On critical values of numerical parameters characterizing intersections of embedded sets

To study intersections of embedded bounded closed sets in Banach space, a numerical parameter was introduced earlier; in a certain sense, this parameter describes the deviation of the shape of a set from that of a sphere. Critical values of this parameter for some classes of Banach spaces are determined, a new numerical parameter serving the same purpose is introduced, and the relation between the two parameters is examined. On the essential spectra of some matrix of linear relations

On Linear Inequality Systems with Smooth Coefficients

A linear inequality system with infinitely many constraints is polynomial [analytical] if its index set is a compact interval of the real line and all its coefficients are polynomial [analytical] functions of the index on this interval. This paper provides sufficient conditions for a given closed convex set to be the solution set of a certain polynomial or at least analytical system.The authors are indebted to Dr. J. M. Relating Categorical Semantics for Intuitionistic Linear Logic

There are several kinds of linear typed calculus in the literature, some with their associated notion of categorical model. Our aim in this paper is to systematise the relationship between three of these linear typed calculi and their models. We point out that mere soundness and completeness of a linear typed calculus with respect to a class of categorical models are not sufficient to identify the most appropriate class uniquely. We recommend instead to use the notion of internal language when relating a typed calculus to a class of models. After clarifying the internal languages of the categories of models in the literature we relate these models via reflections and coreflections. Spectral Sets and the Drazin Inverse with Applications to Second Order Differential Equations

The paper defines and studies the Drazin inverse for a closed linear operator A in a Banach space X in the case that 0 belongs to a spectral set of the spectrum of A. Results are applied to extend a result of Krein on a nonhomogeneous second order differential equation in a Banach space.

本文针对F-空间中闭算子方程的一般逼近格式,研究其相容性、收敛性和稳定性之间的关系.所得的主要结果是：这种一般逼近格式在相容性条件下,其收敛性与稳定性是等价的.此定理可以看作是对Lax等价原理的推广,是求解第一类闭算子方程的一般逼近格式的基本定理.为得到这一主要结果,本文还给出了F-空间中的一条基本定理,众所周知的一致有界原理,闭图像定理和开映像定理是其简单推论.     

Uniqueness criterion in an inverse problem for an abstract differential equation with nonstationary inhomogeneous term

In a Banach space E, we consider the inverse problem du(t)/dt = Au(t) + (t)p , u(0) = u ₀, u(T) = u₁, with an unknown function u(t) and an element p E. The operator A is assumed linear and closed. Perturbation Analysis of Moore–Penrose Quasi-linear Projection Generalized Inverse of Closed Linear Operators in Banach Spaces

In this paper, we investigate the perturbation problem for the Moore–Penrose bounded quasi-linear projection generalized inverses of a closed linear operaters in Banach space. By the method of the perturbation analysis of bounded quasi-linear operators, we obtain an explicit perturbation theorem and error estimates for the Moore–Penrose bounded quasi-linear generalized inverse of closed linear operator under the T-bounded perturbation, which not only extend some known results on the perturbation of the oblique projection generalized inverse of closed linear operators, but also extend some known results on the perturbation of the Moore–Penrose metric generalized inverse of bounded linear operators in Banach spaces.     

On the cauchy problem for a class of degenerate differential equations with Lipschitz right-hand side

This note deals with an application of the fixed point theorem for multivalued contraction mappings to the study of degenerate differential equations with Lipschitz right-hand side and with degeneration determined by a closed surjective linear operator.

Abstract Differential Null-Equations

Let A be a closed linear operator in a Banach space, and let n 1 be an integer. If the resolvent I – A)^-1 is an entire function of of order < 1/n or of order 1/n and minimal type, then the equation d ⁿ u(t)/dt ⁿ =Au(t) has only the trivial solution u(t)0. An example for partial differential equations is given. Generalizations are indicated.     

Constructive complements of unions of two closed sets

It is well known that in Bishop‐style constructive mathematics, the closure of the union of two subsets of ? is ‘not’ the union of their closures. The dual situation, involving the complement of the closure of the union, is investigated constructively, using completeness of the ambient space in order to avoid any application of Markov's Principle. Mechanism of the formation of singularities for quasilinear hyperbolic systems with linearly degenerate characteristic fields

One often believes that there is no shock formation for the Cauchy problem of quasilinear hyperbolic systems (of conservation laws) with linearly degenerate characteristic fields. It has been a conjecture for a long time (see Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. 2004; 172 :65–91; Compressible Fluid Flow and Systems of Conservation Laws in Several Space Variables. Springer: New York, 1984) and it is still an open problem in the general situation up to now. In this paper, a framework to justify this conjecture is proposed, and, by means of the concept such as the strict block hyperbolicity, the part richness and the successively block‐closed system, some general kinds of quasilinear hyperbolic systems, which verify the conjecture, are given. Decomposition of bipartite graphs into closed trails

Let Lct(G) denote the set of all lengths of closed trails that exist in an even graph G. A sequence (t ₁,..., t _p ) of elements of Lct(G) adding up to |E(G)| is G-realisable provided there is a sequence (T ₁,..., t _p ) of pairwise edge-disjoint closed trails in G such that T _i is of length T _i for i = 1,..., p. The graph G is arbitrarily decomposable into closed trails if all possible sequences are G-realisable. In the paper it is proved that if a ⩾ 1 is an odd integer and M _a,a is a perfect matching in K _a,a , then the graph K _a,a -M _a,a is arbitrarily decomposable into closed trails.      

Strongly closed subgroups of finite groups

This paper gives a complete classification of the finite groups that contain a strongly closed p-subgroup for p any prime.
