The properties of matrix-valued polynomials generated by the scalar-type Rodrigues’ formulas are analyzed. A general representation of these polynomials is found in terms of products of simple differential operators. The recurrence relations, leading coefficients, completeness are established, as well as, in the commutative case, the second order equations for which these polynomials are eigenfunctions and the corresponding eigenvalues, and ladder operators.A new, direct proof is given to the conjecture of Durán and Grünbaum that if the weights are self-adjoint and positive semidefinite then they are necessarily of scalar type.Commutative classes of orthogonal polynomials (corresponding to weights that are self-adjoint but not positive semidefinite) are found, which satisfy all the properties usually associated to orthogonal polynomials, and are not of scalar type.  相似文献

Para‐orthogonal polynomials derived from orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle are known to have all their zeros on the unit circle. In this note we study the zeros of a family of hypergeometric para‐orthogonal polynomials. As tools to study these polynomials, we obtain new results which can be considered as extensions of certain classical results associated with three term recurrence relations and differential equations satisfied by orthogonal polynomials on the real line. One of these results which might be considered as an extension of the classical Sturm comparison theorem, enables us to obtain monotonicity with respect to the parameters for the zeros of these para‐orthogonal polynomials. Finally, a monotonicity of the zeros of Meixner‐Pollaczek polynomials is proved.  相似文献

Orthogonal polynomials of two real variables can often be represented in complex variables. We explore the connection between the two types of representations and study the structural relations of complex orthogonal polynomials. The complex Hermite orthogonal polynomials and the disk polynomials are used as illustrating examples.  相似文献

The relation between the spectral decomposition of a self-adjoint operator which is realizable as a higher order recurrence operator and matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials is investigated. A general construction of such operators from scalar-valued orthogonal polynomials is presented. Two examples of matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials with explicit orthogonality relations and three-term recurrence relation are presented, which both can be considered as 2×2-matrix-valued analogues of subfamilies of Askey–Wilson polynomials.  相似文献

In this paper, extensions of several relations linking differences of bivariate discrete orthogonal polynomials and polynomials themselves are given, by using an appropriate vector–matrix notation. Three-term recurrence relations are presented for the partial differences of the monic polynomial solutions of admissible second order partial difference equation of hypergeometric type. Structure relations, difference representations as well as lowering and raising operators are obtained. Finally, expressions for all matrix coefficients appearing in these finite-type relations are explicitly presented for a finite set of Hahn and Kravchuk orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

A linear polyomial non-negative on the non-negativity domain of finitely many linear polynomials can be expressed as their non-negative linear combination. Recently, under several additional assumptions, Helton, Klep, and McCullough extended this result to matrix polynomials. The aim of this article is to study which of these additional assumptions are really necessary.  相似文献

Main purpose of this paper is to reconstruct generating function of the Bernstein type polynomials. Some properties of this generating functions are given. By applying this generating function, not only derivative of these polynomials but also recurrence relations of these polynomials are found. Interpolation function of these polynomials is also constructed by Mellin transformation. This function interpolates these polynomials at negative integers which are given explicitly. Moreover, relations between these polynomials, the Stirling numbers of the second kind and Bernoulli polynomials of higher order are given. Furthermore some remarks associated with the Bezier curves are given.  相似文献

In this research, by applying the extended Sturm-Liouville theorem for symmetric functions, a basic class of symmetric orthogonal polynomials (BCSOP) with four free parameters is introduced and all its standard properties, such as a generic second order differential equation along with its explicit polynomial solution, a generic orthogonality relation, a generic three term recurrence relation and so on, are presented. Then, it is shown that four main sequences of symmetric orthogonal polynomials can essentially be extracted from the introduced class. They are respectively the generalized ultraspherical polynomials, generalized Hermite polynomials and two other sequences of symmetric polynomials, which are finitely orthogonal on (−∞,∞) and can be expressed in terms of the mentioned class directly. In this way, two half-trigonometric sequences of orthogonal polynomials, as special sub-cases of BCSOP, are also introduced.  相似文献

Multiple Wilson and Jacobi–Piñeiro polynomials   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
We introduce multiple Wilson polynomials, which give a new example of multiple orthogonal polynomials (Hermite–Padé polynomials) of type II. These polynomials can be written as a Jacobi–Piñeiro transform, which is a generalization of the Jacobi transform for Wilson polynomials, found by Koornwinder. Here we need to introduce Jacobi and Jacobi–Piñeiro polynomials with complex parameters. Some explicit formulas are provided for both Jacobi–Piñeiro and multiple Wilson polynomials, one of them in terms of Kampé de Fériet series. Finally, we look at some limiting relations and construct a part of a multiple AT-Askey table.  相似文献

A hierarchy of matrix-valued polynomials which generalize the Jacobi polynomials is found. Defined by a Rodrigues formula, they are also products of a sequence of differential operators. Each class of polynomials is complete, satisfies a three term recurrence relation, integral inter-relations, and weak orthogonality relations.  相似文献

Jacobi polynomials are mapped onto the continuous Hahn polynomials by the Fourier transform, and the orthogonality relations for the continuous Hahn polynomials then follow from the orthogonality relations for the Jacobi polynomials and the Parseval formula. In a special case this relation dates back to work by Bateman in 1933 and we follow a part of the historical development for these polynomials. Some applications of this relation are given.

In this paper, we give some new relations between two families of polynomials defined by three-term recurrence relations. These relations allow us to study how some properties of a family of orthogonal polynomials are affected when the coefficients of the recurrence relation are perturbed. In the literature some methods are already available. However, most of them are only effective for small perturbations. In order to show the sharpness of our method, we compare it with Gronwall's classical method in the case of large perturbations. Using our tool, we also give a relation between the differential equation satisfied by a family of orthogonal polynomials and its perturbed family. Some explicit results are obtained for Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind.  相似文献

The five parameter family of Koornwinder's multivariable analogues of the Askey-Wilson polynomials is studied with four parameters generically complex. The Koornwinder polynomials form an orthogonal system with respect to an explicit (in general complex) measure. A partly discrete orthogonality measure is obtained by shifting the contour to the torus while picking up residues. A parameter domain is given for which the partly discrete orthogonality measure is positive. The orthogonality relations and norm evaluations for multivariable -Racah polynomials and multivariable big and little -Jacobi polynomials are proved by taking suitable limits in the orthogonality relations for the Koornwinder polynomials. In particular new proofs of several well-known -analogues of the Selberg integral are obtained.

The main object of this paper is to construct a systematic investigation of a multivariable extension of the extended Jacobi polynomials and give some relations for these polynomials. We derive various families of multilinear and multilateral generating functions. We also obtain relations between the polynomials extended Jacobi polynomials and some other well-known polynomials. Other miscellaneous properties of these general families of multivariable polynomials are also discussed. Furthermore, some special cases of the results are presented in this study.  相似文献

An efficient construction of two non-classical families of orthogonal polynomials is presented in the paper. The so-called half-range Chebyshev polynomials of the first and second kinds were first introduced by Huybrechs in Huybrechs (2010) [5]. Some properties of these polynomials are also shown. Every integrable function can be represented as an infinite series of sines and cosines of these polynomials, the so-called half-range Chebyshev-Fourier (HCF) series. The second part of the paper is devoted to the efficient computation of derivatives and multiplication of the truncated HCF series, where two matrices are constructed for this purpose: the differentiation and the multiplication matrix.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider bivariate orthogonal polynomials associated with a quasi-definite moment functional which satisfies a Pearson-type partial differential equation. For these polynomials differential properties are obtained. In particular, we deduce some structure and orthogonality relations for the successive partial derivatives of the polynomials.   相似文献

The aim of this paper is to introduce and investigate some of the primary generalizations and unifications of the Peters polynomials and numbers by means of convenient generating functions and p‐adic integrals method. Various fundamental properties of these polynomials and numbers involving some explicit series and integral representations in terms of the generalized Stirling numbers, generalized harmonic sums, and some well‐known special numbers and polynomials are presented. By using p‐adic integrals, we construct generating functions for Peters type polynomials and numbers (Apostol‐type Peters numbers and polynomials). By using these functions with their partial derivative eqautions and functional equations, we derive many properties, relations, explicit formulas, and identities including the Apostol‐Bernoulli polynomials, the Apostol‐Euler polynomials, the Boole polynomials, the Bernoulli polynomials, and numbers of the second kind, generalized harmonic sums. A brief revealing and historical information for the Peters type polynomials are given. Some of the formulas given in this article are given critiques and comments between previously well‐known formulas. Finally, two open problems for interpolation functions for Apostol‐type Peters numbers and polynomials are revealed.  相似文献

We study polynomials orthogonal on a uniform grid. We show that each weight function gives two potentials and each potential leads to a structure relation (lowering operator). These results are applied to derive second order difference equations satisfied by the orthogonal polynomials and nonlinear difference equations satisfied by the recursion coefficients in the three-term recurrence relations.  相似文献

We have found the motivation for this paper in the research of a quantized closed Friedmann cosmological model. There, the second‐order linear ordinary differential equation emerges as a wave equation for the physical state functions. Studying the polynomial solutions of this equation, we define a new functional product in the space of real polynomials. This product includes the indexed weight functions which depend on the degrees of participating polynomials. Although it does not have all of the properties of an inner product, a unique sequence of polynomials can be associated with it by an additional condition. In the special case presented here, we consider the Hermite‐type weight functions and prove that the associated polynomial sequence can be expressed in the closed form via the Hermite polynomials. Also, we find their Rodrigues‐type formula and a four‐term recurrence relation. In contrast to the zeros of Hermite polynomials, which are symmetrically located with respect to the origin, the zeros of the new polynomial sequence are all positive. The aim of this paper is to study on the Genocchi polynomials of higher order on P, the algebra of polynomials in the single variable x over the field C of characteristic zero and P, the vector spaces of all linear functional on P. By using the action of a linear functional L on a polynomial p(x) Sheffer sequences and Appell sequences, we obtain some fundamental properties of the Genocchi polynomials. Furthermore, we give relations between, the first and second kind Stirling numbers, Euler polynomials of higher order and Genocchi polynomials of higher order.  相似文献
