In this paper, in order to solve a variational inequality problem over the fixed point set of a nonexpansive mapping on uniformly smooth or reflexive and strictly convex Banach spaces with a uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm, we investigate an explicit iteration method, based on the steepest-descent and Krasnosel’skii–Mann algorithms. We also show that some modifications of the last and Halpern-type algorithms are special cases of our result.  相似文献

We isolate various sufficient conditions for a Banach space X to have the so-called Blum-Hanson property. In particular, we show that X has the Blum-Hanson property if either the modulus of asymptotic smoothness of X has an extremal behaviour at infinity, or if X is uniformly Gâteaux smooth and embeds isometrically into a Banach space with a 1-unconditional finite-dimensional decomposition.  相似文献

A special case of our main theorem, when combined with a known result of Brezis and Pazy, shows that in reflexive Banach spaces with a uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm, resolvent consistency is equivalent to convergence for nonlinear contractive algorithms. (The linear case is due to Chernoff.) The proof uses ideas of Crandall, Liggett, and Baillon. Other applications of our theorem include results concerning the generation of nonlinear semigroups (e.g., a nonlinear Hille-Yosida theorem for “nice” Banach spaces that includes the familiar Hilbert space result), the geometry of Banach spaces, extensions of accretive operators, invariance criteria, and the asymptotic behavior of nonlinear semigroups and resolvents. The equivalence between resolvent consistency and convergence for nonlinear contractive algorithms seems to be new even in Hilbert space. Our nonlinear Hille-Yosida theorem is the first of its kind outside Hilbert space. It establishes a biunique correspondence between m-accretive operators and semigroups on nonexpansive retracts of “nice” Banach spaces and provides affirmative answers to two questions of Kato.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a new approach to the problem of finding a common zero for a system of m‐accretive mappings in a uniformly convex Banach space with a uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm. We propose an implicit iteration method and two explicit ones, based on compositions of resolvents with the steepest‐descent method. We show that our results contain some iterative methods in literature as special cases. An extension of the Xu's regularization method for the proximal point algorithm from Hilbert spaces onto Banach ones under simple conditions of convergence and a new variant for the method of alternating resolvents are obtained. Numerical experiments are given to affirm efficiency of the methods.  相似文献

A locally convex space is said to be a Gâteaux differentiability space (GDS) provided every continuous convex function defined on a nonempty convex open subset D of the space is densely Gâteaux differentiable in D. We examine the phenomenon of nonlinear stabilization, exhibiting a variety of related examples and counterexamples. For Gâteaux differentiable maps, we discuss a mechanism of nonlinear stabilization, in finite and infinite dimensions, which applies in particular to hyperbolic partial differential equations, and for Fréchet differentiable maps with linearized operators that are normal, we give a sharp criterion for nonlinear exponential instability at the linear rate. These results highlight the fundamental open question whether Fréchet differentiability is sufficient for linear exponential instability to imply nonlinear exponential instability, at possibly slower rate.  相似文献

The duality of two kinds of representations of convex sets is studied: the tangential representation of a convex body and the representations of its polar or negative polar by means of their weak* exposed points. The equivalence of the representations is proved and a condition for their validity is obtained for individual sets (the case of arbitrary locally convex space) and for classes of sets (the case of Gâteaux differentiability locally convex space). Properties of Gâteaux differentiability locally convex spaces are studied and some examples of such spaces are given.

We consider acoustic scattering problems described by the mixed boundary value problem for the scalar Helmholtz equation in the exterior of a 2D bounded domain or in the exterior of a crack. The boundary of the domain is assumed to have a finite set of corner points where the scattered wave may have singular behaviour. The paper is concerned with the sensitivity of the far‐field pattern with respect to small perturbations of the shape of the scatterer. Using a modification of the method of adjoint problems, we obtain an integral representation for the Gâteaux derivative which contains only boundary values of functions easily computable by standard BEM and which depends explicitly on the perturbation of the boundary. In some cases, we show the direct influence of the singularities of the solution on the sensitivity of the far‐field pattern. In this way, we generalize the domain sensitivity analysis developed earlier for smooth domains by Hettlich, Kirsch, Kress, Potthast and others.
