Expansions about the Gamma for the Distribution and Quantiles of a Standard Estimate

We give expansions for the distribution, density, and quantiles of an estimate, building on results of Cornish, Fisher, Hill, Davis and the authors. The estimate is assumed to be non-lattice with the standard expansions for its cumulants. By expanding about a skew variable with matched skewness, one can drastically reduce the number of terms needed for a given level of accuracy. The building blocks generalize the Hermite polynomials. We demonstrate with expansions about the gamma.     

Some new transformations for Bailey pairs and WP-Bailey pairs

We derive several new transformations relating WP-Bailey pairs. We also consider the corresponding transformations relating standard Bailey pairs, and as a consequence, derive some quite general expansions for products of theta functions which can also be expressed as certain types of Lambert series.

Alternative proofs for inequalities of some trigonometric functions

By using an identity relating to Bernoulli's numbers and power series expansions of cotangent function and logarithms of functions involving sine function, cosine function and tangent function, four inequalities involving cotangent function, sine function, secant function and tangent function are established.

Here presented is a further investigation on a general source formula(GSF) that has been proved capable of deducing more than 30 special formulas for series expansions and summations in the author's recent paper [On a pair of operator series expansions implying a variety of summation formulas.Anal.Theory Appl.,2015,31(3):260–282].It is shown that the pair of series transformation formulas found and utilized by He,Hsu and Shiue [cf.Disc.Math.,2008,308:3427–3440] is also deducible from the GSF as consequences.Thus it is found that the GSF actually implies more than 50 special series expansions and summation formulas.Finally,several expository remarks relating to the(Σ?D) formula class are given in the closing section.     

On the lack of exponential stability for an elastic–viscoelastic waves interaction system

In this paper, we consider an interaction system in which a wave and a viscoelastic wave equation evolve in two bounded domains, with natural transmission conditions at a common interface. We show the lack of uniform decay of solutions in general domains. The method is based on the construction of ray-like solutions by means of geometric optics expansions and a careful analysis of the transfer of the energy at the interface.

Asymptotic Expansions and Influence Coefficients for Edge-Loaded Conical Shells

The equations of linear elasticity for rotationally symmetric deformations are expanded using a small parameter related to the thickness to radius of curvature ratio of the shell to obtain the classical thin shell equations of conical shells as a first approximation. These classical equations with variable coefficients permit further asymptotic expansions in the cases of steep as well as shallow cones, yielding systems of equations with constant coefficients. Solutions of these equations are used to compute the influence coefficients relating edge loads and edge displacements.     

Estimate for exponential sums and its applications

In this paper, we establish a new estimate on exponential sums by using the Bombieri-type theorem and the modified Huxley-Hooley contour. We also generalize the famous Goldbach-Vinogradov theorem, via different argument from that of Vinogradov. In particular, our major arcs are quite large and these enlarged major arcs are treated by the estimate we have established.

ON THE DEGREE OF APPROXIMATION BY WAVELET EXPANSIONS

In this paper we estimate the degree of approximation of wavelet expansions. Our result shows that the degree has the exponential decay for function f(x) ∈ L2 continuous in a finite interval (a,b) which is much superior to those of approximation by polynomial operators and by expansions of classical orthogonal series.     

Third-order efficiency of conditional tests in exponential models: The lattice case

As is well known, in full rank multivariate exponential families, tests of Neyman structure are uniformly most powerful unbiased for one-sided problems. For the case of lattice distributions, the power of these tests—evaluated at contiguous alternatives—is approximated by asymptotic expansions up to errors of order o(n^?1). Surprisingly the tests with Neyman structure are not third-order efficient in the class of all asymptotically similar tests unless the problem is univariate.     

A study of inverse trigonometric integrals associated with three-variable Mahler measures, and some related identities

We prove several identities relating three-variable Mahler measures to integrals of inverse trigonometric functions. After deriving closed forms for most of these integrals, we obtain ten explicit formulas for three-variable Mahler measures. Several of these results generalize formulas due to Condon and Lalín. As a corollary, we also obtain three q-series expansions for the dilogarithm.     

STABILITY AND DECAY RATE OF INTERVAL DELAY DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS

In this paper, the exponential stability, exponential type instability and composite type stability for a kind of interval delay dynamical systems are investigated by means of the method of characteristic equations and the method of M matrix. An estimate of the decay rate of this kind of systems in stable case is obtained.     

Global solutions of the biconfluent Heun equation

An algorithm is proposed for obtaining global solutions of the biconfluent Heun equation, which appears when dealing with a variety of physical problems. The procedure, which provides algebraic expressions of the solutions in the form of convergent series or asymptotic expansions, lies on the determination of the connection factors relating the solutions about the regular singular point at the origin and the irregular one at infinity. The algorithm is illustrated by examples.     

Truncation Error on Wavelet Sampling Expansions

We estimate the truncation error of sampling expansions on translationinvariant spaces, generated by integer translations of a single functionand on wavelet subspaces of L ₂(R). As a byproduct of themain result, we get the classical Jagerman's bound for Shannon's samplingexpansions. We also examine this error on certain wavelet sampling expansions.     

Expansions of one density via polynomials orthogonal with respect to the other

We expand the Chebyshev polynomials and some of its linear combination in linear combinations of the q-Hermite, the Rogers (q-utraspherical) and the Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials and vice versa. We use these expansions to obtain expansions of some densities, including q-Normal and some related to it, in infinite series constructed of the products of the other density times polynomials orthogonal to it, allowing deeper analysis and discovering new properties. On the way we find an easy proof of expansion of the Poisson-Mehler kernel as well as its reciprocal. We also formulate simple rule relating one set of orthogonal polynomials to the other given the properties of the ratio of the respective densities of measures orthogonalizing these polynomials sets.
