The Dirichlet problem for the fractional Laplacian: Regularity up to the boundary

We study the regularity up to the boundary of solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the fractional Laplacian. We prove that if u   is a solution of (−Δ)^su=g${(-\mathrm{\Delta })}^{s}u=g$ in Ω  , u≡0$u\equiv 0$ in Rⁿ\Ω${\mathbb{R}}^n\backslash \Omega$, for some s∈(0,1)$s\in (0,1)$ and g∈L^∞(Ω)$g\in L^{\infty }(\Omega )$, then u   is C^s(Rⁿ)$C^s({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ and u/δ^s_|Ω$u/{\delta }^s{|}_{\Omega }$ is C^α$C^{\alpha }$ up to the boundary ∂Ω   for some α∈(0,1)$\alpha \in (0,1)$, where δ(x)=dist(x,∂Ω)$\delta (x)=\mathrm{dist}(x,\partial \Omega )$. For this, we develop a fractional analog of the Krylov boundary Harnack method.     

Unbounded order convergence in dual spaces

A net (_xα)$(x_{\alpha })$ in a vector lattice X   is said to be unbounded order convergent (or uo-convergent, for short) to x∈X$x\in X$ if the net (|_xα−x|∧y)$(|x_{\alpha }-x|\wedge y)$ converges to 0 in order for all y∈_X+$y\in X_{+}$. In this paper, we study unbounded order convergence in dual spaces of Banach lattices. Let X   be a Banach lattice. We prove that every norm bounded uo-convergent net in X^?$X^{?}$ is w^?$w^{?}$-convergent iff X   has order continuous norm, and that every w^?$w^{?}$-convergent net in X^?$X^{?}$ is uo-convergent iff X is atomic with order continuous norm. We also characterize among σ  -order complete Banach lattices the spaces in whose dual space every simultaneously uo- and w^?$w^{?}$-convergent sequence converges weakly/in norm.     

Some Liouville-type theorems for harmonic functions on Finsler manifolds

In this paper, we give some Liouville-type theorems for L^p$L^p$(p∈R)$(p\in \mathbb{R})$ harmonic (resp. subharmonic, superharmonic) functions on forward complete Finsler manifolds. Moreover, we derive a gradient estimate for harmonic functions on a closed Finsler manifold. As an application, one obtains that any harmonic function on a closed Finsler manifold with nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature _RicN${\mathit{Ric}}_N$(N∈(n,∞))$(N\in (n,\infty ))$ must be constant.     

p-Laplacian boundary value problems on exterior regions

This paper treats some variational principles for solutions of inhomogeneous p  -Laplacian boundary value problems on exterior regions U?R^N$U?{\mathbb{R}}^N$ with dimension N?3$N?3$. Existence-uniqueness results when p∈(1,N)$p\in (1,N)$ are provided in a space E^1,p(U)$E^{1,p}(U)$ of functions that contains W^1,p(U)$W^{1,p}(U)$. Functions in E^1,p(U)$E^{1,p}(U)$ are required to decay at infinity in a measure theoretic sense. Various properties of this space are derived, including results about equivalent norms, traces and an L^p$L^p$-imbedding theorem. Also an existence result for a general variational problem of this type is obtained.     

Spectral problems of a class of non-self-adjoint one-dimensional Schrodinger operators

In this paper we investigate the one-dimensional Schrodinger operator L(q)$L(q)$ with complex-valued periodic potential q   when q∈_L1[0,1]$q\in L_1[0,1]$ and _qn=0$q_n=0$ for n=0,−1,−2,...$n=0,-1,-2,...$, where _qn$q_n$ are the Fourier coefficients of q   with respect to the system {e^i2πnx}$\{e^{i2\pi nx}\}$. We prove that the Bloch eigenvalues are (2πn+t)²${(2\pi n+t)}^2$ for n∈Z$n\in \mathbb{Z}$, t∈C$t\in \mathbb{C}$ and find explicit formulas for the Bloch functions. Then we consider the inverse problem for this operator.     

Orthogonally additive polynomials on Fourier algebras

We show that an n-homogeneous polynomial P   on the Fourier algebra A(G)$A(G)$ of a locally compact group G   can be represented in the form P(f)=〈T,fⁿ〉$P(f)=〈T,f^n〉$(f∈A(G))$(f\in A(G))$ for some T   in the group von Neumann algebra VN(G)$\mathit{VN}(G)$ of G if and only if it is orthogonally additive and completely bounded.     

A note on irreducible,infinite Coxeter groups

A new proof is given for the statement: For an irreducible, infinite Coxeter group (W,S)$(W,S)$ and w∈W$w\in W$, if wSw^-1=S${\mathit{wSw}}^{-1}=S$, then w=1$w=1$ (the identity element of W).     

Continuous weak selections for products

A weak selection on an infinite set X   is a function σ:[X]²→X$\sigma :{[X]}^2\to X$ such that σ({x,y})∈{x,y}$\sigma (\{x,y\})\in \{x,y\}$ for each {x,y}∈[X]²$\{x,y\}\in {[X]}^2$. A weak selection on a space is said to be continuous if it is a continuous function with respect to the Vietoris topology on [X]²${[X]}^2$ and the topology on X  . We study some topological consequences from the existence of a continuous weak selection on the product X×Y$X\times Y$ for the following particular cases:

A semilinear elliptic problem on unbounded domains with reverse penalty

In the well-known work of P.-L. Lions [The concentration–compactness principle in the calculus of variations, The locally compact case, part 1. Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré, Analyse Non Linéaire 1 (1984) 109–1453] existence of positive solutions to the equation -Δu+u=b(x)u^p-1$-\mathrm{\Delta }u+u=b(x)u^{p-1}$, u>0$u>0$, u∈H¹(R^N)$u\in H^1({\mathbb{R}}^N)$, p∈(2,2N/(N-2))$p\in (2,2N/(N-2))$ was proved under assumption b(x)?_b∞?_lim|x|→∞b(x)$b(x)?b_{\infty }?{\lim }_{\left|x\right|\to \infty }b(x)$. In this paper we prove the existence for certain functions b   satisfying the reverse inequality b(x)<_b∞$b(x)<b_{\infty }$. For any periodic lattice L   in R^N${\mathbb{R}}^N$ and for any b∈C(R^N)$b\in C({\mathbb{R}}^N)$ satisfying b(x)<_b∞$b(x)<b_{\infty }$, _b∞>0$b_{\infty }>0$, there is a finite set Y⊂L$Y\subset L$ and a convex combination b^Y$b^Y$ of b(·-y)$b(·-y)$, y∈Y$y\in Y$, such that the problem -Δu+u=b^Y(x)u^p-1$-\mathrm{\Delta }u+u=b^Y(x)u^{p-1}$ has a positive solution u∈H¹(R^N)$u\in H^1({\mathbb{R}}^N)$.     

Gaussian bounds for higher-order elliptic differential operators with Kato type potentials

Let P(D)$P(D)$ be a nonnegative homogeneous elliptic operator of order 2m   with real constant coefficients on Rⁿ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ and V   be a suitable real measurable function. In this paper, we are mainly devoted to establish the Gaussian upper bound for Schrödinger type semigroup e^−tH$e^{-tH}$ generated by H=P(D)+V$H=P(D)+V$ with Kato type perturbing potential V  , which naturally generalizes the classical result for Schrödinger semigroup e^−t(Δ+V)$e^{-t(\mathrm{\Delta }+V)}$ as V∈_K2(Rⁿ)$V\in K_2({\mathbb{R}}^n)$, the famous Kato potential class. Our proof significantly depends on the analyticity of the free semigroup e^−tP(D)$e^{-tP(D)}$ on L¹(Rⁿ)$L^1({\mathbb{R}}^n)$. As a consequence of the Gaussian upper bound, the L^p$L^p$-spectral independence of H is concluded.     

The topological structure of fuzzy sets with sendograph metric

For a non-degenerate convex subset Y of the n  -dimensional Euclidean space Rⁿ${\mathbb{R}}^n$, let F(Y)$\mathbb{F}(Y)$ be the family of all fuzzy sets of Rⁿ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ which are upper semicontinuous, fuzzy convex and normal with compact supports contained in Y  . We show that the space F(Y)$\mathbb{F}(Y)$ with the topology of sendograph metric is homeomorphic to the separable Hilbert space ?²${?}^2$ if Y   is compact; and the space F(Rⁿ)$\mathbb{F}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ is also homeomorphic to ?²${?}^2$.     

On rigidity of Roe algebras

Roe algebras are C^?$C^{?}$-algebras built using large scale (or ‘coarse’) aspects of a metric space (X,d)$(X,d)$. In the special case that X=Γ$X=\Gamma$ is a finitely generated group and d   is a word metric, the simplest Roe algebra associated to (Γ,d)$(\Gamma ,d)$ is isomorphic to the crossed product C^?$C^{?}$-algebra l^∞(Γ)_?rΓ$l^{\infty }(\Gamma ){?}_r\Gamma$.
