On the structure of homothetic functions

Summary Homothetic function is a term which refers to some extension of the concept of a homogeneous function. We study different hierarchies of generalized homogeneous functions. The main result is a general classification of those functions.     

The nonexistence of regularization operators

We show that there are no continuous regularization procedures for the extension of distributions. We also show that there are no continuous projection operators from the spaces of distributions onto subspaces of distributions with support on a given closed set.     

On generalized gradients

In this paper we present a concept of the construction of generalized gradients by considering a development of directional derivatives into spherical harmonics. This leads to a derivation system as a system of generalized partial derivatives. Necessary conditions for local extrema for a broad class of not necessarily differentiable function can be given and a characterization of points of differentiability can be proved by using generalized gradients.     

Generalized Monotone Operators on Dense Sets

In the present work we show that the local generalized monotonicity of a lower semicontinuous set-valued operator on some certain type of dense sets ensures the global generalized monotonicity of that operator. We achieve this goal gradually by showing at first that the lower semicontinuous set-valued functions of one real variable, which are locally generalized monotone on a dense subsets of their domain are globally generalized monotone. Then, these results are extended to the case of set-valued operators on arbitrary Banach spaces. We close this work with a section on the global generalized convexity of a real valued function, which is obtained out of its local counterpart on some dense sets.     

Minimax Results and Finite-Dimensional Separation

In this paper, we review and unify some classes of generalized convex functions introduced by different authors to prove minimax results in infinite-dimensional spaces and show the relations between these classes. We list also for the most general class already introduced by Jeyakumar (Ref. 1) an elementary proof of a minimax result. The proof of this result uses only a finite-dimensional separa- tion theorem; although this minimax result was already presented by Neumann (Ref. 2) and independently by Jeyakumar (Ref. 1), we believe that the present proof is shorter and more transparent.     

A characterization of generalized poles of generalized Nevanlinna functions

Generalized poles of a generalized Nevanlinna function Q ∈ ??_κ (??) are defined in terms of the operator representation of Q . In this paper those generalized poles that are not of positive type and their degrees of non‐positivity are characterized analytically by means of pole cancellation functions. A note on three-parameter families and generalized convex functions

The concept of generalized convex functions introduced by Beckenbach [E.F. Beckenbach, Generalized convex functions, Bull. Amer. Math. Soc. 43 (1937) 363–371] is extended to the two-dimensional case. Using three-parameter families, we define generalized convex (midconvex, M-convex) functions and show some continuity properties of them.     

Inequalities for the generalized elliptic integrals and modular functions

In this paper, the authors study monotonicity and convexity of the generalized elliptic integrals and certain combinations of these special functions, such as ma(r) and μa(r). Making use of these results, the authors obtain some sharp inequalities for the so-called Ramanujan's generalized modular functions.     

Strongly internal sets and generalized smooth functions

Based on a refinement of the notion of internal sets in Colombeau's theory, so-called strongly internal sets, we introduce the space of generalized smooth functions, a maximal extension of Colombeau generalized functions. Generalized smooth functions as morphisms between sets of generalized points form a sub-category of the category of topological spaces. In particular, they can be composed unrestrictedly.     

Generalized Tricomi and Hermite-Tricomi functions

General classes of Tricomi and Hermite-Tricomi functions are introduced by exploiting properties of an iterated isomorphism, related to the so-called Laguerre-type exponentials, and we mainly consider the properties of the general classes of 3-variable 2-index Tricomi functions and 2-index 4-variable 1-parameter Hermite-Tricomi functions.

Weak homogeneity in generalized function algebras

In this paper, weakly homogeneous generalized functions in the special Colombeau algebras are determined up to equality in the sense of generalized distributions. This yields characterizations that are formally similar to distribution theory. Further, we give several characterizations of equality in the sense of generalized distributions in these algebras (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)     

Generalized Eisenstein series and several modular transformation formulae

B.C. Berndt (J. Reine Angew. Math. 272:182–193, 1975; 304:332–365, 1978) has derived a number of new transformation formulas, in particular, the transformation formulae of the logarithms of the classical theta functions, by using a transformation formula for a more general class of Eisenstein series. In this paper, we continue his study. By using a transformation formula for a class of twisted generalized Eisenstein series, we generalize a transformation formula given by J. Lehner (Duke Math. J. 8:631–655, 1941) and give a new proof for transformation formulas proved by Y. Yang (Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 36:671–682, 2004). On certain generalized families of unified elliptic-type integrals pertaining to Euler integrals and generating functions

Elliptic-type integrals have their importance and potential in certain problems in radiation physics and nuclear technology. A number of earlier works on the subject contains several interesting unifications and generalizations of some significant families of elliptic-type integrals. The present paper is intended to obtain certain new theorems on generating functions. The results obtained in this paper are of manifold generality and basic in nature. Beside deriving various known and new elliptic-type integrals and their generalizations these theorems can be used to evaluate various Euler-type integrals involving a number of generating functions.      

Some asymptotic relations for the generalized inverse

In this paper we investigate the connection between the asymptotic relations of subordination and the negligence with the generalized inverse function in the class of all nondecreasing and unbounded functions, which are defined on a half-axis [a,+∞)(a>0). In the main theorems we prove a characterization of all nondecreasing, unbounded slowly varying functions.     

Large degree asymptotics of generalized Bessel polynomials

Asymptotic expansions are given for large values of n of the generalized Bessel polynomials . The analysis is based on integrals that follow from the generating functions of the polynomials. A new simple expansion is given that is valid outside a compact neighborhood of the origin in the z-plane. New forms of expansions in terms of elementary functions valid in sectors not containing the turning points z=±i/n are derived, and a new expansion in terms of modified Bessel functions is given. Earlier asymptotic expansions of the generalized Bessel polynomials by Wong and Zhang (1997) and Dunster (2001) are discussed.     

Suppleness of the sheaf of algebras of generalized functions on manifolds

We show that the sheaves of algebras of generalized functions Ω→G(Ω) and Ω→G^∞(Ω), Ω are open sets in a manifold X, are supple, contrary to the non-suppleness of the sheaf of distributions.     

On Bessel integrals for reducible degenerate principal series representations

We discuss generalized Bessel integrals with nondegenerate characters, which are assigned to irreducible submodules of a reducible degenerate principal series representation of Sp(n,R). Then we give sufficient conditions for their vanishings which are based on the signatures of the nondegenerate characters. This consequently suggests a reasonable correspondence between open GLn(R)-orbits in the set of real symmetric matrices of size n and irreducible submodules of the reducible principal series representations.     

New exact Jacobi elliptic functions solutions for the generalized coupled Hirota-Satsuma KdV system

In this paper, an generalized Jacobi elliptic functions expansion method with computerized symbolic computation is used for constructing more new exact Jacobi elliptic functions solutions of the generalized coupled Hirota-Satsuma KdV system. As a result, eight families of new doubly periodic solutions are obtained by using this method, some of these solutions are degenerated to solitary wave solutions and triangular functions solutions in the limit cases when the modulus of the Jacobi elliptic functions m → 1 or 0, which shows that the applied method is more powerful and will be used in further works to establish more entirely new solutions for other kinds of nonlinear partial differential equations arising in mathematical physics.     

The existence of generalized mix functions

To enrich the message space of a cipher and guarantee security, Ristenpart and Rogaway defined mix functions on two sets of equal size. To mix inputs from two sets of different sizes, Stinson generalized the definition of mix functions (called generalized mix functions), and established an existence result for generalized mix functions with 10 undetermined pairs of input sizes. In this paper, we complete the solution to the existence problem for generalized mix functions.
