Using the cone theory and lattice structure, we discuss the existence of asymptotic bifurcation points and the global bifurcation of nonlinear operators which are not assumed to be cone mappings and may not be Frechet differentiable at points at infinity. As an application, the structure of the set of solutions of the superlinear Sturm-Liouville problems is investigated.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the classical problem of the exponentially small splitting of separatrices of the rapidly forced pendulum. Firstly, we give an asymptotic formula for the distance between the perturbed invariant manifolds in the so-called singular case and we compare it with the prediction of Melnikov theory. Secondly, we give exponentially small upper bounds in some cases in which the perturbation is bigger than in the singular case and we give some heuristic ideas how to obtain an asymptotic formula for these cases. Finally, we study how the splitting of separatrices behaves when the parameters are close to a codimension-2 bifurcation point.  相似文献

The work we describe addresses the process of whitecapping. We first argue that, when the winds are strong enough, the ocean surface must develop an alternative means to dissipate energy when its flux from large to small scales becomes too large. We then show that the resulting Phillips' spectrum, which holds at small or meter length scales, is dominated by sharp crested waves. We next idealize such a sea locally by a family of close to maximum amplitude Stokes waves and show, using highly accurate simulation algorithms based on a conformal map representation, that perturbed Stokes waves develop the universal feature of an overturning plunging jet. We analyze both the cases when surface tension is absent and present. In the latter case, we show the plunging jet is regularized by capillary waves that rapidly become nonlinear Crapper waves in whose trough pockets whitecaps may be spawned. We are careful not to claim this as the definitive mechanism for whitecaps because three‐dimensional effects, although qualitatively discussed, are not included in the analysis.  相似文献

The generic isolated bifurcations for one-parameter families of smooth planar vector fields {Xμ} which give rise to periodic orbits are: the Andronov-Hopf bifurcation, the bifurcation from a semi-stable periodic orbit, the saddle-node loop bifurcation and the saddle loop bifurcation. In this paper we obtain the dominant term of the asymptotic behaviour of the period of the limit cycles appearing in each of these bifurcations in terms of μ when we are near the bifurcation. The method used to study the first two bifurcations is also used to solve the same problem in another two situations: a generalization of the Andronov-Hopf bifurcation to vector fields starting with a special monodromic jet; and the Hopf bifurcation at infinity for families of polynomial vector fields.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the behavior of the twist near low-order resonances of a periodic orbit or an equilibrium of a Hamiltonian system with two degrees of freedom. Namely, we analyze the case where the Hamiltonian has multiple eigenvalues (the Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation) or a zero eigenvalue near the equilibrium and the case where the system has a periodic orbit whose multipliers are equal to 1 (the saddle-center bifurcation) or −1 (the period-doubling bifurcation). We show that the twist does not vanish at least in a small neighborhood of the period-doubling bifurcation. For the saddle-center bifurcation and the resonances of the equilibrium under consideration, we prove the existence of a “twistless” torus for sufficiently small values of the bifurcation parameter. An explicit dependence of the energy corresponding to the twistless torus on the bifurcation parameter is derived. We present a certain analog for variational inequalities of the classical result on bifurcation from simple eigenvalues of Crandall and Rabinowitz. In other words, we describe the existence and local uniqueness of smooth families of nontrivial solutions to variational inequalities, bifurcating from a trivial solution family at certain points which could be called simple eigenvalues of the homogenized variational inequality. If the bifurcation parameter is one-dimensional, the main difference between the case of equations and the case of variational inequalities (when the cone is not a linear subspace) is the following: For equations two smooth half-branches bifurcate, for inequalities only one. The proofs are based on scaling techniques and on the implicit function theorem. The abstract results are applied to a fourth order ODE with pointwise unilateral conditions (an obstacle problem for a beam with the compression force as the bifurcation parameter).  相似文献

We show some abstract (purely set-topological) principles which allow to prove the existence of global solution branches. The results apply either for the locally compact situation and then allow to prove global bifurcation results of Rabinowitz type, or they apply for a locally connected situation and allow to prove global branches of arbitrarily small perturbations without any compactness hypotheses. As two applications, we obtain a generalization of the Rabinowitz theorem for bifurcation from an interval and an implicit function type theorem for nondifferentiable functions.  相似文献

In this paper we present the results of numerical investigation of self-sustained oscillations of a jet confined in a symmetric cavity. This work represents an attempt to reproduce empirical observations of asymmetric flows in geometrically symmetric systems and to extend the jet flow investigations to more complex possible scenarios. A well-known example of such two-dimensional flow has been reported experimentally and reproduced numerically for simple flow [E. Schreck, M. Schaefer, Numerical study or bifurcation in three-dimensional sudden channel expansions, Comput. Fluids 29 (2000) 583–593]. It has been found that for some particular control parameter, above its critical value (bifurcation point), the jet can be deflected to either of the two sides of the cavity. In this paper we report a similar behaviour which is, however, characterized by a more complicated flow pattern. While simple flow appears only within small cavity lengths the complex flows develops with increased cavity lengths. Unlike stationary asymmetric solutions accompanied by cavity jet oscillations, as experimentally reported in e.g., [A. Maurel, P. Ern, B.J.A. Zielinska, J.E. Wesfreid, Experimental study of self-sustained oscillations in a confined jet, Phys Rev. E 54 (1996) 3643–3651], in our investigations of both simple and complex asymmetric flow we observed the slow periodical drift of the jet from one to another side of the cavity. The essential control parameters were Reynolds number Re and the ratio length to inlet width L/d. According to experiments of Maurel et al. (1996), the jet is stable and symmetric, when both L/d and Re are below certain critical values, otherwise jet oscillations appear in both experiment and our simulation (cavity oscillations regime). However, further increase of either (or both) L/d and Re leads of so called free jet type oscillations regime. This paper describes complex jet behaviour within the later oscillations regime. We believe that both simple “classical” and “our” complex stationary asymmetric solutions (as well as superimposed cavity-type and free-jet oscillations) can be explained based on physical arguments as already done in previous works. However, the origin of slow drift motion remains still to be resolved. This might be of high importance for clear distinguishing between relevant physical and numerical features in future codes developments.  相似文献

A nonlinear differential kinetic model describing dynamical behaviours of an atom at a fatigue crack tip is developed in this paper. It is assumed that the forces acted on this atom by its surrounding atoms consist of the following three components: (1) an elastic restoring force governed by Leonard-Jones potential, which describes the elastic interaction between atoms; (2) a nonlinear damping force proportional to its velocity through a linear function of its displacement as a coefficient that empirically simulates the energy loss from the crack tip to its surroundings; (3) an external remote driving force to represent thermally activated energy supplied to the crack tip from the surroundings. Based on these assumptions of the interaction forces between the atoms around the crack tip, a nonlinear dynamic equation describing the motion of the atom at a crack tip using the Newton’s second principle is derived. For a periodic external force and a random one influenced by parameters omitted, deterministic and a stochastic analyses on the dynamic equation obtained above are completed. Based on the theories of the Hopf bifurcation, global bifurcation and stochastic bifurcation, the extent and some possible implications of the existence of atomic-scale chaotic and stochastic bifurcative motions involving the fracture behaviour of actual materials are systematically and qualitatively discussed and the extreme sensitivity of chaotic motions to minute changes in initial conditions is explored. As demonstrated in the paper, chaotic behaviour may be observed in the case of a larger amplitude of the driving force and a smaller damping constant. The white noise introduced in the atomistic motion process may leads to a drift of the divergence point of the nonlinear stochastic differential kinetic system in contrast to the homoclinic divergence of the nonlinear deterministic differential kinetic system.  相似文献

The classic models of mass transfer for free turbulent jets very often contain neglected terms. This is because these terms are considered so small that their effect can be neglected; however, because the models are usually structurally unstable, these neglected terms, even if they are small, may change the behavior of the system. Furthermore, the existing classic models cannot simulate the far behavior of the fluid, for example, the eddies existing in the jet region of the fluid stream. In this paper, we consider a general implicit small perturbation of the classic model and study the effect of it on the system. We will show that the local bifurcations may imply the existence of eddies for the fluid stream; for example, we will see that, under some conditions, the Hopf bifurcation generates permanent eddies for the system.  相似文献

In this work we study a reaction–diffusion problem with delay and we make an analysis of the stability of solutions by means of bifurcation theory. We take the delay constant as a parameter. Special conditions on the vector field assure existence of a spatially nonconstant positive equilibrium Uk , which is stable for small values of the delay. An increase of the delay destabilizes the equilibrium of Uk and leads to super or subcritical Hopf bifurcation.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a Morsification Theory for holomorphic functions defining a singularity of finite codimension with respect to an ideal, which recovers most previously known morsification results for non-isolated singularities and generalise them to a much wider context. We also show that deforming functions of finite codimension with respect to an ideal within the same ideal respects the Milnor fibration. Furthermore we present some applications of the theory: we introduce new numerical invariants for non-isolated singularities, which explain various aspects of the deformation of functions within an ideal; we define generalisations of the bifurcation variety in the versal unfolding of isolated singularities; applications of the theory to the topological study of the Milnor fibration of non-isolated singularities are presented. Using intersection theory in a generalised jet-space we show how to interpret the newly defined invariants as certain intersection multiplicities; finally, we characterise which invariants can be interpreted as intersection multiplicities in the above mentioned generalised jet space.  相似文献

The equation models periodicgravity waves on the surface of a shallow rectangular tank whichis oscillating longitudinally near the primary resonance frequency.The singular integral memory term is well behaved, and the Lyapunov-Schmidtprocedure produces bifurcation equations to which the analysisof Hale & Rodrigues on the damped Duffing equation is directlyapplicable. We consider the computation of the electrostatic charge density at the tip of a rounded corner. The relation between the curvature radius and the electrostatic field is given by Peek's empirical law which is valid only for thin, cylindrical or spherical, geometries. In this Note, we justify mathematically this law and extend it to other geometries. With the help of multiscaled asymptotic expansions, we derive an expression for the charge density for geometries which coincide at infinity with a cone. A numerical illustration is provided. In this paper we discuss a small nonautonomous perturbation of an autonomous system on Rn which has a homoclinic solution. Regarding the small perturbation as a parameter in an appropriate space of functions we discuss various situations of co-existence of homoclinic orbits. Those conditions of various co-existence actually define bifurcation manifolds in the space of functions for linearly independent homoclinic bifurcations.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate a class of predator–prey model with age structure and discuss whether the model can undergo Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation. The analysis is based on the normal form theory and the center manifold theory for semilinear equations with non-dense domain combined with integrated semigroup theory. Qualitative analysis indicates that there exist some parameter values such that this predator–prey model has an unique positive equilibrium which is Bogdanov–Takens singularity. Moreover, it is shown that under suitable small perturbation, the system undergoes the Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation in a small neighborhood of this positive equilibrium.  相似文献

We establish a criterion for a finite family of matrices to possess a common invariant cone. The criterion reduces the problem of existence of an invariant cone to equality of two special numbers that depend on the family. In spite of theoretical simplicity, the practical use of the criterion may be difficult. We show that the problem of existence of a common invariant cone for four matrices with integral entries is algorithmically undecidable. Corollaries of the criterion, which give sufficient and necessary conditions, are derived. Finally, we introduce a “co-directional number” of several matrices. We prove that this parameter is close to zero iff there is a small perturbation of matrices, after which they get an invariant cone. An algorithm for its computation is presented.  相似文献

We investigate eigenvalues and eigenvectors of certain linear variational eigenvalue inequalities where the constraints are defined by a convex cone as in [4], [7], [8], [10]-[12], [17]. The eigenvalues of those eigenvalue problems are of interest in connection with bifurcation from the trivial solution of nonlinear variational inequalities. A rather far reaching theory is presented for the case that the cone is given by a finite number of linear inequalities, where an eigensolution corresponds to a (+)-Kuhn-Tucker point of the Rayleigh quotient. Application to an unlaterally supported beam are discussed and numerical results are given.  相似文献
