We say that a class 𝒫 of right modules over a fixed ring R is an epic class if it is closed under homomorphic images. For an arbitrary epic class 𝒫, we define a 𝒫-dimension of modules that measures how far modules are from the modules in the class 𝒫. For an epic class 𝒫 consisting of indecomposable modules, first we characterize rings whose modules have 𝒫-dimension. In fact, we show that every right R-module has 𝒫-dimension if and only if R is a semisimple Artinan ring. Then we study fully Hopfian modules with 𝒫-dimension. In particular, we show that a commutative ring R with 𝒫-dimension (resp. finite 𝒫-dimension) is either local or Noetherian (resp. Artinian). Finally, we show that Matm(R) is a right Köthe ring for some m if and only if every (left) right module is a direct sum of modules of 𝒫-dimension at most n for some n, if and only if R is a pure semisimple ring.  相似文献

Let R be a commutative local ring. It is proved that R is Henselian if and only if each R-algebra which is a direct limit of module finite R-algebras is strongly clean. So, the matrix ring 𝕄 n (R) is strongly clean for each integer n > 0 if R is Henselian and we show that the converse holds if either the residue class field of R is algebraically closed or R is an integrally closed domain or R is a valuation ring. It is also shown that each R-algebra which is locally a direct limit of module-finite algebras, is strongly clean if R is a π-regular commutative ring.  相似文献

Let K be a commutative ring with unity, R a prime K-algebra of characteristic different from 2, U the right Utumi quotient ring of R, f(x 1,…, x n ) a noncentral multilinear polynomial over K, and G a nonzero generalized derivation of R. Denote f(R) the set of all evaluations of the polynomial f(x 1,…, x n ) in R. If [G(u)u, G(v)v] = 0, for any u, v ∈ f(R), we prove that there exists c ∈ U such that G(x) = cx, for all x ∈ R and one of the following holds: 1. f(x 1,…, x n )2 is central valued on R;

2. R satisfies s 4, the standard identity of degree 4.

A ring R is quasipolar if for any a ∈ R, there exists p 2 = p ∈ R such that p ∈ comm2(a), p + a ∈ U(R) and ap ∈ R qnil . In this article, we determine when a 2 × 2 matrix over a commutative local ring is quasipolar. A criterion in terms of solvability of the characteristic equation is obtained for such a matrix to be quasipolar. Consequently, we obtain several equivalent conditions for the 2 × 2 matrix ring over a commutative local ring to be quasipolar. Furthermore, it is shown that the 2 × 2 matrix ring over the ring of p-adic integers is quasipolar.  相似文献

Let R be a prime ring with center Z, L a noncentral Lie ideal of R, and σ a nontrivial automorphism of R such that [u σ,u] n  ∈ Z for all u ∈ L. If either char(R) > n or char(R) = 0, then R satisfies s 4, the standard identity in 4 variables.  相似文献

Abstract

Let (R, 𝔪) be a Noetherian local ring and let Ibe an R-ideal. Inspired by the work of Hübl and Huneke, we look for conditions that guarantee the Cohen-Macaulayness of the special fiber ring ? = ?/𝔪? of I, where ? denotes the Rees algebra of I. Our key idea is to require ‘good’ intersection properties as well as ‘few’ homogeneous generating relations in low degrees. In particular, if Iis a strongly Cohen-Macaulay R-ideal with G ?and the expected reduction number, we conclude that ? is always Cohen-Macaulay. We also obtain a characterization of the Cohen-Macaulayness of ?/K? for any 𝔪-primary ideal K. This result recovers a well-known criterion of Valabrega and Valla whenever K = I. Furthermore, we study the relationship between the Cohen-Macaulay property of the special fiber ring ? and the Cohen-Macaulay property of the Rees algebra ? and the associated graded ring 𝒢 of I. Finally, we focus on the integral closedness of 𝔪I. The latter question is motivated by the theory of evolutions.  相似文献

Summary Let M be a left R-module. Then a proper submodule P of M is called weakly prime submodule if for any ideals A and B of R and any submodule N of M such that ABN P, we have AN P or BN P. We define weakly prime radicals of modules and show that for Ore domains, the study of weakly prime radicals of general modules reduces to that of torsion modules. We determine the weakly prime radical of any module over a commutative domain R with dim (R) ≦ 1. Also, we show that over a commutative domain R with dim (R) ≦ 1, every semiprime submodule of any module is an intersection of weakly prime submodules. Localization of a module over a commutative ring preserves the weakly prime property. An R-module M is called semi-compatible if every weakly prime submodule of M is an intersection of prime submodules. Also, a ring R is called semi-compatible if every R-module is semi-compatible. It is shown that any projective module over a commutative ring is semi-compatible and that a commutative Noetherian ring R is semi-compatible if and only if for every prime ideal B of R, the ring R/\B is a Dedekind domain. Finally, we show that if R is a UFD such that the free R-module RR is a semi-compatible module, then R is a Bezout domain.  相似文献

Many results on going-down domains and divided domains are generalized to the context of rings with von Neumann regular total quotient rings. A (commutative unital) ring R is called regular divided if each P ∈ Spec(R)?(Max(R) ∩ Min(R)) is comparable with each principal regular ideal of R. Among rings having von Neumann regular total quotient rings, the regular divided rings are the pullbacks K× K/P D where K is von Neumann regular, P ∈ Spec(K) and D is a divided domain. Any regular divided ring (for instance, regular comparable ring) with a von Neumann regular total quotient ring is a weak Baer going-down ring. If R is a weak Baer going-down ring and T is an extension ring with a von Neumann regular total quotient ring such that no regular element of R becomes a zero-divisor in T, then R ? T satisfies going-down. If R is a weak Baer ring and P ∈ Spec(R), then R + PR (P) is a going-down ring if and only if R/P and R P are going-down rings. The weak Baer going-down rings R such that Spec(R)?Min(R) has a unique maximal element are characterized in terms of the existence of suitable regular divided overrings.  相似文献

Straight Rings
A (commutative integral) domain is called a straight domain if A ? B is a prime morphism for each overring B of A; a (commutative unital) ring A is called a straight ring if A/P is a straight domain for all P ∈ Spec(A). A domain is a straight ring if and only if it is a straight domain. The class of straight rings sits properly between the class of locally divided rings and the class of going-down rings. An example is given of a two-dimensional going-down domain that is not a straight domain. The classes of straight rings, of locally divided rings, and of going-down rings coincide within the universe of seminormal weak Baer rings (for instance, seminormal domains). The class of straight rings is stable under formation of homomorphic images, rings of fractions, and direct limits. The “straight domain" property passes between domains having the same prime spectrum. Straight domains are characterized within the universe of conducive domains. If A is a domain with a nonzero ideal I and quotient field K, characterizations are given for A ? (I: K I) to be a prime morphism. If A is a domain and P ∈ Spec(A) such that A P is a valuation domain, then the CPI-extension C(P) := A + PA P is a straight domain if and only if A/P is a straight domain. If A is a going-down domain and P ∈ Spec(A), characterizations are given for A ? C(P) to be a prime morphism. Consequences include divided domain-like behavior of arbitrary straight domains.  相似文献

Let R be a prime ring, with no nonzero nil right ideal, Q the two-sided Martindale quotient ring of R, F a generalized derivation of R, L a noncommutative Lie ideal of R, and b ∈ Q. If, for any u, w ∈ L, there exists n = n(u, w) ≥1 such that (F(uw) ? bwu)n = 0, then one of the following statements holds:
  1. F = 0 and b = 0;

  2. R ? M2(K), the ring of 2 × 2 matrices over a field K, b2 = 0, and F(x) = ?bx, for all x ∈ R.

ABSTRACT

A (unital) extension R ? T of (commutative) rings is said to have FIP (respectively be a minimal extension) if there are only finitely many (respectively no) rings S such that R ? S ? T. Transfer results for the FIP property for extensions of Nagata rings are obtained, including the following fact: if R ? T is a (module-) finite minimal ring extension, then R(X)?T(X) also is a (module-) finite minimal ring extension. The assertion obtained by replacing “is a (module-) finite minimal ring extension” with “has FIP” is valid if R is an infinite field but invalid if R is a finite field. A generalization of the Primitive Element Theorem is obtained by characterizing, for any field (more generally, any artinian reduced ring) R, the ring extensions R ? T which have FIP; and, if R is any field K, by describing all possible structures of the (necessarily minimal) ring extensions appearing in any maximal chain of intermediate rings between K and any such T. Transfer of the FIP and “minimal extension” properties is given for certain pullbacks, with applications to constructions such as CPI-extensions. Various sufficient conditions are given for a ring extension of the form R ? R[u], with u a nilpotent element, to have or not have FIP. One such result states that if R is a residually finite integral domain that is not a field and u is a nilpotent element belonging to some ring extension of R, then R ? R[u] has FIP if and only if (0 : u) ≠ 0. The rings R having only finitely many unital subrings are studied, with complete characterizations being obtained in the following cases: char(R)>0; R an integral domain of characteristic 0; and R a (module-)finite extension of ? which is not an integral domain. In particular, a ring of the last-mentioned type has only finitely many unital subrings if and only if (?:R)≠0. Some results are also given for the residually FIP property.  相似文献

Let R be an associative ring with identity. An element a ∈ R is called strongly clean if a = e + u with e 2 = e ∈ R, u a unit of R, and eu = ue. A ring R is called strongly clean if every element of R is strongly clean. Strongly clean rings were introduced by Nicholson [7 Nicholson , W. K. ( 1999 ). Strongly clean rings and Fitting's lemma . Comm. Algebra 27 : 35833592 .[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]]. It is unknown yet when a matrix ring over a strongly clean ring is strongly clean. Several articles discussed this topic when R is local or strongly π-regular. In this note, necessary conditions for the matrix ring 𝕄 n (R) (n > 1) over an arbitrary ring R to be strongly clean are given, and the strongly clean property of 𝕄2(RC 2) over the group ring RC 2 with R local is obtained.  相似文献

Let F = ?x, y? be a free group. It is known that the commutator [x, y ?1] cannot be expressed in terms of basic commutators, in particular in terms of Engel commutators. We show that the laws imposing such an expression define specific varietal properties. For a property 𝒫 we consider a subset U(𝒫) ? F such that every law of the form [x, y ?1] ≡ u, u ∈ U(𝒫) provides the varietal property 𝒫. For example, we show that each subnormal subgroup is normal in every group of a variety 𝔙 if and only if 𝔙 satisfies a law of the form [x, y ?1] ≡ u, where u ∈ [F′, ?x?].  相似文献
