The official school mathematics curriculum has a powerful influence on classroom practice in a developing country like Ghana, where many teachers with low teaching qualifications hardly ever have access to other sources of information and activity for their teaching. The study reported in this paper investigated the congruence between the teaching methods presented in the official curriculum materials and teachers’ classroom practice. The study involved a range of methods: classroom observation and content and discourse analyses of lessons in mathematics. The study found that, though there was rhetoric in the introduction of the curriculum materials on the use of discovery teaching methods, few learning/teaching activities that would encourage the use of such discovery methods were included in the materials. It was observed that both the official curriculum and the teachers who implement it emphasise expository teaching methods.  相似文献

A new concept, compulsory multi-disciplinary courses, was introduced in upper secondary school curriculum as a central part of a recent reform. This paper reports from a case study of such a triple/four-disciplinary project in mathematics, physics, chemistry and ‘general study preparation’ performed under the reform by a team of experienced teachers. The aim of the case study was to inquire how the teachers met the demands of the introduction of this new concept and, to look for signs of new relations established by the students between mathematics and other subjects, as a result of the multi-disciplinary teaching. The study revealed examples of good practice in planning and teaching. In addition, it served to illuminate interesting aspects of how students perceived the school subject mathematics and its relations to other subjects and to common sense.  相似文献

In the 1970s significant research was conducted concerning the development of methods for teaching mathematics. The most outstanding of these projects, led by the late Tamás Varga, and which had a major influence on teaching mathematics in Hungary, was called OPI. This project comprised research based on experiments aiming at the complete renewal of methods and content in mathematics teaching. In 1978 a centralized and compulsory new curriculum was introduced that was based on the results of the Varga’s research. In the following decade development aimed at adopting and realizing the research results within practice. Research mainly aimed at examining the effects of the newly introduced curriculum by looking into the development of children’s problem-solving skills. Other research was associated with international studies such as SIMS, TIMMS, and PISA. Additional research and development into different aspects of problem solving, summarized here, was conducted by various research groups around the country.  相似文献

The curriculum, teaching, and assessment Standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics advocate the use of various assessment techniques in mathematics, K-12. Practitioners from 35 school districts in two regions of a midwestern state completed a questionnaire and reported information about their assessment practices, reporting methods, and other issues that affect change in mathematics. The results of the survey suggest that current reporting practices are limiting the use of alternative classroom assessment practices. Delays in the use of alternative mathematics assessment practice can probably be expected until the reporting systems used in school districts become consistent with the assessment systems and teachers participate in ongoing professional development programs to learn more about alternative assessment practices.  相似文献

Integrated mathematics and science teaching and learning is a widely advocated yet largely unexplored phenomenon. This study involves an examination of middle school integrated mathematics and science education from two perspectives—theory and practice. The theoretical component of this research addresses the ill-defined nature of the phrase integrated mathematics and science education. A conceptual framework in the form of a Mathematics/Science Continuum is presented to lend clarity and precision to this phrase. The theoretical framework is then used to guide analysis of tasks students are engaged in during instructional practice in middle school classrooms, where the goal of instruction is full integration of mathematics and science. Barriers to integrating mathematics and science in the school curriculum are also presented.  相似文献

If the visions of the national mathematics and science standards are to be achieved, efforts must be taken to develop strategies for implementing standards-based curriculum and instruction. The Nebraska Mathematics/Science Framework Project used reflection and collaboration to develop a framework document that has been a significant motivator to enhance mathematics and science education in Nebraska. A teachers-teaching-teachers inservice model was used to connect the framework document with effective, innovative teaching practice and assessment strategies. The end result is an articulated program of mathematics and science which is guiding other state efforts to improve mathematics and science education.  相似文献

数学与应用数学(师范)专业中的《运筹学》具有跨学科、实践性的课程特点,目标在于培养职前教师用数学方法解决实际问题的能力.结合义务教育阶段新课程标准中"四基"的提出这一背景,本文将以线性规划部分(运筹数学)对偶线性规划概念的引入这一知识模块为例,探讨通过问题串形式进行问题驱动、多元表征的概念教学过程.即遵循问题驱动—兴趣驱动—问题意识发展—提出和解决新问题,依据数学与外部联系、数学内部联系两条主线设计教学和学习,探索如何通过问题驱动、多元表征的结构化教学过程引导学生的学习方式发生改变,增强探究学习的动机,发展问题解决能力.课堂教学实践证明效果优于以往单一的讲授式教学法,一定程度上提高了学生的学业成绩、应用问题的兴趣和问题解决意识.  相似文献
