In this paper, we study a discrete time queueing system with multiple types of customers and a first-come-first-served (FCFS) service discipline. Customers arrive according to a semi-Markov arrival process and the service times of individual customers have PH-distributions. A GI/M/1 type Markov chain for a generalized age process of batches of customers is introduced. The steady state distribution of the GI/M/1 type Markov chain is found explicitly and, consequently, the steady state distributions of the age of the batch in service, the total workload in the system, waiting times, and sojourn times of different batches and different types of customers are obtained. We show that the generalized age process and a generalized total workload process have the same steady state distribution. We prove that the waiting times and sojourn times have PH-distributions and find matrix representations of those PH-distributions. When the arrival process is a Markov arrival process with marked transitions, we construct a QBD process for the age process and the total workload process. The steady state distributions of the waiting times and the sojourn times, both at the batch level and the customer level, are obtained from the steady state distribution of the QBD process. A number of numerical examples are presented to gain insight into the waiting processes of different types of customers.AMS subject classification: 60K25, 60J10This revised version was published online in June 2005 with corrected coverdate  相似文献

This paper studies a single server queueing system with multiple types of customers. The first part of the paper discusses some modeling issues associated with the Markov arrival processes with marked arrivals (MMAP[K], where K is an integer representing the number of types of customers). The usefulness of MMAP[K] in modeling point processes is shown by a number of interesting examples. The second part of the paper studies a single server queueing system with an MMAP[K] as its input process. The busy period, virtual waiting time, and actual waiting times are studied. The focus is on the actual waiting times of individual types of customers. Explicit formulas are obtained for the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms of these actual waiting times.  相似文献

This paper studies a multi-server queueing system with multiple types of customers and last-come-first-served (LCFS) non-preemptive service discipline. First, a quasi-birth-and-death (QBD) Markov process with a tree structure is defined and some classical results of QBD Markov processes are generalized. Second, the MMAP[K]/PH[K]/N/LCFS non-preemptive queue is introduced. Using results of the QBD Markov process with a tree structure, explicit formulas are derived and an efficient algorithm is developed for computing the stationary distribution of queue strings. Numerical examples are presented to show the impact of the correlation and the pattern of the arrival process on the queueing process of each type of customer.  相似文献

We study a PH/G/1 queue in which the arrival process and the service times depend on the state of an underlying Markov chain J(t) on a countable state spaceE. We derive the busy period process, waiting time and idle time of this queueing system. We also study the Markov modulated EK/G/1 queueing system as a special case.  相似文献

This paper studies two queueing systems with a Markov arrival process with marked arrivals and PH-distribution service times for each type of customer. Customers (regardless of their types) are served on a last-come-first-served preemptive resume and repeat basis, respectively. The focus is on the stationary distribution of queue strings in the system and busy periods. Efficient algorithms are developed for computing the stationary distribution of queue strings, the mean numbers of customers served in a busy period, and the mean length of a busy period. Comparison is conducted numerically between performance measures of queueing systems with preemptive resume and preemptive repeat service disciplines. A counter-intuitive observation is that for a class of service time distributions, the repeat discipline performs better than the resume one. We obtain the exact convergence rate of the stationary distribution (K) of the embedded Markov chain in GI/M/c/K queue to the stationary distribution of the embedded Markov chain in GI/M/c queue as K. Similar result for the time-stationary distributions of queue size is also included. These generalize Choi and Kim's results of the case c=1 by nontrivial ways. Our results also strengthen the Simonot's results [5].  相似文献

In this paper we introduce the adaptive MMAP[K] arrival process and analyze the adaptive MMAP[K]/PH[K]/1 queue. In such a queueing system, customers of K different types with Markovian inter-arrival times and possibly correlated customer types, are fed to a single server queue that makes use of r thresholds. Service times are phase-type and depend on the type of customer in service. Type k customers are accepted with some probability ai,k if the current workload is between threshold i − 1 and i. The manner in which the arrival process changes its state after generating a type k customer also depends on whether the customer is accepted or rejected.  相似文献

The departure process of a queueing system has been studied since the 1960s. Due to its inherent complexity, closed form solutions for the distribution of the departure process are nearly intractable. In this paper, we derive a closed form expression for the distribution of interdeparture time in a GI/G/1 queueing model. Without loss of generality, we consider an embedded Markov chain in a general KM/G/1 queueing system, in which the interarrival time distribution is Coxian and service time distribution is general. Closed form solutions of the equilibrium distribution are derived for this model and the Laplace–Stieltjes transform (LST) of the distribution of interdeparture times is presented. An algorithmic computing procedure is given and numerical examples are provided to illustrate the results. With the analysis presented, we provide a novel analytic tool for studying the departure process in a general queueing model.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that the discrete GI/G/1 system can be easily analysed as a QBD process with infinite blocks by using the elapsed time approach in conjunction with the Matrix-geometric approach. The positive recurrence of the resulting Markov chain is more easily established when compared with the remaining time approach. The G-measure associated with this Markov chain has a special structure which is usefully exploited. Most importantly, we show that this approach can be extended to the analysis of the GI X /G/1 system. We also obtain the distributions of the queue length, busy period and waiting times under the FIFO rule. Exact results, based on computational approach, are obtained for the cases of input parameters with finite support – these situations are more commonly encountered in practical problems.  相似文献

We study a GI/M/c type queueing system with vacations in which all servers take vacations together when the system becomes empty. These servers keep taking synchronous vacations until they find waiting customers in the system at a vacation completion instant. The vacation time is a phase-type (PH) distributed random variable. Using embedded Markov chain modeling and the matrix geometric solution methods, we obtain explicit expressions for the stationary probability distributions of the queue length at arrivals and the waiting time. To compare the vacation model with the classical GI/M/c queue without vacations, we prove conditional stochastic decomposition properties for the queue length and the waiting time when all servers are busy. Our model is a generalization of several previous studies.  相似文献

This paper proposes a polynomial factorization approach for queue length distribution of discrete time GI X /G/1 and GI X /G/1/K queues. They are analyzed by using a two-component state model at the arrival and departure instants of customers. The equilibrium state-transition equations of state probabilities are solved by a polynomial factorization method. Finally, the queue length distributions are then obtained as linear combinations of geometric series, whose parameters are evaluated from roots of a characteristic polynomial.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the investigation for sufficient conditions of the strong stability of the embedded Markov chain in GI/M/1 queueing system with negative customers. After perturbing the occurrence rate of the negative customers, we prove the strong stability of the considered Markov chain with respect to a convenient weight variation norm. Furthermore, we estimate the deviation of its transition operators and provide an upper bound to the approximation error. This results allow us to understand how the negative customers will affect the system’s level of performance.  相似文献

In this paper we presents a martingale method for analysing queues of M/G/1 type, which have been generalised so that the system passes through a series of phases on which the service behaviour may differ. The analysis uses the process embedded at departures to create a martingale, which makes possible the calculation of the probability generating function of the stationary occupancy distribution. Specific examples are given, for instance, a model of an unreliable queueing system, and an example of a queue-length-threshold overload-control system.  相似文献

This paper analyses a discrete-time Geo/G/1 retrial queue with batch arrivals in which individual arriving customers have a control of admission. We study the underlying Markov chain at the epochs immediately after the slot boundaries making emphasis on the computation of its steady-state distribution. To this end we employ numerical inversion and maximum entropy techniques. We also establish a stochastic decomposition property and prove that the continuous-time M/G/1 retrial queue with batch arrivals and control of admission can be approximated by our discrete-time system. The outcomes agree with known results for special cases.  相似文献

We consider the M/G/1 queueing system in which customers whose admission to the system would increase the workload beyond a prespecified finite capacity limit are not accepted. Various results on the distribution of the workload are derived; in particular, we give explicit formulas for its stationary distribution for M/M/1 and in the general case, under the preemptive LIFO discipline, for the joint stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system and their residual service times. Furthermore, the Laplace transform of the length of a busy period is determined. Finally, for M/D/1 the busy period distribution is derived in closed form.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically. A multi-server retrial queueing model with Batch Markovian Arrival Process and phase-type service time distribution is analyzed. The continuous-time multi-dimensional Markov chain describing the behavior of the system is investigated by means of reducing it to the corresponding discrete-time multi-dimensional Markov chain. The latter belongs to the class of multi-dimensional quasi-Toeplitz Markov chains in the case of a constant retrial rate and to the class of multi-dimensional asymptotically quasi-Toeplitz Markov chains in the case of an infinitely increasing retrial rate. It allows to obtain the existence conditions for the stationary distribution and to elaborate the algorithms for calculating the stationary state probabilities.  相似文献

This paper describes Bayesian inference and prediction for some M/G/1 queueing models. Cases when the service distribution is Erlang, hyperexponential and hyperexponential with a random number of components are considered. Monte Carlo and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are used for estimation of quantities of interest assuming the queue is in equilibrium. In the present, we introduce and study the G-\mathcal{G-}inhomogeneous Markov system of high order, which is a more general in many respects stochastic process than the known inhomogeneous Markov system. We define the inhomogeneous superficial razor cut mixture transition distribution model extending for the homogeneous case the idea of the mixture transition model. With the introduction of the appropriate vector stochastic process and the establishment of relationships among them, we study the asymptotic behaviour of the G-\mathcal{G-}inhomogeneous Markov system of high order. In the form of two theorems, the asymptotic behaviour of the inherent G-\mathcal{G-}inhomogeneous Markov chain and the expected and relative expected population structure of the G-\mathcal{G-}inhomogeneous Markov system of high order, are provided under assumptions easily met in practice. Finally, we provide an illustration of the present results in a manpower system.  相似文献
