Let A be a standard operator algebra acting on a (real or complex) normed space E. For two n-tuples A = (A1, … , An) and B = (B1, … , Bn) of elements in A, we define the elementary operator RA,B on A by the relation for all X in A. For a single operator AA, we define the two particular elementary operators LA and RA on A by LA(X) = AX and RA(X) = XA, for every X in A. We denote by d(RA,B) the supremum of the norm of RA,B(X) over all unit rank one operators on E. In this note, we shall characterize: (i) the supremun d(RA,B), (ii) the relation , (iii) the relation d(LA − RB) = ∥A∥ + ∥B∥, (iv) the relation d(LARB − LBRA) = 2∥A∥ + ∥B∥. Moreover, we shall show the lower estimate d(LA − RB) ? max{supλV(B)A − λI∥, supλV(A)B − λI∥} (where V(X) is the algebraic numerical range of X in A).  相似文献

The conjecture posed by Aujla and Silva [J.S. Aujla, F.C. Silva, Weak majorization inequalities and convex functions, Linear Algebra Appl. 369 (2003) 217-233] is proved. It is shown that for any m-tuple of positive-semidefinite n × n complex matrices Aj and for any non-negative convex function f on [0, ∞) with f(0) = 0 the inequality ?f(A1) + f(A2) + ? + f(Am)? ? ? f(A1 + A2 + ? + Am)? holds for any unitarily invariant norm ? · ?. It is also proved that ?f(A1) + f(A2) + ? + f(Am)? ? f(?A1 + A2 + ? + Am?), where f is a non-negative concave function on [0, ∞) and ? · ? is normalized.  相似文献

Let B(X) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on the Banach space X, and let N(X) be the set of nilpotent operators in B(X). Suppose ?:B(X)→B(X) is a surjective map such that A,BB(X) satisfy ABN(X) if and only if ?(A)?(B)∈N(X). If X is infinite dimensional, then there exists a map f:B(X)→C?{0} such that one of the following holds:

The space X is reflexive, and there exists a bijective bounded linear or conjugate-linear operator S : X′ → X such that ? has the form A ? S[f(A)A′]S−1.
If X has dimension n with 3 ? n < ∞, and B(X) is identified with the algebra Mn of n × n complex matrices, then there exist a map f:MnC?{0}, a field automorphism ξ:CC, and an invertible S ∈ Mn such that ? has one of the following forms:

For a set A of nonnegative integers the representation functions R2(A,n), R3(A,n) are defined as the number of solutions of the equation n=a+a,a,aA with a<a, a?a, respectively. Let D(0)=0 and let D(a) denote the number of ones in the binary representation of a. Let A0 be the set of all nonnegative integers a with even D(a) and A1 be the set of all nonnegative integers a with odd D(a). In this paper we show that (a) if R2(A,n)=R2(N?A,n) for all n?2N−1, then R2(A,n)=R2(N?A,n)?1 for all n?12N2−10N−2 except for A=A0 or A=A1; (b) if R3(A,n)=R3(N?A,n) for all n?2N−1, then R3(A,n)=R3(N?A,n)?1 for all n?12N2+2N. Several problems are posed in this paper.  相似文献

Let ?be a positive linear functional on the algebra of n × n complex matrices and p be a number greater than 1. The main result of the paper says that if for any pair A, B of positive semi-definite n × n matrices with A ? B the inequality ?(Ap) ? ?(Bp) holds true, then ?is a nonnegative scalar multiple of the trace.  相似文献

Given a bounded operator A on a Banach space X with Drazin inverse AD and index r, we study the class of group invertible bounded operators B such that I+AD(BA) is invertible and R(B)∩N(Ar)={0}. We show that they can be written with respect to the decomposition X=R(Ar)⊕N(Ar) as a matrix operator, , where B1 and are invertible. Several characterizations of the perturbed operators are established, extending matrix results. We analyze the perturbation of the Drazin inverse and we provide explicit upper bounds of ‖B?AD‖ and ‖BB?ADA‖. We obtain a result on the continuity of the group inverse for operators on Banach spaces.  相似文献

This paper presents a generalized Gaussian quadrature method for numerical integration over triangular, parallelogram and quadrilateral elements with linear sides. In order to derive the quadrature rule, a general transformation of the regions, R1 = {(xy)∣a ? x ? bg(x) ? y ? h(x)} and R2 = {(xy)∣a ? y ? bg(y) ? x ? h(y)}, where g(x), h(x), g(y) and h(y) are linear functions, is given from (xy) space to a square in (ξη) space, S: {(ξη)∣0 ? ξ ? 1, 0 ? η ? 1}. Generlized Gaussian quadrature nodes and weights introduced by Ma et.al. in 1997 are used in the product formula presented in this paper to evaluate the integral over S, as it is proved to give more accurate results than the classical Gauss Legendre nodes and weights. The method can be used to integrate a wide class of functions including smooth functions and functions with end-point singularities, over any two-dimensional region, bounded by linear sides. The performance of the method is illustrated for different functions over different two-dimensional regions with numerical examples.  相似文献

In this article we prove new results concerning the existence and various properties of an evolution system UA+B(t,s)0?s?t?T generated by the sum −(A(t)+B(t)) of two linear, time-dependent and generally unbounded operators defined on time-dependent domains in a complex and separable Banach space B. In particular, writing L(B) for the algebra of all linear bounded operators on B, we can express UA+B(t,s)0?s?t?T as the strong limit in L(B) of a product of the holomorphic contraction semigroups generated by −A(t) and −B(t), respectively, thereby proving a product formula of the Trotter-Kato type under very general conditions which allow the domain D(A(t)+B(t)) to evolve with time provided there exists a fixed set D?t∈[0,T]D(A(t)+B(t)) everywhere dense in B. We obtain a special case of our formula when B(t)=0, which, in effect, allows us to reconstruct UA(t,s)0?s?t?T very simply in terms of the semigroup generated by −A(t). We then illustrate our results by considering various examples of nonautonomous parabolic initial-boundary value problems, including one related to the theory of time-dependent singular perturbations of self-adjoint operators. We finally mention what we think remains an open problem for the corresponding equations of Schrödinger type in quantum mechanics.  相似文献

In this paper we study the class of square matrices A such that AA − AA is nonsingular, where A stands for the Moore-Penrose inverse of A. Among several characterizations we prove that for a matrix A of order n, the difference AA − AA is nonsingular if and only if R(A)R(A)=Cn,1, where R(·) denotes the range space. Also we study matrices A such that R(A)=R(A).  相似文献

Let Mn be the space of all n × n complex matrices, and let Γn be the subset of Mn consisting of all n × n k-potent matrices. We denote by Ψn the set of all maps on Mn satisfying A − λB ∈ Γn if and only if ?(A) − λ?(B) ∈ Γn for every A,B ∈ Mn and λ ∈ C. It was shown that ? ∈ Ψn if and only if there exist an invertible matrix P ∈ Mn and c ∈ C with ck−1 = 1 such that either ?(A) = cPAP−1 for every A ∈ Mn, or ?(A) = cPATP−1 for every A ∈ Mn.  相似文献

Let F(A) be the numerical range or the numerical radius of a square matrix A. Denote by A ° B the Schur product of two matrices A and B. Characterizations are given for mappings on square matrices satisfying F(A ° B) = F(?(A) ° ?(B)) for all matrices A and B. Analogous results are obtained for mappings on Hermitian matrices.  相似文献

Until now the concept of a Soules basis matrix of sign patternN consisted of an orthogonal matrix RRn,n, generated in a certain way from a positive n-vector, which has the property that for any diagonal matrix Λ = diag(λ1, … , λn), with λ1 ? ? ? λn ? 0, the symmetric matrix A = RΛRT has nonnegative entries only. In the present paper we introduce the notion of a pair of double Soules basis matrices of sign patternN which is a pair of matrices (PQ), each in Rn,n, which are not necessarily orthogonal and which are generated in a certain way from two positive vectors, but such that PQT = I and such that for any of the aforementioned diagonal matrices Λ, the matrix A = PΛQT (also) has nonnegative entries only. We investigate the interesting properties which such matrices A have.As a preamble to the above investigation we show that the iterates, , generated in the course of the QR-algorithm when it is applied to A = RΛRT, where R is a Soules basis matrix of sign pattern N, are again symmetric matrices generated by the Soules basis matrices Rk of sign pattern N which are themselves modified as the algorithm progresses. Our work here extends earlier works by Soules and Elsner et al.  相似文献

In this paper, we have found upper and lower bounds for the spectral norms of r-circulant matrices in the forms A = Cr(F0, F1, …, Fn−1), B = Cr(L0, L1, …, Ln−1), and we have obtained some bounds for the spectral norms of Kronecker and Hadamard products of A and B matrices.  相似文献

A Hilbert space operator A ∈ B(H) is said to be p-quasi-hyponormal for some 0 < p ? 1, A ∈ p − QH, if A(∣A2p − ∣A2p)A ? 0. If H is infinite dimensional, then operators A ∈ p − QH are not supercyclic. Restricting ourselves to those A ∈ p − QH for which A−1(0) ⊆ A∗-1(0), A ∈ p − QH, a necessary and sufficient condition for the adjoint of a pure p − QH operator to be supercyclic is proved. Operators in p − QH satisfy Bishop’s property (β). Each A ∈ p − QH has the finite ascent property and the quasi-nilpotent part H0(A − λI) of A equals (A − λI)-1(0) for all complex numbers λ; hence f(A) satisfies Weyl’s theorem, and f(A) satisfies a-Weyl’s theorem, for all non-constant functions f which are analytic on a neighborhood of σ(A). It is proved that a Putnam-Fuglede type commutativity theorem holds for operators in p − QH.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of finding u = u(xyt) and p = p(t) which satisfy ut = uxx + uyy + p(t)u + ? in R × [0, T], u(xy, 0) = f(xy), (xy) ∈ R = [0, 1] × [0, 1], u is known on the boundary of R and u(xyt) = E(t), 0 < t ? T, where E(t) is known and (xy) is a given point of R. Through a function transformation, the nonlinear two-dimensional diffusion problem is transformed into a linear problem, and a backward Euler scheme is constructed. It is proved by the maximum principle that the scheme is uniquely solvable, unconditionally stable and convergent in L norm. The convergence orders of u and p are of O(τ + h2). The impact of initial data errors on the numerical solution is also considered. Numerical experiments are presented to illustrate the validity of the theoretical results.  相似文献

A sign pattern matrix is a matrix whose entries are from the set {+,-,0}. For a real matrix B, sgn(B) is the sign pattern matrix obtained by replacing each positive (respectively, negative, zero) entry of B by + (respectively, −, 0). For a sign pattern matrix A, the sign pattern class of A, denoted Q(A), is defined as {B:sgn(B)=A}. The minimum rank mr(A) (maximum rank MR(A)) of a sign pattern matrix A is the minimum (maximum) of the ranks of the real matrices in Q(A). Several results concerning sign patterns A that require almost unique rank, that is to say, the sign patterns A such that MR(A) = mr(A) + 1, are established and are extended to sign patterns A for which the spread is d=MR(A)-mr(A). A complete characterization of the sign patterns that require almost unique rank is obtained.  相似文献

This is a continuation of our paper [2]. We prove that for functions f in the Hölder class Λα(R) and 1<p<∞, the operator f(A)−f(B) belongs to Sp/α, whenever A and B are self-adjoint operators with ABSp. We also obtain sharp estimates for the Schatten-von Neumann norms ‖f(A)−f(B)Sp/α in terms of ‖ABSp and establish similar results for other operator ideals. We also estimate Schatten-von Neumann norms of higher order differences . We prove that analogous results hold for functions on the unit circle and unitary operators and for analytic functions in the unit disk and contractions. Then we find necessary conditions on f for f(A)−f(B) to belong to Sq under the assumption that ABSp. We also obtain Schatten-von Neumann estimates for quasicommutators f(A)RRf(B), and introduce a spectral shift function and find a trace formula for operators of the form f(AK)−2f(A)+f(A+K).  相似文献
