A series of thermotropic liquid crystalline poly(ester-imide)s was synthesized by melt polymerization of diacetoxynaphthalene acid and n-(ω-carboxyalkylene) trimellitic imides. All polymers with 2,6 substituent positions (n-2,6 PEIM) on the napthalene ring exhibit liquid crystalline phases, whereas polymers with 2,7 substituent positions (n-2,7 PEIM) do not. This result suggests that the kink structure of n-2,7 PEIMS would hinder the formation of liquid crystalline polymer. The copoly(ester-imide)s with an irregular sequence of aliphatic units and aromatic mesogens showed the liquid crystallinity with the lower transition temperatures and a lesser tendency to crystallize than homopoly(ester-imide)s. The semicrystalline polymers with more regular monomeric sequence in the main chain showed the hysteresis of viscoelastic property in the temperature cycle. A nematic glassy copolymer gave the higher molecular orientation to the fiber than a semicrystalline polymer. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The synthesis of an aromatic ester based liquid crystalline epoxy resin (LCE) with a substituent in the mesogenic central group is described. Chlorine and methyl groups were introduced as substituents. The curing behaviors of three epoxy resins were investigated using diaminodiphenyl ester as the curing agent. The curing rate and heat of curing of LCE were measured with dynamic and isothermal DSC. The chlorine substituent accelerated the curing of LCE, while the methyl substituent decelerated the curing of LCE. The heat of curing of substituted LCE was diminished compared to LCE with no substituent. Glass transition temperature and elastic modulus of LCE decreased with increasing the size of the substituent. Three liquid crystalline epoxy resins based on aromatic ester mesogenic groups formed a liquid crystalline phase after curing, and the liquid crystalline phase was stable up to the decomposition temperature. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new and high-purity hydrocarbon liquid crystal monomers were synthesized through the acylation reaction, deoxygenation reaction, and Grignard reaction. 1H-NMR spectra and elemental analyses were used to examine their purity. The liquid crystalline polysiloxane polymers were obtained by grafting the monomers onto poly(methylhydrosiloxane). The thermal transition temperature, mesomorphic properties, and mesophase textures of the monomers and the polymers were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (dsc), polarized optical microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. Moreover, we observed the even–odd effect of the smectic/isotropic transition temperature with the length variation of the substituents. In this study, we found by X-ray diffraction that the liquid crystalline polysiloxane polymers undergo a transition from smectic B to smectic E mesophase. However, dsc has difficulty detecting the phase transition process. By considering the spin–lattice relaxation time (T1), we can systematically explain the relation between the flexibility of the substituent with the smectic/isotropic transition temperature. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The synthesis of side chain liquid crystalline polysiloxanes containing oligooxyethylene spacers and ( S )-2-methylbutyl 4-\[(4-oxybiphenyl-4-yl)carbonyloxy]-3-fluorobenzoate mesogenic side groups is presented. Differential scanning calorimetry, optical polarizing microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements reveal liquid crystalline properties for all synthesized monomers and polymers. All three precursor olefinic monomers reveal cholesteric and smectic A phases. The olefinic monomer which contains two oligooxyethylene units in the spacer is the only one which reveals a twist grain boundary A phase and a blue phase, besides the cholesteric and smectic A phases. All three polysiloxanes present enantiotropic smectic A and chiral smectic C phases. The mesomorphic behaviours of the monomers and polymers are compared with those of the corresponding monomers and polymers without the lateral fluoro substituent. The results seem to demonstrate that incorporating a lateral fluoro substituent in the mesogenic cores of the monomers affects not only the mesophase thermal stability, but also the nature of the mesophases formed. However, incorporating a lateral fluoro substituent in the mesogenic cores of the polymers affects only the thermal stability of the mesophases formed. The lateral fluoro substituent has a more profound effect on the mesomorphic behaviour for the monomers than that for the polymers.  相似文献

Side-chain liquid crystalline polymers with poly(silphenylene-siloxane) backbones and 4,4′-biphenyl-containing pendant mesogenic groups have been prepared and characterized. Polymers with spacers having only three methylene groups were not liquid crystalline, LC, but those with spacers having eight methylene groups or more and a long terminal substituent were LC as indicated by an isotropization peak on the shoulder of the melting peak in the DSC thermogram and the appearance of a Schlieren texture on examination by polarized light microscopy. However, the LC behavior could not be confirmed by wide-angle X-ray diffraction, WAXD, because the crystalline pattern apparently remained up to the isotropization temperature, presumably because the melting transition and isotropization are too close. In contrast, polymethylsiloxanes with the same mesogenic side-chains revealed the presence of well-defined smectic phases by WAXD as well as by polarized light microscopy.  相似文献

基于聚烯烃用成核剂的结构特征设计合成了两种极性基团和非极性基团交替排列的乙烯基单体,并利用自由基引发聚合,制备出相应的侧链型液晶聚合物.采用元素分析、红外光谱和核磁共振氢谱对所合成单体和聚合物的结构进行了确认.并采用热失重(TGA)和差示扫描量热仪(DSC)研究了聚合物的热稳定性和相转变温度.结果表明,所合成聚合物的起始热分解温度均在337℃以上,具有优异的热稳定性;液晶相变温度区间可达186 K,具有较宽的液晶态温度范围.热台偏光显微镜(HS-POM)研究结果表明,聚合物均呈现出纹影织构,证明所合成的聚合物均为热致向列型侧链液晶高分子.采用DSC和HS-POM研究了所合成的侧链液晶聚合物对高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)异相成核结晶行为的影响.结果表明,侧链型液晶聚合物在提高HDPE结晶温度、结晶度以及降低HDPE晶粒的尺寸及分布方面均有优异的效果,是一类HDPE有效的成核剂.  相似文献

Supramolecular liquid crystalline polymeric complexes have been prepared by the complexation of 4-alkyloxybenzoic acid derivatives and polyamides containing a 2,6-diaminopyridine moiety. 4-Alkyloxybenzoic acids substituted by methoxy, methyl, and nitro groups at the 3-position are used for the complexation. These polymeric complexes behave as single component liquid crystalline polymers and exhibit stable and enantiotropic mesophases. In contrast, simple 4-alkyloxybenzoic acids having no substituent at the 3-position, do not form stable complexes with the polymers. For low molecular mass complexes derived from 2,6-bis(acylamino)pyridine and 4-alkyloxybenzoic acid derivatives, substituent effects are different from those for the polymeric system. In these cases, mesomorphic behaviour is observed only for the complexes based on the simple 4-alkyloxybenzoic acid and 4-alkyloxy-3-methylbenzoic acid.  相似文献

Chiral liquid crystalline polymers containing biphenylene and azobenzene as the mesogensand S(-)-2-methyl-1-butanol as the chiral end group were synthesized and characterized by DSC,POM and X-ray diffraction. These polymers show crystalline or glassy liquid crystalline phase atroom temperature. Most polymers show smectic A or highly ordered smectic phases abovemelting temperature.  相似文献

The work focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of a series of mesogen‐jacketed liquid crystalline polymers (MJLCPs) based on the octyl substituted biphenyl mesogenic core through different linkage groups. The molecular characterizations of the polymers obtained by conventional free radical polymerization were performed with 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, and thermogravimetric analysis. Their thermotropic liquid crystalline (LC) behaviors were investigated in detail by a combination of various techniques, such as polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and 1D and 2D wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction. Our results showed that all the polymers were thermally stable, and their LC phases were greatly dependent on the linking groups between the biphenyl mesogenic core and terminal alkyl group substituent. Polymers with ether/ester or ether linkage group exhibited an unusual phase behavior with temperature increasing, tetragonal columnar nematic LC phase, or columnar nematic phase developed at high temperatures for the polymers transformed into amorphous phase during cooling process, showing a re‐entrant phase behaviors. However, polymers with ester linkage group were not LC with temperature varied. It is illustrated that subtle changes in the molecular structure brought about tremendous variation of the LC phase properties for MJLCPs. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A series of liquid crystalline polymers with T-shaped two-dimensional mesogenic unitswere synthesized via low temperature solution polycondensation of 2-(4'-alkoxy-phenyl)hydroquinone with various diacyl dichlorides. The polymers were found to be nematic andshown thermotropic liquid crystalline behaviors through observations using DSC, polarizedmicroscopy and X-ray diffraction. A series of liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) with T‐shaped two‐dimensional mesogenic units were synthesized via solution polycondensation. The LCPs were used as ligand polymers to coordinate with palladium dichloride, by which a series of polymeric palladium complexes were prepared. The liquid crystalline behaviors of the compounds were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized microscopy and X‐ray diffraction. The entire palladium complexes went to liquid crystal phase when heated to their melting temperature (T m), and a threaded texture was observed. The melting point of all the complexes changes regularly with the increase of the end alkoxy group length and the flexible spacer unit in the ligand polymer. It is worth noting that some of the complexes without end substituent groups in the ligand polymer were also found to show liquid crystal behaviors, which would be a subject for further investigation. A series of terephthalate polyesters was prepared from substituted hydroquinone monomers that contained a single cyclic or branched alkyl group. All the polymers were crystalline with melting points well below 400°C that decreased as the size of the cycloalkyl substituent increased. Most of the polymers had clearing temperatures below 400°C and all formed nematic melts. Copolyesters that contained equimolar amounts of two different substituted hydroquinone monomers, which were crystalline and had broad temperature ranges for nematic phase formation, were also prepared.  相似文献

利用紫外-可见光谱,对比研究了尾挂侧链液晶聚合物和腰挂侧链液晶聚合物在结晶相和液晶相转变过程中的液晶基元取向情况.研究表明,石英基材表面倾向于诱导偶氮液晶基元垂直于基材排列;观察到了在液晶态尾挂侧链液晶聚合物和腰挂侧链液晶聚合物的不同取向行为.在室温下重新结晶数天后,腰挂液晶聚合物的紫外可见光谱缓慢回复.  相似文献

A new series of halogen-containing side chain ferroelectric liquid crystal polymers was synthesized. Mesophases were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and molecular simulation. The behaviour of the liquid crystalline phase was investigated with variation of chiral centres, spacer units and grafted ratios. It was found that the thermal stability and temperature range of the chiral smectic C phase decreased with increasing length of the oligo-oxyethylene spacer, and decreasing mesogenic group content. The bulky substituent attached to the chiral centre reduces molecular packing in smectic liquid crystal phases, which disturbs the orientation of the side chain liquid crystal polymer. Furthermore, the influence of molecular structure on electrooptical properties of FLCPs has been studied by broad band dielectric spectroscopy (from 0.1 to 1 ×10 6 Hz).  相似文献

Three sets of novel side-chain liquid crystalline polymers with monosubstituted azobenzene moieties in the side-chain have been studied. These are poly(p-(4′-methoxy-4-oxyhexyloxy azobenzene) benzyl methacrylate) (PPHABM), poly(m-(4′-methoxy-4-oxyhexyloxy azobenzene) benzyl methacrylate) (PMHABM) and poly(o-(4′-methoxy-4-oxyhexyloxy azobenzene) benzyl methacrylate) (POHABM). The chemical structure of the monomers was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The structural characterisation of the polymers was performed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography, and their phase behaviour and liquid crystalline properties were studied using differential scanning calorimetry, polarised optical microscopy and wide-angle X-ray diffraction. The results show that the transitional behaviour of side-chain liquid crystalline polymers containing monosubstituted azobenzene moieties depends strongly on the position of the substituent on the azobenzene moiety; for example, the ortho-monosubstituted polymers do not form liquid crystalline phases, but all the para- and meta-monosubstituted polymers exhibit a smectic A phase. Furthermore, the glass transition temperature (Tg ) of the polymers decreases in the order, para > meta > ortho. For the PPHABM and PMHABM polymers the isotropic temperature (Ti ) and liquid crystalline range (ΔT, from Tg to Ti ) are found to be in the order, para > meta, although it is surprising that the associated enthalpy changes in these polymers is the opposite order, meta > para.  相似文献

The synthesis of side-chain liquid crystalline polysiloxanes containing either 4-[(S)-2-methyl-1-butoxy]phenyl 4-(alkenyloxy)benzoate or laterally fluoro-, chloro-, bromo-, and methoxy-substituted 4-[(S)-2-methyl-1-butoxy]phenyl 4-(alkenyloxy)benzoate mesogenic side groups is presented. The mesomorphic properties of the synthesized polymers have been characterized by optical polarizing microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction measurements. The effects of spacer length and lateral substituent on the mesomorphic properties of the obtained polymers are examined. The five polymers which contain three methylene units in the spacers show no mesophase, while the five polymers which contain eleven methylene units in the spacer display smectic mesomorphism. Among the other fifteen polymers which contain respectively four, five, or six methylene units in the spacers, those with small fluoro and chloro substituents reveal respectively an SA phase, while those with bulky bromo and methoxy substituents show no liquid crystalline behavior. The experimental results demonstrate that introducing a bulky lateral substituent into the mesogenic core of a polymer depresses the tendency to form a mesophase. Furthermore, the technique of thermally stimulated current has been used to study the dipolar relaxation mechanisms in a side-chain liquid crystalline polysiloxane. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 利用Higashi芳香聚酯直接缩聚法的原理,采用分步投料的方法,以N,N′-1,6-亚己基-双苯偏三酸酰亚胺二酸(IA6)、6-羟基-乙-萘甲酸(HNA)和4,4′-二羟基二苯酮(DHBP)为单体原料,合成了一系列聚酯酰亚胺共聚物.用核磁共振(NMR)、差热分析(DSC)、偏光显微镜(PLM)、广角X射线衍射(WAXD)、热重分析(TGA)等手段对所合成的聚酯酰亚胺的液晶行为、结构以及热性能进行了表征.研究结果表明,当HNA投料量占单体总投料量高于33mol%时,所得聚合物均呈明显的向列型热致液晶特性.但是,此类液晶聚合物仅在升温过程中出现液晶的相转变,而在降温过程中并未观察到液晶的相转变行为.由DSC结果分析可知,此类聚合物具有较高的玻璃化转变温度(Tg)和较低的熔融温度(Tm),有望成为一类既具有较低加工温度又有较高使用温度的液晶聚合物材料.  相似文献

Ferrocene‐containing polyphosphate and phosphonate esters were synthesized by the solution polycondensation method. The structure of the polymers was confirmed using various spectroscopic techniques. The formation of two types of chain blocks was confirmed by 31P NMR spectroscopy. Hot stage optical polarized microscope (HOPM) analysis revealed that all the polymers have a liquid–crystalline property. The char yields of the synthesized similar polymers were much higher than those of nonphosphorus polymers already reported in the literature. DSC analysis confirmed our predictions over the liquid–crystalline property, glass‐transition temperature, isotropization temperature, and thermal stability of the polymers. The effects of substitution on the side chain, structure of the liquid‐–crystalline phase, and thermal stability of the polymers have also been discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Side‐chain liquid‐crystalline polymers (SCLCPs) as nucleating agents for high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) were investigated. For this purpose, the molecular architectures of four different vinyl monomers with liquid‐crystalline properties were designed and prepared with 1‐butanol, 1‐pentanol, 4‐hydroxybenzoic acid, hydroquinone, and acryloyl chloride as the starting materials through alkylation and acylation reactions. The corresponding polymers were synthesized by homopolymerization in 1,4‐dioxane with benzoyl peroxide as the initiator at 60 °C. Both the monomers and the synthesized polymers were characterized with elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared, and 1H NMR measurements. Differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and hot stage polarized optical microscopy were employed to study the phase‐transition temperature, mesophase texture, and thermal stability of the liquid‐crystalline polymers. The results showed that all the polymers had thermotropic liquid‐crystalline features. Being used as nucleating agents, SCLCPs effectively increased both the crystallization temperature and rate and, at the same time, raised the crystallinity for HDPE. In comparison with common small‐molecule nucleating agents, such as 1,3:2,4‐dibenzylidenesorbitol, SCLCPs are more efficient and are indeed excellent nucleating agents for HDPE. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
