In this article, we propose a new conjugate gradient type formula for computing unconstrained optimization problems. Its form is similar to the original PRP formula and it inherits all nice properties of the PRP method. By utilizing the technique of the three-term PRP method in Zhang [20] and modified PRP method in Yu [17], we propose two modified methods of the new formula. The two modified methods all can generate sufficient descent directions which is independent of the line search used. Under some mild conditions, the global convergence and the linearly convergent rate of the two modified methods are established. The numerical results show that the proposed methods are efficient. 相似文献

We extend in several directions a complete convergence theorem for row sums from an array of rowwise independent random variables obtained by Sung, Volodin, and Hu [8] to an array of rowwise independent random elements taking values in a real separable Rademacher type p Banach space. An example is presented which illustrates that our result extends the Sung, Volodin, and Hu result even for the random variable case. 相似文献

The results of [7] and [2] gave a recursive construction for all quasi-hereditary and standardly stratified algebras starting with local algebras and suitable bimodules. Using the notion of stratifying pairs of subcategories, introduced in [3], we generalize these earlier results to construct recursively all CPS-stratified algebras. 相似文献

In [7] we introduced the notion of full quivers of representations of algebras, which are more explicit than quivers of algebras, and better suited for algebras over finite fields. Here, we consider full quivers as a combinatorial tool in order to describe PI-varieties of algebras. We apply the theory to clarify the proofs of diverse topics in the literature: Determining which relatively free algebras are weakly Noetherian, determining when relatively free algebras are finitely presented, presenting a quick proof for the rationality of the Hilbert series of a relatively free PI-algebra, and explaining counterexamples to Specht's conjecture for varieties of Lie algebras. 相似文献

We prove that there are no networks homeomorphic to the Greek “Theta” letter (a double cell) embedded in the plane with two triple junctions with angles of 120 degrees, such that under the motion by curvature they are self–similarly shrinking.This fact completes the classification of the self–similarly shrinking networks in the plane with at most two triple junctions, see [5, 10, 25, 2]. 相似文献

In this article, we investigate the convergence rate of the CG-DESCENT method proposed by Hager and Zhang [1]. Under reasonable conditions, we show that the CG-DESCENT method with the Wolfe line search will be n-step superlinear and even quadratic convergence if some restart technique is used. A semigroup S is called F-monoid if S has an identity and if there exists a group congruence ρ on S such that each ρ-class of S contains a greatest element with respect to the natural partial order of S (see Mitsch, 1986). Generalizing results given in Giraldes et al. (2004) and specializing some of Giraldes et al. (Submitted) five characterizations of such monoids S are provided. Three unary operations “?”, “○”, and “ ? ” on S defined by means of the greatest elements in the different ρ-classes of S are studied. Using their properties a charaterization of F-monoids S by their regular part S° = {a°|a ? S} and the associates of elements in S° is given. Under the hypothesis that S ? = {a ?|a ? S} is a subsemigroup it is shown that S is regular, whence of a known structure (see Giraldes et al., 2004). 相似文献

We investigate further the existence of solutions to kinetic models of chemotaxis. These are nonlinear transport-scattering equations with a quadratic nonlinearity which have been used to describe the motion of bacteria since the 80's when experimental observations have shown they move by a series of ‘run and tumble’. The existence of solutions has been obtained in several papers Chalub et al. (2004), Hwang et al. (2005a b) using direct and strong dispersive effects. Here, we use the weak dispersion estimates of Castella and Perthame (1996) to prove global existence in various situations depending on the turning kernel. In the most difficult cases, where both the velocities before and after tumbling appear, with the known methods, only Strichartz estimates can give a result, with a smallness assumption. 相似文献

French (1977), Harary (1959), and Abelson (1964) initiated a prominent line of social influence models to explain social norms or collective decisions from the structure of influence networks. These models fail to generate unstable decision dynamics, a phenomenon that can be observed in collective decision-making. To capture instability, we assume that decision-makers raise their level of salience to reduce expected losses from decision-outcomes. Our model generates persistently unstable outcome patterns under conditions related to the social network and to intolerance for expected losses. A 6-actor example reveals stable outcomes for low intolerance, complex oscillations for intermediate levels of intolerance, and simple and regular oscillation for high intolerance. We discuss implications for the predictability of collective decision-making. 相似文献

Abstract This article considers the computation issues of the infinite dimensional HJB equation arising from the finite horizon optimal control problem of a general system of stochastic functional differential equations with a bounded memory treated in [2]. The finite difference scheme, using the result in [1], is obtained to approximate the viscosity solution of the infinite dimensional HJB equation. The convergence of the scheme is proved using the Banach fixed point theorem. The computational algorithm also is provided based on the scheme obtained. 相似文献

Some asymptotic properties of a Brownian motion in multifractal time, also called multifractal random walk, are established. We show the almost sure and L 1 convergence of its structure function. This is an issue directly connected to the scale invariance and multifractal property of the sample paths. We place ourselves in a mixed asymptotic setting where both the observation length and the sampling frequency may go together to infinity at different rates. The results we obtain are similar to the ones that were given by Ossiander and Waymire [19] and Bacry et al. [1] in the simpler framework of Mandelbrot cascades. 相似文献

In this article, a simple of combined singular stochastic control and optimal stopping in the jump-diffusion model is formulated and solved. We give sufficient conditions for the existence of an optimal strategy which has the same form as in continuous case given by Davis and Zervos [3] and also Karatzas et al. [5]. In this article, we provide a semilocal analysis for the Steffensen-type method (STTM) for solving nonlinear equations in a Banach space setting using recurrence relations.
