Stability of a Laser-diode-pumped Cr4+∶YAG Passively Q-switched Nd3+∶YAG Laser

In this paper, the stability of a laser-diode-pumped Cr4+∶YAG passively Nd3+∶YAG Q-switched laser and the influence of the transversal mode structure on the stability are investigated. With the laser operating in TEM00 mode, the pulse energy fluctuation and the repetition rate fluctuation as functions of the repetition rate are measured, and semi-quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed, respectively.

Q-Switched Tm：YAG Laser Intracavity-Pumped by a 1064nm Laser

We report a Q-switched 2-μm Tm：YAG laser based on intracavity-pumped by a 1064-nm Nd：YAG laser operating at room temperature for the first time. An average output power of 5.1W is obtained with the repetition rate of 30kHz and a pulse width of 300ns. In addition, we demonstrate a 12.5-W continuous-wave 2-μm Tm：YAG laser, which is, to our best knowledge, the highest power for intracavity-pumping configuration.

Ablation of GaN Using a Femtosecond Laser

We study the pulsed laser ablation of wurtzite gallium nitride(GaN) films grown on sapphire,using the femtosecond laser beam at a central wavelength of 800nm as the source for the high-speed ablation of GaN films.By measuring the backscattered Raman spectrum of ablated samples,the dependence of the ablation depth on laser fluence with one pulse was obtained.The threwshold laser fluence for the ablation of GaN films was determined to be about 0.25J/cm^2,Laser ablation depth increases with the increasing laser fluence until the amount of removed material is not further increased.The ablated surface was investigated by an optical surface interference profile meter.     

Blue Up-Conversion Fibre Laser Pumped by a ll20-nm Raman Fibre Laser

A Tm^3 -doped ZrF4-BaF2-LaF3 AlF3-NaF (ZBLAN) fibre up-conversion laser pumped by a 1120-nm Raman fibre laser is demonstrated with blue output power levels up to 116mW. For the output mirror with 80^ reflectivity, the slope efficiency is about 15%, the optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is 11%, and the maximum un-saturated output power is 116mW. For 60% reflectivity, the slope efficiency is about 18% and the opticalto-optical conversion efficiency is 12%, whilst the maximum saturated output power is about 80roW due to the existence of photo-degradation effect in Tm^3 doped ZBLAN glass fibre.

Comment on Q-Switched Tm：YAG Laser Intracavity-Pumped by a 1064 nm Laser

The paper published in Chin. Phys. Lett. 26 （2009） 124211 reported a Q-switched 2-tim Tm：YAG laser that is intracavity pumped by a Nd： YAG laser with emission at 1.06μm. However, analysis of the experimental setup concludes that only the Nd：YAG laser is Q-switched, and the Tm：YAG laser operates in the free-generation regime. Therefore, Q-switch operation for the 2μm emission wavelength is not realized.
