For linear semi-infinite programming problems a discretization method is presented. A first coarse grid is successively refined in such a way that the solution on the foregoing grids can be used on the one hand as starting points for the subsequent grids and on the other hand to considerably reduce the number of constraints which have to be considered in the subsequent problems. This enables an efficient treatment of large problems with moderate storage requirements. A numerically stable Simplex-algorithm is used to solve the LP-subproblems. Numerical examples from bivariate Chebyshev approximation are presented.  相似文献

We present active set methods to evaluate the exact analytic efficient solution set for multi-criteria convex quadratic programming problems (MCQP) subject to linear constraints. The idea is based on the observations that a strictly convex programming problem admits a unique solution, and that the efficient solution set for a multi-criteria strictly convex quadratic programming problem with linear equality constraints can be parameterized. The case of bi-criteria quadratic programming (BCQP) is first discussed since many of the underlying ideas can be explained much more clearly in the case of two objectives. In particular we note that the efficient solution set of a BCQP problem is a curve on the surface of a polytope. The extension to problems with more than two objectives is straightforward albeit some slightly more complicated notation. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献

This paper evaluates an algorithm for solving network flow optimization problems with quadratic cost functions. Strategies for fast implementation are discussed and the results of extensive numerical tests are given. The performance of the algorithm measured by CPU time is compared with that of the convex simplex method specialized for quadratic network programming. Performance of the two methods is analysed with respect to network size and density, and other parameters of interest. The algorithm is shown to perform significantly better on the majority of problems. We also show how the algorithm may be used to solve non-linear convex network optimization problems by the use of sequential quadratic programming.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the computation of a rigorous lower error bound for the optimal value of convex optimization problems. A discussion of large-scale problems, degenerate problems, and quadratic programming problems is included. It is allowed that parameters, whichdefine the convex constraints and the convex objective functions, may be uncertain and may vary between given lower and upper bounds. The error bound is verified for the family of convex optimization problems which correspond to these uncertainties. It can be used to perform a rigorous sensitivity analysis in convex programming, provided the width of the uncertainties is not too large. Branch and bound algorithms can be made reliable by using such rigorous lower bounds.  相似文献

Based on an augmented Lagrangian line search function, a sequential quadratically constrained quadratic programming method is proposed for solving nonlinearly constrained optimization problems. Compared to quadratic programming solved in the traditional SQP methods, a convex quadratically constrained quadratic programming is solved here to obtain a search direction, and the Maratos effect does not occur without any other corrections. The “active set” strategy used in this subproblem can avoid recalculating the unnecessary gradients and (approximate) Hessian matrices of the constraints. Under certain assumptions, the proposed method is proved to be globally, superlinearly, and quadratically convergent. As an extension, general problems with inequality and equality constraints as well as nonmonotone line search are also considered.  相似文献

In a recent paper Tardos described a polynomial algorithm for solving linear programming problems in which the number of arithmetic steps depends only on the size of the numbers in the constraint matrix and is independent of the size of the numbers in the right hand side and the cost coefficients. In this paper we extend Tardos' results and present a polynomial algorithm for solving strictly convex quadratic programming problems in which the number of arithmetic steps is independent of the size of the numbers in the right hand side and the linear cost coefficients.This research was partially supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Grant 5-83998.  相似文献

In this paper, the Iri-Imai algorithm for solving linear and convex quadratic programming is extended to solve some other smooth convex programming problems. The globally linear convergence rate of this extended algorithm is proved, under the condition that the objective and constraint functions satisfy a certain type of convexity, called the harmonic convexity in this paper. A characterization of this convexity condition is given. The same convexity condition was used by Mehrotra and Sun to prove the convergence of a path-following algorithm.The Iri-Imai algorithm is a natural generalization of the original Newton algorithm to constrained convex programming. Other known convergent interior-point algorithms for smooth convex programming are mainly based on the path-following approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new dual program, which is representable as a semidefinite linear programming problem, for a primal convex minimax programming problem, and we show that there is no duality gap between the primal and the dual whenever the functions involved are sum-of-squares convex polynomials. Under a suitable constraint qualification, we derive strong duality results for this class of minimax problems. Consequently, we present applications of our results to robust sum-of-squares convex programming problems under data uncertainty and to minimax fractional programming problems with sum-of-squares convex polynomials. We obtain these results by first establishing sum-of-squares polynomial representations of non-negativity of a convex max function over a system of sum-of-squares convex constraints. The new class of sum-of-squares convex polynomials is an important subclass of convex polynomials and it includes convex quadratic functions and separable convex polynomials. The sum-of-squares convexity of polynomials can numerically be checked by solving semidefinite programming problems whereas numerically verifying convexity of polynomials is generally very hard.  相似文献

The limits of a class of primal and dual solution trajectories associated with the Sequential Unconstrained Minimization Technique (SUMT) are investigated for convex programming problems with non-unique optima. Logarithmic barrier terms are assumed. For linear programming problems, such limits – of both primal and dual trajectories – are strongly optimal, strictly complementary, and can be characterized as analytic centers of, loosely speaking, optimality regions. Examples are given, which show that those results do not hold in general for convex programming problems. If the latter are weakly analytic (Bank et al. [3]), primal trajectory limits can be characterized in analogy to the linear programming case and without assuming differentiability. That class of programming problems contains faithfully convex, linear, and convex quadratic programming problems as strict subsets. In the differential case, dual trajectory limits can be characterized similarly, albeit under different conditions, one of which suffices for strict complementarity. Convex integer quadratic programming involves minimization of a convex quadratic objective function with affine constraints and is a well-known NP-hard problem with a wide range of applications. We proposed a new variable reduction technique for convex integer quadratic programs (IQP). Based on the optimal values to the continuous relaxation of IQP and a feasible solution to IQP, the proposed technique can be applied to fix some decision variables of an IQP simultaneously at zero without sacrificing optimality. Using this technique, computational effort needed to solve IQP can be greatly reduced. Since a general convex bounded IQP (BIQP) can be transformed to a convex IQP, the proposed technique is also applicable for the convex BIQP. We report a computational study to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed technique in solving quadratic knapsack problems.  相似文献

We extend the Lagrangian duality theory for convex optimization problems to incorporate approximate solutions. In particular, we generalize well-known relationships between minimizers of a convex optimization problem, maximizers of its Lagrangian dual, saddle points of the Lagrangian, Kuhn–Tucker vectors, and Kuhn–Tucker conditions to incorporate approximate versions. As an application, we show how the theory can be used for convex quadratic programming and then apply the results to support vector machines from learning theory.  相似文献

This paper shows that the primal-dual steepest descent algorithm developed by Zhu and Rockafellar for large-scale extended linear—quadratic programming can be used in solving constrained minimax problems related to a generalC 2 saddle function. It is proved that the algorithm converges linearly from the very beginning of the iteration if the related saddle function is strongly convex—concave uniformly and the cross elements between the convex part and the concave part of the variables in its Hessian are bounded on the feasible region. Better bounds for the asymptotic rates of convergence are also obtained. The minimax problems where the saddle function has linear cross terms between the convex part and the concave part of the variables are discussed specifically as a generalization of the extended linear—quadratic programming. One of the fundamental problems in interval quadratic programming is to compute the range of optimal values. In this paper, we derive some results on the lower bound of interval convex quadratic programming. We first develop complementary slackness conditions of a quadratic program and its Dorn dual. Then, some interesting and useful characteristics of the lower bound of interval quadratic programming are established based on these conditions. Finally, illustrative examples and remarks are given to get an insight into the problem discussed.  相似文献

The object of this paper is to prove duality theorems for quasiconvex programming problems. The principal tool used is the transformation introduced by Manas for reducing a nonconvex programming problem to a convex programming problem. In this paper, we study inverse optimization for linearly constrained convex separable programming problems that have wide applications in industrial and managerial areas. For a given feasible point of a convex separable program, the inverse optimization is to determine whether the feasible point can be made optimal by adjusting the parameter values in the problem, and when the answer is positive, find the parameter values that have the smallest adjustments. A sufficient and necessary condition is given for a feasible point to be able to become optimal by adjusting parameter values. Inverse optimization formulations are presented with 1 and 2 norms. These inverse optimization problems are either linear programming when 1 norm is used in the formulation, or convex quadratic separable programming when 2 norm is used.  相似文献

In this paper an exterior point polynomial time algorithm for convex quadratic programming problems is proposed. We convert a convex quadratic program into an unconstrained convex program problem with a self-concordant objective function. We show that, only with duality, the Path-following method is valid.
