The two-dimensional loading heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem (2L-HFVRP) is a variant of the classical vehicle routing problem in which customers are served by a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles. These vehicles have different capacities, fixed and variable operating costs, length and width in dimension, and two-dimensional loading constraints. The objective of this problem is to minimize transportation cost of designed routes, according to which vehicles are used, to satisfy the customer demand. In this study, we proposed a simulated annealing with heuristic local search (SA_HLS) to solve the problem and the search was then extended with a collection of packing heuristics to solve the loading constraints in 2L-HFVRP. To speed up the search process, a data structure was used to record the information related to loading feasibility. The effectiveness of SA_HLS was tested on benchmark instances derived from the two-dimensional loading vehicle routing problem (2L-CVRP). In addition, the performance of SA_HLS was also compared with three other 2L-CVRP models and four HFVRP methods found in the literature.  相似文献

This paper discusses the Two-dimensional Loading Vehicle Routing Problem with Heterogeneous Fleet, Sequential Loading, and Item Rotation (2L-HFVRP-SR). Despite the fact that the 2L-HFVRP-SR can be found in many real-life situations related to the transportation of voluminous items, where heterogeneity of fleets, two-dimensional packing restrictions, sequential loading, and items rotation have to be considered, this rich version of vehicle routing-and-packing problem has been rarely analysed in the literature. Accordingly, this paper contributes to filling the gap by presenting a relatively simple-to-implement algorithm which is able to provide state-of-the-art solutions for such a complex problem in relatively short computational times. The proposed algorithm integrates inside an Iterated Local Search framework, biased-randomized versions of both vehicle routing and packing heuristics. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is validated throughout an extensive set of computational tests.  相似文献

We present a metaheuristic methodology for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem with two-dimensional loading constraints (2L-CVRP). 2L-CVRP is a generalisation of the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem, in which customer demand is formed by a set of two-dimensional, rectangular, weighted items. The purpose of this problem is to produce the minimum cost routes, starting and terminating at a central depot, to satisfy the customer demand. Furthermore, the transported items must be feasibly packed into the loading surfaces of the vehicles. We propose a metaheuristic algorithm which incorporates the rationale of Tabu Search and Guided Local Search. The loading aspects of the problem are tackled using a collection of packing heuristics. To accelerate the search process, we reduce the neighbourhoods explored, and employ a memory structure to record the loading feasibility information. Extensive experiments were conducted to calibrate the algorithmic parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed metaheuristic algorithm was tested on benchmark instances and led to several new best solutions.  相似文献

The present article examines a vehicle routing problem integrated with two-dimensional loading constraints, called 2L-CVRP. The problem is aimed at generating the optimal route set for satisfying customer demand. In addition, feasible loading arrangements have to be determined for the transported products. To solve 2L-CVRP, we propose a metaheuristic solution approach. The basic advantage of our approach lies at its compact structure, as in total, only two parameters affect the algorithmic performance. To optimize the routing aspects, we propose a local-search method equipped with an effective diversification component based on the regional aspiration criteria. The problem’s loading requirements are tackled by employing a two-dimensional packing heuristic which repetitively attempts to develop feasible loading patterns. These attempts are effectively coordinated via an innovative, simple-structured memory mechanism. The overall solution framework makes use of several memory components for drastically reducing the computational effort required. The performance of our metaheuristic development has been successfully evaluated on benchmark instances considering two distinct versions of the loading constraints. More specifically, the algorithm managed to improve or match the majority of best known solution scores for both problem versions.  相似文献

This work proposes a scatter search (SS) approach to solve the fleet size and mix vehicle routing problem with time windows (FSMVRPTW). In the FSMVRPTW the customers need to be serviced in their time windows at minimal costs by a heterogeneous fleet. Computational results on 168 benchmark problems are reported. Computational testing revealed that our algorithm presented better results compared to other methods published in the literature.  相似文献

The problem reported in this paper is a variant of the classical vehicle routing problem, where customer requests for a transportation company can be served either by its private fleet of vehicles or assigned to an external common carrier. The latter case occurs if the demand exceeds the total capacity of the private fleet or if it is more economical to do so. Accordingly, the objective is to minimize the variable and fixed costs of the private fleet plus the costs charged by the common carrier. A tabu search heuristic with a neighbourhood structure based on ejection chains is proposed to solve this problem. It is empirically demonstrated that this algorithm outperforms the best approaches reported in the literature on a set of benchmark instances with both homogeneous and heterogeneous fleets.  相似文献

This paper presents a tabu search based method for finding good solutions to a real-life vehicle routing problem. The problem considered deals with some new features beyond those normally associated with the classical problems of the literature: in addition to capacity constraints for vehicles and time windows for deliveries, it takes the heterogeneous character of the fleet into account, in the sense that utilization costs are vehicle-dependent and that some accessibility restrictions have to be fulfilled. It also deals with the use of trailers. In spite of the intricacy of the problem, the proposed tabu search approach is easy to implement and can be easily adapted to many other applications. An emphasis is placed on means that have to be used to speed up the search. In a few minutes of computation on a personal workstation, our approach obtains solutions that are significantly better than those previously developed and implemented in practice.  相似文献

The two-dimensional level strip packing problem (2LSPP) consists in packing rectangular items of given size into a strip of given width divided into levels. Items packed into the same level cannot be put on top of one another and their overall width cannot exceed the width of the strip. The objective is to accommodate all the items while minimizing the overall height of the strip. The problem is -hard and arises from applications in logistics and transportation. We present a set covering formulation of the 2LSPP suitable for a column generation approach, where each column corresponds to a feasible combination of items inserted into the same level. For the exact optimization of the 2LSPP we present a branch-and-price algorithm, in which the pricing problem is a penalized knapsack problem. Computational results are reported for benchmark instances with some hundreds items.  相似文献

This work deals with a new combinatorial optimization problem, the two-dimensional loading capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows which is a realistic extension of the well known vehicle routing problem. The studied problem consists in determining vehicle trips to deliver rectangular objects to a set of customers with known time windows, using a homogeneous fleet of vehicles, while ensuring a feasible loading of each vehicle used. Since it includes NP-hard routing and packing sub-problems, six heuristics are firstly designed to quickly compute good solutions for realistic instances. They are obtained by combining algorithms for the vehicle routing problem with time windows with heuristics for packing rectangles. Then, a Memetic algorithm is developed to improve the heuristic solutions. The quality and the efficiency of the proposed heuristics and metaheuristic are evaluated by adding time windows to a set of 144 instances with 15–255 customers and 15–786 items, designed by Iori et al. (Transport Sci 41:253–264, 2007) for the case without time windows.  相似文献

The supply vessel planning problem is a maritime transportation problem faced by amongst others the energy company Statoil. A set of offshore installations requires supplies from an onshore supply depot on a regular basis, a service performed by a fleet of offshore supply vessels. The problem consists of determining the optimal fleet composition of offshore supply vessels and their corresponding weekly voyages and schedules. We present a voyage-based solution method for the supply vessel planning problem. A computational study shows how the solution method can be used to solve real-life problems. Statoil has implemented a planning tool based on the voyage-based solution method and reports significant savings.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a real-life heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem with time windows and split deliveries that occurs in a major Brazilian retail group. A single depot attends 519 stores of the group distributed in 11 Brazilian states. To find good solutions to this problem, we propose heuristics as initial solutions and a scatter search (SS) approach. Next, the produced solutions are compared with the routes actually covered by the company. Our results show that the total distribution cost can be reduced significantly when such methods are used. Experimental testing with benchmark instances is used to assess the merit of our proposed procedure.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine the two-dimensional variable-sized bin packing problem (2DVSBPP), where the task is to pack all given rectangles into bins of various sizes such that the total area of the used bins is minimized. We partition the search space of the 2DVSBPP into sets and impose an order on the sets, and then use a goal-driven approach to take advantage of the special structure of this partitioned solution space. Since the 2DVSBPP is a generalization of the two-dimensional bin packing problem (2DBPP), our approach can be adapted to the 2DBPP with minimal changes. Computational experiments on the standard benchmark data for both the 2DVSBPP and 2DBPP shows that our approach is more effective than existing approaches in literature.  相似文献

We consider two types of orthogonal, oriented, rectangular, two-dimensional packing problems. The first is the strip packing problem, for which four new and improved level-packing algorithms are presented. Two of these algorithms guarantee a packing that may be disentangled by guillotine cuts. These are combined with a two-stage heuristic designed to find a solution to the variable-sized bin packing problem, where the aim is to pack all items into bins so as to minimise the packing area. This heuristic packs the levels of a solution to the strip packing problem into large bins and then attempts to repack the items in those bins into smaller bins in order to reduce wasted space. The results of the algorithms are compared to those of seven level-packing heuristics from the literature by means of a large number of strip-packing benchmark instances. It is found that the new algorithms are an improvement over known level-packing heuristics for the strip packing problem. The advancements made by the new and improved algorithms are limited in terms of utilised space when applied to the variable-sized bin packing problem. However, they do provide results faster than many existing algorithms.  相似文献

We treat a practical application of packing problems in feeding assembly lines. This study was motivated by a real situation encountered in the shop floor of a major automobile industry plant in Brazil. The assembly line feed problem (LFP) consists in how pack the items in the available containers to meet the line work centers’ requirements with a minimum total cost over the planning horizon. LFP is a variable-sized bin packing problem that has two special features: (i) a cardinality constraint on each bin’s size; and, (ii) a cost structure such that each bin’s cost varies according to the items that are packed in it. We propose an integer programming model and a GRASP heuristic for LFP. Numerical results on real-life test instances are reported.  相似文献

The problem studied in this article arises from the distribution of soft drinks and collection of recyclable containers in a Quebec-based company. It can be modelled as a variant of the vehicle routing problem with a heterogeneous vehicle fleet, time windows, capacity and volume constraints, and an objective function combining routing costs and the revenue resulting from the sale of recyclable material. Three construction heuristics and an improvement procedure are developed for the problem. Comparative tests are performed on a real-life instance and on 10 randomly generated instances.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a mathematical programming approach for coordinating inventory and transportation decisions in an inbound commodity collection system. In particular, we consider a system that consists of a set of geographically dispersed suppliers that manufacture one or more non-identical items, and a central warehouse that stocks these items. The warehouse faces a constant and deterministic demand for the items from outside retailers. The items are collected by a fleet of vehicles that are dispatched from the central warehouse. The vehicles are capacitated, and must also satisfy a frequency constraint. Adopting a policy in which each vehicle always collects the same set of items, we formulate the inventory-routing problem of minimizing the long-run average inventory and transportation costs as a set partitioning problem. We employ a column generation approach to determine a lower bound on the total costs, and develop a branch-and-price algorithm that finds the optimal assignment of items to vehicles. We also propose greedy constructive heuristics, and develop a very large-scale neighborhood (VLSN) search algorithm to find near-optimal solutions for the problem. The multi-dimensional orthogonal packing problem (OPP) is a well studied decisional problem. Given a set of items with rectangular shapes, the problem is to decide whether there is a non-overlapping packing of these items in a rectangular bin. The rotation of items is not allowed. A powerful caracterization of packing configurations by means of interval graphs was recently introduced. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm using consecutive ones matrices as data structure. This new algorithm is then used to solve the two-dimensional orthogonal knapsack problem. Computational results are reported, which show its effectiveness.  相似文献

In this study we deal with the two-dimensional non-guillotine cutting problem of how to cut a set of larger rectangular objects to a set of smaller rectangular items in exactly a demanded number of pieces. We are concerned with the special case of the problem in which the non-used material of the cutting patterns (objects leftovers) may be used in the future, for example if it is large enough to fulfill future item demands. Therefore, the problem is seen as a two-dimensional non-guillotine cutting/packing problem with usable leftovers, also known in the literature as a two-dimensional residual bin-packing problem. We use multilevel mathematical programming models to represent the problem appropriately, which basically consists of cutting the ordered items using a set of objects of minimum cost, among all possible solutions of minimum cost, choosing one that maximizes the value of the usable leftovers, and, among them, selecting one that minimizes the number of usable leftovers. Because of special characteristics of these multilevel models, they can be reformulated as one-level mixed integer programming (MIP) models. This paper presents a literature survey on the fleet size and mix problem in maritime transportation. Fluctuations in the shipping market and frequent mismatches between fleet capacities and demands highlight the relevance of the problem and call for more accurate decision support. After analyzing the available scientific literature on the problem and its variants and extensions, we summarize the state of the art and highlight the main contributions of past research. Furthermore, by identifying important real life aspects of the problem which past research has failed to capture, we uncover the main areas where more research will be needed.  相似文献

This paper studies a real-life multi-attribute profit collecting vehicle routing problem, arising in the collection operations of a charity organisation in the United Kingdom. The problem involves a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles of different capacities, mandatory visits to a subset of vertices, time windows, rest requirements associated with maximum driving and working times, and partial collection. A mixed integer programming formulation of the problem is described, along with three matheuristics based on Tabu Search and Large Neighbourhood Search. Computational results on instances derived from the case study are presented, and insights are given from a practical implementation.  相似文献
