We study the limiting behavior of large-amplitude standing waves on deep water using high-resolution numerical simulations in double and quadruple precision. While periodic traveling waves approach Stokes's sharply crested extreme wave in an asymptotically self-similar manner, we find that standing waves behave differently. Instead of sharpening to a corner or cusp as previously conjectured, the crest tip develops a variety of oscillatory structures. This causes the bifurcation curve that parametrizes these waves to fragment into disjoint branches corresponding to the different oscillation patterns that occur. In many cases, a vertical jet of fluid pushes these structures upward, leading to wave profiles commonly seen in wave tank experiments. Thus, we observe a rich array of dynamic behavior at small length scales in a regime previously thought to be self-similar. 相似文献

The ultrasonic velocity of shear waves propagating through radial direction of a wood plate specimen, transversely to the loading direction, was measured. By rotating an ultrasonic sensor, the oscillation direction of the shear waves was varied with respect to the wood plate axis and loading direction. The relationship between shear wave velocity and oscillation direction was examined to discuss the effect of anisotropy on the acoustoelastic birefringence in wood. The results obtained were summarized as follows. When the oscillation direction of the shear wave corresponded to the tangential direction of the wood specimen regardless of the stress direction, shear wave velocity decreased markedly and the relationship between shear wave velocity and rotation angle tended to become discontinuous. That is, when the shear waves oscillated in the anisotropic axis of the wood, the shear wave velocity peaked unlike in the case of oscillation in the stress direction. In an isotropic material (acrylic, aluminum 5052), on the contrary, when the shear waves oscillated in the stress direction of the specimen, the shear wave velocity peaked regardless of the main-axis direction of the specimen. On the basis of the discussion of these results, the ultrasonic shear wave propagating in wood under stress is confirmed to be polarized in the anisotropic axis of the wood. 相似文献

针对光学参量振荡产生太赫兹波转换效率低的缺点, 提出了级联参量振荡产生太赫兹波的新机理以提高转换效率. 以周期极化铌酸锂晶体为例, 对级联参量振荡产生太赫兹波的原理和过程进行了理论研究. 分析了抽运光波长、周期极化铌酸锂晶体极化周期和工作温度对产生一阶、二阶闲频光频率的影响. 推导了三波共线相互作用条件下太赫兹波的增益特性和吸收特性. 计算结果表明, 通过级联参量振荡可以有效提高太赫兹波的转换效率, 并可以得到宽调谐的太赫兹波输出. 基于分析结果, 设计了周期极化铌酸锂晶体级联参量振荡产生高效率、宽调谐、窄线宽、连续太赫兹波的实验.

A sort of tubular ultrasonic radiator used in ultrasonic liquid processing is studied. The frequency equation of the tubular radiator is derived, and its radiated sound field in cylindrical reactor is calculated using finite element method and recorded by means of aluminum foil erosion. The results indicate that sound field of tubular ultrasonic radiator in cylindrical reactor appears standing waves along both its radial direction and axial direction, and amplitudes of standing waves decrease gradually along its radial direction, and the numbers of standing waves along its axial direction are equal to the axial wave numbers of tubular radiator. The experimental results are in good agreement with calculated results. 相似文献
