Let be a -algebra acting on a Hilbert space , let be a linear mapping and let be a -derivation. Generalizing the celebrated theorem of Sakai, we prove that if is a continuous -mapping, then is automatically continuous. In addition, we show the converse is true in the sense that if is a continuous --derivation, then there exists a continuous linear mapping such that is a --derivation. The continuity of the so-called - -derivations is also discussed.

A unital -algebra is said to have the (APD)-property if every nonzero element in has the approximate polar decomposition. Let be a closed ideal of . Suppose that and have (APD). In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition that makes have (APD). Furthermore, we show that if and or is a simple purely infinite -algebra, then has (APD).

Let be a multiplicative filtration of a local ring such that the Rees algebra is Noetherian. We recall Burch's inequality for and give an upper bound of the a-invariant of the associated graded ring using a reduction system of . Applying those results, we study the symbolic Rees algebra of certain ideals of dimension .

In this paper, we first introduce the concept of single elements in a module. A systematic study of single elements in the Alg-module is initiated, where is a completely distributive subspace lattice on a Hilbert space . Furthermore, as an application of single elements, we study module isomorphisms between norm closed Alg-modules, where is a nest, and obtain the following result: Suppose that are norm closed Alg-modules and that is a module isomorphism. Then and there exists a non-zero complex number such that .

For , we show that there is always at least one abstract regular polytope such that . Moreover, if is an abstract regular polytope such that , then is a polyhedron.

Let be a unital, simple, separable -algebra with real rank zero, stable rank one, and weakly unperforated ordered group. Suppose, also, that can be locally approximated by type I algebras with Hausdorff spectrum and bounded irreducible representations (the bound being dependent on the local approximating algebra). Then is tracially approximately finite dimensional (i.e., has tracial rank zero).

Hence, is an -algebra with bounded dimension growth and is determined by -theoretic invariants.

The above result also gives the first proof for the locally case.

Let be a faithful representation of a finite group over the field . Via the group acts on and hence on the algebra of homogenous polynomial functions on the vector space . R. Kane (1994) formulated the following result based on the work of R. Steinberg (1964): If the field has characteristic 0, then is a Poincaré duality algebra if and only if is a pseudoreflection group. The purpose of this note is to extend this result to the case (i.e. the order of is relatively prime to the characteristic of ).

A -semigroup on a Banach space is called hypercyclic if there exists an element such that is dense in . is called chaotic if is hypercyclic and the set of its periodic vectors is dense in as well. We show that a spectral condition introduced by Desch, Schappacher and Webb requiring many eigenvectors of the generator which depend analytically on the eigenvalues not only implies the chaoticity of the semigroup but the chaoticity of every . Furthermore, we show that semigroups whose generators have compact resolvent are never chaotic. In a second part we prove the existence of hypercyclic vectors in for a hypercyclic semigroup , where is its generator.

The class of -lattices was originally defined in the second author's thesis and subsequently by Longstaff, Nation, and Panaia. A subspace lattice on a Banach space which is also a -lattice is called a -subspace lattice, abbreviated JSL. It is demonstrated that every single element of has rank at most one. It is also shown that has the strong finite rank decomposability property. Let and be subspace lattices that are also JSL's on the Banach spaces and , respectively. The two properties just referred to, when combined, show that every algebraic isomorphism between and preserves rank. Finally we prove that every algebraic isomorphism between and is quasi-spatial.

If is a Hilbert space, is a positive bounded linear operator on and is a closed subspace of , the relative position between and establishes a notion of compatibility. We show that the compatibility of is equivalent to the existence of a convenient orthogonal projection in the operator range with its canonical Hilbertian structure.

We prove that given a compact -dimensional boundaryless manifold , , there exists a residual subset of the space of diffeomorphisms such that given any chain-transitive set of , then either admits a dominated splitting or else is contained in the closure of an infinite number of periodic sinks/sources. This result generalizes the generic dichotomy for homoclinic classes given by Bonatti, Diaz, and Pujals (2003).

It follows from the above result that given a -generic diffeomorphism , then either the nonwandering set may be decomposed into a finite number of pairwise disjoint compact sets each of which admits a dominated splitting, or else exhibits infinitely many periodic sinks/sources (the `` Newhouse phenomenon"). This result answers a question of Bonatti, Diaz, and Pujals and generalizes the generic dichotomy for surface diffeomorphisms given by Mañé (1982).

Given the disk algebra and an automorphism , there is associated a non-self-adjoint operator algebra called the semicrossed product of with . Buske and Peters showed that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the contractive Hilbert modules over and pairs of contractions and on satisfying . In this paper, we show that the orthogonally projective and Shilov Hilbert modules over correspond to pairs of isometries on satisfying . The problem of commutant lifting for is left open, but some related results are presented.  相似文献

In this paper we generalize a result of Hopenwasser and Plastiras (1997) that gives a geometric condition under which into isometries from to have a unique extension to an isometry in . We show that when and are separable reflexive Banach spaces having the metric approximation property with strictly convex and smooth and such that is a Hahn-Banach smooth subspace of , any nice into isometry has a unique extension to an isometry in .

Let be a fat point subscheme of , and let be a linear form such that some power of vanishes on (i.e., the support of lies in the hyperplane defined by , regarded as ). Let , where is the subscheme of residual to ; note that is a fat points subscheme of . In this paper we give a graded free resolution of the ideal over , in terms of the graded minimal free resolutions of the ideals . We also give a criterion for when the resolution is minimal, and we show that this criterion always holds if .
