Buchwalter and Schmets reconciled Cc(X) and Cp(X) spaces with most of the weak barrelledness conditions of 1973, but could not determine if -barrelled ⇔ ?-barrelled for Cc(X). The areas grew apart. Full reconciliation with the fourteen conditions adopted by Saxon and Sánchez Ruiz needs their 1997 characterization of Ruess' property (L), which allows us to reduce the Cc(X) problem to its 1973 status and solve it by carefully translating the topology of Kunen (1980) and van Mill (1982) to find the example that eluded Buchwalter and Schmets. The more tractable Cp(X) readily partitions the conditions into just two equivalence classes, the same as for metrizable locally convex spaces, instead of the five required for Cc(X) spaces. Our paper elicits others, soon to appear, that analytically characterize when the Tychonov space X is pseudocompact, or Warner bounded, or when Cc(X) is a df-space (Jarchow's 1981 question).  相似文献

In a previous paper, the author used a notion of orthogonality introduced in another article to establish characterizations for orthogonality in the spaces lSp(C), 1?p<∞, thus obtaining generalizations of the usual characterization of orthogonality in the Hilbert spaces lS2(C), via inner products. In this paper we make explicit these characterizations for some of the spaces lSp(C). We finish by presenting some remarks and open problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove the existence and the exponential stability in H+i (i=1,2), an incomplete metric subspace of Hi×Hi×Hi (i=1,2), of a nonlinear C0-semigroup S(t) for a nonlinear one-dimensional heat-conductive viscous real gas in bounded domain Ω=(0,1). The C1-Weierstrass approximation theorem is proved for any compact subset X of a Hilbert space . The same theorem is also proved for Whitney 1-jets on X when X satisfies the following further condition: There exist finite dimensional linear subspaces such that ?n?1Hn is dense in and πn(X)=XHn for each n?1. Here, is the orthogonal projection. It is also shown that when X is compact convex with and satisfies the above condition, then C1(X) is complete if and only if the C1-Whitney extension theorem holds for X. Finally, for compact subsets of , an extension of the C1-Weierstrass approximation theorem is proved for C1 maps with compact derivatives.  相似文献

In this paper, we definen-segmentwise metric spaces and then we prove the following results:

  2. LetX i (i = 1, 2, ?) be countably compact Hausdorff spaces such thatX 1 × ? × Xn has the fixed point property for allnN Then the product spaceX 1 × X2 × ? has the fixed point property. We shall also discuss several problems in the Fixed Point Theory and give examples if necessary. Among these examples, we have:
  3. There exists a connected metric spaceX which can be decomposed as a disjoint union of a closed setA and an open setB such thatA andB have the fixed point property andX does not have.
  4. There exists a locally compact metrizable spaceX which has the fixed point property but its one-point compactificationX + does not have the fixed point property.

The class of metrizable spaces M with the following approximation property is introduced and investigated: MAP(n,0) if for every ε>0 and a map g:InM there exists a 0-dimensional map g:InM which is ε-homotopic to g. It is shown that this class has very nice properties. For example, if MiAP(ni,0), i=1,2, then M1×M2AP(n1+n2,0). Moreover, MAP(n,0) if and only if each point of M has a local base of neighborhoods U with UAP(n,0). Using the properties of AP(n,0)-spaces, we generalize some results of Levin and Kato-Matsuhashi concerning the existence of residual sets of n-dimensional Lelek maps.  相似文献

It is shown that every almost linear bijection of a unital C-algebra A onto a unital C-algebra B is a C-algebra isomorphism when h(n2uy)=h(n2u)h(y) for all unitaries uA, all yA, and n=0,1,2,…, and that almost linear continuous bijection of a unital C-algebra A of real rank zero onto a unital C-algebra B is a C-algebra isomorphism when h(n2uy)=h(n2u)h(y) for all , all yA, and n=0,1,2,…. Assume that X and Y are left normed modules over a unital C-algebra A. It is shown that every surjective isometry , satisfying T(0)=0 and T(ux)=uT(x) for all xX and all unitaries uA, is an A-linear isomorphism. This is applied to investigate C-algebra isomorphisms between unital C-algebras.  相似文献

In this paper, the concept of equimodular is introduced. It contains several generalizations of Mazur-Ulam's isometric theorem in modular spaces. Let X and Y be two real modular spaces and X with δ1-midpoint shrinking whose modular ρX satisfies the Δ2-condition. Assume that an operator T maps X onto Y in an δ2-{ti}-equimodular manner for all , where {ti} is a null-sequence of nonnegative reals with the property that t0=1, t1?1/2, and ti?ti−1?2ti for i?2. In this paper we study smooth classification of hyperbolic vector fields based on their linear approximations only and obtain the following. On Rn, n?5, with only two kinds of exceptions, any two hyperbolic vector fields with generic nonlinear parts and where Ai are n×n matrices, are C1 conjugate to each other if and only if A1 and A2 are strictly similar, and they are C1 orbitally equivalent if and only if A1 and A2 are similar.  相似文献

We study when a Banach space with absolute norm may have polynomial numerical indices equal to one. In the real case, we show that a Banach space X with absolute norm, which has the Radon-Nikodým property or is Asplund, satisfies n(2)(X)<1 unless it is one-dimensional. In the complex case, we show that the only Banach spaces X with absolute norm and the Radon-Nikodým property which satisfy n(2)(X)=1 are the spaces . Also, the only Asplund complex space X with absolute norm which satisfies n(2)(X)=1 is c0(Λ).  相似文献

For every Tychonoff space X we denote by Cp(X) the set of all continuous real-valued functions on X with the pointwise convergence topology, i.e., the topology of subspace of RX. A set P is a frame for the space Cp(X) if Cp(X)⊂PRX. We prove that if Cp(X) embeds in a σ-compact space of countable tightness then X is countable. This shows that it is natural to study when Cp(X) has a frame of countable tightness with some compactness-like property. We prove, among other things, that if X is compact and the space Cp(X) has a Lindelöf frame of countable tightness then t(X)?ω. We give some generalizations of this result for the case of frames as well as for embeddings of Cp(X) in arbitrary spaces.  相似文献

The authors define the equi-nuclearity of uniform Roe algebras of a family of metric spaces. For a discrete metric space X with bounded geometry which is covered by a family of subspaces {Xi}∞i=1, if {Cu*(Xi)}∞i=1 are equi-nuclear and under some proper gluing conditions, it is proved that Cu*(X) is nuclear. Furthermore, it is claimed that in general, the coarse Roe algebra C*(X) is not nuclear.  相似文献

We obtain sharp bounds for the number of n-cycles in a finite graph as a function of the number of edges, and prove that the complete graph is optimal in more ways than could be imagined. A Hilbert bundle (p, B, X) is a type of fibre space p: BX such that each fibre p?1(x) is a Hilbert space. However, p?1(x) may vary in dimension as x varies in X, even when X is connected. We give two “homotopy” type classification theorems for Hilbert bundles having primarily finite dimensional fibres. An (m, n)-bundle over the pair (X, A) is a Hilbert bundle over (p, B, X) such that the dimension of p?1(x) is m for x in A and n otherwise. As a special case, we show that if X is a compact metric space, C+X the upper cone of the suspension SX, then the isomorphism classes of (m, n)-bundles over (SX, C+X) are in one-to-one correspondence with the members of [X, Vm(Cn)] where Vm(Cn) is the Stiefel manifold. The results are all applicable to the classification of separable, continuous trace C1-algebras, with specific results given to illustrate.  相似文献

We prove that if X1,…,Xn (n>1) are self-adjoints in a W-probability space with finite non-microstates free Fisher information, then the von Neumann algebra W(X1,…,Xn) they generate doesn't have property Γ (especially is not amenable). The authors present limit theorems together with convergence rates for the normalized sums ?(n)Sn, where ?: NR+, ?(n) → 0, n → ∞, towards appropriate limiting r.v. X, the convergence being taken in the weak (star) sense. Thus higher order estimates are given for the expression ∝Rf(x) d[F?(n)Sn(x) ? FX(x)] which depend upon the normalizing function ?, decomposability properties of X and smoothness properties of the function f under consideration. The general theorems of this unified approach subsume O- and o-higher order error estimates based upon assumptions on associated moments. Let SB(X,Y) be the set of the bounded sublinear operators from a Banach space X into a Banach lattice Y. Consider π2(X,Y) the set of 2-summing sublinear operators. We study in this paper a variation of Grothendieck's theorem in the sublinear operators case. We prove under some conditions that every operator in SB(C(K),H) is in π2(C(K),H) for any compact K and any Hilbert H. In the noncommutative case the problem is still open.  相似文献
