider projective covers. To our knowledge the situation for flat covers of acts has not been addressed and this paper is an attempt to initiate such a study. We consider almost exclusively covers of cyclic acts and restrict our attention to strongly flat and condition (P) covers. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of such covers and for a monoid to have the property that all its cyclic right acts have a strongly flat cover (resp. (P)-cover). We give numerous classes of monoids that satisfy these conditions and we also show that there are monoids that do not satisfy this condition in the strongly flat case. We give a new necessary and sufficient condition for a cyclic act to have a projective cover and provide a new proof of one of Isbell’s classic results concerning projective covers. We show also that condition (P) covers are not unique, unlike the situation for projective covers.  相似文献

In this paper we study the main properties of the Cesàro means of bi-continuous semigroups, introduced and studied by Kühnemund (Semigroup Forum 67:205–225, 2003). We also give some applications to Feller semigroups generated by second-order elliptic differential operators with unbounded coefficients in C b (ℝ N ) and to evolution operators associated with nonautonomous second-order differential operators in C b (ℝ N ) with time-periodic coefficients.  相似文献

Already in his PhD Thesis on compact Abelian semigroups under the direction of Karl Heinrich Hofmann the author was lead to investigate locally compact cones (Keimel in Math. Z. 99:205–428, 1967). This happened in the setting of Hausdorff topologies. The theme of topological cones has been reappearing in the author’s work in a non-Hausdorff setting motivated by the needs of mathematical models for a denotational semantics of languages combining probabilistic and nondeterministic choice. This is in the line of common work with Karl Heinrich Hofmann in Continuous Lattices and Domains (Gierz et al. in Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications, vol. 93, 2003). Domain Theory is based on order theoretical notions from which intrinsic non-Hausdorff topologies are derived. Along these lines, domain theoretical variants of (sub-) probability measures have been introduced by Jones and Plotkin (Jones, PhD thesis, 1990; Jones and Plotkin in Proceedings of the Fourth Annual Symposium on Logic in Computer Science, pp. 186–195, 1989). Kirch (Master’s thesis, 1993) and Tix (Master’s thesis, 1995) have extended this theory to a domain theoretical version of measures and they have introduced and studied directed complete partially ordered cones as appropriate structures. Driven by the needs of a semantics for languages combining probability and nondeterminism, Tix (Theor. Comput. Sci 264:205–218, 1999; PhD thesis, 1999) and later on Plotkin and Keimel (Electron. Notes Theor. Comput. Sci. 129:1–104, 2005) developed basic functional analytic tools for these structures. In this paper we extend this theory to topological cones the topologies of which are strongly non-Hausdorff. We carefully introduce these structures and their elementary properties. We prove Hahn-Banach type separation theorems under appropriate local convexity hypotheses. We finally construct a monad assigning to every topological cone C another topological cone the elements of which are nonempty compact convex subsets of C. For proving that this construction has good properties needed for the application in semantics we use the functional analytic tools developed before. Dedicated to Karl Heinrich Hofmann at the occasion of his 75th birthday. Thanks to Gordon Plotkin for numerous discussions. Preliminary results have been announced at MFPS XXIII 20. In his Master’s thesis supervised by the author, B. Cohen 6 has worked out some of those results.  相似文献

In this paper, the translational hull of a type B semigroup is considered. We prove that the translational hull of a type B semigroup is itself a type B semigroup, and give some properties and characterizations of the translational hulls of such semigroups. Moreover, we consider the translational hulls of some special type B semigroups. These results strengthen the results of Fountain and Lawson (Semigroup Forum 32:79–86, 1985) on adequate semigroups. Finally, we give a new proof of a problem posted by Petrich on translational hulls of inverse semigroups in Petrich (Inverse Semigroups, Wiley, New York, 1984).  相似文献

A semigroup is called type-E if the band of its idempotents can be expressed as a direct product of a rectangular band and an ω-chain. For brevity, we call an IC *-bisimple quasi-adequate semigroup of type-E a q *-bisimple IC semigroup of type-E. In this paper, we characterize q *-bisimple semigroups by using some kind of generalized Bruck-Reilly extensions. As a consequence, some results concerning *-bisimple type-A ω-semigroups given by Asibong-Ibe (Semigroup Forum 31:99–117, 1985) are generalized.  相似文献

Stone-Čech compactifications derived from a discrete semigroup S can be considered as the spectrum of the algebra ℬ(S) or as a collection of ultrafilters on S. What is certain and indisputable is the fact that filters play an important role in the study of Stone-Čech compactifications derived from a discrete semigroup. It seems that filters can play a role in the study of general semigroup compactifications too. In the present paper, first we review the characterizations of semigroup compactifications in terms of filters and then extend some of the results in Papazyan (Semigroup Forum 41:329–338, 1990) concerning the Stone-Čech compactification to a semigroup compactification associated with a Hausdorff semitopological semigroup.  相似文献

Let C be a small category. Then we consider 1(C) as the 1 algebra over the morphisms of C, with convolution product and also consider as the 1 algebra over the objects of C, with pointwise multiplication. The main purpose of this paper is to show that approximate amenability of 1(C) implies of and clearly this implies that C has only finitely many objects. Some applications are given, the main one is the characterization of approximate amenability for 1(S), where S is a Brandt semigroup, which corrects a result of Lashkarizadeh Bami and Samea (Semigroup Forum 71:312–322, 2005).  相似文献

We study stability properties of certain evolution equations including the fractional Cauchy problem. Under some spectral assumptions these equations are governed either by a resolvent or a regularized resolvent or a k-convoluted semigroup. We investigate the long time behavior for bounded solutions by a direct application of the ergodic theorems for regularized resolvents of Lizama and Prado (J. Approx. Theory 122:42–61, 2003), Prado (Semigroup Forum 73:243–252, 2006). We apply our results to the qualitative study of the fractional diffusion-wave equation on L p (ℝ). We extend the ‘-premorphisms’ part of the Ehresmann-Schein-Nambooripad Theorem to the case of two-sided restriction semigroups and inductive categories, following on from a result of Lawson (J. Algebra 141:422–462, 1991) for the ‘morphisms’ part. However, it is so-called ‘-premorphisms’ which have proved useful in recent years in the study of partial actions. We therefore obtain an Ehresmann-Schein-Nambooripad-type theorem for (ordered) -premorphisms in the case of two-sided restriction semigroups and inductive categories. As a corollary, we obtain such a theorem in the inverse case.  相似文献

A right-chain semigroup is a semigroup whose right ideals are totally ordered by set inclusion. The main result of this paper says that if S is a right-chain semigroup admitting a ring structure, then either S is a null semigroup with two elements or sS=S for some sS. Using this we give an elementary proof of Oman’s characterization of semigroups admitting a ring structure whose subsemigroups (containing zero) form a chain. We also apply this result, along with two other results proved in this paper, to show that no nontrivial multiplicative bounded interval semigroup on the real line ℝ admits a ring structure, obtaining the main results of Kemprasit et al. (ScienceAsia 36: 85–88, 2010).  相似文献

The spiral is one of nature’s more ubiquitous shapes: It can be seen in various media, from galactic geometry to cardiac tissue. Mathematically, spiral waves arise as solutions to reaction–diffusion partial differential equations (RDS). In the literature, various experimentally observed dynamical states and bifurcations of spiral waves have been explained using the underlying Euclidean symmetry of the RDS—see for example (Barkley in Phys. Rev. Lett. 68:2090–2093, 1992; Phys. Rev. Lett. 76:164–167, 1994; Sandstede et al. in C. R. Acad. Sci. 324:153–158, 1997; J. Differ. Equ. 141:122–149, 1997; J. Nonlinear Sci. 9:439–478, 1999), or additionally using the concept of forced Euclidean symmetry-breaking for situations where an inhomogeneity or anisotropy is present—see (LeBlanc in Nonlinearity 15:1179–1203, 2002; LeBlanc and Wulff in J. Nonlinear Sci. 10:569–601, 2000). In this paper, we further investigate the role of medium inhomogeneities on spiral wave dynamics by considering the effects of several localized sites of inhomogeneity. Using a model-independent approach based on n>1 simultaneous translational symmetry-breaking perturbations of the dynamics near rotating waves, we fully characterize the local anchoring behavior of the spiral wave in the n-dimensional parameter space of relative “amplitudes” of the individual perturbations. For the case n=2, we supplement the local anchoring results with a classification of the generic one-parameter bifurcation diagrams of anchored states which can be obtained by circling the origin of the two-dimensional amplitude parameter space. Numerical examples are given to illustrate our various results.  相似文献

We show that the leading coefficient of the Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomial P x,w (q) known as μ(x,w) is always either 0 or 1 when w is a Deodhar element of a finite Weyl group. The Deodhar elements have previously been characterized using pattern avoidance in Billey and Warrington (J. Algebraic Combin. 13(2):111–136, [2001]) and Billey and Jones (Ann. Comb. [2008], to appear). In type A, these elements are precisely the 321-hexagon avoiding permutations. Using Deodhar’s algorithm (Deodhar in Geom. Dedicata 63(1):95–119, [1990]), we provide some combinatorial criteria to determine when μ(x,w)=1 for such permutations w. In this paper we obtain and establish some important results in ordered Γ-semigroups extending and generalizing those for semigroups given in [PETRICH, M.: Introduction to Semigroups, Merill, Columbus, 1973] and for ordered semigroups from [KEHAYOPULU, N.: On weakly prime ideals of ordered semigroups, Math. Japon. 35 (1990), 1051–1056], [KEHAYOPULU, N.: On prime, weakly prime ideals in ordered semigroups, Semigroup Forum 44 (1992), 341–346] and [XIE, X. Y.—WU, M. F.: On quasi-prime, weakly quasi-prime left ideals in ordered semigroups, PU.M.A. 6 (1995), 105–120]. We introduce and give some characterizations about the quasi-prime and weakly quasi-prime left ideals of ordered-Γ-semigroups. We also introduce the concept of weakly m-systems in ordered Γ-semigroups and give some characterizations of the quasi-prime and weakly quasi-prime left ideals by weakly m-systems.  相似文献

Two natural extensions of Jensen’s functional equation on the real line are the equations f(xy) + f(xy −1) =  2f(x) and f(xy) + f(y −1 x) =  2f(x), where f is a map from a multiplicative group G into an abelian additive group H. In a series of papers (see Ng in Aequationes Math 39:85–99, 1990; Ng in Aequationes Math 58:311–320, 1999; Ng in Aequationes Math 62:143–159, 2001), Ng solved these functional equations for the case where G is a free group and the linear group GLn(R), R=\mathbbZ,\mathbbR{{GL_n(R), R=\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{R}}} , is a quadratically closed field or a finite field. He also mentioned, without a detailed proof, in the above papers and in (see Ng in Aequationes Math 70:131–153, 2005) that when G is the symmetric group S n , the group of all solutions of these functional equations coincides with the group of all homomorphisms from (S n , ·) to (H, + ). The aim of this paper is to give an elementary and direct proof of this fact.  相似文献
