Exceptional Functions and Normality   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Yang proved in [10] that if f and f(k) have no fix-points forevery fF, where F is a family of meromorphic functions in adomain G and k a fixed integer, then F is normal in G. In thispaper we prove normality for families F for which every fF omits1 and f(k) omits 2, where 1 and 2 are analytic functions with. 1991 Mathematics SubjectClassification 30D35, 30D45.  相似文献

In this paper, the space A (D)is considered, consisting of thoseholomorphic functions f on the unit disk D such that || f ||= supz D | f(z)|(|z|) < +, with (1) = 0. The sampling problemis studied for weights satisfying ln (r)/ln(1 – r) 0.Möbius stability of sampling is shown to fail in this space.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 30H05 (primary), 30D60(secondary).  相似文献

We give an explicit example of an exotic (non-simplicial), geometricfree action of the free group F3 on an R-tree T. We begin byassociating an interval translation mapping of the unit intervalto an automorphism of F3. We use a result of D. Gaboriau andG. Levitt to obtain an F3-action on an R-tree T. We show thatfor our particular choice of , the resulting F3-action is minimal, free and exotic. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification 20E36.  相似文献

The Jackson integral of type BCn is a multiple generalizationof a very-well-poised-balanced 2r2r basic hypergeometric series.Based on this fact, a multiple analogue of Slater's transformationformula for the 2r2r series is presented herein. The proposedformula also provides an extension of Gustafson's multiple 66summation formula of type Cn.  相似文献

The nonlinear nonlocal system of the equilibrium equations ofan elastic ring under the action of an external two-dimensionaluniformly subsonic potential barotropic steady-state gas flowis considered. The configurations of the elastic ring are identifiedby a pair of functions (, ). The simple curve represents theshape of the ring and the real-valued function identifies theorientation of the material sections of the ring. The pressurefield on the ring depends nonlocally on , and on two parametersU and P which represent the pressure and the velocity at infinity. The system is shown to be equivalent to a fixed-point problem, which is then treated with continuation methods. It is shownthat the solution branch ensuing from certain equilibrium states((0, 0), 0, P0) in the solution-parameter space of ((0, 0),0, P0) either approaches the boundary of the admissible ((,), U,p)'s in a well-defined sense, or is unbounded, or is homotopicallynontrivial in the sense that there exists a continuous map from the branch to a two-dimensional sphere which is not homotopicin the sphere to a constant, while restricted to the branchminus ((0, 0), 0, P0) is homotopic to a constant in the sphere.Furthermore, by fixing the pressure parameter at P0 and by consideringthe one-parameter problem in ((, ), U), the following holds.Every hyperplane in the solution-parameter space of the ((,), U)'s which contains the equilibrium state ((0, 0), 0) anddoes not include a welldetermined one-dimensional subspace intersectsthe solution branch above at a point different from ((0, 0),0).  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we use resultson Jacobi fields to study the stochastic differential equations(SDEs) for expXt( expXt-1(Yt)) with specially constructed coupledsemimartingales X and Y on a complete, simply connected Riemannianmanifold M with constant sectional curvature. Secondly, we applythese SDEs to obtain an analogue for M of a result of Borellconcerning an inequality relating the solutions of the parabolicequation / t = 1/2 – h, with Dirichlet boundary condition,on three convex sets in Euclidean space. From the latter, therefollows an inequality involving the first eigenvalues of theLaplacian on those convex sets with the Dirichlet boundary condition, analogous to an inequality in Euclidean space which is equivalentto the Brunn–Minkowski inequality of these eigenvaluesobtained by Brascamp and Lieb.  相似文献

The decay of the eddy-currents that are induced in a thin, uniform,imperfectly-conducting sheet by switching off the source ofan external magnetic field is investigated. For the two-dimensionalproblem of an infinite strip the (non-dimensional) decay constantsn and eddy-current distributions in(x) are the eigenvalues andeigenfunctions of the integral equation with the constraint. For the circular disc the corresponding equation is where and K and E are complete elliptic integrals. For both problemsthe initial eddy-currents have inverse-square-root singularitiesat the edges but during their decay the eddy currents are finiteat the edges and the normal magnetic fields have logarithmicsingularities there. Numerical results are given for variousinitial-value problems. The eddy current problems are closely related to water-waveproblems in which there is a strip-shaped or circular aperturein a horizontal rigid dock. If n and n are the decay constantsand magnetic scalar potentials for the strip and n and n theangular frequencies and velocity potentials for the normal modesin the strip-shaped aperture, then n =n2 and n and n are thereal and imaginary parts respectively of a holomorphic function. The velocities in the normal modes are deduced from the solutionof the eddy-current problem and are found to agree with resultsgiven in Miles (1972). For circular geometries the eigenvaluesand eigenfunctions of the axisymmetric eddy-current problemare the same as those of the water-wave problem that has angularvariation ei; where (, , z) are cylindrical polar co-ordinateslocated at the centre of the basin.  相似文献

The autonomous differential equations for the temperature andreactant consumption in a first-order well-stirred exothermicreaction are considered. An examination of the phase-plane solutionsallows the qualitative behaviour of the Semenov number as afunction of maximum temperature rise * to be established. Inthe limit of infinite adiabatic temperature rise (B) and zeroactivation energy parameter ( = 0), the relationship between and stationary temperature s is known to be e1 = s. Criticalityarises at the maximum of (s) and leads to the critical Semenovvalues (s)cr = 1, cr = e–1. For sufficiently large B,it is shown that the (*) curve has a bifurcation at * = 1, withthe upper branch monotonically increasing and the lower branchmonotonically decreasing for * > 1. In the limit B thesebecome respectively the straight line = e–1, s 1 andthe unstable branch of = se–1, s 1 and the unstablebranch of = s e. Criticality for finite B is definedas occurring at the bifurcation, namely *cr = 1, with cr(B)the value of at this point. Values of these Semenoy numbersare obtainable from the numerical calculations of Boddingtonet al. [Proc. R. Soc. Lond. (1983), 390, 13–30]. The newcriterion is applied to an approximate phase-plane solution. The corresponding critical parameter is found to be cr = e–1[1+B(2–e–1)+O(B–1)].  相似文献

Generalizations of Ramanujan's reciprocity theorem and their applications   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
First, we briefly survey Ramanujan's reciprocity theorem fora certain q-series related to partial theta functions and givea new proof of the theorem. Next, we derive generalizationsof the reciprocity theorem that are also generalizations ofthe 11 summation formula and Jacobi triple product identityand show that these reciprocity theorems lead to generalizationsof the quintuple product identity, as well. Last, we presentsome applications of the generalized reciprocity theorems andproduct identities, including new representations for generatingfunctions for sums of six squares and those for overpartitions.  相似文献

Hausdorff Dimension and Generalized Simultaneous Diophantine Approximation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Suppose that m is a positive integer, is a vector of strictly positive numbers, and Qis an infinite set of positive integers. Let WQ(m; ) be theset [formula] In this paper we obtain the Hausdorff dimension of this set.We also consider a generalization of the set WQ(m; ), wherethe error terms in the inequalities are replaced by i(q), for general functions i satisfying a certaincondition at infinity. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification11J83, 28A78.  相似文献

This article introduces the notion of 2-ruled 4-folds: submanifoldsof Rn fibred over a 2-fold by affine 2-planes. This is motivatedby a paper by Joyce and previous work of the present author.A 2-ruled 4-fold M is r-framed if an oriented basis is smoothlyassigned to each fibre, and then we may write M in terms oforthogonal smooth maps 1,2 : Sn–1 and a smooth map : Rn. We focus on 2-ruled Cayley 4-folds in R8 as certainother calibrated 4-folds in R7 and R8 can be considered as specialcases. The main result characterizes non-planar, r-framed, 2-ruledCayley 4-folds, using a coupled system of nonlinear, first-order,partial differential equations that 1 and 2 satisfy, and anothersuch equation on which is linear in . We give a means of constructing2-ruled Cayley 4-folds starting from particular 2-ruled Cayleycones using holomorphic vector fields. This is used to giveexplicit examples of U(1)-invariant 2-ruled Cayley 4-folds asymptoticto a U(1)3-invariant 2-ruled Cayley cone. Examples are alsogiven based on ruled calibrated 3-folds in C3 and R7 and complexcones in C4.  相似文献

Grothendieck's Inequalities for Real and Complex JBW*-Triples   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We prove that, if and >0, if V and W are complex JBW*-triples (with preduals V* andW*, respectively), and if U is a separately weak*-continuousbilinear form on V x W, then there exist norm-one functionals1, 2 V* and 1, 2 W* satisfying for all (x, y) V x W. Here, for a norm-one functional on acomplex JB*-triple V, |·| stands for the prehilbertianseminorm on V associated to given by for all x W, where z V** satisfies z = |z| =1. We arrive at this form of ‘Grothendieck's inequality’through results of C.-H. Chu, B. Iochum, and G. Loupias, andan amended version of the ‘little Grothendieck's inequality’for complex JB*-triples due to T. Barton and Y. Friedman. Wealso obtain extensions of these results to the setting of realJB*-triples. 2000 Mathematical Subject Classification: 17C65,46K70, 46L05, 46L10, 46L70.  相似文献

Optimal order H1 and L error bounds are obtained for a continuouspiecewise linear finite element approximation of an obstacleproblem, where the obstacle's height as well as the contactzone, c, are a priori unknown. The problem models the indentationof a membrane by a rigid punch. For R2, given ,g R+ and an obstacle defined over E we consider the minimization of |v|21,+over (v, µ) H10() x R subject to v+µ on E. In additionwe show under certain nondegeneracy conditions that dist (c,hc)Ch ln 1/h, where hc is the finite element approximation toc. Finally we show that the resulting algebraic problem canbe solved using a projected SOR algorithm.  相似文献

Spatial concavity properties of non-negative weak solutionsof the filtration equations with absorption ut = ((u))xx–(u)in Q = Rx(0, ), '0, 0 are studied. Under certain assumptionson the coefficients , it is proved that concavity of the pressurefunction is a consequence of a ‘weak’ convexityof travelling-wave solutions of the form V(x, t) = (xt+a).It is established that the global structure of a so-called properset B = {V} of such particular solutions determines a propertyof B-concavity for more general solutions which is preservedin time. For the filtration equation ut = ((u))xx a semiconcavityestimate for the pressure, vxx(t+)–1'(), due to the B-concavityof the solution to the subset B of the explicit self-similarsolutions (x/t+)) is proved. The analysis is based on the intersection comparison based onthe Sturmian argument of the general solution u(x, t) with subsetsB of particular solutions. Also studied are other aspects ofthe B-concavity/convexity with respect to different subsetsof explicit solutions.  相似文献

Decomposition of weighted Triebel-Lizorkin and Besov spaces on the ball   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Weighted Triebel–Lizorkin and Besov spaces on the unitball Bd in d with weights wµ(x)=(1–|x|2)µ–1/2,µ0, are introduced and explored. A decomposition schemeis developed in terms of almost exponentially localized polynomialelements (needlets) {}, {} and it is shown that the membershipof a distribution to the weighted Triebel–Lizorkin orBesov spaces can be determined by the size of the needlet coefficients{f, } in appropriate sequence spaces.  相似文献

We seek the smallest or largest cardinals for which certainbasic results hold, as did Mazur when he proved that c is thesmallest infinite-dimensionality for a Fréchet space. As with Mazur, we make no axiomatic assumptions outside theusual ZFC model. We discover three instances in which the optimalcardinal is the dominating number and three in which it isthe bounding number b, apparently giving the first locally convexspace characterizations of these venerable and easily describedcardinals. Here are two samples: it is known that for any non-normablemetrizable locally convex space E, the minimal size b(E) fora fundamental system of bounded sets must satisfy 1 b(E) c;we prove that b(E) = . Again, it is known that if E is a non-normablemetrizable barrelled space of minimal dimension, then 1 dim(E) c; we prove that dim(E) = b. The most important individualresult is the reconstruction of Tweddle's space without useof the Continuum Hypothesis (1 = c). The reconstruction is vitalin the characterizations of b and in subsequent papers answeringopen questions about countable enlargements.  相似文献

We characterize the minimal isometric dilation of a non-commutativecontractive sequence of operators as a universal object forcertain diagrams of completely positive maps. A non-spatialconstruction of the minimal isometric dilation is also given, using Hilbert modules over C*-algebras. It is shown that the non-commutative disc algebras An (n2) arethe universal algebras generated by contractive sequences ofoperators and the identity, and C*(S1, ..., Sn) (n2), the extensionthrough compact operators of the Cuntz algebra On, is the universalC*-algebra generated by a contractive sequence of isometries. It is also shown that the algebras An and C*(S1, ..., Sn) arecompletely isometrically isomorphic to some free operator algebrasconsidered by D. Blecher. In particular, the universal operatoralgebra of a row (respectively column) contraction is identifiedwith a subalgebra of C*(S1, ..., Sn). The internal characterizationof the matrix norm on a universal algebra leads to some factorizationtheorems.  相似文献

Let (n) denote the Fourier coefficients of cusp forms or thenumber of divisors of n. Estimates of the type are shown, uniformly in q X. The methods canbe extended to other arithmetic functions, for example, thenumber of representations of n as a sum of two squares or k-freenumbers. As an application, sums of the type n X(n) (n) forany q-periodic function can be estimated non-trivially.

Recent studies on right ideals of the first Weyl algebra A1(k)over an algebraic closed field k with characteristic zero showthat: for each right ideal I 0 of A1(k), there exist x Q =fracA1(k)) and a primary decomposable sub-space V of k[t] suchthat I=xD(R,V), where D(R,V) : = {d A1(k)/d(R) V} is a rightideal of A1(k). In this paper, we show that for all right idealsI 0 of A1(k), !n N, (x, ) Q* x Autk(A1(k)) : I = x(D(R, O(Xn))),where Xn denotes the affine algebraic curve with ring of regularfunctions O(Xn=k+tn+1k[t]. With ideals as described above, onecan easily see, under a hypothesis given by Letzter and Makar-Limanov,that for two affine algebraic curves X and X', D(X)D(X') codim D(X) = co dim D(X'). 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification16S32.  相似文献
