On a three–dimensional exterior domain Ω we consider the Dirichlet problem for the stationary Navier–Stokes system. We construct an approximation problem on the domain ΩR, which is the intersection of Ω with a sufficiently large ball, while we create nonlinear, but local artificial boundary conditions on the truncation boundary. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solutions to the approximating problem together with asymptotically precise pointwise error estimates as R tends to infinity.  相似文献

We analyze the finite element approximation of the spectral problem for the linear elasticity equation with mixed boundary conditions on a curved non-convex domain. In the framework of the abstract spectral approximation theory, we obtain optimal order error estimates for the approximation of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Two kinds of problems are considered: the discrete domain does not coincide with the real one and mixed boundary conditions are imposed. Some numerical results are presented.  相似文献

We seek to optimally control a reflection boundary coefficient for an acoustic wave equation. The goal-quantified by an objective functional- is to drive the solution close to a target by adjusting this coefficient, which acts as a control. The problem is solved by finding the optimal control, which minimizes the objective functional. Then the optimal control is used as a an approximation for an inverse “ identification” problem.  相似文献

In this article we consider the inverse problem of identifying a time dependent unknown coefficient in a parabolic problem subject to initial and non-local boundary conditions along with an overspecified condition defined at a specific point in the spatial domain. Due to the non-local boundary condition, the system of linear equations resulting from the backward Euler approximation have a coefficient matrix that is a quasi-tridiagonal matrix. We consider an efficient method for solving the linear system and the predictor–corrector method for calculating the solution and updating the estimate of the unknown coefficient. Two model problems are solved to demonstrate the performance of the methods.  相似文献

We consider the numerical approximations of the three-dimensional steady potential flow around a body moving in a liquid of finite constant depth at constant speed and distance below a free surface in a channel. One vertical side is introduced as the up-stream artificial boundary and two vertical sides are introduced as the downstream arti-ficial boundaries. On the artificial boundaries, a sequence of high-order global artificial boundary conditions are given. Then the original problem is reduced to a problem defined on a finite computational domain, which is equivalent to a variational problem. After solving the variational problem by the finite element method, we obtain the numerical approximation of the original problem. The numerical examples show that the artificial boundary conditions given in this paper are very effective.  相似文献

We consider a model homogenization problem for the Poisson equation in a domain with a rapidly oscillating boundary which is a small random perturbation of a fixed hypersurface. A Fourier boundary condition with random coefficients is imposed on the oscillating boundary. We derive the effective boundary condition, prove a convergence result, and establish error estimates.  相似文献

We present an analytical approximation for the diffusive flux of a substrate into a reactive layer, in which the substrate is degraded according to Monod kinetics. This problem is described by a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem. The approximation is derived based on a Homotopy Analysis Method idea and verified computationally, by comparison against a numerical solution of the problem. The analytical approximation is easy to evaluate and depends only on model parameters.  相似文献

Finite-dimensional approximations are developed for retarded delay differential equations (DDEs). The DDE system is equivalently posed as an initial-boundary value problem consisting of hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs). By exploiting the equivalence of partial derivatives in space and time, we develop a new PDE representation for the DDEs that is devoid of boundary conditions. The resulting boundary condition-free PDEs are discretized using the Galerkin method with Legendre polynomials as the basis functions, whereupon we obtain a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) that is a finite-dimensional approximation of the original DDE system. We present several numerical examples comparing the solution obtained using the approximate ODEs to the direct numerical simulation of the original non-linear DDEs. Stability charts developed using our method are compared to existing results for linear DDEs. The presented results clearly demonstrate that the equivalent boundary condition-free PDE formulation accurately captures the dynamic behaviour of the original DDE system and facilitates the application of control theory developed for systems governed by ODEs.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with well-posedness of the Cahn–Hilliard equation subject to a class of new dynamic boundary conditions. The system was recently derived in Liu–Wu (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 233 (2019), 167–247) via an energetic variational approach and it naturally fulfils three physical constraints such as mass conservation, energy dissipation and force balance. The target problem examined in this paper can be viewed as a transmission problem that consists of Cahn–Hilliard type equations both in the bulk and on the boundary. In our approach, we are able to deal with a general class of potentials with double-well structure, including the physically relevant logarithmic potential and the non-smooth double-obstacle potential. Existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence of global weak solutions are established. The proof is based on a novel time-discretization scheme for the approximation of the continuous problem. Besides, a regularity result is shown with the aim of obtaining a strong solution to the system.  相似文献

In this article, we discuss a scheme for dealing with Neumann and mixed boundary conditions using a compact stencil. The resulting compact algorithm for solving systems of nonlinear reaction‐diffusion equations is fourth‐order accurate in both the temporal and spatial dimensions. We also prove that the standard second‐order approximation to zero Neumann boundary conditions provides fourth‐order accuracy when the nonlinear reaction term is independent of the spatial variables. Numerical examples, including an application of this algorithm to a mathematical model describing frontal polymerization process, are presented in the article to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the scheme. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we consider a 2nd order semilinear parabolic initial boundary value problem (IBVP) on a bounded domain N, with nonstandard boundary conditions (BCs). More precisely, at some part of the boundary we impose a Neumann BC containing an unknown additive space-constant (t), accompanied with a nonlocal (integral) Dirichlet side condition. We design a numerical scheme for the approximation of a weak solution to the IBVP and derive error estimates for the approximation of the solution u and also of the unknown function .  相似文献

We propose two methods to enclose the solution of an ordinary free boundary problem. The problem is reformulated as a nonlinear boundary value problem on a fixed interval including an unknown parameter. By appropriately setting a functional space that depends on the finite element approximation, the solution is represented as a fixed point of a compact map. Then, by using the finite element projection with constructive error estimates, a Newton-type verification procedure is derived. In addition, numerical examples confirming the effectiveness of current methods are given.  相似文献

The paper is concerned with the study of an elliptic boundary value problem with a nonlinear Newton boundary condition considered in a two-dimensional nonpolygonal domain with a curved boundary. The existence and uniqueness of the solution of the continuous problem is a consequence of the monotone operator theory. The main attention is paid to the effect of the basic finite element variational crimes: approximation of the curved boundary by a polygonal one and the evaluation of integrals by numerical quadratures. With the aid of some important properties of Zlamal's ideal triangulation and interpolation, the convergence of the method is analyzed.  相似文献

We establish a stability estimate for an inverse boundary coefficient problem in thermal imaging. The inverse problem under consideration consists in the determination of a boundary coefficient appearing in a boundary value problem for the heat equation with Robin boundary condition (we note here that the initial condition is assumed to be a priori unknown). Our stability estimate is of logarithmic type and it is essentially based on a logarithmic estimate for a Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation.  相似文献

In this article a sixth‐order approximation method (in both temporal and spatial variables) for solving nonhomogeneous heat equations is proposed. We first develop a sixth‐order finite difference approximation scheme for a two‐point boundary value problem, and then heat equation is approximated by a system of ODEs defined on spatial grid points. The ODE system is discretized to a Sylvester matrix equation via boundary value method. The obtained algebraic system is solved by a modified Bartels‐Stewart method. The proposed approach is unconditionally stable. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of our approximation method along with comparisons with those generated by the standard second‐order Crank‐Nicolson scheme as well as Sun‐Zhang's recent fourth‐order method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article deals with a boundary value problem for Laplace equation with a non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition. This problem comes from petroleum engineering and is used to obtain an estimation of well productivity. The non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition is written on the well boundary. On the outer reservoir boundaries, we have both Dirichlet and Neumann conditions. In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution to this problem. The existence is proved by Schauder theorem and the uniqueness is obtained under more restricted conditions, when the involved operator is a contraction.
