This paper presents a new and simple method to solve fuzzy real system of linear equations by solving two n × n crisp systems of linear equations. In an original system, the coefficient matrix is considered as real crisp, whereas an unknown variable vector and right hand side vector are considered as fuzzy. The general system is initially solved by adding and subtracting the left and right bounds of the vectors respectively. Then obtained solutions are used to get a final solution of the original system. The proposed method is used to solve five example problems. The results obtained are also compared with the known solutions and found to be in good agreement with them.  相似文献

Linear time-periodic systems arise whenever a nonlinear system is linearized about a periodic trajectory. Examples include anisotropic rotor-bearing systems and parametrically excited systems. The structure of the solution to linear time-periodic systems is known due to Floquet’s Theorem. We use this information to derive a new norm which yields two-sided bounds on the solution and in this norm vibrations of the solution are suppressed. The obtained results are a generalization for linear time-invariant systems. Since Floquet’s Theorem is non-constructive, the applicability of the aforementioned results suffers in general from an unknown Floquet normal form. Hence, we discuss trigonometric splines and spectral methods that are both equipped with rigorous bounds on the solution. The methodology differs systematically for the two methods. While in the first method the solution is approximated by trigonometric splines and the upper bound depends on the approximation quality, in the second method the linear time-periodic system is approximated and its solution is represented as an infinite series. Depending on the smoothness of the time-periodic system, we formulate two upper bounds which incorporate the approximation error of the linear time-periodic system and the truncation error of the series representation. Rigorous bounds on the solution are necessary whenever reliable results are needed, and hence they can support the analysis and, e.g., stability or robustness of the solution may be proven or falsified. The theoretical results are illustrated and compared to trigonometric spline bounds and spectral bounds by means of three examples that include an anisotropic rotor-bearing system and a parametrically excited Cantilever beam.  相似文献

An original algorithm is presented that generates both restricted integer compositions and restricted integer partitions that can be constrained simultaneously by (a) upper and lower bounds on the number of summands (“parts”) allowed, and (b) upper and lower bounds on the values of those parts. The algorithm can implement each constraint individually, or no constraints to generate unrestricted sets of integer compositions or partitions. The algorithm is recursive, based directly on very fundamental mathematical constructs, and given its generality, reasonably fast with good time complexity. A general, closed form solution to the open problem of counting the number of integer compositions doubly restricted in this manner also is presented; its formulaic link to an analogous solution for counting doubly-restricted integer partitions is shown to mirror the algorithmic link between these two objects.  相似文献

This paper deals with a multi-class priority queueing system with customer transfers that occur only from lower priority queues to higher priority queues. Conditions for the queueing system to be stable/unstable are obtained. An auxiliary queueing system is introduced, for which an explicit product-form solution is found for the stationary distribution of queue lengths. Sample path relationships between the queue lengths in the original queueing system and the auxiliary queueing system are obtained, which lead to bounds on the stationary distribution of the queue lengths in the original queueing system. Using matrix-analytic methods, it is shown that the tail asymptotics of the stationary distribution is exact geometric, if the queue with the highest priority is overloaded.   相似文献

Two methods to obtain lower bounds to eigenvalues are presented for cases which have equivalent minimum variational formulations. One method is an extension and elaboration of a theorem presented by the author in 1972, which affected the transfer of a weight function from one location to another over the physical system considered. The extension relies on information known a-priori about the exact solution of the problem, although the exact solution is not obtained. The other method is akin to the Rayleigh–Ritz method but yields lower bounds. The two methods are applied to various physical examples of vibrations and of buckling with rather good results. The application to other examples is direct and may be performed in a way quite similar to those examples shown.  相似文献

In time-dependent finite-element calculations, a mass matrixnaturally arises. To avoid the solution of the correspondingalgebraic equation system at each time step, ‘mass lumping’is widely used, even though this pragmatic diagonalization ofthe mass matrix often reduces accuracy. We show how the unassembled form of finite-element equationscan be used to establish (in an element-by-element manner) realisticupper and lower bounds on the eigenvalues of the fully consistentmass matrix when preconditioned by its diagonal entries. Weuse this technique to give specific results for a number ofdifferent types of finite elements in one, two, and three dimensions. The bounds are found by independent calculations on the elements, and, for certain element types, are independent of mesh irregularity. We give examples of when some of the bounds are attained. These results indicate that the preconditioned conjugate-gradientmethod is appropriate and very rapid for the solution of Galerkinmass-matrix equations.  相似文献

This paper presents new approximation bounds for trilinear and biquadratic optimization problems over nonconvex constraints. We first consider the partial semidefinite relaxation of the original problem, and show that there is a bounded approximation solution to it. This will be achieved by determining the diameters of certain convex bodies. We then show that there is also a bounded approximation solution to the original problem via extracting the approximation solution of its semidefinite relaxation. Under some conditions, the approximation bounds obtained in this paper improve those in the literature.  相似文献

This paper consists of two main sections. In the first the bounds are derived for the rounding errors made in the fundamental floating-point arithmetic operations. In the second, these results are applied in the analysis of a number of computing techniques for the calculation of the eigenvalues of matrices. In each case thecomputed solution is expressed as the exact solution of a perturbed version of the original matrix and bounds are found for the perturbations. For one of the techniques, an a priori bound is derived for the errors in the eigenvalues themselves.Communication from the National Physical Laboratory.  相似文献

ON THE ACCURACY OF THE LEAST SQUARES AND THE TOTAL LEAST SQUARES METHODS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Consider solving an overdetermined system of linear algebraic equations by both the least squares method (LS) and the total least squares method (TLS). Extensive published computational evidence shows that when the original system is consistent. one often obtains more accurate solutions by using the TLS method rather than the LS method. These numerical observations contrast with existing analytic perturbation theories for the LS and TLS methods which show that the upper bounds for the LS solution are always smaller than the corresponding upper bounds for the TLS solutions. In this paper we derive a new upper bound for the TLS solution and indicate when the TLS method can be more accurate than the LS method. Many applied problems in signal processing lead to overdetermined systems of linear equations where the matrix and right hand side are determined by the experimental observations (usually in the form of a lime series). It often happens that as the number of columns of the matrix becomes larger, the ra  相似文献

Because of its vital role of the trust-region subproblem (TRS) in various applications, for example, in optimization and in ill-posed problems, there are several factorization-free algorithms for solving the large-scale sparse TRS. The truncated Lanczos approach proposed by N. I. M. Gould, S. Lucidi, M. Roma, and P. L. Toint [SIAM J. Optim., 1999, 9: 504–525] is a natural extension of the classical Lanczos method for the symmetric linear system and eigenvalue problem and, indeed follows the classical Rayleigh-Ritz procedure for eigenvalue computations. It consists of 1) projecting the original TRS to the Krylov subspaces to yield smaller size TRS’s and then 2) solving the resulted TRS’s to get the approximates of the original TRS. This paper presents a posterior error bounds for both the global optimal value and the optimal solution between the original TRS and their projected counterparts. Our error bounds mainly rely on the factors from the Lanczos process as well as the data of the original TRS and, could be helpful in designing certain stopping criteria for the truncated Lanczos approach.  相似文献

This paper concerns lower bounding techniques for the general α-adic assignment problem. The nonlinear objective function is linearized by the introduction of additional variables and constraints, thus yielding a mixed integer linear programming formulation of the problem. The concept of many body interactions is introduced to strengthen this formulation and incorporated in a modified formulation obtained by lifting the original representation to a higher dimensional space. This process involves two steps — (i) addition of new variables and constraints and (ii) incorporation of the new variables in the objective function. If this lifting process is repeated β times on an α-adic assignment problem along with the incorporation of higher order interactions, it results in the mixed-integer formulation of an equivalent (α + β)-adic assignment problem. The incorporation of many body interactions in the higher dimensional formulation improves its degeneracy properties and is also critical to the derivation of decomposition methods for the solution of these large scale mathematical programs in the higher dimensional space. It is shown that a lower bound to the optimal solution of the corresponding linear programming relaxation can be obtained by dualizing a subset of constraints in this formulation and solving O(N2(α+β−1)) linear assignment problems, whose coefficients depend on the dual values. Moreover, it is proved that the optimal solution to the LP relaxation is obtained if we use the optimal duals for the solution of the linear assignment problems. This concept of many body interactions could be applied in designing algorithms for the solution of formulations obtained by lifting general MILP's. We illustrate all these concepts on the quadratic assignment problems With these decomposition bounds, we have found the provably optimal solutions of two unsolved QAP's of size 32 and have also improved upon existing lower bounds for other QAP's.  相似文献

The two-dimensional orthogonal non-guillotine cutting stockproblem (NGCP) appears in many industries (e.g. the wood andsteel industries) and consists of cutting a rectangular mastersurface into a number of rectangular pieces, each with a givensize and value. The pieces must be cut with their edges alwaysparallel to the edges of the master surface (orthogonal cuts). The objective is to maximize the total value of the pieces cut. New upper bounds on the optimal solution to the NGCP are described. The new bounding procedures are obtained by different relaxationsof a new mathematical formulation of the NGCP. Various proceduresfor strengthening the resulting upper bounds and reducing thesize of the original problem are discussed. The proposed newupper bounds have been experimentally evaluated on test problemsderived from the literature. Comparisons with previous boundingprocedures from the literature are given. The computationalresults indicate that these bounds are significantly betterthan the bounds proposed in the literature.  相似文献

Many practical optimal control problems include discrete decisions. These may be either time-independent parameters or time-dependent control functions as gears or valves that can only take discrete values at any given time. While great progress has been achieved in the solution of optimization problems involving integer variables, in particular mixed-integer linear programs, as well as in continuous optimal control problems, the combination of the two is yet an open field of research. We consider the question of lower bounds that can be obtained by a relaxation of the integer requirements. For general nonlinear mixed-integer programs such lower bounds typically suffer from a huge integer gap. We convexify (with respect to binary controls) and relax the original problem and prove that the optimal solution of this continuous control problem yields the best lower bound for the nonlinear integer problem. Building on this theoretical result we present a novel algorithm to solve mixed-integer optimal control problems, with a focus on discrete-valued control functions. Our algorithm is based on the direct multiple shooting method, an adaptive refinement of the underlying control discretization grid and tailored heuristic integer methods. Its applicability is shown by a challenging application, the energy optimal control of a subway train with discrete gears and velocity limits.   相似文献

This article presents two methods for computing interval bounds on the solutions of nonlinear, semi-explicit, index-one differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). Part 1 presents theoretical developments, while Part 2 discusses implementation and numerical examples. The primary theoretical contributions are (1) an interval inclusion test for existence and uniqueness of a solution, and (2) sufficient conditions, in terms of differential inequalities, for two functions to describe componentwise upper and lower bounds on this solution, point-wise in the independent variable. The first proposed method applies these results sequentially in a two-phase algorithm analogous to validated integration methods for ordinary differential equations. The second method unifies these steps to characterize bounds as the solutions of an auxiliary system of DAEs. Efficient implementations of both are described using interval computations and demonstrated on numerical examples.  相似文献

An important way to treat discontinuous variational equations consists in its embedding into a family of continuous ones. In the present paper for this purpose a smooth penalty technique is applied. Convergence bounds are derived for the approximation of the original solution by solutions of the generated smoothed problems. The focus of the papers is to analyze a semi-discretization via Rothe's method and to establish Convergence bounds for Newton's method applied to it depending on discretization and smoothing parameters. The subproblems at each time level can be considered as nonsmooth convex variational problems of obstacle type  相似文献

We here provide two sided bounds for the density of the solution of a system of n differential equations of dimension d, the first one being forced by a non-degenerate random noise and the n−1 other ones being degenerate. The system formed by the n equations satisfies a suitable Hörmander condition: the second equation feels the noise plugged into the first equation, the third equation feels the noise transmitted from the first to the second equation and so on … , so that the noise propagates one way through the system. When the coefficients of the system are Lipschitz continuous, we show that the density of the solution satisfies Gaussian bounds with non-diffusive time scales. The proof relies on the interpretation of the density of the solution as the value function of some optimal stochastic control problem.  相似文献

Two algorithms are here presented. The first one is for obtaining a Chebyshev solution of an overdetermined system of linear equations subject to bounds on the elements of the solution vector. The second algorithm is for obtaining an L1 solution of an overdetermined system of linear equations subject to the same constraints. Efficient solutions are obtained using linear programming techniques. Numerical results and comments are given.  相似文献

Second-order Linear elliptic partial differential equations of potential type with Dirichlet (type 1) or Neumann (type II)boundary conditions on a simply-connected two-dimensional domainare considered. Conjugate problems, that is, a pair of one type1 and one type II problem, are introduced along with an auxiliaryeppiptic system of two equations in such a way that the energiesof the given problem, its conjugate problem, and the auxiliarysystem add to a known constant. There result two-sided boundsfor the energy of the given problem and, as a consequence, aposteriori error bounds for the norm of the difference of anapproximate solution and the exact solution of the problem.A method by which the amount of computation required to obtainthe a posteriori error bounds can be almost halved in many casesof practical interest is given. A posteriori error bounds forapproximate solutions of the auxiliary system are also given.  相似文献

A rigorous decomposition approach to solve separable mixed-integer nonlinear programs where the participating functions are nonconvex is presented. The proposed algorithms consist of solving an alternating sequence of Relaxed Master Problems (mixed-integer linear program) and two nonlinear programming problems (NLPs). A sequence of valid nondecreasing lower bounds and upper bounds is generated by the algorithms which converge in a finite number of iterations. A Primal Bounding Problem is introduced, which is a convex NLP solved at each iteration to derive valid outer approximations of the nonconvex functions in the continuous space. Two decomposition algorithms are presented in this work. On finite termination, the first yields the global solution to the original nonconvex MINLP and the second finds a rigorous bound to the global solution. Convergence and optimality properties, and refinement of the algorithms for efficient implementation are presented. Finally, numerical results are compared with currently available algorithms for example problems, illuminating the potential benefits of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献
