The dynamics of a Nicholson's blowflies equation with a finite delay are investigated. We prove that a sequence of Hopf bifurcations occur at the positive equilibrium as the delay increases. Explicit algorithm for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are derived, using the theory of normal form and center manifold. Global existence of periodic solutions are established using a global Hopf bifurcation result of Wu (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 350 (1998) 4799), and a Bendixson criterion for higher dimensional ordinary differential equations due to Li and Muldowney (J. Differential Equations 106 (1994) 27).  相似文献

In this paper a system of three delay differential equations representing a Hopfield type general model for three neurons with two-way (bidirectional) time delayed connections between the neurons and time delayed self-connection from each neuron to itself is studied. Delay independent and delay dependent sufficient conditions for linear stability, instability and the occurrence of a Hopf bifurcation about the trivial equilibrium are addressed. The partition of the resulting parametric space into regions of stability, instability, and Hopf bifurcation in the absence of self-connection is realized. To extend the local Hopf branches for large delay values a particular bidirectional delayed tri-neuron model without self-connection is investigated. Sufficient conditions for global existence of multiple non-constant periodic solutions are obtained for such a model using the global Hopf-bifurcation theorem for functional differential equations due to J. Wu and the Bendixson criterion for higher dimensional ordinary differential equations due to Li and Muldowney, and following the approach developed by Wei and Li.  相似文献

A neural network model with three neurons and a single delay is considered. The existence of local Hopf bifurcations is first considered and then explicit formulas are derived by using the normal form method and center manifold theory to determine the direction of the Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions. A global Hopf bifurcation theorem due to Wu and a Bendixson's criterion for high-dimensional ODE due to Li and Muldowney are used to obtain a group of conditions for the system to have multiple periodic solutions when the delay is sufficiently large. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to support the theoretical analysis of the research.  相似文献

We consider the synchronized periodic oscillation in a ring neural network model with two different delays in self-connection and nearest neighbor coupling. Employing the center manifold theorem and normal form method introduced by Hassard et al., we give an algorithm for determining the Hopf bifurcation properties. Using the global Hopf bifurcation theorem for FDE due to Wu and Bendixson's criterion for high-dimensional ODE due to Li and Muldowney, we obtain several groups of conditions that guarantee the model have multiple synchronized periodic solutions when the transfer coefficient or time delay is sufficiently large.  相似文献

A simple neural network model with two delays is considered. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, it is found that Hopf bifurcation occurs when the sum of two delays passes through a sequence of critical values. Using a global Hopf bifurcation theorem for FDE due to Wu [Wu J. Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory. Trans Amer Math Soc 1998;350:4799–838], a group of sufficient conditions for this model to have multiple periodic solutions are obtained when the sum of delays is sufficiently large. A three-species food chain model is proposed with dynamically variable adaptive traits in the intermediate consumer. We prove that its solutions are non-negative and bounded, and we analyze the existence and stability of its equilibria. By applying Li and Muldowney’s [Li MY, Muldowney J. On Bendixson’s criterion. J Differ Equ 1993;106:27–39] high-dimensional Bendixson criterion, we show that the positive equilibrium is globally stable under specific conditions. A n-coupled BVP oscillators system with delays is considered. By choosing the delays as the bifurcating parameters, some results of the Hopf bifurcations occurring at the zero equilibrium as the delays increase are exhibited. Using the symmetric functional differential equation theories of Wu [Jianhong Wu, Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 350 (12) (1998) 4799–4838], the multiple Hopf bifurcations are obtained, and their spatio-temporal patterns: mirror-reflecting waves, standing waves, and discrete waves are demonstrated. This paper is concerned with a predator–prey system with Holling II functional response and hunting delay and gestation. By regarding the sum of delays as the bifurcation parameter, the local stability of the positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are investigated. We obtained explicit formulas to determine the properties of Hopf bifurcation by using the normal form method and center manifold theorem. Special attention is paid to the global continuation of local Hopf bifurcation. Using a global Hopf bifurcation result of Wu [Wu JH. Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans Amer Math Soc 1998;350:4799–4838] for functional differential equations, we may show the global existence of the periodic solutions. In this paper, a predator-prey system with two delays is investigated. By choosing the sum τ of two delays as a bifurcation parameter, we show that Hopf bifurcations can occur as τ crosses some critical values. By deriving the equation describing the flow on the center manifold, we can determine the direction of the Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions. In addition, special attention is paid to the global continuation of local Hopf bifurcations. Using a global Hopf bifurcation result of [J. Wu, Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 350 (1998) 4799-4838], we may show the global existence of periodic solutions.  相似文献

A simple moving mesh method is proposed for solving phase-field equations. The numerical strategy is based on the approach proposed in Li et al. [J. Comput. Phys. 170 (2001) 562–588] to separate the mesh-moving and PDE evolution. The phase-field equations are discretized by a finite-volume method, and the mesh-moving part is realized by solving the conventional Euler–Lagrange equations with the standard gradient-based monitors. Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a more general criterion for the global asymptotic stability of equilibria for nonlinear autonomous differential equations based on the geometric criterion developed by Li and Muldowney. By applying this criterion, we obtain some results for the global asymptotic stability of SEIRS models with constant recruitment and varying total population size. Based on these results, we give a complete affirmative answer to Liu–Hethcote–Levin conjecture. Furthermore, an affirmative answer to Li–Graef–Wang–Karsai’s problem for SEIR model with permanent immunity and varying total population size is given.  相似文献

By using the generalized f-projection operator, the existence theorem of solutions for the general implicit variational inequality GIVI(T-ξ,K) is proved without assuming the monotonicity of operators in reflexive and smooth Banach space. An iterative algorithm for approximating solution of the general implicit variational inequality is suggested also, and the convergence for this iterative scheme is shown. These theorems extend the corresponding results of Wu and Huang [K.Q. Wu, N.J. Huang, Comput. Math. Appl. 54 (2007) 399–406], Wu and Huang [K.Q. Wu, N.J. Huang, Bull. Austral. Math. The aim of this paper is to outline a formal framework for the analytical analysis of the Hopf bifurcations in the delay differential equations with two independent time delays. Some results for the differential-difference equations with two delays, when the both of the coefficients of linearized equation are negative were obtained in [X. Li, S. Ruan, J. Wei, Stability and bifurcation in delay-differential equations with two delays, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 236 (1999) 254-280]. In the paper we present some remarks on the case studied in [X. Li, S. Ruan, J. Wei, Stability and bifurcation in delay-differential equations with two delays, J. Math. Anal. In this paper, we first transform the semi-infinite programming problem into the KKT system by the techniques in [D.H. Li, L. Qi, J. Tam, S.Y. Wu, A smoothing Newton method for semi-infinite programming, J. Global. Optim. 30 (2004) 169–194; L. Qi, S.Y. Wu, G.L. Zhou, Semismooth Newton methods for solving semi-infinite programming problems, J. Global. Optim. 27 (2003) 215–232]. Then a nonsmooth and inexact Levenberg–Marquardt method is proposed for solving this KKT system based on [H. Dan, N. Yamashita, M. Fukushima, Convergence properties of the inexact Levenberg–Marquardt method under local error bound conditions, Optimim. Methods Softw., 11 (2002) 605–626]. This method is globally and superlinearly (even quadratically) convergent. Finally, some numerical results are given.  相似文献
