Based on Giannakopoulos’s 2-D functionally graded material (FGM) contact model, a modified contact model is put forward to deal with impact problem of the functionally graded shallow spherical shell in thermal environment. The FGM shallow spherical shell, having temperature dependent material property, is subjected to a temperature field uniform over the shell surface but varying along the thickness direction due to steady-state heat conduction. The displacement field and geometrical relations of the FGM shallow spherical shell are established on the basis of TimoshenkoMidlin theory. And the nonlinear motion equations of the FGM shallow spherical shell under low velocity impact in thermal environment are founded in terms of displacement variable functions. Using the orthogonal collocation point method and the Newmark method to discretize the unknown variable functions in space and in time domain, the whole problem is solved by the iterative method. In numerical examples, the contact force and nonlinear dynamic response of the FGM shallow spherical shell under low velocity impact are investigated and effects of temperature field, material and geometrical parameters on contact force and dynamic response of the FGM shallow spherical shell are discussed.  相似文献

In this article, an analytical approach for buckling analysis of thick functionally graded rectangular plates is presented. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived according to the higher-order shear deformation plate theory. Introducing an analytical method, the coupled governing stability equations of functionally graded plate are converted into two uncoupled partial differential equations in terms of transverse displacement and a new function, called boundary layer function. Using Levy-type solution these equations are solved for the functionally graded rectangular plate with two opposite edges simply supported under different types of loading conditions. The excellent accuracy of the present analytical solution is confirmed by making some comparisons of the present results with those available in the literature. Furthermore, the effects of power of functionally graded material, plate thickness, aspect ratio, loading types and boundary conditions on the critical buckling load of the functionally graded rectangular plate are studied and discussed in details. The critical buckling loads of thick functionally graded rectangular plates with various boundary conditions are reported for the first time and can be used as benchmark.  相似文献

This paper deals with free vibration analysis of functionally graded composite shell structures reinforced by carbon nanotubes. Uniform and three distributions of carbon nanotubes which are graded in the thickness direction of the structure are considered. The effective material properties are determined via a micro-mechanical model using some efficiency parameters. The equations of motion are developed based on a discrete double directors shell finite element formulation which introduces the transverse shear deformations via a higher-order distribution of the displacement field. Comparison studies are carried out for various functionally graded composite shell structures reinforced by carbon nanotubes in order to highlight the applicability and the efficiency of the proposed model in the prediction of the vibrational behavior of such shell structures.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical investigation on the nonlinear response of thick functionally graded doubly curved shallow panels resting on elastic foundations and subjected to some conditions of mechanical, thermal, and thermomechanical loads. Material properties are assumed to be temperature independent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of constituents. The formulations are based on higher order shear deformation shell theory taking into account geometrical nonlinearity, initial geometrical imperfection and Pasternak type elastic foundation. By applying Galerkin method, explicit relations of load-deflection curves for simply supported curved panels are determined. Effects of material and geometrical properties, in-plane boundary restraint, foundation stiffness and imperfection on the buckling and postbuckling loading capacity of the panels are analyzed and discussed. The novelty of this study results from accounting for higher order transverse shear deformation and panel-foundation interaction in analyzing nonlinear stability of thick functionally graded cylindrical and spherical panels.  相似文献

This work studies transient thermal stresses in a thick hollow cylinder made of a functionally graded material (FGM). Material properties are considered to be nonlinear with a power law distribution through the thickness. The cylinder is assumed to be of infinite length, and the plane strain condition is supposed. The displacement and the distribution of stresses are obtained by analytical solution of governing differential equations of the Navier type. The transient dynamic behavior of thermal stresses is determined and discussed for various power law exponents appearing in functions determining mechanical properties of FGMs. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, the wave propagation and transient response of an infinite functionally graded plate under a point impact load in thermal environments are studied. The thermal effects and temperature-dependent material properties are taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the plate surface and varies in the thickness direction only. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Considering the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia, the governing equations of the wave propagation in the functionally graded plate are derived from Hamilton’s principle. The analytic dispersion relation of the functionally graded plate is obtained by means of integral transforms and a complete discussion of dispersion for the functionally graded plate is given. Using the dispersion relation and integral transforms, exact integral solutions of the functionally graded plate under a point impact load in thermal environments are obtained. The influences of the volume fraction distributions and temperature field on the wave propagation and transient response of functionally graded plates are discussed in detail. The results carried out can be used in the ultrasonic inspection techniques and provide a theoretical basis for engineering applications.  相似文献

The axisymmetric torsional fretting contact between a rigid conducting spherical punch and a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) coating is studied in this paper. The exponential model is used to simulate the inhomogeneous electro-mechanical properties of the FGPMs coating. The conducting spherical punch with a constant surface electric potential is considered in the contact. A normal force and a cyclic torque are applied to the two contact bodies. The applied torque produces an outer annular slip area and an inner stick area. The torsion angle is produced within the inner stick area as a rigid body. With the aid of the Hankel integral transform technique, we can reduce the contact problem to the singular integral equations of the Cauchy type. Then the unknown electro-mechanical fields and stick/slip area can be obtained numerically. The effect of the gradient index on the surface electro-mechanical fields is discussed at loading and unloading phases. The Mises stress and principal stress at the contact surface are also discussed to predict the possible location of fretting damage and failure.  相似文献

The static response of simply supported functionally graded plates (FGP) subjected to a transverse uniform load (UL) or a sinusoidally distributed load (SL) and resting on an elastic foundation is examined by using a new hyperbolic displacement model. The present theory exactly satisfies the stress boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. No transverse shear correction factors are needed, because a correct representation of the transverse shear strain is given. The material properties of the plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of material constituents. The foundation is modeled as a two-parameter Pasternak-type foundation, or as a Winkler-type one if the second parameter is zero. The equilibrium equations of a functionally graded plate are given based on the hyperbolic shear deformation theory of plates presented. The effects of stiffness and gradient index of the foundation on the mechanical responses of the plates are discussed. It is established that the elastic foundations significantly affect the mechanical behavior of thick functionally graded plates. The numerical results presented in the paper can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of thick functionally graded plates on elastic foundations.  相似文献

An edge crack in a strip of functionally gradient ceramics (FGC) is studied under thermal loading conditions. Two FGC materials are considered, i.e., one with a spatial variation of shear modulus and the other with a spatial variation of thermal conductivity. Thermal stress intensity factors (TSIF) are numerically calculated based on singular integral equations derived for the dislocation density along the crack faces. It is shown that: (a) for the FGC with a graded shear modulus, the TSIF are reduced for crack lengths longer thanl c b and remain approximately the same as those of a homogeneous material for shorter crack lengths, wherel c is about 0.065 andb is the width of the strip; and (b) for the FGC with a thermal conductivity gradient, the TSIF are generally lower compared with those for the bonded two-layer material.  相似文献

Dynamic analysis of multi-directional functionally graded annular plates is achieved in this paper using a semi-analytical numerical method entitled the state space-based differential quadrature method. Based on the three-dimensional elastic theory and assuming the material properties having an exponent-law variation along the thickness, radial direction or both directions, the frequency equations of free vibration of multi-directional functionally graded annular plates are derived under various boundary conditions. Numerical examples are presented to validate the approach and the superiority of this method is also demonstrated. Then free vibration of functionally graded annular plates is studied for different variations of material properties along the thickness, radial direction and both directions, respectively. And the influences of the material property graded variations on the dynamic behavior are also investigated. The multi-directional graded material can likely be designed according to the actual requirement and it is a potential alternative to the unidirectional functionally graded material.  相似文献

In this paper, size dependent free vibration, buckling and dynamic stability of bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) microbeam embedded in elastic medium are investigated. The material properties vary along both thickness and axial directions. In particular, the material length scale parameter of microbeam is considered as a function of spatial coordinates and varies with the material gradient parameters. The system of differential equations with variable coefficients governing the motion of BDFG microbeam is derived employing Hamilton’s principle, the modified couple stress theory and third-order shear deformation beam theory. The differential quadrature method (DQM) is utilized to solve the static and dynamic problem. Three different models evaluating the material length scale parameter of BDFG microbeam are presented for comparison. Parametric studies are carried out to show the influence of gradient parameters, size effect, stiffness of elastic medium on the free vibration, buckling and dynamic stability characteristic of BDFG microbeam. Results show that the variation of material length scale parameter should be considered in the analysis of BDFG microbeam.  相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of an axisymmetric penny shaped crack embedded in an infinite functionally graded magneto electro elastic medium. The loading consists of magnetoelectromechanical loads applied on the crack surfaces assumed to be magneto electrically impermeable. The material’s gradient is parallel to the axisymmetric direction and is perpendicular to the crack plane. An anisotropic constitutive law is adopted to model the material behavior. The governing equations are converted analytically using Hankel transform into coupled singular integral equations, which are solved numerically to yield the crack tip stress, electric displacement and magnetic induction intensity factors. A similar problem but with a different crack morphology, that is a plane crack embedded in an infinite functionally graded magneto electro elastic medium, was considered by the authors in a previous work (Rekik et al., 2012) [25]. While the overall solution schemes look similar, the axisymmetric problem resulted in more mathematical complexities and let to different conclusions with respect to the influence of coupling between elastic, electric and magnetic effects. The main focus of this paper is to study the effect of material non-homogeneity on the fields’ intensity factors to understand further the behavior of graded magnetoelectroelastic materials containing penny shaped cracks and to inspect the effect of varying the crack geometry.  相似文献

Presented herein is the prediction of buckling behavior of size-dependent microbeams made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) including thermal environment effect. To this purpose, strain gradient elasticity theory is incorporated into the classical third-order shear deformation beam theory to develop a non-classical beam model which contains three additional internal material length scale parameters to consider the effects of size dependencies. The higher-order governing differential equations are derived on the basis of Hamilton’s principle. Afterward, the size-dependent differential equations and related boundary conditions are discretized along with commonly used end supports by employing generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method. A parametric study is carried out to demonstrate the influences of the dimensionless length scale parameter, material property gradient index, temperature change, length-to-thickness aspect ratio and end supports on the buckling characteristics of FGM microbeams. It is revealed that temperature change plays more important role in the buckling behavior of FGM microbeams with higher values of dimensionless length scale parameter.  相似文献

Axisymmetric buckling analysis is presented for moderately thick laminated shallow annular spherical cap under transverse load. Buckling under central ring load and uniformly distributed transverse load, applied statically or as a step function load is considered. The central circular opening is either free or plugged by a rigid central mass or reinforced by a rigid ring. Annular spherical caps have been analysed for clamped and simple supports with movable and immovable inplane edge conditions. The governing equations of the Marguerre-type, first order shear deformation shallow shell theory (FSDT), formulated in terms of transverse deflection w, the rotation ψ of the normal to the midsurface and the stress function Φ, are solved by the orthogonal point collocation method. Typical numerical results for static and dynamic buckling loads for FSDT are compared with the classical lamination theory and the dependence of the effect of the shear deformation on the thickness parameter for various boundary conditions is investigated.  相似文献

The Hamilton principle, higher order shear deformation theory, constitutive equation considering coupling effect between mechanical, electric, magnetic, thermal are considered to derive the equations of motion and distribution of electrical potential, magnetic potential along the thickness direction of FGMETE circular cylindrical shell. The influences of various external loads, such as axis force, temperature difference between the bottom and top surface of shell, surface electric voltage and magnetic voltage, on the buckling response of FGMETE circular cylindrical shell are investigated. This paper presents the report of an investigation into thermoelastic vibration and buckling characteristics of the functionally graded piezoelectric cylindrical, where the functionally graded piezoelectric cylindrical shell is made from a piezoelectric material having gradient change along the thickness, such as piezoelectricity and dielectric coefficient et al. Here, utilizing Hamilton’s principle and the Maxwell equation with a quadratic variation of the electric potential along the thickness direction of the cylindrical shells and the first-order shear deformation theory, and taking into account both the direct piezoelectric effect and the converse piezoelectric effect, the thermoelastic vibration and buckling characteristics of functionally graded piezoelectric cylindrical shells composed of BaTiO3/PZT − 4, BaTiO3/PZT − 5A and BaTiO3/PVDF are, respectively, calculated. The effects of material composition (volume fraction exponent), thermal loading, external voltage applied and shell geometry parameters on the free vibration characteristics are described, and the axial critical load, critical temperature and critical control voltage are obtained.  相似文献
