Special cases of linear eighth-order boundary-value problems have been solved using polynomial splines. However, divergent results were obtained at points adjacent to boundary points. This paper presents an accurate and general approach to solve this class of problems, utilizing the generalized differential quadrature rule (GDQR) proposed recently by the authors. Explicit weighting coefficients are formulated to implement the GDQR for eighth-order differential equations. A mathematically important by-product of this paper is that a new kind of Hermite interpolation functions is derived explicitly for the first time. Linear and non-linear illustrations are given to show the practical usefulness of the approach developed. Using Frechet derivatives, non-linear eighth-order problems are also solved for the first time. Numerical results obtained using even only seven sampling points are of excellent accuracy and convergence in an entire domain. The present GDQR has shown clear advantages over the existing methods and demonstrated itself as a general, stable, and accurate numerical method to solve high-order differential equations.  相似文献

In a previous paper we gave a new formulation and derived the Euler equations and other necessary conditions to solve strong, pathwise, stochastic variational problems with trajectories driven by Brownian motion. Thus, unlike current methods which minimize the control over deterministic functionals (the expected value), we find the control which gives the critical point solution of random functionals of a Brownian path and then, if we choose, find the expected value. This increase in information is balanced by the fact that our methods are anticipative while current methods are not. However, our methods are more directly connected to the theory and meaningful examples of deterministic variational theory and provide better means of solution for free and constrained problems. In addition, examples indicate that there are methods to obtain nonanticipative solutions from our equations although the anticipative optimal cost function has smaller expected value. In this paper we give new, efficient numerical methods to find the solution of these problems in the quadratic case. Of interest is that our numerical solution has a maximal, a priori, pointwise error of O(h3/2) where h is the node size. We believe our results are unique for any theory of stochastic control and that our methods of proof involve new and sophisticated ideas for strong solutions which extend previous deterministic results by the first author where the error was O(h2).We note that, although our solutions are given in terms of stochastic differential equations, we are not using the now standard numerical methods for stochastic differential equations. Instead we find an approximation to the critical point solution of the variational problem using relations derived from setting to zero the directional derivative of the cost functional in the direction of simple test functions. Our results are even more significant than they first appear because we can reformulate stochastic control problems or constrained calculus of variations problems in the unconstrained, stochastic calculus of variations formulation of this paper. This will allow us to find efficient and accurate numerical solutions for general constrained, stochastic optimization problems. This is not yet being done, even in the deterministic case, except by the first author.  相似文献

Recently, in the numerical analysis for stochastic differential equations (SDEs), it is a new topic to study the numerical schemes of neutral stochastic functional differential equations (NSFDEs) (see Wu and Mao [1]). Especially when Markovian switchings are taken into consideration, these problems will be more complicated. Although Zhou and Wu [2] develop a numerical scheme to neutral stochastic delay differential equations with Markovian switching (short for NSDDEwMSs), their method belongs to explicit Euler–Maruyama methods which are in general much less accurate in approximation than their implicit or semi-implicit counterparts. Therefore, to propose an implicit method becomes imperative to fill the gap. In this paper we will extend Zhou and Wu [2] to the case of the semi-implicit Euler–Maruyama methods and equations with phase semi-Markovian switching rather than Markovian switching. The employment of phase semi-Markovian chains can avoid the restriction of the negative exponential distribution of the sojourn time at a state. We prove the semi-implicit Euler solution will converge to the exact solution to NSDDEwMS under local Lipschitz condition. More precise inequalities and new techniques are put forward to overcome the difficulties for the existence of the neutral part.  相似文献

A class of high order continuous block implicit hybrid one-step methods has been proposed to solve numerically initial value problems for ordinary and delay differential equations. The convergence and Aω-stability of the continuous block implicit hybrid methods for ordinary differential equations are studied. Alternative form of continuous extension is constructed such that the block implicit hybrid one-step methods can be used to solve delay differential equations and have same convergence order as for ordinary differential equations. Some numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate the efficiency of the continuous methods.  相似文献

In this paper, a new algorithm is presented to solve the impulsive delay initial value problems. This is the first time to propose the simplified reproducing kernel method (SRKM for short) to solve the impulsive delay differential equations. Then the uniform convergence of the numerical solution is proved, and the time consuming Schmidt orthogonalization process is avoided. The proposed method is proved to be stable and is not less than second order convergence. The algorithm is employed successfully in some numerical examples.  相似文献

In this paper, a numerical method for singular initial value problems of the Lane–Emden type in the second-order ordinary differential equations is proposed. The method changes solving the equation to solving a Volterra integral equation. We have applied the improved Legendre-spectral method to solve Lane–Emden type equations. The Legendre Gauss points are used as collocation nodes and Lagrange interpolation is employed in Volterra term. The results reveal that the method is effective, simple and accurate.  相似文献

This paper presents numerical solutions for the space‐ and time‐fractional Korteweg–de Vries equation (KdV for short) using the variational iteration method. The space‐ and time‐fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. In this method, general Lagrange multipliers are introduced to construct correction functionals for the problems. The multipliers in the functionals can be identified optimally via variational theory. The iteration method, which produces the solutions in terms of convergent series with easily computable components, requiring no linearization or small perturbation. The numerical results show that the approach is easy to implement and accurate when applied to space‐ and time‐fractional KdV equations. The method introduces a promising tool for solving many space–time fractional partial differential equations. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2007  相似文献

Many numerical methods used to solve ordinary differential equations or differential-algebraic equations can be written as general linear methods. The purpose of this paper is to extend the known convergence results for Runge-Kutta and linear multistep methods to a large class of new promising numerical schemes. The theoretical results are illustrated by some numerical experiments.  相似文献

In this article, we implement relatively new analytical techniques, the variational iteration method and the Adomian decomposition method, for solving linear differential equations of fractional order. The two methods in applied mathematics can be used as alternative methods for obtaining analytic and approximate solutions for different types of fractional differential equations. In these schemes, the solution takes the form of a convergent series with easily computable components. This paper will present a numerical comparison between the two methods and a conventional method such as the fractional difference method for solving linear differential equations of fractional order. The numerical results demonstrates that the new methods are quite accurate and readily implemented.  相似文献

Spectral methods with interface point are presented to deal with some singularly perturbed third order boundary value problems of reaction-diffusion and convection-diffusion types. First, linear equations are considered and then non-linear equations. To solve non-linear equations, Newton’s method of quasi-linearization is applied. The problem is reduced to two systems of ordinary differential equations. And, then, each system is solved using spectral collocation methods. Our numerical experiments show that the proposed methods are produce highly accurate solutions in little computer time when compared with the other methods available in the literature.

The problems concerned in this paper are a class of constrained min-max problems. By introducing the Lagrange multipliers to the linear constraints, such problems can be solved by some projection type prediction-correction methods. However, to obtain components of the predictor one by one, we use an alternating direction method. And then the new iterate is generated by a minor correction. Global convergence of the proposed method is proved. Finally, numerical results for a constrained single-facility location problem are provided to verify that the new method is effective for some practical problems.   相似文献

In this paper we propose a new framework for designing a delay differential equation (DDE) solver which works with any supplied initial value problem (IVP) solver that is based on a standard step-by-step approach, such as Runge-Kutta or linear multi-step methods, and can provide dense output. This is done by treating a general DDE as a special example of a discontinuous IVP. Using this interpretation we develop an efficient technique to solve the resulting discontinuous IVP. We also give a more clear process for the numerical techniques used when solving the implicit equations that arise on a time step, such as when the underlying IVP solver is implicit or the delay vanishes. The new modular design for the resulting simulator we introduce, helps to accelerate the utilization of advances in the different components of an effective numerical method. Such components include the underlying discrete formula, the interpolant for dense output, the strategy for handling discontinuities and the iteration scheme for solving any implicit equations that arise.  相似文献

In this article, a new numerical approach has been proposed for solving a class of delay time-fractional partial differential equations. The approximate solutions of these equations are considered as linear combinations of Müntz–Legendre polynomials with unknown coefficients. Operational matrix of fractional differentiation is provided to accelerate computations of the proposed method. Using Padé approximation and two-sided Laplace transformations, the mentioned delay fractional partial differential equations will be transformed to a sequence of fractional partial differential equations without delay. The localization process is based on the space-time collocation in some appropriate points to reduce the fractional partial differential equations into the associated system of algebraic equations which can be solved by some robust iterative solvers. Some numerical examples are also given to confirm the accuracy of the presented numerical scheme. Our results approved decisive preference of the Müntz–Legendre polynomials with respect to the Legendre polynomials.  相似文献

In this paper, we shall use the variational iteration method to solve some problems of non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) such as the combined KdV–MKdV equation and Camassa–Holm equation. The variational iteration method is superior than the other non-linear methods, such as the perturbation methods where this method does not depend on small parameters, such that it can fined wide application in non-linear problems without linearization or small perturbation. In this method, the problems are initially approximated with possible unknowns, then a correction functional is constructed by a general Lagrange multiplier, which can be identified optimally via the variational theory.  相似文献

Differential algebraic equations with after-effect   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this paper, we are concerned with the solution of delay differential algebraic equations. These are differential algebraic equations with after-effect, or constrained delay differential equations. The general semi-explicit form of the problem consists of a set of delay differential equations combined with a set of constraints that may involve retarded arguments. Even simply stated problems of this type can give rise to difficult analytical and numerical problems. The more tractable examples can be shown to be equivalent to systems of delay or neutral delay differential equations. Our purpose is to highlight some of the complexities and obstacles that can arise when solving these problems, and to indicate problems that require further research.  相似文献

Very recently, a new theory known as set dynamic equations on time scales has been built. In this paper, a phase space is built for set functional dynamic equations with infinite delay on time scales and sufficient criteria are established for the existence of periodic solutions of such equations, which generalize and incorporate as special cases some known results for set differential equations and for set difference equations when the time scale is the real number set or the integer set, respectively, moreover, for differential inclusions and difference inclusions if the variable under consideration is a single valued mapping. Our results show that one can unify the study of some continuous or discrete problems in the sense of (set) dynamic equations on general time scales.  相似文献

We consider Magnus integrators to solve linear-quadratic NN-player differential games. These problems require to solve, backward in time, non-autonomous matrix Riccati differential equations which are coupled with the linear differential equations for the dynamic state of the game, to be integrated forward in time. We analyze different Magnus integrators which can provide either analytical or numerical approximations to the equations. They can be considered as time-averaging methods and frequently are used as exponential integrators. We show that they preserve some of the most relevant qualitative properties of the solution for the matrix Riccati differential equations as well as for the remaining equations. The analytical approximations allow us to study the problem in terms of the parameters involved. Some numerical examples are also considered which show that exponential methods are, in general, superior to standard methods.  相似文献

We present new constraint qualifications (CQs) to ensure the validity of some well-known second-order optimality conditions. Our main interest is on second-order conditions that can be associated with numerical methods for solving constrained optimization problems. Such conditions depend on a single Lagrange multiplier, instead of the whole set of Lagrange multipliers. For each condition, we characterize the weakest CQ that guarantees its fulfillment at local minimizers, while proposing new weak conditions implying them. Relations with other CQs are discussed.  相似文献

The pricing equations for options on assets that follow jump-diffusion processes contain integrals in addition to the usual differential terms. These integrals usually make such equations expensive to solve numerically. Although Fast Fourier Transform methods can be used to to evaluate the integrals at all mesh points simultaneously, they are costly since the computational region must be extended in order to avoid problems with wrap around. Other numerical difficulties arise when the density function for the jump size is not smooth, as in the Kou double exponential model. We present new solution methods which are based on the fact that even when the problems contain time-dependent parameters the integrals often satisfy easily solved ordinary or parabolic partial differential equations. In particular, we show that by using the operator splitting method proposed by Andersen and Andreasen it is possible to reduce the solution of the pricing equation in the Kou and similar models to a sequence of ordinary differential equations at each time step. We discuss the methods and present results of numerical experiments.  相似文献
