Let A be a Banach algebra, and let E be a Banach A-bimodule.A linear map S:AE is intertwining if the bilinear map is continuous, and a linear map D:AE is a derivation if 1D=0,so that a derivation is an intertwining map. Derivations fromA to E are not necessarily continuous. The purpose of the present paper is to prove that the continuityof all intertwining maps from a Banach algebra A into each BanachA-bimodule follows from the fact that all derivations from Ainto each such bimodule are continuous; this resolves a questionleft open in [1, p. 36]. Indeed, we prove a somewhat strongerresult involving left- (or right-) intertwining maps.  相似文献

In a medium characterized by a scalar speed C(x), a shock arrivesat the point x, after time T(x), with its magnitude decreasedby A(x). Symmetric C, T, and A in two dimensions can be convertedto cylindrically symmetric results in three dimensions by applyinga dimension-increasing principle: "Let C(x, y), T(x, y), andA(x, y) be even functions of y. They can be extended into threedimensions by using the formulas C(x, y)C(x, r), T(x, y)T(x,r), and A(x,y)A(x,r) [r–1 cos(x, r)]?, where r = (x2+22)?and is an auxiliary function." When C(x) is a function of asingle variable, the auxiliary function is given by cos(x,y) = Ty(x, y). In two dimensions, there is a conformal mappingprinciple: "Under the conformal mapping x+iy = f(x*+iy*), thefunctions T(x, y) and A(x, y) go into functions associated witha medium having speed C*,y*) = C(Re[f), Im[f]/f1(x*+iy."Thereis also an unchanged wavefronts principle: "If g is a smoothfunction with g(0) = 0 and g'(0)>0 then T*(x) = g(T(x) andA*(x) = A(x)[g'(x)/g'1/2 are associated with a medium havingspeed C*(x) = C(x)/g'(T(x))." in two dimensions, alternatingthe application of the last two principles generates a sequenceof media with their associated T(x, y) and A(x, y). Some ofthese can be extended into three dimensions by applying thefirst principle.  相似文献

This paper introduces the concept of bounded-norm matrix-inversemappings, i.e. mappings µ : RmxnRnxm such that, for allnonzero mxn matrices A, the matrix µ(A) is a generalizedinverse of A and ||µ(A)||> k/s(A), where K < 0 isa constant and s(A) is the nonzero singular value of A havingsmallest absolute value. It is shown how the definition of suchmappings is motivated by the need to ensure finite terminationof the inner-iterations of generalized elimination methods forthe solution of nonlinearly constrained optimization problems.The main result of the paper is that the mapping defined byµ(A) = Ab is a bounded-norm matrix-inverse mapping, providedthat the basic inverse Ab is calculated using Gaussian eliminationwith complete pivoting. The concept of bounded-norm matrix-inversemappings is then extended to that of boundednorm least-squaresmatrix-inverse mappings. It is proved that the mapping definedby µ(A) = Aß is a bounded-norm least-squaresmatrix-inverse mapping, provided that the basic least-squaresinverse Aß is calculated using the QR decompositionwith column pivoting.  相似文献

Let A be a Noetherian local ring and let E be a finitely generatedA-module having rank r. In this note one deals with the expectedinequality (rE) height (Fittr(E)), where height (Fittr(E))is the codimension of the rth Fitting ideal of E, and (M) standsfor the analytic spread of a module M. One establishes caseswhere the inequality holds as well as where it fails. A specialcase where the inequality holds implies the celebrated Zak inequalityfor the dimension of the image of the Gauss map.  相似文献

If the subset T supports a synthesizable p-pseudofunction T,then the restriction Ap(E) to E of the Herz algebra on T isnot Arens regular. The proof is direct, by brute force, anddoes not show the existence of Day points for Ap(E). 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 43A15, 43A10 (primary), 46L10 (secondary).  相似文献

Let be a cusp form on GL(2) over a number field F and let Ebe a quadratic extension of F. Denote by E the base change of to E and by a unitary character of AxE/ Ex. We use the relativetrace formula to give an explicit formula for L(1/2, E ) interms of period integrals of Gross–Prasad test vectors.We give an application of this formula to equidistribution ofgeodesics on a hyperbolic 3-fold.  相似文献

The dependence relationships connecting equal interval splinesand their derivatives are analysed to obtain the form of theerror term when the spline is replaced by a general function.The defining equations for periodic splines of odd order ona uniform mesh are then expressed in terms of a positive definitecirculant matrix A and attainable bounds determined for thecondition number of A and for the norm of A-1. In conjunctionwith the error term associated with the dependence relationships,this enables explicit error bounds to be established for thederivatives at the knots of the spline function. Some subsidiary results in the paper also relate to B-splineson a uniform mesh.  相似文献

Actions of Commutative Hopf Algebras   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
We show that actions of finite-dimensional semisimple commutativeHopf algebras H on H-module algebras A are essentially group-gradings.Moreover we show that the centralizer of H in the smash productA # H equals AH H. Using these we invoke results about groupgraded algebras and results about centralizers of separablesubalgebras to give connections between the ideal structureof A, AH and A # H. Examples of the above occur naturally when one considers: (1) finite abelian groups G of automorphisms of an algebra Awith | G |–1 A; (2) G-graded algebras, for finite groups G; (3) finite-dimensional restricted Lie algebras L, with semisimplerestricted enveloping algebra u(L), acting as derivations onan algebra A.  相似文献

Algebras Generated by Holomorphic and Harmonic Functions on the Disc   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let E be a subset of the boundary of the open unit disc D, andlet A be the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions on D thatextend continuously to D E. It is shown that if f is a boundedharmonic function on D that extends continuously to D E andis not holomorphic, then the uniformly closed algebra A[f] generatedby A and f contains . This result contains as special cases a result on the disc algebradue to irka and a result on H(D due to Axler and Shields. Astronger form of the result, in which f is allowed to have discontinuitieson a small subset of E, is also established. 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 46J10, 46J15, 30H05.  相似文献

We prove that if A is an injective operator system on l2 andP is a completely bounded projection on A then either PA or(IP)A is completely boundedly isomorphic to A. We alsoprove that if B(l2) is linearly homeomorphic to X Y then eitherX or Y is linearly homeomorphic to B(l2). Current address: Merton College, Oxford 0X1 4JD  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to determine two new algorithmsfor the division of the polynomial matrix B(s) R[s]pxq by A(s) R[s]pxp (a) based on the Laurent matrix expansion at s = =of the inverse of A(s), i.e. A(s)–1, and (b) in a waysimilar to the one presented by Gantmacher (1959).  相似文献

Let E2(T) denote the error term in the asymptotic formula forT0|(+it)|4dt. It is proved that there exist constants A>0,B>1 such that for TT0>0 every interval [T, BT] containspoints T1, T2 for which and that T0|E2(t)|adt>>T1+(a/2) for any fixed a1. Theseresults complement earlier results of Motohashi and Ivi thatT0E2(t)dt<<T3/2 and that T0E22(t)dt<<T2logCT forsome C>0. Omega-results analogous to the above ones are obtainedalso for the error term in the asymptotic formula for the Laplacetransform of |(+it)|4.  相似文献

Let X be an infinite-dimensional Banach space, and let A bea Cp Lipschitz bounded starlike body (for instance the unitball of a smooth norm). We prove that:
  1. the boundary A is Cp Lipschitzcontractible;
  2. there is a Cp Lipschitz retraction from A ontoA;
  3. there is a Cp Lipschitz map T: A A with no approximatefixedpoints.

This paper proves conditional existence results for non-trivialsolutions of the equation where the coefficients ai and the unknowns Xi are taken to berational integers. No such results were previously known for n6. The proofs useelementary facts about the 3-descent procedure for ellipticcurves of the form EA: X3 + Y3 = AZ3. Thus, when n=4, and the ai are each prime, and are all congruentto 2 modulo 3, it is shown that (*) will have non-trivial solutions,providing that the Selmer conjecture holds for the curves EA.One may replace the Selmer conjecture by an appropriate formof the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, when n=5 and the ai areagain taken to be primes, all congruent to 8 modulo 9. Finally,when n=5, one may require only that the ai be square-free andcoprime to 3, providing one assumes both the Selmer conjectureand a special case of Schinzel's conjecture (on the representationof primes by cubic polynomials). 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification:11D25, 11G05, 14G05.  相似文献

This paper presents a rigidity theorem for infinite-dimensionalBergman spaces of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces, which statesthat the Bergman space A1(M), for such a Riemann surface M,is isomorphic to the Banach space of summable sequence, l1.This implies that whenever M and N are Riemann surfaces thatare not analytically finite, and in particular are not necessarilyhomeomorphic, then A1(M) is isomorphic to A1(N). It is knownfrom V. Markovic that if there is a linear isometry betweenA1(M) and A1(N), for two Riemann surfaces M and N of non-exceptionaltype, then this isometry is induced by a conformal mapping betweenM and N. As a corollary to this rigidity theorem presented here,taking the Banach duals of A1(M) and l1 shows that the spaceof holomorphic quadratic differentials on M, Q(M), is isomorphicto the Banach space of bounded sequences, l. As a consequenceof this theorem and the Bers embedding, the Teichmüllerspaces of such Riemann surfaces are locally bi-Lipschitz equivalent.  相似文献

Address from 1st April 1985, School of Mathematics, Universityof Bristol, University Walk, Bristol BS8 1TW. The morning finite-element method for evolutionary partial differentialequations leads to a coupled non-linear system of ordinary differentialequations in time, with a coefficien matrix A, say, for thetime derivaties, We show for linear elements in any number ofdimensions, A can be written in the form MTCM, where the matrixC depends solely on the mesh geometry and the matrix M on thegradient of the section, As a simple consequence we show thatA is singular only in the cases (i) element degeneracy () and (ii) collinearity of nodes (M not out of fullrank). We give constructions for the inversion of A in all cases. In one dimension, if A is non-singular, it has a simple explicitinverse. If A is singular we replace it by reduced matrix A*.It can be shown that every case the spectral radius of the Jacobiiteration matrix ia ?and that A or A* can be efficiently invertedby conjugate gradient methods. Finally, we discuss the applicability of these arguments tosystem of equations in any number of dimensions.  相似文献

An infinite system of linear differential equations of the form = Ax + f, x(0) = y is considered, wherex, y and f are infinite column vectors in E, and A is a constantinfinite matrix defining a bounded operator on E, where E isl1, (c0), or l. Explicit error bounds are obtained for the approximationof the solution of the infinite system by the solutions of thefinite truncated systems.  相似文献

A semi-algebra of continuous functions is a cone A of continuousreal functions on a compact Hausdorff space X such that A containsthe products of its elements. A cone A is said to be of typen if fA implies fn(1 + f)–1 A. Uniformly closed semi-algebrasof types 0 and 1 have long been characterized in a manner analogousto the Stone–Weierstrass theorem, but, except for thecase when A is generated by a single function, little has beenknown about type 2. Here, progress is reported on two problems.The first is the characterization of those continuous linearfunctionals on C(X) that determine semi-algebras of type 2.The second is the determination of the type of the tensor productof two type 1 semi-algebras. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification:46J10.  相似文献
