Let G be a finite solvable group, and let F(G) be its Fitting subgroup. We prove that there is a universal bound for the derived length of G/F(G) in terms of the number of distinct conjugacy class sizes of G. This result is asymptotically best possible. It is based on the following result on orbit sizes in finite linear group actions: If G is a finite solvable group and V a finite faithful irreducible G-module of characteristic r, then there is a universal logarithmic bound for the derived length of G in terms of the number of distinct r-parts of the orbit sizes of G on V. This is a refinement of the author's previous work on orbit sizes.  相似文献

Let G be a finite solvable group and let p be a prime. Let P ∈ Syl p (G) and N = N G (P). We prove that there exists a natural bijection between the 2-Brauer irreducible characters of p′-degree of G and those of N G (P).  相似文献

Let G be the simple, simply connected algebraic group SL 3 defined over an algebraically closed field K of characteristic p > 0. In this article, we find H 2(G, V) for any irreducible G-module V. When p > 7, we also find H 2(G(q), V) for any irreducible G(q)-module V for the finite Chevalley groups G(q) = SL(3, q) where q is a power of p.  相似文献

Abstract

For an element a of a group G,let S(a) denote the semigroup generated by all conjugates of a in G. We prove that if G is solvable of finite rank and 1 ? S(a) for all 1 ≠ a ∈ G,then ?a G ?/?b G ? is a periodic group for every b ∈ S(a). Conversely if every two generator subgroup of a finitely generated torsion-free solvable group G has this property then G has finite rank, and if every finitely generated subgroup has this property then every partial order on G can be extended to a total order.  相似文献

Abstract

Let 𝒪 be a discrete valuation ring whose residue field 𝒪/𝔭 is finite and has odd characteristic. Let l be a positive integer. Set R = 𝒪/𝔭 l and let R = R[θ] be the ring obtained by adjoining to R a square root of a non-square unit. Consider the involution σ of R that fixes R elementwise and sends θ to ? θ. Let V be a free R-module of rank n > 0 endowed with a non-degenerate hermitian form ( , ) relative to σ. Let U n (R) be the subgroup of GL(V) that preserves ( , ). Let SU n (R) be the subgroup of all g ∈ U n (R) whose determinant is equal to one. Let Ψ be the Weil character of U n (R).

All irreducible constituents of Ψ are determined. An explicit character formula is given for each of them. In particular, all character degrees are computed. For n > 2 the corresponding results are also obtained for the restriction of Ψ to SU n (R).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let F m (N) be the free left nilpotent (of class two) Leibniz algebra of finite rank m, with m ≥ 2. We show that F m (N) has non-tame automorphisms and, for m ≥ 3, the automorphism group of F m (N) is generated by the tame automorphisms and one more non-tame IA-automorphism. Let F(N) be the free left nilpotent Leibniz algebra of rank greater than 1 and let G be an arbitrary non-trivial finite subgroup of the automorphism group of F(N). We prove that the fixed point subalgebra F(N) G is not finitely generated.  相似文献

Let 𝒲 be the Virasoro-like algebra, and d 1, d 2 be the degree derivations of 𝒲. Set ? = W⊕C d 1⊕C d 2. Let F α(V) be the ?-module defined by Larsson's functor applied to a finite dimensional sl 2-module V. The following question was raised by Bruce Richter. Let G be a planar, 3‐connected graph that is not a complete graph. Denoting by d(v) the degree of vertex v, is G L‐list colorable for every list assignment L with |L(v)| = min{d(v), 6} for all vV(G)? More generally, we ask for which pairs (r, k) the following question has an affirmative answer. Let r and k be the integers and let G be a K5‐minor‐free r‐connected graph that is not a Gallai tree (i.e. at least one block of G is neither a complete graph nor an odd cycle). Is G L‐list colorable for every list assignment L with |L(v)| = min{d(v), k} for all vV(G)? We investigate this question by considering the components of G[Sk], where Sk: = {vV(G)|d(v)8k} is the set of vertices with small degree in G. We are especially interested in the minimum distance d(Sk) in G between the components of G[Sk]. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 71:18–30, 2012  相似文献

Let G be a nonabelian group and associate a noncommuting graph ?(G) with G as follows: The vertex set of ?(G) is G\Z(G) with two vertices x and y joined by an edge whenever the commutator of x and y is not the identity. In 1987, Professor J. G. Thompson gave the following conjecture.

Thompson's Conjecture. If G is a finite group with Z(G) = 1 and M is a nonabelian simple group satisfying N(G) = N(M), then G ? M, where N(G):={n ∈ ? | G has a conjugacy class of size n}.

In 2006, A. Abdollahi, S. Akbari, and H. R. Maimani put forward a conjecture (AAM's conjecture) in Abdollahi et al. (2006) as follows.

AAM's Conjecture. Let M be a finite nonabelian simple group and G a group such that ?(G) ? ? (M). Then G ? M.

In this short article we prove that if G is a finite group with ?(G) ? ? (A 10), then G ? A 10, where A 10 is the alternating group of degree 10.  相似文献

For a finite group G, let v(G) denote the number of conjugacy classes of non-normal subgroups of G and vc(G) denote the number of conjugacy classes of non-normal noncyclic subgroups of G. In this paper, we show that every finite group G satisfying v(G) ≤2|π(G)| or vc(G) ≤ |π(G)| is solvable, and for a finite nonsolvable group G, v(G) = 2|π(G)| +1 if and only if G ? A 5.  相似文献

Let α be an ordinal and κ be a cardinal, both infinite, such that κ ≤ |α|. For τ ∈αα, let sup(τ) = {i ∈ α: τ(i) ≠ i}. Let G κ = {τ ∈αα: |sup(τ)| < κ}. We consider variants of polyadic equality algebras by taking cylindrifications on Γ ? α, |Γ| < κ and substitutions restricted to G κ. Such algebras are also enriched with generalized diagonal elements. We show that for any variety V containing the class of representable algebas and satisfying a finite schema of equations, V fails to have the amalgamation property. In particular, many varieties of Halmos’ quasi-polyadic equality algebras and Lucas’ extended cylindric algebras (including that of the representable algebras) fail to have the amalgamation property.  相似文献

Abstract

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic ≠2 and let G be a connected, reductive algebraic group with involution θ ∈ Aut(G). A (G, θ)-module is a rational G-module with a compatible action of θ. The purpose of this note is to classify the irreducible (G, θ)-modules.  相似文献

Suppose V is a completely reducible faithful G-module for a solvable group G, we show G has a “large” orbit on V. Specifically, there is vV such that CG(v) is contained in a normal subgroup of derived length 9 contained in the seventh ascending Fitting subgroup of G. This is in some ways best possible. This is applied to generate many theorems showing that a solvable group must have characters of large degree.  相似文献

The main result of the paper is the following theorem. Let G be a locally finite group having a four-subgroup V such that C G (V) is finite. Suppose that V contains two involutions v 1 and v 2 such that the centralizers C G (v 1) and C G (v 2) have finite exponent. Then G is almost locally soluble and [G, V]′ has finite exponent. Since [G, V] has finite index in G, the result gives a fairly detailed information about the structure of G.  相似文献

Abstract

For vector spaces V and W over a field F, L F (V, W) denotes the set of all linear transformations α : V → W, and for a cardinal number k > 0, let L F (V, W, k) be the set of all α ∈ L F (V, W) of rank less than k. For θ ∈ L F (W, V), let (L F (V, W, k), θ) denote the semigroup L F (V, W, k) under the operation ? defined by α ? β = αθβ for all α, β ∈ L F (V, W, k). In this paper, all 0-minimal quasi-ideals of the semigroup (L F (V, W, k), θ) are completely characterized. It is also shown from this characterization that every nonzero semigroup (L F (V, W, k), θ) always has a 0-minimal quasi-ideal.  相似文献

Let Φ be a Drinfeld A-module over an A-field K of generic characteristic. We will prove the following two results which are analogous to ones in number fields. Case 1. Φ is of rank one. Suppose that P and Q are two nontorsion points in Φ(K). If for any element a ? A and almost all prime ideals 𝒫 in  one has that Φ a (P) ≡ 0 (mod 𝒫) ? Φ a (Q) ≡ 0 (mod 𝒫), then Q = Φ m (P) for some m ? A. Case 2. Φ is of general rank ≥ 1. Let x, y ? Φ(K) be two K-rational points. Denote  = End K (Φ) which is commutative and Λ =  · y which is a cyclic -module. Let red v :Φ(K) → Φ(k v ) be the reduction map at a place v of K with residue field k v . If red v (x) ? red v (Λ) for almost all places v of K. Then f(x) = g(y), for some nonzero elements f and g in .  相似文献

Let L be a finite dimensional Lie algebra over a field F. It is well known that the solvable radical S(L) of the algebra L is a characteristic ideal of L if char F = 0, and there are counterexamples to this statement in case char F = p > 0. We prove that the sum S(L) of all solvable ideals of a Lie algebra L (not necessarily finite dimensional) is a characteristic ideal of L in the following cases: 1) char F = 0; 2) S(L) is solvable and its derived length is less than log2 p.  相似文献

For any group G such that G is a right R-module for some ring R, the elements of R act on G as endomorphisms and we obtain the near-ring of R-homogeneous maps on G: MR(G) = {f: G → G|f(ga) = f(g)a for all a ∈ R, g ∈ G}. In the special case that R is a topological ring and G is a topological R-module, we study NR(G): = {f ∈ MR(G)|f is continuous}. In particular, we investigate primeness of the near-ring NR(G) of continuous homogeneous maps on G.  相似文献
