Although the time variation of the conditional correlations of asset returns is a well established stylized fact (and of crucial importance for efficient financial decisions) there is no explicit general model available for its estimation and forecasting. In this paper, we propose a bivariate GARCH covariance structure in which conditional variances can follow any GARCH-type process, while conditional correlation is generated by an explicit discrete-time stochastic process, the CorrARCH process. A high order CorrARCH can parsimoniously be represented by a CorGARCH process. The model successfully generates the reported stylized facts, establishes an autocorrelation structure for correlations and thus provides an explicit framework for out-of-sample forecasting. We provide empirical evidence from the G7 Stock Market Indexes.  相似文献

基于混合密度网络模型估计金融时间序列的时变条件密件,提出数值模拟方法计算ExpectedShortfall。对香港恒生指数的实证研究表明,混合密度网络可以有效地描述收益的经验分布统计特征和波动规律,模型评估指标反映出预测效果良好,Value-at-R isk的预测精度在高端分位点表现较好,且可有效计算Expected shortfall指标,是金融市场风险测量的有效方法。  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we study the stochastic alpha beta rho with mean reversion model (SABR-MR). We first compare the SABR model with the SABR-MR model in terms of future volatility to point out the fundamental difference in the models’ dynamics. We then derive an efficient probabilistic approximation for the SABR-MR model to price European options. Similar to the method derived in Kennedy, J. E., Mitra, S., & Pham, D. (2012). On the approximation of the SABR model: A probabilistic approach. Applied Mathematical Finance, 19(6), 553–586., we focus on capturing the terminal distribution of the underlying asset (conditional on the terminal volatility) to arrive at the implied volatilities of the corresponding European options for all strikes and maturities. Our resulting method allows us to work with a wide range of parameters that cover the long-dated option and different market conditions.  相似文献

相关性的讨论是现代金融分析的重要内容,行业板块的相关分析是组合投资的关键步骤。基于能刻画动态相关的DCC-MVGARCH模型对我国波动剧烈的六个股市行业板块进行了相关性研究,结果表明:十个板块相关性序列可看成常量,Pearson相关系数仍能刻画其相对大小,这为机构投资者按Pearson相关系数进行组合构建提供了实证依据;五个动态相关性序列是宽平稳而非严平稳的,适合采用随机过程建模以实现预测,另外动态相关性与时变波动率存在一定的关系,当波动率增强时,相关性有随之增大的趋势。  相似文献

金融高频数据的已实现波动(RV)在风险管理中扮演着非常重要的角色,已有大量文献对如何预测资产的已实现波动进行了研究.采用因子分析法来预测RV,探讨了不可观测的金融序列的公共因子在预测已实现波动时所起的作用,并考虑了资产价格中跳跃的影响,建立了基于因子分析法的波动预测模型(F-RV-J).从损失函数、MCS检验和在险价值VaR的预测能力三个方面,将F-RV-J模型与其它常用的预测模型进行了比较,发现F-RV-J模型明显要优于其它波动预测模型.  相似文献

Optimal asset allocation well-fitting investors’ goals is a pressing challenge in risk management. Making a step forward to the Sharpe ratio, the parameter-dependent Sortino–Satchell, Generalized Rachev and Farinelli–Tibiletti performance ratios are suggested for personalizing asset allocation. Tailor-made optimal asset paths for five different investor risk profiles are traced over a rolling 12 month investing horizon. Our simulations show a satisfactorily good match between asset allocation and correspondent risk profile. Specifically, Generalized Rachev ratios outperform in personalized allocation for “extreme” risk profiles, i.e. conservative and aggressive investors, whereas Sortino–Satchell and Farinelli–Tibiletti ratios for those that are more moderate. Sharpe ratio confirms its ability in constructing steady-diversified portfolios, although underperformed.  相似文献

Volatility and dependence structure are two main sources of uncertainty in many economic issues, such as exchange rates, future prices and agricultural product prices etc. who fully embody uncertainty among relationship and variation. This paper aims at estimating the dependency between the percentage changes of the agricultural price and agricultural production indices of Thailand and also their conditional volatilities using copula-based GARCH models. The motivation of this paper is twofold. First, the strategic department of agriculture of Thailand would like to have reliable empirical models for the dependency and volatilities for use in policy strategy. Second, this paper provides less restrictive models for dependency and the conditional volatility GARCH. The copula-based multivariate analysis used in this paper nested the traditional multivariate as a special case (Tae-Hwy and Xiangdong, 2009) [13]. Appropriate marginal distributions for both, the percentage changes of the agricultural price and agricultural production indices were selected for their estimation. Static as well as time varying copulas were estimated. The empirical results were found that the suitable margins were skew t distribution and the time varying copula i.e., the time varying rotate Joe copula (270°) was the choice for the policy makers to follow. The one-period ahead forecasted-growth rate of agricultural price index conditional on growth rate of agricultural production index was also provided as an example of forecasting it using the resulted margins and time-varying copula based GARCH model.  相似文献

In finance, the explicit modelling of uncertainty takes on a particularly important role. The values of financial derivatives increase in the return volatility of the underlying security. This notion requires a concept of volatility and hence uncertainty. In addition, the choice between modelling in discrete and continuous time is not arbitrary, since it corresponds to a distinction between incomplete and complete markets, respectively, and this distinction matters for asset pricing, financial risk modelling, and inference. Risk and volatility are closely connected, and implied volatility, volatility forecasting, volatility in term structure models, stochastic volatility, and portfolio analysis are considered and related to a more general interplay between cross-sectional and dynamic aspects in finance. Stocks, bonds, and options are considered and placed in the context of efficiency and separation in inference.  相似文献

基于非参数统计方法,利用考虑金融资产价格跳跃和杠杆效应的时点波动估计方法修正已实现阈值幂变差,构造甄别跳跃的检验统计量,对金融资产价格中的随机波动、有限活跃跳跃和无限活跃跳跃等问题进行综合研究。为同时吸收波动率的异方差集聚效应和收益率的非对称效应,对原有的已实现波动率异质自回归预测模型进行拓展,将非对称的异质性自回归模型的误差项设定为GARCH模型,以考察跳跃波动序列与连续波动序列之间的复杂关系。利用沪深股指高频数据进行实证研究,包括进行跳跃识别,跳跃活动程度检验和波动率预测效果对比。研究结果表明,沪深股市同时存在布朗运动成分、有限活跃跳跃和无限活跃跳跃成分,其中连续路径方差占主体。同时,收益和波动间的杠杆效应显著,无论短期还是长期,连续波动和跳跃波动对波动率的预测均具有显著影响,同时考虑股价的跳跃、波动和杠杆效应因素有助于更准确地刻画资产价格动态过程。  相似文献

This paper combines copula functions with GARCH-type models to construct the conditional joint distribution, which is used to estimate Value-at-Risk (VaR) of an equally weighted portfolio comprising crude oil futures and natural gas futures in energy market. Both constant and time-varying copulas are applied to fit the dependence structure of the two assets returns. The findings show that the constant Student t copula is a good compromise for effectively fitting the dependence structure between crude oil futures and natural gas futures. Moreover, the skewed Student t distribution has a better fit than Normal and Student t distribution to the marginal distribution of each asset. Asymmetries and excess kurtosis are found in marginal distributions as well as in dependence. We estimate VaR of the underlying portfolio to be 95% and 99%, by using the Monte Carlo simulation. Then using backtesting, we compare the out-of-sample forecasting performances of VaR estimated by different models.  相似文献

The situation of a limited availability of historical data is frequently encountered in portfolio risk estimation, especially in credit risk estimation. This makes it difficult, for example, to find statistically significant temporal structures in the data on the single asset level. By contrast, there is often a broader availability of cross-sectional data, i.e. a large number of assets in the portfolio. This paper proposes a stochastic dynamic model which takes this situation into account. The modelling framework is based on multivariate elliptical processes which model portfolio risk via sub-portfolio specific volatility indices called portfolio risk drivers. The dynamics of the risk drivers are modelled by multiplicative error models (MEMs)-as introduced by Engle [Engle, R.F., 2002. New frontiers for ARCH models. J. Appl. Econom. 17, 425-446]-or by traditional ARMA models. The model is calibrated to Moody’s KMV Credit Monitor asset returns (also known as firm-value returns) given on a monthly basis for 756 listed European companies at 115 time points from 1996 to 2005. This database is used by financial institutions to assess the credit quality of firms. The proposed risk drivers capture the volatility structure of asset returns in different industry sectors. A characteristic cyclical as well as a seasonal temporal structure of the risk drivers is found across all industry sectors. In addition, each risk driver exhibits idiosyncratic developments. We also identify correlations between the risk drivers and selected macroeconomic variables. These findings may improve the estimation of risk measures such as the (portfolio) Value at Risk. The proposed methods are general and can be applied to any series of multivariate asset or equity returns in finance and insurance.  相似文献

Interbank Offered rate is the only direct market rate in China’s currency market. Volatility forecasting of China Interbank Offered Rate (IBOR) has a very important theoretical and practical significance for financial asset pricing and financial risk measure or management. However, IBOR is a dynamics and non-steady time series whose developmental changes have stronger random fluctuation, so it is difficult to forecast the volatility of IBOR. This paper offers a hybrid algorithm using grey model and extreme learning machine (ELM) to forecast volatility of IBOR. The proposed algorithm is composed of three phases. In the first, grey model is used to deal with the original IBOR time series by accumulated generating operation (AGO) and weaken the stochastic volatility in original series. And then, a forecasting model is founded by using ELM to analyze the new IBOR series. Lastly, the predictive value of the original IBOR series can be obtained by inverse accumulated generating operation (IAGO). The new model is applied to forecasting Interbank Offered Rate of China. Compared with the forecasting results of BP and classical ELM, the new model is more efficient to forecasting short- and middle-term volatility of IBOR.  相似文献

In their seminal work Robust Replication of Volatility Derivatives, Carr and Lee show how to robustly price and replicate a variety of claims written on the quadratic variation of a risky asset under the assumption that the asset’s volatility process is independent of the Brownian motion that drives the asset’s price. Additionally, they propose a correlation immunization strategy that minimizes the pricing and hedging error that results when the correlation between the risky asset’s price and volatility is non-zero. In this paper, we show that the correlation immunization strategy is the only strategy among the class of strategies discussed in Carr and Lee's paper that results in real-valued hedging portfolios when the correlation between the asset’s price and volatility is non-zero. Additionally, we perform a number of Monte Carlo experiments to test the effectiveness of Carr and Lee’s immunization strategy. Our results indicate that the correlation immunization method is an effective means of reducing pricing and hedging errors that result from a non-zero correlation.  相似文献

We develop an option pricing model which is based on a GARCH asset return process with α-stable innovations with truncated tails. The approach utilizes a canonic martingale measure as pricing measure which provides the possibility of a model calibration to market prices. The GARCH-stable option pricing model allows the explanation of some well-known anomalies in empirical data as volatility clustering and heavy tailedness of the return distribution. Finally, the results of Monte Carlo simulations concerning the option price and the implied volatility with respect to different strike and maturity levels are presented.  相似文献

To understand and predict chronological dependence in the second‐order moments of asset returns, this paper considers a multivariate hysteretic autoregressive (HAR) model with generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) specification and time‐varying correlations, by providing a new method to describe a nonlinear dynamic structure of the target time series. The hysteresis variable governs the nonlinear dynamics of the proposed model in which the regime switch can be delayed if the hysteresis variable lies in a hysteresis zone. The proposed setup combines three useful model components for modeling economic and financial data: (1) the multivariate HAR model, (2) the multivariate hysteretic volatility models, and (3) a dynamic conditional correlation structure. This research further incorporates an adapted multivariate Student t innovation based on a scale mixture normal presentation in the HAR model to tolerate for dependence and different shaped innovation components. This study carries out bivariate volatilities, Value at Risk, and marginal expected shortfall based on a Bayesian sampling scheme through adaptive Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods, thus allowing to statistically estimate all unknown model parameters and forecasts simultaneously. Lastly, the proposed methods herein employ both simulated and real examples that help to jointly measure for industry downside tail risk.  相似文献

We consider a portfolio optimization problem under stochastic volatility as well as stochastic interest rate on an infinite time horizon. It is assumed that risky asset prices follow geometric Brownian motion and both volatility and interest rate vary according to ergodic Markov diffusion processes and are correlated with risky asset price. We use an asymptotic method to obtain an optimal consumption and investment policy and find some characteristics of the policy depending upon the correlation between the underlying risky asset price and the stochastic interest rate.  相似文献

Given the inherent complexity of financial markets, a wide area of research in the field of mathematical finance is devoted to develop accurate models for the pricing of contingent claims. Focusing on the stochastic volatility approach (i.e. we assume to describe asset volatility as an additional stochastic process), it appears desirable to introduce reliable dynamics in order to take into account the presence of several assets involved in the definition of multi-asset payoffs. In this article we deal with the multi asset Wishart Affine Stochastic Correlation model, that makes use of Wishart process to describe the stochastic variance covariance matrix of assets return. The resulting parametrization turns out to be a genuine multi-asset extension of the Heston model: each asset is exactly described by a single instance of the Heston dynamics while the joint behaviour is enriched by cross-assets and cross-variances stochastic correlation, all wrapped in an affine modeling. In this framework, we propose a fast and accurate calibration procedure, and two Monte Carlo simulation schemes.

Inventory control systems typically require the frequent updating of forecasts for many different products. In addition to point predictions, interval forecasts are needed to set appropriate levels of safety stock. The series considered in this paper are characterised by high volatility and skewness, which are both time-varying. These features motivate the consideration of forecasting methods that are robust with regard to distributional assumptions. The widespread use of exponential smoothing for point forecasting in inventory control motivates the development of the approach for interval forecasting. In this paper, we construct interval forecasts from quantile predictions generated using exponentially weighted quantile regression. The approach amounts to exponential smoothing of the cumulative distribution function, and can be viewed as an extension of generalised exponential smoothing to quantile forecasting. Empirical results are encouraging, with improvements over traditional methods being particularly apparent when the approach is used as the basis for robust point forecasting.  相似文献

金融时间序列的波动性建模经历了从一阶矩到二阶矩直到高阶矩(包含三阶矩和四阶矩)的过程,而对于高阶矩波动模型是否有助于对未来市场的波动率预测这一问题,国内外学术界尚无文献讨论。以上证综指长达7年的每5分钟高频数据样本为例,通过构建具有不同矩属性的波动模型,计算了中国股票市场波动率的预测值,并利用具有bootstrap特性的SPA检验法,实证检验了不同矩属性波动模型的波动率预测精度差异。实证结果显示:就中国股市而言,四阶矩波动模型能够取得比二阶矩波动模型更优的波动率预测精度,而三阶矩波动模型并未表现出比二阶矩波动模型更强的预测能力;在高阶矩波动模型中包含杠杆效应项并不能提高模型的预测精度。最后提出了在金融风险管理、衍生产品定价等领域引入四阶矩波动模型的研究思路。  相似文献
