We consider optimal preventive maintenance for homogeneous and heterogeneous systems with major (critical) and minor (noncritical) failures. A major failure results in a replacement of a failed system, whereas minor failures can be minimally instantaneously repaired. Distinct from the homogeneous case, where the process of minimal repairs is the Poisson process, the process of minimal repairs in the heterogeneous case is the mixed Poisson process that does not possess the memoryless property. This enables considering the number of minimal repairs as the decision parameter for the corresponding optimal preventive maintenance policy. The proposed approach is theoretically justified, and the detailed illustrative numerical examples are presented.  相似文献

This paper discusses a condition based maintenance model with exponential failures and fixed inspection intervals for a two-unit system in series. The condition of each unit, such as vibration or heat, is monitored at equidistant time intervals. The condition indicator variables for each unit are used to decide whether to repair an individual unit or to overhaul the whole system. After a maintenance action is performed the monitored condition indicator variable takes on its initial value. Each unit can fail only once within an inspection interval and when one or both units fail the system fails. The probability of failure is exponential and the failure rate is dependent on the condition. The cost to be minimized is the long-run average cost of maintenance actions and failures. We study the optimal solution to this problem obtained via dynamic programming.  相似文献

This paper considers a competing risk (degradation and sudden failure) maintenance situation. A maintenance model and a repair cost model are presented. The degradation state of the units is continuously monitored. When either the degradation level reaches a predetermined threshold or a sudden failure occurs before the unit reaches the degradation threshold level, the unit is immediately repaired (renewed) and restored to operation. The subsequent repair times increase with the number of renewals. This process is repeated until a predetermined time is reached for preventive maintenance to be performed. The optimal maintenance schedule that maximizes the unit availability subject to repair cost constraint is determined in terms of the degradation threshold level and the time to perform preventive maintenance.  相似文献

This paper considers a number-dependent replacement policy for a system with two failure types that is replaced at the nth type I (minor) failure or the first type II (catastrophic) failure, whichever occurs first. Repair or replacement times are instantaneous but spare/replacement unit delivery lead times are random. Type I failures are repaired at zero cost since preventive maintenance is performed continuously. Type II failures, however, require costly system replacement. A model is developed for the average cost per unit time based on the stochastic behavior of the system and replacement, storage, and downtime costs. The cost-minimizing policy is derived and discussed. We show that the optimal number of type I failures triggering replacement is unique under certain conditions. A numerical example is presented and a sensitivity analysis is performed.  相似文献

This paper develops availability and maintenance models for single‐unit systems subject to dependent hard and soft failures. A hard failure stops the system immediately, whereas a soft failure only reduces the performance capacity of the system. Dependence between these 2 types of failures is reflected in the fact that each soft failure directly increases the hazard rate of the hard failure. On the basis of such interaction, we derive recursive equations for the system reliability and availability functions. To detect both types of failures, inspections are executed periodically. Furthermore, we investigate the optimal inspection policy via the minimization of the expected cost per unit time. The applicability of the developed availability and maintenance models is validated by a case study on an electrical distribution system.  相似文献

In this paper, the maintenance problem for a deteriorating system with k + 1 failure modes, including an unrepairable failure (catastrophic failure) mode and k repairable failure (non-catastrophic failure) modes, is studied. Assume that the system after repair is not “as good as new” and its deterioration is stochastic. Under these assumptions, an extended replacement policy N is considered: the system will be replaced whenever the number of repairable failures reaches N or the unrepairable failure occurs, whichever occurs first. Our purpose is to determine an optimal extended policy N such that the average cost rate (i.e. the long-run average cost per unit time) of the system is minimized. The explicit expression of the average cost rate is derived, and the corresponding optimal extended policy N can be determined analytically or numerically. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate some theoretical results of the repair model proposed in this paper.  相似文献

A novel optimal preventive maintenance policy for a cold standby system consisting of two components and a repairman is described herein. The repairman is to be responsible for repairing either failed component and maintaining the working components under certain guidelines. To model the operational process of the system, some reasonable assumptions are made and all times involved in the assumptions are considered to be arbitrary and independent. Under these assumptions, all system states and transition probabilities between them are analyzed based on a semi-Markov theory and a regenerative point technique. Markov renewal equations are constructed with the convolution of the cumulative distribution function of system time in each state and corresponding transition probability. By using the Laplace transform to solve these equations, the mean time from the initial state to system failure is derived. The optimal preventive maintenance policy that will provide the optimal preventive maintenance cycle is identified by maximizing the mean time from the initial state to system failure, and is determined in the form of a theorem. Finally, a numerical example and simulation experiments are shown which validated the effectiveness of the policy.  相似文献

We present an economic model for the optimization of preventive maintenance in a production process with two quality states. The equipment starts its operation in the in-control state but it may shift to the out-of-control state before failure or scheduled preventive maintenance. The time of shift and the time of failure are generally distributed random variables. The two states are characterized by different failure rates and revenues. We first derive the structure of the optimal maintenance policy, which is defined by two critical values of the equipment age that determine when to perform preventive maintenance depending on the actual (observable) state of the process. We then provide properties of the optimal solution and show how to determine the optimal values of the two critical maintenance times accurately and efficiently. The proposed model and, in particular, the behavior of the optimal solution as the model parameters and the shift and failure time distributions change are illustrated through numerical examples.  相似文献

We consider a manufacturing system in which an input generating installation transfers a raw material to a subsequent production unit. Both machines deteriorate stochastically with usage and may fail. For each machine the deteriorating process is described by some known transition probabilities between different degrees of deterioration. A buffer has been built between the two machines in order to cope with unexpected failures of the installation. A discrete-time Markov decision model is formulated for the optimal preventive maintenance of both machines. The maintenance times are geometrically distributed and the cost structure includes operating costs, storage costs, maintenance costs and costs due to the lost production. It is proved that for fixed buffer content and for fixed deterioration degree of one machine, the average-cost optimal policy initiates a preventive maintenance of the other machine if and only if its degree of deterioration exceeds some critical level. We study, by means of numerical results, the effect of the variation of some parameters on the optimal policy and on the minimum average cost. For the case in which the maintenance times follow continuous distributions, an approximate discrete-time Markov decision model is proposed.  相似文献

This paper proposes an integrated model of statistical process control and condition-based maintenance for a deteriorating system. We study a system that will not be as good as new after a preventive maintenance and can only survive a certain number of preventive maintenances. The system is modeled as a geometric process and monitored by an \(\bar{X}\) control chart. By analyzing the evolution of the system in different scenarios, we establish a mathematical model to minimize the expected cost during the expected cycle time that can be used to make an optimal replacement policy in applications. A computational scheme is presented and illustrated through a numerical example. A sensitivity analysis is performed to investigate the effect of statistical constraint, mean shift, and the parameters of the system.  相似文献

This paper presents a mathematical model of aggregate planning for the service division of vending machines, which determines its workforce size and the preventive maintenance level that may affect the failure rate. The unique aspect of this problem is that it exhibits two types of failures requiring different repair and preventive maintenance. The practice is to divide the service division into two groups, within which there are hierarchies according to these types of failures, and in each group, there are full-time workers with annual contracts and temporary workers hired only during the peak season. A case study based on actual operational data demonstrates how effective the introduced model and the policy are in reducing the total cost and improving the quality of service, and thus enhancing the overall system performance of the service division. We perform sensitivity analysis on key parameters, which helps us change maintenance strategies under diverse operating situations.  相似文献

In this paper, the repair-replacement problem for a deteriorating cold standby repairable system is investigated. The system consists of two dissimilar components, in which component 1 is the main component with use priority and component 2 is a supplementary component. In order to extend the working time and economize the running cost of the system, preventive repair for component 1 is performed every time interval T, and the preventive repair is “as good as new”. As a supplementary component, component 2 is only used at the time that component 1 is under preventive repair or failure repair. Assumed that the failure repair of component 1 follows geometric process repair while the repair of component 2 is “as good as new”. A bivariate repair-replacement policy (TN) is adopted for the system, where T is the interval length between preventive repairs, and N is the number of failures of component 1. The aim is to determine an optimal bivariate policy (TN) such that the average cost rate of the system is minimized. The explicit expression of the average cost rate is derived and the corresponding optimal bivariate policy can be determined analytically or numerically. Finally, a Gamma distributed example is given to illustrate the theoretical results for the proposed model.  相似文献

We examine the long-run average availability and cost rate of a maintained system which deteriorates according to a random-shock process. Shocks arrive according to a Poisson process. The system fails whenever the cumulative damage exceeds a given threshold. The system's failures are not self-announcing, hence, failures must be detected via inspections. The system is inspected at periodic or exponentially distributed intervals. Systems are replaced by preventive maintenance or after failure (corrective maintenance), whichever occurs first. When the distribution function of the shock magnitudes belongs to the class of subexponential distributions, we obtain simple approximations for the availability and the cost rate. We consider a repairable system subject to a continuous-time Markovian deterioration while running, that leads to failure. The deterioration degree is measured with a finite discrete scale; repairs follow general distributions; failures are instantaneously detected. This system is submitted to a preventive maintenance policy, with a sequential checking procedure: the up-states are divided into two parts, the “good” up-states and the “degraded” up-states. Instantaneous (and perfect) inspections are then performed on the running system: when it is found in a degraded up-state, it is stopped to be maintained (for a random duration that depends on the degradation degree of the system); when it is found in a good up-state, it is left as it is. The next inspection epoch is then chosen randomly and depends on the degradation degree of the system by time of inspection. We compute the long-run availability of the maintained system and give sufficient conditions for the preventive maintenance policy to improve the long-run availability. We study the optimization of the long-run availability with respect to the distributions of the inter-inspection intervals: we show that under specific assumptions (often checked), optimal distributions are non-random. Numerical examples are studied.  相似文献

We consider a minimal-repair and replacement problem of a reliability system whose state at a failure is described by a pair of two attributes, i.e., the total number of its past failures and the current failure level. It is assumed that the system is bothered by more frequent and more costly failures as time passes. Our problem is to find and/or characterize a minimal-repair and replacement policy of minimizing the long-run average expected maintenance cost per unit time over the infinite time horizon. Formulating the problem as a semi-Markov decision process, we show that a repairlimit replacement policy is average optimal. That is, for each total number of past system failures, there exists a threshold, called a repair limit, such that it is optimal to repair minimally if the current failure level is lower than the repair limit, and to replace otherwise. Furthermore, the repair limit is decreasing in the total number of past system failures.  相似文献

Email: romulo.zequeira{at}utt.fr*** Email: christophe.berenguer{at}utt.fr In this paper, we study the determination of optimal inspectionpolicies when three types of inspections are available: partial, perfect and imperfect. Perfect inspections diagnose withouterror the system state. The system can fail because of threecompeting failure types: I, II and III. Partial inspectionsdetect without error type I failures. Failures of type II canbe detected by imperfect inspections which have non-zero probabilityof false positives. Partial and imperfect inspections are madeat the same time. Type III failures are detectable only by perfectinspections. If the system is found failed in an inspection,a repair is made which renders the system in a good-as-new condition. The system is preventively maintained following an age-basedpolicy. Preventive maintenance actions return the system toa good-as-new condition. We consider cost contributions of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance and periods of unavailability. The model presented permits to determine the optimal (constant)inter-inspection period for partial, imperfect and perfect inspectionsand the optimal times of preventive maintenance actions.  相似文献
