Let Λ be a left and right Noetherian ring. For a positive integer k, we give an equivalent condition that flat dimensions of the first k terms in the minimal injective resolution of Λ are less than or equal to k. In this case we show that the subcategory consisting of k-torsionfree modules is extension closed. Moreover we prove that for a Noetherian algebra every subcategory consisting of i-torsionfree modules is extension closed for any 1 ≤ ik if and only if every subcategory consisting of i-th syzygy modules is extension closed for any 1 ≤ ik. Our results generalize the main results in Auslander and Reiten [4].  相似文献

Let R be a commutative Noetherian local ring with residue class field k. In this paper, we mainly investigate direct summands of the syzygy modules of k. We prove that R is regular if and only if some syzygy module of k has a semidualizing summand. After that, we consider whether R is Gorenstein if and only if some syzygy module of k has a G-projective summand.  相似文献

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. It is shown that the finitely generated R-module M with finite Gorenstein dimension is reflexive if and only if M p is reflexive for p ∈ Spec(R) with depth(R p) ? 1, and $G - {\dim _{{R_p}}}$ (M p) ? depth(R p) ? 2 for p ∈ Spec(R) with depth(R p) ? 2. This gives a generalization of Serre and Samuel’s results on reflexive modules over a regular local ring and a generalization of a recent result due to Belshoff. In addition, for n ? 2 we give a characterization of n-Gorenstein rings via Gorenstein dimension of the dual of modules. Finally it is shown that every R-module has a k-torsionless cover provided R is a k-Gorenstein ring.  相似文献

In this note, it is shown that the validity of the Auslander–Reiten conjecture for a given d-dimensional Cohen–Macaulay local ring R depends on its validity for all direct summands of d-th syzygy of R-modules of finite length, provided R is an isolated singularity. Based on this result, it is shown that under a mild assumption on the base ring R, satisfying the Auslander–Reiten conjecture behaves well under completion and reduction modulo regular elements. In addition, it will turn out that, if R is a commutative Noetherian ring and 𝒬 a finite acyclic quiver, then the Auslander–Reiten conjecture holds true for the path algebra R𝒬, whenever so does R. Using this result, examples of algebras satisfying the Auslander–Reiten conjecture are presented.  相似文献

Every finitely generated rank 2 third syzygy module over a regular local ring is known to be self-dual. We show more generally that any finitely generated rank 2 reflexive module is self-dual, and that the isomorphism is skew symmetric. We use this ismorphism to estimate how large k may be if the module is a kth syzygy, and how closely allied rank 3 modules are related to their duals.  相似文献

Let Λ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field k. We will investigate homological properties of piecewise hereditary algebras Λ. In particular we give lower and upper bounds of the strong global dimension, show the behavior of the strong global dimension under one point extensions and tilting. Over an Artin algebra Λ many standard concepts from homological algebra can be relativized with respect to a contravariantly finite subcategory of mod-Λ, which contains the projective modules. The main aim of this article is to prove that the resulting relative homological dimensions of modules are preserved by stable equivalences between Artin algebras. As a corollary, we see that Auslander’s notion of representation dimension is invariant under stable equivalence (a result recently obtained independently by Guo). We then apply these results to the syzygy functor for self-injective algebras of representation dimension three, where we bound the number of simple modules in terms of the number of indecomposable nonprojective summands of an Auslander generator.   相似文献

Let G(n,k) be a graph whose vertices are the k-element subsets of an n-set represented as n-tuples of “O's” and “1's” with k “1's”. Two such subsets are adjacent if one can be obtained from the other by switching a “O” and a “1” which are in adjacent positions, where the first and nth positions are also considered adjacent. The problem of finding hamiltonian cycles in G(n,k) is discussed. This may be considered a problem of finding “Gray codes” of the k-element subsets of an n-set. It is shown that no such cycle exists if n and k are both even or if k=2 and n?7 and that such a cycle does exist in all other cases where k?5.  相似文献

Let Γ=〈α,β〉 be a numerical semigroup. In this article we consider several relations between the so-called Γ-semimodules and lattice paths from (0,α) to (β,0): we investigate isomorphism classes of Γ-semimodules as well as certain subsets of the set of gaps of Γ, and finally syzygies of Γ-semimodules. In particular we compute the number of Γ-semimodules which are isomorphic with their k-th syzygy for some k.  相似文献

Bazzoni had given a simple characterization of infinitely generated n-tilting modules. Though her method is even inapplicable to classical n-tilting modules over Artin algebras, we show in this note that a similar characterization does hold for (finitely generated) relative n-tilting modules introduced by Auslander and Solberg for Artin algebras, by using a different method. It is shown how to choose the smoothing parameter when a smoothing periodic spline of degree 2m?1 is used to reconstruct a smooth periodic curve from noisy ordinate data. The noise is assumed “white”, and the true curve is assumed to be in the Sobolev spaceW 2 (2m) of periodic functions with absolutely continuousv-th derivative,v=0, 1, ..., 2m?1 and square integrable 2m-th derivative. The criteria is minimum expected square error, averaged over the data points. The dependency of the optimum smoothing parameter on the sample size, the noise variance, and the smoothness of the true curve is found explicitly.  相似文献

Perfect codes and optimal anticodes in the Grassman graph Gq(nk) are examined. It is shown that the vertices of the Grassman graph cannot be partitioned into optimal anticodes, with a possible exception when n=2k. We further examine properties of diameter perfect codes in the graph. These codes are known to be similar to Steiner systems. We discuss the connection between these systems and “real” Steiner systems.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of rank and pseudo-rank functions on a von Neumann regular ring R. The main technique used involves transferring hypotheses becomes a partially ordered abelian group. It is shown that the existence of a pseudo-rank function on R is equivalent to certain finiteness conditions on the matrix rings over R. As a corollary, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of a rank function on a simple regular ring. Uniqueness of a rank function is shown to be equivalent to certain comparability conditions on the principal right ideals of R. Other results concern the existence of enough pseudo-rank functions to distinguish nonzero ring elements from zero, or to distinguish between non-isomorphic principal right ideals.All rings in this paper are associative with unit (but usually noncommutative), and all modules are unital right modules. In this paper, a formalization of the idea of “lookingk turns ahead” in the context of an-person non-cooperative game, in which the rules specify a sequence of turns, is considered. At thei-th move, there is a game ofk turns an equilibrium of which gives a behavioral strategy for thei-the move. In general, this strategy is not an equilibrium but is attractive as an explanation of the behavior of experienced players playing a complicated game. Classically, the Auslander–Bridger transpose finds its best applications in the well-known setting of finitely presented modules over a semiperfect ring. We introduce a class of modules over an arbitrary ring R, which we call Auslander–Bridger modules, with the property that the Auslander–Bridger transpose induces a well-behaved bijection between isomorphism classes of Auslander–Bridger right R-modules and isomorphism classes of Auslander–Bridger left R-modules. Thus we generalize what happens for finitely presented modules over a semiperfect ring. Auslander–Bridger modules are characterized by two invariants (epi-isomorphism class and lower-isomorphism class), which are interchanged by the transpose. Via a suitable duality, we find that kernels of morphisms between injective modules of finite Goldie dimension are also characterized by two invariants (mono-isomorphism class and upper-isomorphism class).  相似文献

In this paper we study the one-way multiparty communication model, in which every party speaks exactly once in its turn. For every k, we prove a tight lower bound of Ω(n 1/(k?1)}) on the probabilistic communication complexity of pointer jumping in a k-layered tree, where the pointers of the i-th layer reside on the forehead of the i-th party to speak. The lower bound remains nontrivial even for k = (logn)1/2?? parties, for any constant ? > 0. Previous to our work a lower bound was known only for k =3 (Wigderson, see [7]), and in restricted models for k>3 [2},24,18,4,13]. Our results have the following consequences to other models and problems, extending previous work in several directions. The one-way model is strong enough to capture general (not one-way) multiparty protocols with a bounded number of rounds. Thus we generalize two problem areas previously studied in the 2-party model (cf. [30,21,29]). The first is a rounds hierarchy: we give an exponential separation between the power of r and 2r rounds in general probabilistic k-party protocols, for any k and r. The second is the relative power of determinism and nondeterminism: we prove an exponential separation between nondeterministic and deterministic communication complexity for general k-party protocols with r rounds, for any k,r. The pointer jumping function is weak enough to be a special case of the well-studied disjointness function. Thus we obtain a lower bound of Ω(n 1/(k?1)) on the probabilistic complexity of k-set disjointness in the one-way model, which was known only for k = 3 parties. Our result also extends a similar lower bound for the weaker simultaneous model, in which parties simultaneously send one message to a referee [12]. Finally, we infer an exponential separation between the power of any two different orders in which parties send messages in the one-way model, for every k. Previous results [29, 7] separated orders based on who speaks first. Our lower bound technique, which handles functions of high discrepancy over cylinder intersections, provides a “party-elimination” induction, based on a restricted form of a direct-product result, specific to the pointer jumping function.  相似文献

We answer a question posed by Auslander and Bridger. Every homomorphism of modules is projective-stably equivalent to an epimorphism but is not always to a monomorphism. We prove that a map is projective-stably equivalent to a monomorphism if and only if its kernel is torsionless, that is, a first syzygy. If it occurs, there can be various monomorphisms that are projective-stably equivalent to a given map. But in this case there uniquely exists a “perfect” monomorphism to which a given map is projective-stably equivalent.  相似文献

Let C be a finite dimensional directed algebra over an algebraically closed field k and A=A(C) the dual extension of C. The characteristic modules of A are constructed explicitly for a class of directed algebras, which generalizes the results of Xi. Furthermore, it is shown that the characteristic modules of dual extensions of a certain class of directed algebras admit the left Groebner basis theory in the sense of E. L. Green.  相似文献
