Abstract

Examples are provided which demonstrate that in many cases topological products do not behave as they should. A new product for topological spaces is defined in a natural way by means of interior covers. In general this is no longer a topological space but can be interpreted as categorical product in a category larger than Top. For compact spaces the new product coincides with the old. There is a converse: For symmetric topological spaces X the following conditions are equivalent: (1) X is compact; (2) for each cardinal k the old and the new product Xk coincide; (3) for each compact Hausdorff space Y the old and the new product X x Y coincide. The new product preserves paracompactness, zero-dimensionality (in the covering sense), the Lindelöf property, and regular-closedness. With respect to the new product, a space is N-complete iff it is zerodimensional and R-complete.  相似文献

The set C(X,Y) of continuous functions from a topological space X into a topological space Y is extended to the set D(X,Y) of densely continuous forms from X to Y, such form being a kind of multifunction from X to Y. The topologies of pointwise convergence, uniform convergence, and uniform convergence on compact sets are defined for D(X,Y), for locally compact spaces X and metric spaces Y having a metric satisfying the Heine–Borel property. Under these assumptions, D(X,Y) with the uniform topology is shown to be completely metrizable. In addition, if X is compact, D(X,Y) is completely metrizable under the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets. For this latter topology, an Ascoli theorem is established giving necessary and sufficient conditions for a subset of D(X,Y) to be compact.  相似文献

We prove that a connected topological space with endpoints has exactly two non-cut points and every cut point is a strong cut point; it follows that such a space is a COTS and the only two non-cut points turn out to be endpoints (in each of the two orders) of the COTS. A non-indiscrete connected topological space with exactly two non-cut points and having only finitely many closed points is proved homeomorphic to a finite subspace of the Khalimsky line. Further, it is shown, without assuming any separation axiom, that in a connected and locally connected topological space X, for a, b in X, S[a,b] is compact whenever it is closed. Using this result we show that an H(i) connected and locally connected topological space with exactly two non-cut points is a compact COTS with end points.  相似文献

LetC(X,Y) be the space of continuous functions from a metric space (X,d) to a metric space (Y, e).C(X, Y) can be thought as subset of the hyperspaceCL(X×Y) of closed and nonempty subsets ofX×Y by identifying each element ofC(X,Y) with its graph. We considerC(X,Y) with the topology inherited from the Wijsman topology induced onCL(X×Y) by the box metric ofd ande. We study the relationships between the Wijsman topology and the compact-open topology onC(X,Y) and also conditions under which the Wijsman topology coincide with the Fell topology. Sufficient conditions under which the compactopen topology onC(X,Y) is weaker than the Wijsman topology are given (IfY is totally bounded, then for every metric spaceX the compactopen topology onC(X,Y) is weaker than the Wijsman topology and the same is true forX locally connected andY rim-totally bounded). We prove that a metric spaceX is boundedly compact iff the Wijsman topology onC(X, ℝ) is weaker than the compact-open topology. We show that ifX is a σ-compact complete metric space andY a compact metric space, then the Wijsman topology onC(X,Y) is Polish.  相似文献

We prove that: (i) a pathwise connected, Hausdorff space which has a continuous selection is homeomorphic to one of the following four spaces: singleton, [0,1), [0,1] or the long lineL, (ii) a locally connected (Hausdorff) space which has a continuous selection must be orderable, and (iii) an infinite connected, Hausdorff space has exactly two continuous selections if and only if it is compact and orderable. We use these results to give various characterizations of intervals via continuous selections. For instance, (iv) a topological spaceX is homeomorphic to [0,1] if (and only if)X is infinite, separable, connected, Hausdorff space and has exactly two continuous selections, and (v) a topological spaceX is homeomorphic to [0,1) if (and only if) one of the following equivalent conditions holds: (a)X is infinite, Hausdorff, separable, pathwise connected and has exactly one continuous selection; (b)X is infinite, separable, locally connected and has exactly one continuous selection; (c)X is infinite, metric, locally connected and has exactly one continuous selection. In this paper we prove thatC(X,Y) is an absolute retract ifX is a locally compact separable metric space andY a convex set in a Banach space. In this paper, we introduce the notion of expanding topological space. We define the topological expansion of a topological space via local multi-homeomorphism over coproduct topology, and we prove that the coproduct family associated to any fractal family of topological spaces is expanding. In particular, we prove that the more a topological space expands, the finer the topology of its indexed states is. Using multi-homeomorphisms over associated coproduct topological spaces, we define a locally expandable topological space and we prove that a locally expandable topological space has a topological expansion. Specifically, we prove that the fractal manifold is locally expandable and has a topological expansion.  相似文献

We investigate some generalized metric space properties on paratopological (semitopological) groups and prove that a paratopological group that is quasi-metrizable by a left continuous, left-invariant quasi-metric is a topological group and give a negative answer to Ravsky?s question (Ravsky, 2001 [18, Question 3.1]). It is also shown that an uncountable paratopological group that is a closed image of a separable, locally compact metric space is a topological group. Finally, we discuss Hausdorff compactification of paratopological (semitopological) groups, give an affirmative answer to Lin and Shen?s question (Lin and Shen, 2011 [14, Question 6.9]) and improve an Arhangel?skii and Choban?s theorem. The concept of locally strong compactness on domains is generalized to general topological spaces. It is proved that for each distributive hypercontinuous lattice L, the space SpecL of nonunit prime elements endowed with the hull-kernel topology is locally strongly compact, and for each locally strongly compact space X, the complete lattice of all open sets O(X) is distributive hypercontinuous. For the case of distributive hyperalgebraic lattices, the similar result is given. For a sober space X, it is shown that there is an order reversing isomorphism between the set of upper-open filters of the lattice O(X) of open subsets of X and the set of strongly compact saturated subsets of X, which is analogous to the well-known Hofmann-Mislove Theorem.  相似文献

In the literature there exist examples of separable metric spaces X,Y whose Cartesian product X × Y is not a product in the shape category Sh(Top). It is an open question whether, for X a compact Hausdorff space, X × Y is a product in Sh(Top), for every topological spaces Y. Although the coordinate ternary field of a topological affine plane is topological, the converse does not hold. However, an affine plane is topological precisely when its coordinate biternary fields are topological. We extend this result to topological biternary rings and their topological affine Klingenberg planes. Then we examine the locally compact situation. Finally, following the ideas of Knarr and Weigand, we show that in certain circumstances, the continuity of the ternary operators is sufficient to ensure that the biternary ring is topological. We characterize quasi-metrizable bispaces that admit only bicomplete quasimetrics by means of doubly primitive sequences, and deduce that if (X, S, T) is a quasi-metrizable bispace admitting only bicomplete quasi-metrics and either (X, S) or (X, T) is hereditarily Lindelöf, then (X, S ∨ T) is compact. We also give an example which shows that hereditary Lindelöfness cannot be omitted in the above result. Finally, we show that a quasi-pseudometrizable bispace (X, S, T) admits only totally bounded quasi-pseudometrics if and only if (X, S ∨ T) is compact, and deduce that a quasi-pseudometrizable topological space admits only totally bounded quasi-pseudometrics if and only if it is hereditarily compact and quasi-sober (equivalently, if and only if it admits a unique quasi-uniformity).  相似文献

Abstract

Local compactness is studied in the highly convenient setting of semi-uniform convergence spaces which form a common generalization of (symmetric) limit spaces (and thus of symmetric topological spaces) as well as of uniform limit spaces (and thus of uniform spaces). It turns out that it leads to a cartesian closed topological category and, in contrast to the situation for topological spaces, the local compact spaces are exactly the compactly generated spaces. Furthermore, a one-point Hausdorff compactification for noncompact locally compact Hausdorff convergence spaces is considered.1  相似文献
