A symmetry problem from probability

We examine solutions of two related boundary value problems for smooth domains in Euclidean space which arise from variational problems in probability. We show that the existence of solutions to each problem implies that the domain is a sphere.

In this paper, a new method of boundary reduction is proposed, which reduces thesteady-state heat transfer equation with radiation. Moreover, a boundary element method is pre-sented for its solution and the error estimates of the numerical approximations are given.

We prove that the solution of a parabolic free boundary problem, arising from a model for some isothermal equimolal non-cathalytic reactions between a fluid and a solid (e.g. oxidization), converges to the solution of the pseudo-steady-state approximation.

A Signorini problem in linear elasticity is reduced to a variational inequality on the boundary, and a boundary element approach is described for the numerical approximation of its solution; an error estimate is also given.     

A BOUNDARY ELEMENT PROCEDURE FOR THE SIGNORINI PROBLEM IN THREE-DIMENSIONAL ELASTICITY

In this paper, a new numerical method for the Signorini problem in three-dimensional elasticity is presented. The problem is reduced to a boundary variational inequality based on a new representation of the derivative of the doublelayer potential. Furthermore, a boundary element procedure is described for the numerical approximation of its solution and an abstract error estimate is given.

Mixed boundary value problems with a shift for a pair of metaanalytic and analytic functions

In this article, we reconsider the mixed boundary value problem on the unit circle for a pair of metaanalytic and analytic functions as in Du and Wang (2008) [9]. By adopting appropriate transformations, we convert the problem into two independent boundary value problems for analytic functions. We then obtain expressions of solution and condition of solvability for the mixed boundary value problem. The forms of the solutions and the condition of solvability here are rather dissimilar to those in Du and Wang (2008) [9]. But the equivalence is established at the end of this article.

A boundary integral formulation of the Stefan problem

This paper considers a boundary integral formulation of the Stefan problem for two spatial dimensions. This formulation has the advantage that its numerical implementation does not require the discretization of the Stefan condition. Furthermore, the formulation is capable of solving problems with complex boundaries. Several illustrative examples are given.     

ON SOLVABILITY OF A BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM FOR A NONHOMOGENEOUS BIHARMONIC EQUATION WITH A BOUNDARY OPERATOR OF A FRACTIONAL ORDER

This paper is concerned with the solvability of a boundary value problem for a nonhomogeneous biharmonic equation. The boundary data is determined by a differential operator of fractional order in the Riemann-Liouville sense. The considered problem is a generalization of the known Dirichlet and Neumann problems.     

A heat approximation

The Fourier problem on planar domains with time variable boundary is considered using integral equations. A simple numerical method for the integral equation is described and the convergence of the method is proved. It is shown how to approximate the solution of the Fourier problem and how to estimate the error. A numerical example is given.
