This paper is concerned with the space of all compact adjoint operators from dual spaces of Banach spaces into dual spaces of Banach spaces and approximation properties. For some topology on the space of all bounded linear operators from separable dual spaces of Banach spaces into dual spaces of Banach spaces, it is shown that if a bounded linear operator is approximated by a net of compact adjoint operators, then the operator can be approximated by a sequence of compact adjoint operators whose operator norms are less than or equal to the operator norm of the operator. Also we obtain applications of the theory and, in particular, apply the theory to approximation properties.  相似文献

A Banach space has the weak fixed point property if its dual space has a weak sequentially compact unit ball and the dual space satisfies the weak uniform Kadec-Klee property; and it has the fixed point property if there exists ε>0 such that, for every infinite subset A of the unit sphere of the dual space, A∪(−A) fails to be (2−ε)-separated. In particular, E-convex Banach spaces, a class of spaces that includes the uniformly nonsquare spaces, have the fixed point property.  相似文献

In this paper we study very smooth points of Banach spaces with special emphasis on spaces of operators. We show that when the space of compact operators is anM-ideal in the space of bounded operators, a very smooth operatorT attains its norm at a unique vectorx (up to a constant multiple) andT(x) is a very smooth point of the range space. We show that if for every equivalent norm on a Banach space, the dual unit ball has a very smooth point then the space has the Radon-Nikodym property. We give an example of a smooth Banach space without any very smooth points.  相似文献

A general Fatou Lemma is established for a sequence of Gelfand integrable functions from a vector Loeb space to the dual of a separable Banach space or, with a weaker assumption on the sequence, a Banach lattice. A corollary sharpens previous results in the finite-dimensional setting even for the case of scalar measures. Counterexamples are presented to show that the results obtained here are sharp in various aspects. Applications include systematic generalizations of the distribution of correspondences from the case of scalar Loeb spaces to the case of vector Loeb spaces and a proof of the existence of a pure strategy equilibrium in games with private and public information and with compact metric action spaces.  相似文献

A result of Aliprantis and Burkinshaw shows that weakly compact operators from an AL-space into a KB-space have a weakly compact modulus. Groenewegen characterised the largest class of range spaces for which this remains true whenever the domain is an AL-space and Schmidt proved a dual result. Both of these authors used vector-valued integration in their proofs. We give elementary proofs of both results and also characterise the largest class of domains for which the conclusion remains true whenever the range space is a KB-space. We conclude by studying the order structure of spaces of weakly compact operators between Banach lattices to prove results analogous to earlier results of one of the authors for spaces of compact operators.

In this paper, some characterizations for the solidness of dual cones are established. As applications, we prove that a Banach space is reflexive if it contains a solid pointed closed convex cone having a weakly compact base, and prove an analogue of a Karamardian’s result for the linear complementarity problem in reflexive Banach spaces. The uniqueness of the solution of the linear complementarity problem is also discussed.  相似文献

The main result is that every weakly compact operator between Banach spaces factors through a reflexive Banach space. Applications of the result and technique of proof include new results (e.g., separable conjugate spaces embed isomorphically in spaces with boundedly complete bases; convex weakly compact sets are affinely homeomorphic to sets in a reflexive space) and simple proofs of known results (e.g., there is a reflexive space failing the Banach-Saks property; if X is separable, then X = Z7Z for some Z; there is a separable space which does not contain l1 whose dual is nonseparable).  相似文献

This paper gives conditions for a closed subcone of a weak1 closed cone in a Banach dual space to be exposed by a weak1 continuous linear functional. This set-up is applied to the study of complex-valued and vector-valued continuous function spaces on a compact Hausdorff space to deduce peak-set criteria. In the case of complex-valued function spaces peak-set conditions are given in terms of gages on certain cones of complex measures. These conditions are shown to imply various known peak-set criteria involving annihilating measures.  相似文献

In this paper, we define a Banach SNL space to be a Banach space with a certain kind of linear map from it into its dual, and we develop the theory of linear L?Cpositive subsets of Banach SNL spaces with Banach SNL dual spaces. We use this theory to give simplified proofs of some recent results of Bauschke, Borwein, Wang and Yao, and also of the classical Brezis?CBrowder theorem.  相似文献

Based on an application of the Davis-Figiel-Johnson-Pelzyski procedure, this note shows that every weakly compact subset of a Banach space can be uniformly embedded into a reflexive Banach space. As its application, we present the recent renorming theorems for reflexive spaces of Odell- Schlumprecht and Hajek-Johanis can be extended and localized to weakly compact convex subsets of an arbitrary Banach space.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of compactly locally reflexive Banach spaces and show that a Banach space X is compactly locally reflexive if and only if for all reflexive Banach spaces Y. We show that X * has the approximation property if and only if X has the approximation property and is compactly locally reflexive. The weak metric approximation property was recently introduced by Lima and Oja. We study two natural weak compact versions of this property. If X is compactly locally reflexive then these two properties coincide. We also show how these properties are related to the compact approximation property and the compact approximation property with conjugate operators for dual spaces.  相似文献

This paper is about certain linear subspaces of Banach SN spaces (that is to say Banach spaces which have a symmetric nonexpansive linear map into their dual spaces). We apply our results to monotone linear subspaces of the product of a Banach space and its dual. We prove that a topological space is uniform Eberlein compact iff it is homeomorphic to a super weakly compact subset C of a Banach space such that the closed convex hull coC of C is super weakly compact. We answer, by counterexample, several questions concerning algebras of operators on a Hilbert space. The answers add further weight to the thesis that, for many purposes, such algebras ought to be studied in the framework of operator spaces, as opposed to that of Banach spaces and Banach algebras. In particular, the ‘nonselfadjoint analogue’ of a w*-algebra resides naturally in the category of dual operator spaces, as opposed to dual Banach spaces. We also show that an automatic w*-continuity result in the preceding paper of the authors, is sharp.  相似文献

We study the analogues of de Branges-Rovnyak spaces in the Banach space case. An important role is played by self-adjoint operators from the dual of a Banach space into the Banach space itself. It is shown that a Banach space E has the Radon-Nikodym property (equivalently, every bounded subset of E is dentable) if and only if every bounded closed convex subset of E is the closed convex hull of its strongly exposed points. Using recent work of Namioka, some analogous results are obtained concerning weak1 strongly exposed points of weak1 compact convex subsets of certain dual Banach spaces.  相似文献
