For the horizontal generating functions Pn(z)=∑nk=1 S(nk) zk of the Stirling numbers of the second kind, strong asymptotics are established, as n→∞. By using the saddle point method for Qn(z)=Pn(nz) there are two main results: an oscillating asymptotic for z(−e, 0) and a uniform asymptotic on every compact subset of \[−e, 0]. We introduce a new condition for {Yτn} to have the same asymptotic distribution that {Yn} has, where {Yn} is a sequence of random elements of a metric space (S, d) and {τn} is a sequence of random indices. The condition on {Yn} is that maxiDnd(Yi, Yan)→p0 as n → ∞, where Dn = {i: |kikan| ≤ δankan} and {δn} is a nonincreasing sequence of positive numbers. The condition on {τn} is that P(|(kτn/kan)−1| > δan) → 0 as n → ∞. Under these conditions, we will show that d(Yτn, Yan) → P0 and apply this result to the CLT for a general class of sequences of dependent random variables.  相似文献

A well-known result of Rivlin states that if p(z) is a polynomial of degree n, such that p(z) ≠ 0 in |z| < 1, then max|z|=r < 1 |p(z)| ≤ ((r + 1)/2)n max|z| = 1 |p(z)|. In this paper, we consider the polynomial p(z) = a0 + Σnv = μaυzυ having all its zeros in |z| ≤ k > 1 and obtain a generalization of this result. Our result improves upon a result recently proved by Bidkham and Dewan (J. Math. Anal. Appl.166 (1992), 19-324).  相似文献

Let μ be a compactly supported finite Borel measure in ℂ, and let Πn be the space of holomorphic polynomials of degree at most n furnished with the norm of L 2(μ). We study the logarithmic asymptotic expansions of the norms of the evaluation functionals that relate to polynomials p ∈ Πn their values at a point z ∈ ℂ. The main results demonstrate how the asymptotic behavior depends on regularity of the complement of the support of μ and the Stahl-Totik regularity of the measure. The asymptotic behavior of quadratic Hermite–Padé polynomials associated with the exponential function is studied for n→∞. These polynomials are defined by the relation

where O(·) denotes Landau's symbol. In the investigation analytic expressions are proved for the asymptotics of the polynomials, for the asymptotics of the remainder term in (*), and also for the arcs on which the zeros of the polynomials and of the remainder term cluster if the independent variable z is rescaled in an appropriate way. The asymptotic expressions are defined with the help of an algebraic function of third degree and its associated Riemann surface. Among other possible applications, the results form the basis for the investigation of the convergence of quadratic Hermite–Padé approximants, which will be done in a follow-up paper.  相似文献

For a discrete group G, we consider βG, the Stone– ech compactification of G, as a right topological semigroup, and G*GG as a subsemigroup of βG. We study the mappings λp* :G*G*and μ* :G*G*, the restrictions to G* of the mappings λpG→βG and μ :βG→βG, defined by the rules λp(q)=pq, μ(q)=qq. A Z-cyclic triplewhist tournament for 4n+1 players, or briefly a TWh(4n+1), is equivalent to a n-set {(ai, bi, ci, di) | i=1, …, n} of quadruples partitioning Z4n+1−{0} with the property that ni=1 {±(aici), ±(bidi)}=ni=1 {±(aibi), ±(cidi)}=ni=1 {±(aidi), ±(bici)}=Z4n+1−{0}. The existence problem for Z-cyclic TWh(p)'s with p a prime has been solved for p1 (mod 16). I. Anderson et al. (1995, Discrete Math.138, 31–41) treated the case of p≡5 (mod 8) while Y. S. Liaw (1996, J. Combin. Des.4, 219–233) and G. McNay (1996, Utilitas Math.49, 191–201) treated the case of p≡9 (mod 16). In this paper, besides giving easier proofs of these authors' results, we solve the problem also for primes p≡1 (mod 16). The final result is the existence of a Z-cyclic TWh(v) for any v whose prime factors are all≡1 (mod 4) and distinct from 5, 13, and 17.  相似文献

Let X be a Banach space and Y a finite-dimensional subspace of X. Let P be a minimal projection of X onto Y. It is shown (Theorem 1.1) that under certain conditions there exist sequences of finite-dimensional “approximating subspaces” Xm and Ym of X with corresponding minimal projections Pm: XmYm, such that limm→∞ Pm = P. Moreover, a certain related sequence of projections imPm○πm: XY has cluster points in the strong operator topology, each of which is a minimal projection of X onto Y. When X = C[a, b] the result reduces to a theorem of [7.]. It is shown (Corollary 1.11) that the hypothesis of Theorem 1.1 holds in many important Banach spaces, including C[a, b], LP[a, b] and lP for 1 p < ∞, and c0, the space of sequences converging to zero in the sup norm.  相似文献
