A fast solution algorithm is proposed for solving block banded block Toeplitz systems with non-banded Toeplitz blocks. The algorithm constructs the circulant transformation of a given Toeplitz system and then by means of the Sherman-Morrison-Woodbury formula transforms its inverse to an inverse of the original matrix. The block circulant matrix with Toeplitz blocks is converted to a block diagonal matrix with Toeplitz blocks, and the resulting Toeplitz systems are solved by means of a fast Toeplitz solver. The computational complexity in the case one uses fast Toeplitz solvers is equal to ξ(m,n,k)=O(mn3)+O(k3n3) flops, there are m block rows and m block columns in the matrix, n is the order of blocks, 2k+1 is the bandwidth. The validity of the approach is illustrated by numerical experiments.  相似文献

In this paper we are concerned with the hyponormality of Toeplitz operators with matrix-valued circulant symbols. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for Toeplitz operators with matrix-valued partially circulant symbols to be hyponormal and also provide a rank formula for the self-commutator.  相似文献

In contrast to the usual (and successful) direct methods for Toeplitz systems Ax = b, we propose an algorithm based on the conjugate gradient method. The preconditioner is a circulant, so that all matrices have constant diagonals and all matrix-vector multiplications use the Fast Fourier Transform. We also suggest a technique for the eigenvalue problem, where current methods are less satisfactory. If the first indications are supported by further experiment, this new approach may have useful applications—including nearly Toeplitz systems, and parallel computations.  相似文献

In this note, we study the notion of structured pseudospectra. We prove that for Toeplitz, circulant, Hankel and symmetric structures, the structured pseudospectrum equals the unstructured pseudospectrum. We show that this is false for Hermitian and skew-Hermitian structures. We generalize the result to pseudospectra of matrix polynomials. Indeed, we prove that the structured pseudospectrum equals the unstructured pseudospectrum for matrix polynomials with Toeplitz, circulant, Hankel and symmetric structures. We conclude by giving a formula for structured pseudospectra of real matrix polynomials. The particular type of perturbations used for these pseudospectra arise in control theory.  相似文献

It is shown that the invertibility of a Toeplitz matrix can be determined through the solvability of two standard equations. The inverse matrix can be denoted as a sum of products of circulant matrices and upper triangular Toeplitz matrices. The stability of the inversion formula for a Toeplitz matrix is also considered.  相似文献

Diagonally dominant tridiagonal Toeplitz systems of linear equations arise in many application areas and have been well studied in the past. Modern interest in numerical linear algebra is often focusing on solving classic problems in parallel. In McNally [Fast parallel algorithms for tri-diagonal symmetric Toeplitz systems, MCS Thesis, University of New Brunswick, Saint John, 1999], an m processor Split & Correct algorithm was presented for approximating the solution to a symmetric tridiagonal Toeplitz linear system of equations. Nemani [Perturbation methods for circulant-banded systems and their parallel implementation, Ph.D. Thesis, University of New Brunswick, Saint John, 2001] and McNally (2003) adapted the works of Rojo [A new method for solving symmetric circulant tri-diagonal system of linear equations, Comput. Math. Appl. 20 (1990) 61–67], Yan and Chung [A fast algorithm for solving special tri-diagonal systems, Computing 52 (1994) 203–211] and McNally et al. [A split-correct parallel algorithm for solving tri-diagonal symmetric Toeplitz systems, Internat. J. Comput. Math. 75 (2000) 303–313] to the non-symmetric case. In this paper we present relevant background from these methods and then introduce an m processor scalable communication-less approximation algorithm for solving a diagonally dominant tridiagonal Toeplitz system of linear equations.  相似文献

We first discuss the convergence in probability and in distribution of the spectral norm of scaled Toeplitz, circulant, reverse circulant, symmetric circulant, and a class of k-circulant matrices when the input sequence is independent and identically distributed with finite moments of suitable order and the dimension of the matrix tends to ∞.  相似文献

We study the numerical solution of a block system T m,n x=b by preconditioned conjugate gradient methods where T m,n is an m×m block Toeplitz matrix with n×n Toeplitz blocks. These systems occur in a variety of applications, such as two-dimensional image processing and the discretization of two-dimensional partial differential equations. In this paper, we propose new preconditioners for block systems based on circulant preconditioners. From level-1 circulant preconditioner we construct our first preconditioner q 1(T m,n ) which is the sum of a block Toeplitz matrix with Toeplitz blocks and a sparse matrix with Toeplitz blocks. By setting selected entries of the inverse of level-2 circulant preconditioner to zero, we get our preconditioner q 2(T m,n ) which is a (band) block Toeplitz matrix with (band) Toeplitz blocks. Numerical results show that our preconditioners are more efficient than circulant preconditioners.  相似文献

The finite difference discretization of the spatial fractional diffusion equations gives discretized linear systems whose coefficient matrices have a diagonal‐plus‐Toeplitz structure. For solving these diagonal‐plus‐Toeplitz linear systems, we construct a class of diagonal and Toeplitz splitting iteration methods and establish its unconditional convergence theory. In particular, we derive a sharp upper bound about its asymptotic convergence rate and deduct the optimal value of its iteration parameter. The diagonal and Toeplitz splitting iteration method naturally leads to a diagonal and circulant splitting preconditioner. Analysis shows that the eigenvalues of the corresponding preconditioned matrix are clustered around 1, especially when the discretization step‐size h is small. Numerical results exhibit that the diagonal and circulant splitting preconditioner can significantly improve the convergence properties of GMRES and BiCGSTAB, and these preconditioned Krylov subspace iteration methods outperform the conjugate gradient method preconditioned by the approximate inverse circulant‐plus‐diagonal preconditioner proposed recently by Ng and Pan (M.K. Ng and J.‐Y. Pan, SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 2010;32:1442‐1464). Moreover, unlike this preconditioned conjugate gradient method, the preconditioned GMRES and BiCGSTAB methods show h‐independent convergence behavior even for the spatial fractional diffusion equations of discontinuous or big‐jump coefficients.  相似文献

Circulant preconditioners for Toeplitz-block matrices   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We propose two block preconditioners for Toeplitz-block matrices (i.e. each block is Toeplitz), intended to be used in conjunction with conjugate gradient methods. These preconditioners employ and extend existing circulant preconditioners for point Toeplitz matrices. The two preconditioners differ in whether the point circulant approximation is used once or twice, and also in the cost per step. We discuss efficient implementation of these two preconditioners, as well as some basic theoretical properties (such as preservation of symmetry and positive definiteness). We report results of numerical experiments, including an example from active noise control, to compare their performance.Research supported by SRI International and by the Army Research Office under contract DAAL03-91-G-0150 and by the Office of Naval Research under contract N00014-90-J-1695.  相似文献

The full exploitation of the structure of large scale algebraic problems is often crucial for their numerical solution. Matlab is a computational environment which supports sparse matrices, besides full ones, and allows one to add new types of variables (classes) and define the action of arithmetic operators and functions on them. The smt toolbox for Matlab introduces two new classes for circulant and Toeplitz matrices, and implements optimized storage and fast computational routines for them, transparently to the user. The toolbox, available in Netlib, is intended to be easily extensible, and provides a collection of test matrices and a function to compute three circulant preconditioners, to speed up iterative methods for linear systems. Moreover, it incorporates a simple device to add to the toolbox new routines for solving Toeplitz linear systems.  相似文献
