The Ostrovsky equation is an important canonical model for the unidirectional propagation of weakly nonlinear long surface and internal waves in a rotating, inviscid and incompressible fluid. Limited functional analytic results exist for the occurrence of one family of solitary-wave solutions of this equation, as well as their approach to the well-known solitons of the famous Korteweg–de Vries equation in the limit as the rotation becomes vanishingly small. Since solitary-wave solutions often play a central role in the long-time evolution of an initial disturbance, we consider such solutions here (via the normal form approach) within the framework of reversible systems theory. Besides confirming the existence of the known family of solitary waves and its reduction to the KdV limit, we find a second family of multihumped (or N-pulse) solutions, as well as a continuum of delocalized solitary waves (or homoclinics to small-amplitude periodic orbits). On isolated curves in the relevant parameter region, the delocalized waves reduce to genuine embedded solitons. The second and third families of solutions occur in regions of parameter space distinct from the known solitary-wave solutions and are thus entirely new. Directions for future work are also mentioned.  相似文献

Variational methods are employed to generate families of both regular and embedded solitary wave solutions for a generalized Pochammer PDE that is currently of great interest. The technique for obtaining the embedded solitons incorporates several recent generalizations of the usual variational technique and is thus topical in itself. One unusual feature of the solitary waves derived here is that we are able to obtain them in analytical form (within the family of the trial functions). Thus, a direct error analysis is performed, showing the accuracy of the resulting solitary waves. Given the importance of solitary wave solutions in wave dynamics and information propagation in nonlinear PDEs, as well as the fact that only the parameter regimes for the existence of solitary waves had previously been analyzed for the microstructure PDE considered here, the results obtained here are both new and timely.  相似文献

In this paper, we classify the travelling wave solutions to the nonlinear dispersive KdV equation (called K(2, 2) equation). The parameter region is specified and the parameter dependence of its solitary waves is described. Besides the previously known compacton solutions, the equation is shown to admit more new solutions such as cuspons, peakons, loopons, stumpons and fractal-like waves. Furthermore, by the qualitative results, we give some new explicit travelling wave solutions.  相似文献

We present in this paper a generalised PC (GPC) equation which includes several known models. The corresponding traveling wave system is derived and we show that the homoclinic orbits of the traveling wave system correspond to the solitary waves of GPC equation, and the heteroclnic orbits correspond to the kink waves. Under some parameter conditions, the existence of above two types of orbits is demonstrated and the explicit expressions of the two solutions are worked out.  相似文献

Stationary solutions of reversible evolutionary equations of mechanics with higher derivatives are analysed. A two-dimensional graphical method for investigating the solutions of systems of ordinary differential equations is described, which enables one to find special types of solutions: periodic waves, solitary waves and the structures of discontinuities. At the same time, solitary waves can be obtained by taking the limit of sequences of periodic waves and the structures of discontinuities obtained by taking the limit of sequences of solitary waves. This general approach has enabled the existence of all earlier predicted structures to be verified has enabled new types of structures (three-wave structures) to be revealed and has enabled all the necessary conditions at the discontinuities to be found. All the previously known types of solitary waves are found and new types of solitary waves are revealed (generalized ordinary and 1:1 multisolitons). Methods of finding generalized solitary waves, including those with a finite amplitude of the periodic component, are determined. Examples of the solution of the following problems are given for a fourth-order system: generalized solitary waves as the limiting solutions of two-wave resonance solutions, generalized solitary waves and the structure of a discontinuity with three waves, a 1:1 soliton and the structure of a discontinuity with a single radiated wave, a solitary wave with fixed propagation velocity, and the structure of a discontinuity in the form of a kink with radiation. A generalized 1:1 soliton and the structure of a discontinuity with two radiated waves is considered in the case of sixth-order systems. The discussion is mainly based on the example of travelling waves described by the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations. Other models with complex dispersion (a plasma and a stratified fluid) are also considered.  相似文献

In this paper, coexistence and simplified formulations of the solitary waves of the cubic–quintic non-linear Schrödinger equation (CQNLS) are investigated by analyzing the steady bifurcation and the energy integral of the conservative dynamical system satisfied by the wave packet. It is found that the bright solitary waves can coexist with kinks and anti-kinks in a range of the bifurcation control parameter. There exists a critical parameter value at which the dark solitary waves are distinguished from the bright solitary waves, kinks and anti-kinks. All of the simplified solitary wave solutions, kinks and anti-kinks are obtained by using our previously developed approximate method.  相似文献

In this study, by using planar bifurcation method of dynamical system, we study a generalized Camassa-Holm (gCH) equation. As results, under different parameter conditions, many bounded travelling wave solutions such as periodic waves, periodic cusp waves, solitary waves, peakons, loops and kink waves are given. The dynamic properties of these exact solutions are investigated.  相似文献

In this paper, the effects of quadratic singular curves in integrable wave equations are studied by using the bifurcation theory of dynamical system. Some new singular solitary waves (pseudo‐cuspons) and periodic waves are found more weak than regular singular traveling waves such as peaked soliton (peakon), cusp soliton (cuspon), cusp periodic wave, etc. We show that while the first‐order derivatives of the new singular solitary wave and periodic waves exist, their second‐order derivatives are discontinuous at finite number of points for the solitary waves or at infinitely countable points for the periodic wave. Moreover, an intrinsic connection is constructed between the singular traveling waves and quadratic singular curves in the phase plane of traveling wave system. The new singular periodic waves, pseudo‐cuspons, and compactons emerge if corresponding periodic orbits or homoclinic orbits are tangent to a hyperbola, ellipse, and parabola. In particular, pseudo‐cuspon is proposed for the first time. Finally, we study the qualitative behavior of the new singular solitary wave and periodic wave solutions through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.  相似文献

The one-dimensional Euler–Poisson system arises in the study of phenomena of plasma such as plasma solitons, plasma sheaths, and double layers. When the system is rescaled by the Gardner–Morikawa transformation, the rescaled system is known to be formally approximated by the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation. In light of this, we show existence of solitary wave solutions of the Euler–Poisson system in the stretched moving frame given by the transformation, and prove that they converge to the solitary wave solution of the associated KdV equation as the small amplitude parameter tends to zero. Our results assert that the formal expansion for the rescaled system is mathematically valid in the presence of solitary waves and justify Sagdeev's formal approximation for the solitary wave solutions of the pressureless Euler–Poisson system. Our work extends to the isothermal case.  相似文献

In this paper we employ two recent analytical approaches to investigate the possible classes of traveling wave solutions of some members of a recently-derived integrable family of generalized Camassa–Holm (GCH) equations. A recent, novel application of phase-plane analysis is employed to analyze the singular traveling wave equations of three of the GCH NLPDEs, i.e. the possible non-smooth peakon and cuspon solutions. One of the considered GCH equations supports both solitary (peakon) and periodic (cuspon) cusp waves in different parameter regimes. The second equation does not support singular traveling waves and the last one supports four-segmented, non-smooth M-wave solutions. Moreover, smooth traveling waves of the three GCH equations are considered. Here, we use a recent technique to derive convergent multi-infinite series solutions for the homoclinic orbits of their traveling-wave equations, corresponding to pulse (kink or shock) solutions respectively of the original PDEs. We perform many numerical tests in different parameter regime to pinpoint real saddle equilibrium points of the corresponding GCH equations, as well as ensure simultaneous convergence and continuity of the multi-infinite series solutions for the homoclinic orbits anchored by these saddle points. Unlike the majority of unaccelerated convergent series, high accuracy is attained with relatively few terms. We also show the traveling wave nature of these pulse and front solutions to the GCH NLPDEs.  相似文献

We investigate exact soliton solutions for the discrete nonlinear electrical transmission line by performing the simplest equation method from a trivial seed solution. Starting from the nonlinear propagation of signals in electrical transmission lines, we derive exact traveling kink and antikink solitary wave solutions. It is shown that under a safe range of parameter, the shape of kink soliton can be controlled well by adjusting the parameter of the line. The analytical solutions for the kink and antikink solitary waves are tested in direct simulations.  相似文献

The defocusing Hirota equation has dark and gray soliton solutions which are stable on a background of periodic waves of constant amplitude. In this paper, gray solitary wave evolution for a higher-order defocusing Hirota equation is examined. A direct analysis is used to identify families of higher-order gray Hirota solitary waves, which are embedded for certain parameter values. Soliton perturbation theory is used to determine the detailed behavior of an evolving higher-order gray Hirota solitary wave. An integral expression for the first-order correction to the wave is found and analytical expressions for the steady-state and transient components of the solitary wave tail are derived. A subtle and complex picture of the development of solitary wave tails emerges. It is found that solitary wave tails develop for two reasons, one is decay of the solitary wave caused by resonance, the second is corrections at first-order to the background wave. Strong agreement is found between the theoretical predictions of the perturbation theory and numerical solutions of the governing equations.  相似文献
